PROFESIONNAL EXPERIENCE
Sept 2010- to date USAID Power Distribution Program (PDP) Islamabad
Team Lead Gender Strategy Assigned to work with the power distribution organizations in towards
developing gender equity, increasing the representation of women in the workforce through development
of gender strategies focusing on capacity building, women empowerment, while sensitizing the
organizations about gender issues. Under this gender equity mandate, executed a gender assessment of the
distribution business sector institutions to identify gender issues and developed the Action Plans needed to
address them. Conceptualization of Action Plans, designing of the projects and implementation of the
projects. While focusing gender strategy development as a cross-cutting activity, responding to the
indicators set out by the United States Government (USG), to measure the progress and capacity building
of women under USG-assisted programs. The designed and implemented projects provide an opportunity
for working women in the power sector to come together to share and reflect on their experiences, and to
develop their understanding of how to grow professionally and personally in order to achieve their long
term goals.
• Develop an understanding of gender equity issues in the workplace
• Help cultivate a new mind set concerning communication and interaction with female employees.
• Raise awareness among participants concerning the role “gender” plays in three critical areas:
- Employment
- Career Development, and
- Workplace Conditions.
Internship Program Task Lead : Project designing and successful execution of Internship Program - the
establishing a scholar’s engagement plan - to bring on board freshly qualified Masters and Graduates in
different fields. This program fully helped in the improvement of core operations and governance of power
distribution business, through infusion of young professionals in the Internship Program, who served as a
means of developing prospective employees. This program has demonstrated the public sector, particularly
power distribution companies to attract and engage new talent with appropriate skills to be the paradigm of
change and corporatization of these organizations and the overall power sector. The Internship Program
served a dual purpose; firstly it streamlined the distribution companies’ existing internship system and
secondly, it contributed towards achieving a productive and gender friendly working environment.
The Internship Program demonstrate a cost effective means of extending much required support to the core
operations in the areas of finance, commercial, technical and engineering, HR and IT by bringing on board
young and professionally qualified interns for a period of 18 – 20 months, thus deficiency of human capital
in MEPCO and PESCO was addressed
Keeping in view the gender aspect, PDP inducted almost 40% women in the internship program. They have
rendered commendable services in Planning & Engineering sections, supported GIS, LDI projects, and
many contributed in the implementation of ERP in the Finance while some others contributed in MIS, HR,
