47. TREATMENT SUMMARY
• Uncomplicated malaria (due to p.vivax,p.malariae,and p.ovale)- oral Chloroquine
4tab (600mg) stat followed by 2 tab (300 mg) 6 hour later and then 2 tab on day 2
and day 3 (Total 10 tablet)
• Radical Cure- Primaquine 7.5 mg BD for 15 days to prevent relapse in vivax and
ovale.
• Chloroquine Sensitive p.falciparum- same dose of chloroquine and single dose of
primaquine 45 mg
• Chloroquine Resistant Malaria- ACT (artemisnins based combination therapy
e.g Artemether or Artesunate )
• Severe Falciparum Malaria( Cerebral Malaria)-
1. Artesunate 2.4 mg/kg IV at 0,12 and 24 hours then once daily for 7 days. When
stable switch to oral dose of 2mg/kg upto total of 17-18 mg/kg
2. IV Dextrose to Counter Hypoglycemia
