Terrorism is the use or threat of violence to create fear and alarm. Terrorists murder and kidnap people, set off bombs, hijack airplanes, set fires, and
commit other serious crimes. But the goals of terrorists differ from those of ordinary criminals. Most criminals want money or some other form of
personal gain. Most terrorists commit crimes to support political causes.
The word terrorism first appeared during the French Revolution (1789–1799). Some of the revolutionaries who seized power in France adopted a policy
of violence against their enemies. The period of their rule became known as the Reign of Terror.

sympathizers in the late 1800's and the 1900's. In the 1930's, the dictators Adolf Hitler of Germany, Benito Mussolini of Italy, and Joseph Stalin of the
Soviet Union used terrorism to discourage opposition to their governments. In Northern Ireland, Roman Catholic and Protestant extremists have used
violence to push for, respectively, the end of, or the continuation of, British rule.

There have been occurrences of some major natural disasters over the recent times, this have had great impact on families and lives of many people.
The event that has had a great impact to me is the recent occurrence of the September 11 terrorist attacks. These events made headlines in media all
over the world in newspapers as well as television got an in depth detail of the occurrence that had a great impact on me ,I failed to understand how
terrorists could be so evil to an extent of planning to attack innocent citizens. This were a series of f our suicide attacks that were coordinated upon the
United states in the New York city and Washington DC. Terrorists hijacked passenger jets, and intentionally flew two of them into the North and south
towers of the World Trade complex in the New York leaving behind two collapsed towers in a matter of two hours can only imagine the distress and
panic those innocent passengers were feeling when the hijackers took control of the planes. The collapsing of the towers was just but the beginning; the
debris from this collapsing building fell onto other surrounding buildings and even initiated fires in those buildings. This resulted to collapse either
partially or completely of this surrounding buildings in the complex. The debris also caused damage to ten other large structures in the immediate area.

One possible solution to preventing further blood shed is simple diplomacy. This theory is to meet the terrorists' masterminds on common ground.

challenge legal authorities – weakening and discrediting it (Faure, 2003). Governments usually prefer an alternative, like combat, because it "requires
no concessions, grants no legitimacy, and is consistent with the norm of punishing illegal violence" (Pruitt 2007, p. 374).
Indeed, when a terrorist group does not receive wide support or is not tied to an ethnic/nationalist constituency they are much less likely to survive

Many countries have joined the United States in their mission to eliminate terrorism throughout the world. The most support coming from the allied
British forces who are along with the United States forces in their campaign on terrorism in Afghanistan. Other countries that have agreed to join a
coalition with the United States include: India, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, China, and Italy. Although these countries have not used military action
against terrorism in Afghanistan, they are a big role in helping catch other terrorist who harbor in other countries. By joining the coalition, President
Bush is again saying that this is a fight against terrorism all across the world and not just in the middle east.
September 11, 2001, changed the United States citizens forever. President George Bush states "we will not fail in our campaign to fight terrorism." It
is sad and very unfortunate for the people of Afghanistan to be brought into war because of the Taliban. Even though United States attacks are focused
on military targets, some areas are being struck on innocent cities killing many family members. It is very important to the United States that the
people of Afghanistan know that we are friends not enemy. It is a necessity to say that the United States will prevail and when we do, let freedom be
brought across the middle east.

With every terrorist attack executed, people like to blame the terrorists for attacking and causing fear and death in the world. Yes, those terrorists hold
responsibility for those deaths, but the common people of the world in addition to the leaders of the world, also hold responsibility for allowing
terrorism to be successful and continue. Terrorists gain power through the common, innocent people they attack. How the world responds to terrorist
attacks determines whether or not terrorism will cease. The common people's response to terrorism, the interest of the state, and the media's role in
terrorism all aide to terrorism's success and its continuation in the future. How people willingly choose to respond to terrorist attacks defines terrorism
and determines if terrorism will continue. For example, after the 9/11 attacks occurred, some Americans began to grieve while others began to act on
their anger. Police claim that "nearly 600 incidents in the first 10 days after the attacks" occurred due to people erupting with rage (History.com Staff).
A Pakistani grocery man was killed in Texas (History.com Staff). A man in Arizona shot an Indian gas station owner because he was on an anti

rampage (History.com Staff). These attacks that Americans chose to do out of fear, sadness, and anger causes other people to become overwhelmed

Terrorism is a form of violence that is difficult to define. The State Department defines terrorism as "premeditated, politically motivated violence
perpetrated against noncombatant targets by sub–national groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience." Terrorism is

The group behind the attacks, Al–Qaeda, is an Afghanistan based group led by Osama Bin–Laden. Al–Qaeda seeks to rid Muslim countries of what it
sees as the profane influence of the West and replace their governments with fundamentalist Islamic regimes.
What is the root cause of terrorism and what can be done about it? While no–one knows for sure, there has been a lot of speculation as to these issues
especially after 9/11. There are several key factors that seam to be prominent. The key reasons for the most recent of the attacks, especially 9/11, are
due to deep seated hatred for American policies and actions around the world. Strong anti–American undercurrents breed tolerance for extremist terror
networks, like those of Osama bin Laden in many Islamic countries. Although most Americans would not agree, many foreign countries view America
as very arrogant, and say we had it coming on 9/11. However, much of terrorism is aimed at the western world, not only the United States. Much of
these anti–western sentiments can be traced to the Palestinian–Israeli conflict. In that area of the world, terrorism is not a seldom occurrence, but rather
a near daily occurrence where casualties are normal. Both countries are fighting a bloody war over religious turf, with no peace or solution in sight.
