Insurers' journeys to build a mastery in the IoT usage
Task 1
1. G321 Thriller Evaluation Tasks Priyanca Barot
Task 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions o real media products?
Our opening sequence was created in such a way that it is immediately
made obvious that the sequence genre is in fact a thriller. As a group,
we have established and used many editing skills, such as sound
effects, mise en scene, lighting and camera work in order to highlight
important conventions to a thriller. In every stage of our filming we tried
to consider thriller conventions. The typical conventions that we did use
were quick cuts and camera angle changes. In this thriller it does not
play these two conventions, it avoids darkness and shadow.
In this still we have established the setting/location of our opening to the
thriller

sequence, as you can see our location was just a normal
neighbourhood, and I think this gave a great effect to the opening. When
you watch thrillers the most interesting things in them are when you
wouldn’t perceive them as being scary and when you wouldn’t put them
together, so using a non scary house makes it scary and mysterious
because you don’t know what is going to happen.

In the still above it shows the hand of character 1 knocking on the door, the knock also seems quite
aggressive with the fist held tight. The camerawork; we had made sure that we do not reveal
character 1 (Natasha) straight away we wanted to expose this person after we revealed character 2
(Charlie) and by showing the knock first you also get the audience thinking about who is going to
answer the door .
In this still you find out who the house belongs to, as she is the one opening the door. We have done
this by editing, as we cut to who’s inside and then revealing the person by going outside. The
camerawork used in this scene is an over the shoulder shot. In this same scene it develops into
revealing who the person knocking was.

In the two stills above one of them shows a high angle view of a girl looking at a picture of a couple.
And the other screenshot was taken to show how we did this; we have lightened it by using colour
correction, to add an innocent view on things and to make the picture stand out more.
.
In this still it shows character 1 putting the picture frame down quickly, it makes the audience think
why she is doing this, what is her reason behind this. We did a mid/close up of this to capture just
the middle bit of her body to emphasize on just the photo frame being slammed down, and to see
that there is no emotion there as the face has not been seen. From here we wanted to develop on
why she is doing this and to what is she going to do next.
In this last still we have edited it by blurring out the corners to make it seem as if it’s from character
1’s point of view, and the sound we used built up the tension to what is she going to do next. We
also did this handheld so it makes it more rushed and appropriate as we were doing it as you are
seeing the exact same thing as Natasha as it is from her point of view.

Task 4 – Who would be the audience for your media product?
I think that empire magazine would be the type of magazine that would
feature our movie, as this is the sort of magazine which has a range of
different types of movie it reviews, from kick ass movies to comedies.
Our thriller that we made would be appropriate for this magazine.
REVIEW:
This is a teen-oriented flick, ‘Best of friends’ was a 6/10 for me, and it
was a nice cliché. You could potentially see what was going to happen,
6. G321 Thriller Evaluation Tasks Priyanca Barot
it’s about 2 friends who obviously use to be ‘best of friends’ slowly
turning into jealousy as one of the friends is now with the guy that
Natasha used to be with. Charlie needs to watch out before the Natasha
realises the violent psychotic self within her. However it does serve its
purpose as an ok thriller and is done by its story line.
The type of audience that would be interested in going to see this movie
are the people who enjoyed movies like ‘single white female’, ‘the
roommate’ and 1993’s ‘the crush’ .
Task 6 – What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing the product?
7. G321 Thriller Evaluation Tasks Priyanca Barot
We have a still of the software we used but we didn’t have any pictures
or screen shots of us using them. From final cut I’ve learnt much more
than the basics to just cut. I’ve learnt how to cross fade, import files and
folders, slow down the speeds of the footage, render the footage, add
titles and texts, and to change the effects of the movie E.G. colour
correction and adding blur effects. I can say that I am definitely confident
at using final cut.
The other software we used was garageband. I wasn’t too good at this in
the beginning and am still not confident using it; however I can use it just
not very well. Creating music and the beats just didn’t work out very well
for us. I can fade in and out the music and lower the sound for specific
areas.
