Evaluation Activity 7
Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity
editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to full product?
In my 28 seconds long preliminary task, there
are only 5 different shots. Since filming this,
I have realised that lots of fast shots from
different angles makes the action seem far
more interesting and less tedious to watch.
In the first 28 seconds on my coursework, I
have used 11 different shots from different
angles of a car simply driving down a school
drive, this is probably one of the most help
things I’ve learnt to make my film opening
professional.
Match on Action
In my preliminary task, the use
of match on action was not as
effective as it could have been
as I think the shots from both
sides of the door are too long.
However, this technique of
shooting did successfully
create the illusion that the
actress was entering the
room without take numerous
shots!
We used match on action
in our film opening to
show the continuity
between shots, however
in our coursework we did
it differently to how I did
it in my preliminary task.
The shots are faster
than in the preliminary
task and we filmed it
from immediately in
front of the door as she
entered through it.
Shot Reverse Shot
In my preliminary task, I used shot reverse shot, however
the final outcome was not as professional as in my
coursework. As you can see, the angles of each shot are
quite different which makes the shots seem quite awkward.
We have used shot reverse shot which we learned
from in our preliminary task. The shot is shown
almost from the characters eye line, which provides
a personal view to the audience. However we have
now learned that cameras are seen in the mirror
and therefore have since realised that mirrors are
not a good idea to have in the back of a shot…
Here is another
example of shot
reverse shot, this one
is more similar to
The preliminary task as
it shows two
characters conversing
over a table.
Filming these three types of shots in my
preliminary task helped me to understand and
develop my skill so that I could produce better
outcomes when it came to producing my
coursework.
As well as these shots I used close ups in my
coursework as they help to convey a
characters feelings and emotions clearly.
Close Ups
The close up of the antagonist Sophie is used to display her distaste
towards the new girl Miranda, she shows this by looking her up and
down in an evil manner.
The shot on the left was unintentional, however it portrayed
perfectly the faces you’d expect when a new pupil walks into
classroom for the first time. The three girls look interested by
Miranda’s presence.
