Evaluation q7
1. EVALUATION Q7
Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it, to the full
product?
2. Looking back at my preliminary task I feel that I have learnt loads and have progressed largely
now that I have finished. One thing that I have learnt is the variety in camera movements and
angles. In my first task I was only using a few camera shots and this made my short films look
to simple.
This also wouldn't engage the audience with my film as much as it could have made the film
look to dull. To make sure that I would film a variety of shots I learnt the importance of
storyboards and shot lists, this is because it makes me organize what shots I want to do in
advance .Through this I have learnt that I need to vary my camera shots and do a lot more
angles and movements as this way the opening sequences will look more appealing to the eye
for the audience watching as it appeals to the audience more effectively.
3. This brings me onto my next point where in my preliminary task the editing wasn’t up to scratch
which made the continuity of my opening sequence not as effective. I learnt that the continuity
editing of my opening sequence is beneficial to grabbing the audience’s attention early on in the film
An example of this is when Eleanor Cronk the actress stares at the kids on the field talking
and then turns back with another camera angle, when this happens there is no jumping
between the shots and it looks like it flows well which makes the scene more realistic. By
doing this it makes it look more professional
4. Secondly, I feel I have learnt more about what should be featured in opening sequence's such as, titles in
my opening sequence. I have used my own edited text to show the opening title’s, cast and the directors
of my movie. This makes the opening sequence look more up-market and skillful. In my preliminary task
I added no titles, this made my movie look plain and not planned out which is what I wanted to avoid.
5. Since my I made my Preliminary Task, I have also learned that if the characters look the age they are
meant to be acting it makes the overall opening sequence more believable, therefore dramatic. In my
Preliminary task, One of my actors was not suited for their role (the clown) as the actor was too large so
he didn't’t look as creepy which which made the film lose its eeriness.
On the other hand in my opening sequence my movie had a range of ages included. I made sure that all
my actors were the age I wanted them to play. For example I managed to get a 7 year old girl to play the
younger sister to make the audience feel more sympathetic for the young girl. As my two characters
were meant to be siblings, I got actually brother and sister to play the roles of the character therefore it
looked like they were actually related. Furthermore, I casted the older version of the younger girl to
look like the year old, this was to make the audience vividly see that she was the older version of the
girl being abused. By doing all of this, It makes the audience understand the plot a lot more easier, and
also makes the opening sequence look more professional and well thought out.
