Solar energy is the radiation from the sun that can produce heat, cause chemical reactions, or generate electricity. It is the largest source of energy received on Earth, but its intensity at the surface is low. Solar energy is becoming an increasingly important energy source due to its non-polluting nature and inexhaustible supply, unlike fossil fuels which will be depleted. There are several methods to harness solar energy, including passive and active solar, photovoltaics, and solar thermal.
