GRID TIE SOLAR POWER SYSTEM

GRID CONNECTED SYSTEMS
 Grid Tie System is the simplest and most cost effective way
to connect PV modules to regular utility power.
 Grid-Connected systems can supply solar power to your
home and use utility power as a backup.
 As long as there is enough electricity flowing in from PV
system, no electricity will flow in from the utility company.
 If system is generating more power than you are using, the
excess will flow back into the grid, turning meter backwards.

NET METERING
How it Works:
The customer is billed for the
net electricity purchased from
the utility over the entire billing
period - that is, the difference
between the electricity coming
from the power grid and the
electricity generated by the PV
system.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE GRID FAILS?
The Solar Inverters instantly switch off when the grid fail, which is almost
always due to some fault condition, and it is extremely hazardous to continue to
keep feeding power in such conditions
This behaviour of grid-tied inverters is called anti-islanding protection
The way grid-tied inverters implement anti-islanding is by continuously
monitoring the grid and detecting one of the following conditions:
 A sudden change in system voltage magnitude.
 A sudden change in system frequency.
 A sudden change in the rate of change of system frequency.
 A sudden increase in the active output power (kW) well beyond the “normal”
level.
 A sudden increase in the reactive output power (kVAR) well beyond the
“normal” level.
ARUN
 An android app name “ARUN (Atal Solar Rooftop Solar
Navigator)”, which is a simple guide for solar rooftop system,
can be used to know it even more better.
 This app includes
 Calculator for calculating the cost of installation of rooftop
systems
 Provision for submitting the installation request to the ministry
of new and renewable energy.
 Provide list of all approved agencies of the ministry.
ADVANTAGES
Net Metering can offset a customers electricity usage costs.
Easier to install as they do not require a battery system.
Its estimated life span is 25years
Also it is environment friendly
DISADVANTAGES
The System is costly
If the grid goes out so as your home electricity even there is bright light.
Requires large amount of space
CONCLUSION
Grid-tied solar PV systems have become very popular all over the
world and are on the verge of taking off big time in India as well.
The SEBs need to do their part by coming up with good net
metering policies. In response, the consumers should go for solar
in a big way.
