This document discusses barriers to electric vehicle adoption and how those barriers are being overcome. It outlines that early EVs had limited range and performance and there was little choice of vehicle types. Cost was also a barrier as EVs were more expensive. Charging infrastructure was sparse. However, vehicle ranges have increased significantly in recent years. Costs are decreasing as battery prices fall and EVs are projected to reach price parity with gas vehicles by 2018. More vehicle types and models are becoming available. Charging networks are expanding to include home, workplace, destination and en-route options. Faster charging is not as important as dwell time - ensuring charging is available where people spend their time. Widespread EV adoption will require coordination between automakers
