2. TfGM is a Passenger Transport Executive
Co-ordinates transport. Funded through a levy on Council Tax. Capital
funding via range of sources. Overseen by Transport Authority. Functions
include:
• Concessions;
• Developing strategy;
• Supporting bus services; and
• Transport infrastructure development and operation.
Series of internal GM reform plus devolution has broadened original PTE
model into current broader transport competence of TfGM.

• Multi modal responsibilities:
o Metrolink;
o Highways;
o Cycling and active travel; and
o Smart ticketing and travel information;
• Growing role in relation to:
o Bus;
o Rail; and
o Pan Northern influence

20. Stockport Interchange
• New Interchange on the existing Bus Station Site;
• New access bridge over River Mersey for buses, pedestrians & cyclists;
• Enhanced integration with the rail station, the A6 and Mersey Square.
21. Wigan Bus Station
• New Interchange on the existing Bus Station Site; and
• Improved linkages to the town centre and adjacent college.
22. Further Interchange Development Opportunities
•Options being explored to tie new interchanges in with delivery of
residential and other commercial development.
•Supports connectivity.
•Supports the GM Housing agenda.
•Supports economic growth.
•Potentially generates further revenue to support transport
investment.
