English version of the presentation originally held in German.

1 - the changing world of business information, why you need 'smart' information to turn raw data into insight. Illustrated by 4 brief cases, ranging from a mature commercial product to an R&B prototype.

Showcase 4:
SmartWatch â a LexisNexis product â translates textual data into quantitative scores, which are then visualised for ease of use.
The âtraffic lightââ colours indicate different risks relating to individual strategic suppliers.
We use the âPESTLEâ model to score against different, so-called PESTLE parameters, i.e. Political, Economic, Social, Territorial, Legal, Environmental to give a balanced analysis of the risk position a certain company is in.
LexisNexis continuously evaluates R&D in the market, engages in conversation with specialised information workers to understand what they need in their daily workflows. This results in the creation of new products that meet specific target groupsâ needs.

We interviewed hundreds of information professionals to get an insight into the dynamics and trends in the world they live and work in.
One of the key findings is that results presentation is changing
Information managers believe that they will need to spend more time helping colleagues understand results, need to present information in different ways for different audiences, and find new ways to present information to aid understanding â such as dashboards and visualisations.
As the results of our survey show, the two areas people agree most strongly with are:
The need to present information differently and
The need to present information in a way that is more easily understood by others
Further important statistics from our PP+F report relate to the skill set:
One of the most striking insights from our survey was the shift in required skills for an information professionalâs job.
Many of our interview partners said that communciations skills are increasingly important.
This statement from various interviewees is also supported by the data from our online survey, as you can see on the next slide.

How does Smart Information help Info Pros?
We asked information professionals about their challenges and what they think will happen in the near future.
Plates that are too full with too many tasks, as well as an overabundance of information are some of the biggest challenges in an information professionalâs job.
Expectations from âinformation consumersâ inside organisations are continuously rising: people expect more detail, more analysis, new output formats e.g. dashboards and expect shorter turnaround times on top of that...
They need Data diversitySmarter information helps the integration of different data and content types; such as news, financials, statistics and visuals.

Quote of PP+F: âCombined with excellent user experience â be that for the information manager or their customers â in any given form of visualisation, whilst collecting, managing and analysing information can be a complex job, LexisNexis believes that information delivery should be simplicity itself.â
Some highlights of the latest âsmart informationâ developments within LexisNexis.
Obviously, many of these are product and technology developments, but some of our activities go beyond that...
