Visible. D E S C R I P T I O N
An editorial publication combining feminism, art and design.
The traditional newspaper format is reinvented with light text and heavily featured illustration.
Through typography the new and old are merged. With larger visual text; it’s bold, clean and mod-
ern. There’s an honesty to the sans serif used. Simple, direct - no fluff. In contrast the use of serif
type gives a sense of authenticity to the publication.

The English Literature curriculum is split in to multiple sections. The two focused on in this
project are 19th Century Novel and Modern Text Prose (Post 1914). There are similar but separate
issues to address with both of these sections.
When it’s comes to 19th Century Novels, the majority of the authors selected for analyse are Cis-
Het White Males, with the maybe the option of Austen or Bronte. At the time white men were
the most likely to get their work published, to receive critical praise and have their novels go on to
become ‘Classics.’ However there are other brilliant works of the era written by Women, People
of Colour and Queer Folk. Adding these to the curriculum would not only make the selection of
authors more diverse and a better reflection of society but it also allow for a more varied subject
matter within the novels themselves.
When it’s comes to the Modern Prose (post 1914) section there is still an issue with diversity
though it is better than the previous section, the main issue is that the Novel aren’t in fact all that
modern. For conversation with my tutor, friends and family members aged 60-13 years old it seems
that we have all read or are reading the same book when we were in school. Along with the fact
that none of the novel were written this century, this tell me that it’s in dire need of an update, to
keep young adult more engaged in the subject matter.

Autobiographical Fiction designed for a YA audience as a means to diversify the GCSE curriculum.
Virginia Woolf's Orlando 'The longest and most charming love letter in literature', playfully constructs the figure of Orlando as the fictional embodiment of Woolf's close friend and lover, Vita
Sackville-West. Spanning three centuries, the novel opens as Orlando, a young nobleman in Elizabeth's England, awaits a visit from the Queen and traces his experience with first love as England under
James I lies locked in the embrace of the Great Frost.

A visit from
the Goon
Squad.
Fiction designed for a YA audience as a means to diversify the GCSE curriculum.
A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan tracks the passage of time in the lives of individuals in the rock music industry. The chapters defy con-
ventional temporal and narrative chronologies, and each one is a self-contained episode in an unfolding network of stories, spanning six decades from
the 1970s to the 2020s. The novel employs various narrative formats, such as the short story, the magazine article, and the graphic slide presentation.
The variety of storytelling methods provides a variety of perspectives on the characters.

Talking Turkeys is an unconventional collection of straight-talking
poems about heroes, revolutions, racism, love and animal rights,
among other subjects, that will entice many new readers to poetry.
A ground-breaking children’s poetry collection – playful, clever
and provocative – this is performance poetry on the page at its very
best.

to associate with the old west such as
cowboy boots and Stetsons.
The colour palette is based on old
school American rational tattoos.
Unlike modern tattoos where virtually
any colour is possible, originally tattoos
were done in only a few colors—black,
green, red, and yellow.

Protest.
As my dissertation was based upon the use of
protest art. This publication of the essay used
headings and sections of text adapted into the
style of traditional protest poster with the sec-
tion of essay printed on the reverse.
'Over the past few decades, peoples
relationship with technology has evolved; with
a majority of people using at least one form
of social media. This essay delves into how
modern existence has impacted activism and
protest art; with a focus on protests in Hong
Kong, Beirut and The United States. It aims
to show how this growing use of social media
has aided large scale participation in activism,
and how this can lead to genuine social change.
With historical support, individual first-hand
accounts and an interview with current activist
designer Anthony Burrill; it shows clearly that
Protest art has remained a constant part of
rebellion against the establishment, and the
impact of social media has only furthered it’s
advancement to garner public support and
cause substantial change.'

anticipation, representing ‘winning isn’t everything’ and showing the variety and energy of the games, using a simple
