Andhra Pradesh - Climate







Andhra Pradesh Climate is generally hot and humid
Andhra Pradesh is situated in tropical zone from the
point of view of its latitudinal location
The States Climate depends on south – west monsoon
The average maximum temperature in most parts of
Andhra Pradesh varies from 23 o to 28 o C . Minimum
temperature varies from 10 o – 12 o C .
Andhra Pradesh Climate is divided
into 4 seasons








Winter Season
( January – February)
Summer Season
( March – Mid June)
Rainy Season - South – west
monsoon
( Mid June – September)
North – east monsoon season
( October to December)
Winter Season

• The weather is cold from December to
February.
Anantapur, Chittor, Hyderabad and
Nizambad are more cooler than
other districts
The Plateau
region of
Rayalseema
and
Telangana are
cooler when
compared to
Coastal
region.
Summer Season
• The summer is from March to first week of
June.
• Temperature gradually increases from
March and some places it touches above
42 o C mark.

• Chittoor and Anantapur districts which are
adjacent to Mysore plateau are cooler
than other regions.
• Horsely hills in Chittoor district act as
summer resorts because of Cooler
Climate.

• Though it is extremely hot during day time
in Rayalseema and Telangana, it
pleasantly cools down during nights.
• Coastal areas experience moderate
temperatures due to the nearness of the
sea.

• Rainy season commences with the arrival of

June.
About 800mm of rainfall in Northern region occur
About 400mm of rainfall in Southern region
occur.
When compared, Telangana region receives the
highest amount of rainfall during south-west
monsoon.
North-east monsoon
season
• North-east monsoon sets in October.
• Southern parts of Andhra Pradesh
•

receive more rainfall than Northern
Parts.
Depressions are formed over the Bay of
Bengal during this season and Coastal
region will receive more rain.
As a result southern coastal districts
suffer from cyclones with heavy rains.
