Click Onto the any of
the log in buttons
displayed on the screen

You will get a screen
similar to what is
being displayed on
the slide.

Type in your
username and
password. Then
click on the log
in button

Points to Note
 If you misspell either your username and password you will not be able to log on
to the LMS

 The password is case sensitive

Once you have logged onto
the LMs you will get a
screen
similar to what you are
seeing on the screen.
Note:
The course that you have
been
enrolled to will display
under
the course category

CUSTOMISING YOUR PROFILE

To customize your user profile
go to the tab labelled settings.
After which you will click on the
text titled “Edit profile”
INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS:

This option enables you
to change your
password. The unmask
option enables you to
view the characters you
are typing in.

This area enables you to
type in a brief bio about
yourself.

In this box
you can type
your interests/
hobbies
This is an
optional area that
enables you to add
details of your other
social network accounts

This area allows
you to upload your
profile picture

To finalise the
changes click on update profile

 Type in a bio about yourself
 Type in your Interests and hobbies

Once you have entered the
course. You will see a place
titled News Forum.
Click on “News Forum”

You will view a post
titled “Welcome to the
eFacilitation Course”
Click on the title
“Welcome to the
eFacilitation Course”

Click on reply to
introduce yourself
to the rest of the class
using the guidelines
provided

typing the introduction. Click on
“Post to Forum”

 Introduce yourself to the efacilitation participants using the guideline provided

Important Points to Note
 Once you have introduced yourself to other participants you can view what
they have posted by going back to “News Forum” and “Welcome to the
efacilitation course”
 The “News Forum” can also be used to post announcements to students much
like a notice board
 The course administrator can act as moderator and block all introductions
until he has gone through them before making them visible to the class

To access
collaborative facilities
Click on Turn
editing on
Note
For any change place
to occur in Moodle
turn editing has to be on

You will notice that
the LMS will give you
editing options as
displayed in the adjacent
image

Click on the part labelled
“Add an activity or
resource”

A screen similar to the what
is being displayed will appear.
Look for the area titled forum
and click on the button before
just before the word forum

This is where you will
type in the title of your
forum

This is where you will
Put in the description
Of the forum

As the creator of the forum
you are able to block view
Of the content that has been
uploaded by participants in
case you need to filter the
forums

Once you have posted the content
you can either click on “save and
return to the course” or save and
display

To reply to any
discussion topic that
has been added click
on “Add a new
discussion topic”
PRACTICAL EXERCISE: CREATE A FORUM
Now that you have learnt how to create a forum. Go to your LMS and create a
forum for discussion using either of the following topics:
 Challenges that you face as a tutor
 Experiences using ICT in facilitation
COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT

Click on add an
activity or resource
COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT

Click on Chat, after
which you will go down
and click on “Add”
COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT
Just like in
forums you
will need to add
a topic. And a
description of the
chat session

Once you are through with
adding the details above
click on “Save and display”
COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT

Once you have created the
chat session. You will be able
to view details pertaining to the
Chat session you have created.
COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT
Note:
 There is a difference between clicking on “Save and Display” and “Save and
return to course”. “Save and Display” shows the individual chat session that
you created, whereas “Save and return to course” displays the list of all chat
sessions that have been added.
PRACTICAL SESSION: ADD A CHAT SESSION
Add a chat session with either of the following topics:
 Your level of confidence so far related to efacilitation
 The state of ICT infrastructure in your province

Note
In order to join a chat session you have to click on “enter chat now” under the
particular topic of interest to you.

 The 25 styles of blogging and when to use each one of them

entry to

Click on save
changes

  • 2. SESSION OBJECTIVES Welcome to session one of efacilitation. In this session you will cover the following topics:  Introduction to LMS  Customising your user profile  Introducing yourself in an online environment
  • 3. INTRODUCTION TO LMS  What does the acronym LMS stand for? Type your thoughts down on your word processor  What does an LMS do? Type your thoughts down on your word processor  The difference between open source software and proprietary software? Type your thoughts down on your word processor
  • 4. INTRODUCTION TO LMS  Examples of Learning Management Systems Open Source Software • Moodle • Sakai • Claroline • eFront • Dokeos Cloud/SAAS Proprietary • Docebo • Digital Chalk • Blackboard • eCollege • Global Scholar • Hotchalk
  • 5. INTRODUCTION TO LMS Easy creation of courses from other resources Course content can be accessed by different learners. Including content from different learners Enrollment and learner authentication that is simple and secure LMS An active support community to help sort problems and generate new ideas Affordability Learner involvement
  • 6. Logging onto the LMS INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS Click Onto the any of the log in buttons displayed on the screen
  • 7. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS 192.168.1.36 You will get a screen similar to what is being displayed on the slide. Type in your username and password. Then click on the log in button
  • 8. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS Points to Note  If you misspell either your username and password you will not be able to log on to the LMS  The password is case sensitive
  • 9. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS Once you have logged onto the LMs you will get a screen similar to what you are seeing on the screen. Note: The course that you have been enrolled to will display under the course category
  • 10. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: CUSTOMISING YOUR PROFILE To customize your user profile go to the tab labelled settings. After which you will click on the text titled “Edit profile”
  • 11. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: CUSTOMISING YOUR PROFILE This option enables you to change your password. The unmask option enables you to view the characters you are typing in. This area enables you to type in a brief bio about yourself.
  • 12. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: CUSTOMISING YOUR USER PROFILE In this box you can type your interests/ hobbies This is an optional area that enables you to add details of your other social network accounts This area allows you to upload your profile picture
  • 13. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: CUSTOMISING YOUR USER PROFILE To finalise the changes click on update profile
  • 14. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: PRACTICAL EXERCISE  Customise your user profile:  Upload your picture  Type in a bio about yourself  Type in your Interests and hobbies

  • 16. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: INTRODUCING YOURSELF ONLINE Once you have entered the course. You will see a place titled News Forum. Click on “News Forum”
  • 17. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: INTRODUCING YOURSELF ONLINE You will view a post titled “Welcome to the eFacilitation Course” Click on the title “Welcome to the eFacilitation Course”
  • 18. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: INTRODUCING YOURSELF ONLINE Click on reply to introduce yourself to the rest of the class using the guidelines provided
  • 19. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: INTRODUCING YOURSELF ONLINE Type in the introduction in This box
  • 20. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: INTRODUCING YOURSELF ONLINE Once you are through with typing the introduction. Click on “Post to Forum”
  • 21. PRACTICAL EXERCISE: INTRODUCING YOURSELF ONLINE  Introduce yourself to the efacilitation participants using the guideline provided
  • 22. INTRODUCTION TO THE LMS: INTRODUCING YOURSELF ONLINE Important Points to Note  Once you have introduced yourself to other participants you can view what they have posted by going back to “News Forum” and “Welcome to the efacilitation course”  The “News Forum” can also be used to post announcements to students much like a notice board  The course administrator can act as moderator and block all introductions until he has gone through them before making them visible to the class
  • 23. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: ADDING A FORUM To access collaborative facilities Click on Turn editing on Note For any change place to occur in Moodle turn editing has to be on
  • 24. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: ADDING A FORUM You will notice that the LMS will give you editing options as displayed in the adjacent image Click on the part labelled “Add an activity or resource”
  • 25. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: ADDING A FORUM A screen similar to the what is being displayed will appear. Look for the area titled forum and click on the button before just before the word forum
  • 26. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: ADDING A FORUM This is where you will type in the title of your forum This is where you will Put in the description Of the forum
  • 27. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: ADDING A FORUM As the creator of the forum you are able to block view Of the content that has been uploaded by participants in case you need to filter the forums Once you have posted the content you can either click on “save and return to the course” or save and display
  • 28. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: ADDING A FORUM To reply to any discussion topic that has been added click on “Add a new discussion topic”
  • 29. PRACTICAL EXERCISE: CREATE A FORUM Now that you have learnt how to create a forum. Go to your LMS and create a forum for discussion using either of the following topics:  Challenges that you face as a tutor  Experiences using ICT in facilitation
  • 30. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT Click on add an activity or resource
  • 31. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT Click on Chat, after which you will go down and click on “Add”
  • 32. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT Just like in forums you will need to add a topic. And a description of the chat session Once you are through with adding the details above click on “Save and display”
  • 33. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT Once you have created the chat session. You will be able to view details pertaining to the Chat session you have created.
  • 34. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: CHAT Note:  There is a difference between clicking on “Save and Display” and “Save and return to course”. “Save and Display” shows the individual chat session that you created, whereas “Save and return to course” displays the list of all chat sessions that have been added.
  • 35. PRACTICAL SESSION: ADD A CHAT SESSION Add a chat session with either of the following topics:  Your level of confidence so far related to efacilitation  The state of ICT infrastructure in your province Note In order to join a chat session you have to click on “enter chat now” under the particular topic of interest to you.
  • 36. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: BLOGS  What is a Blog?  The 25 styles of blogging and when to use each one of them
  • 38. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: BLOGS Click on add a new entry to add a blog
  • 39. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: BLOGS Type in the title of your blog Type in a description of your blog
  • 40. COLLABORATIVE FACILITIES: BLOGS In this area you will type in key words that will help people look for the content related to the blog Click on save changes
  • 41. PRACTICAL EXERCISE: ADDING A BLOG  Add a blog entry writing about an interesting event or place you visited recently
