The target audience for the music video is teenagers and young adults aged 13-23 who listen to genres like indie rock, pop, rock, hip hop, R&B, house, and electronic pop. Research found most in this age group care about their appearance and how they are perceived by friends and romantic interests. They enjoy spending time with friends, going to parties, and shopping at stores like H&M and Topshop. Music videos are important to this audience as the visuals help them understand the song's meaning and get a sense of the artist. An effective music video should have thought-provoking, narrative visuals that are relevant to the song and include attractive people and an interesting storyline.

Target Teen Music Video Audience
1. Target Audience Profile
The target audience for my music video is teenagers and young adults between the ages of
13-23. The reason why I have chosen this as my target audience is because this particular
age range are the type of people that listen to the popular conventions of music such as “
Indie-Rock, Pop, Rock, Hip Hop and RNB, House and electronic pop and my the genre of my
music video is “electric pop”.
Psychographics
Both male and females between the ages of 13-23 that listen to this particular genre of
music are normally not sporty competitively, they also like to spend times with friends and
go to parties with them. The type of attire that they wear is normally skinny jean and retro
attire. They also sometimes where attire that people may consider to be urban. The
majority of people that that suit this particular psychographics are normal self-conscious
about their appearance and the way in which they appear to their friends.
Research on teenage boys
My research in teenage boys shows that there are mainly two type of teenage boys. The
first types are the type that is sporty or completely academically focused. The other type is
more relaxed free and popular due to their social status within their community.
A similarity that both type of teenagers have is that they care about the way in which they
are seen in the public eye whether it be from people that are close friends to them, people
that they don’t know or more often than not people that they are attracted to.
Research shows that “30% of men are leaving with degrees”. More recent research shows
that the reason why men in general are not getting full degrees is because they feel that
they are “disinterested” in the degrees.

3. Research on females’ show that 40% of female students leave with degrees. Just like male
teenagers, psychologist in America say that there are two types of female teenagers. The
first type are those that are academically or sport wise focused, whereas the other half are
like the males more relaxed and are popular in their social surroundings. But just like the
male teenager, the main feature that both types of female teenagers have is that they care
about the way in which they appear to their peers or people that they are attracted to.
Why University
From asking 10 friends both male and female friends that don’t intend to go to university,
the reason why do not want to go is because they believe that if they go to university, they

not to go to university is because they want to earn money quickly and start adulthood.
On the other hand, from asking my friends about the reason why they wanted to go to
university, one of the main reasons is because they want to give themselves the best
opportunity to have a good earning job that might fulfil their particular dreams or
aspirations.
These results and findings help me realise that my particular target audience can be
perceived as like to not be rigid and not following the norm to a certain extent but like to
explore and follow their dreams. These results also coincide with the interest and passion
that my target audience tend to have.
Interest and passions
In the stats listed below for the different particular subjects, I asked 25 people on their
opinions and questions on what they do.
For male teenagers, the passions that my particular targeted demographic are normally
musically based. Whether it be playing music or listening to it. Research also shows that 75%
of teenagers normally have the same passions and interest as their friends and are heavily
influenced by them in terms of the things that they find interesting and things that they do
not.
Another interest that specifically male teenagers have is sports. Whether playing it or
watching it. Research shows that almost 80% of teenagers are active in a sport whether it
physically or visually.
In the same way that male teenagers like to do things with their specific friendship groups,
female teenagers also like to do this. In fact 93% of teenagers said that they would rather
share the same passions and interest and interest with their friends and explore them with
them as well.
Normal passion and interest for female teenagers involve things such as shopping, listening
to music, attending parties and keeping up with the latest celebrity gossip. Both male and
female teenagers tend to shop as middle class shops such as “Top mam, H&M and JD
Sports.
Importance placed on music videos
From asking 10 people that my main target audience I found out that 70% believe that the
music video is “to a certain degree important” to the way in which they view the music
song. This suggests that my particular target audience believe that the music video has
some affect in which they perceive the song and whether they like it or not. These results
were not surprising in the sense that from further research into the passions and interest of
teenagers of my target audience, I realised that the majority of the passions and interest
that my target audience like involve visually taking in things more often than not.
5. Further research into finding out why this was the case showed the 90% believed that music
videos where “quiet important” because it helps them further understand what the song is
about and also because it also allows them to have insight into what the artist is like.
Although the results show that there is major importance on how the music video is viewed,
it is important that I must not forget that the song also has to also touch and interest my
particular target audience.
What makes a good music video?
According to my research, my target audience believe that thought-provoking visual that are
relevant to the song make a good music video. Following “Goodwin’s” theory on music
video, this comes under the category of narrative. This particular type of music video is also
very popular with the mainstream genres of music. 60% of people that come under target
audience believe that the reason why it is important for good visuals is because they it
captivates them more.
The majority of target audience also believe that the same stereotypical conventions in a
music video should be evident in a music video. Things such as interesting storyline,
attractive men a women and spontaneous things.
