Pluralism And Diversity Research Paper
Pluralism and diversity, often used interchangeably, are among those buzzwords that some of us instantly recognize. Indeed, the world we live in today
is shaped by a plurality of pluralisms, including but not limited to religious pluralism, cultural pluralism, ethnic diversity, and multiple group identities.

As a child, I was well known as the shy girl with her nose stuck in a book. It wasn't until middle school that I learned to be outgoing, and to enjoy the
company of others more. I decided as a seventh grader that if I was going to grow as a person, I eventually needed to understand how to communicate
with others better. Now is always the best time to start learning, so I launched myself out of my comfort zone and applied for both National Junior
Honors Society and Student Council. To my delight I was accepted into both, and the time I spent in those groups taught me a great deal about working
with others and communicating thoughts and ideas. I even stood in front of my church at the age of fourteen and gave my testimony before my...show

During my interactions as a leader of a community group at school, I began to understand that hanging out with people did not have to mean being
the entertainment or always telling people what to do. Sometimes, a little bit of silent attention is the best thing you can give to a person. In the
past couple of years, I have learned to cultivate my spiritual gift of knowledge. During the year of 2016, I read the bible chronologically from cover
to cover. I still read my Bible consistently, even if I am finishing homework at midnight. I also use a method similar to the Leitner system in order
to keep large passages of scripture in my memory. These words inspire and guide me during hard times. We don't always have a bible on hand, and
when we do we don't always know where to look for inspiration. However, disciplining myself to keep learning about the Bible keeps it fresh and
helps me to apply it to my life, giving me strength in trials. My psychology teacher often took time out of his class to have us take personality tests
or answer introspective questions. One day, he asked us to choose from a list of about fifty adjectives the seven words that best described us.
Eventually, he had us reduce this selection to just four adjectives and asked us to share them with the class. Two of my finalists were logic and
creativity. He was quite surprised and told me that he didn't often see people that considered themselves to be both. However, I do value both qualities

Racism, Racism And Ethnic Diversity Essay
Problem Statement
In recent times, racist activities have been prevalent in American communities which is a long standing issue between blacks and whites especially in
colleges and the society at large. A freshman at ETSU counter protested along with the black racial group in a provocative way to showcase the depth
of the tussle between blacks and whites in the USA.
Problem Statement Description
Racism and ethnic diversity has been "America's" tradition towards the blacks and other racial groups since the early 1620's up till date (John, 2016).
With the recent incident at ETSU, it indicates a long trend of struggle about blacks being not generally accepted by the whites. The recent hate speech
and racially charged taunting that happened at ETSU was a contribution of management problem and organizational problem.
Considering the magnitude of different racial groups(students) at ETSU with respect to racism rate in America, ETSU management should have
implemented proactive measure rather than reactive measures to discourage racism within the university. The management made a simple decision by
expelling Tristan Rettke out of the university and never will he be enrolled in the future. Such steps indicate that the institution respects everyone
irrespective of color and there's no preference in dealing with individuals. Factors either from management, technology or organizational that
contributed to this problem which shall be discussed briefly below.

Why Is Diversity Important Essay
"It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength." ― Maya Angelou.
Diversity is an important and beautiful concept in our society and this essay will prove why. Reasons to support this are it makes each individual life
worthwhile, it helps us evolve and become better and it can build closer relationships.
Till this day no one has ever lived the exact same life as another person. While we can experience similar situations or be in the same place as an
event was happening, the event would never be exactly the same. This is because we have diverse thoughts, views and feelings. Diversity also allows
us to make our own decisions on what we want to do and who we want to be....show more content...
When we meet new people, we create small talk discussing about interest, dislikes etc. this then may lead to a new friendships or another person to
avoid. Our diverse thoughts, interests and experiences steer us to the people we are close to and love. If everyone was exactly the same our
relationships would be meaningless because rather than having a two way relationship , it will be like talking to yourself. Also because everyone
has their interests and experiences when we meet people who have similar interest and experiences, we can feel excited or relieved knowing there is
someone who we can relate to. This then can create a special bond. Some may believe diversity can divide us because we may disagree on opinions,
have different lifestyles, create subcultures etc. however ignorance is what divides us. We can become closer as a society by embracing everyone's
differences rather than excluding others because of their differences. In other words with diversity will come unity.
To conclude diversity is a beautiful and important concept that strengthen our society by allowing us to have different personalities, opinions and
experiences that makes us the people we are, providing us opportunities to grow and learn and creating bonds between

Many people have come to realize that diversity has an impact on academic outcomes, and yet many people still believe that the impact of diversity is
negative due to the understanding that students of different cultures tend to have generally lower scores on standardized test. What many don't know is
that diversity can have a positive impact on students' academic achievement, rather than a negative. Exposure to diversity has a positive impact on
academic achievement in many ways, through advanced student learning, cognitive performance and when properly used.
There has been many studies proving that diversity can positively impact student performance. In this cross– national study done to prove that cultural
diversity in the classroom will increase academic performance. This study involved 150 schools within 57 countries on a basis of 15–year–old
students. 35 students were selected from each school to complete a series of test. From those results the subjects were scaled to a mean score for
immigrant and native students. Studies showed that cultural diversity had a positive impact on academic performance, for both native and immigrant
students. In all areas of this study, there was a positive correlation between the amount of racial diversity present and the increase in academic
performance. (Konan) In a similar situation, a study was done to properly show that impact of diversity on academic outcomes. In this method, many
factors were involved including contact diversity,

My Experience With Diversity And Diversity
As I reflect over my life, I appreciate the many diverse experiences I've came to encounter. My experience with diversity dates back to birth. I am
from a small rural town, Moss Point, MS. and notably the last state to abolish slavery. The town currently has a population of 13,704 people and
consists of 73% Blacks or African Americans, 23% Caucasian, 1% Hispanic or Latino and 1% bi–racial.
Regardless of my town's homogeneous population, I grew up accepting diversity and valuing individual differences even amid the same racial
group. One of the first experiences of diversity I can vividly recall is the various religious beliefs within the Black community. My parents believed
"exposure to the world around you" was one of the primary factors for raising a well–rounded individual. Therefore, we often visited different churches
of various faiths.
Within my own family, there were different doctrines. My great–grandmother was Pentecostal, my grandmother is a Baptist and my mother is an
Atheist. While everyone seemed to have different belief systems, I participated in them all. I had to learn to adapt to each religious institution. In one
church I was allowed to wear pants and women could also be pastors; whereas, in another, women could only wear full length dresses and were not
allowed in the pulpit.
Nonetheless, my parents consistently reiterated the world is comprised of many different races and complexities, which in turn make the universe a
beautiful place. They stressed

Minority Scholarships
The various ethnicities that comprise the student body across the country has influenced education in today's society. At any time one can look up the
breakdown of the different ethnic groups in schools, and I see the greatest effect of this statistic translating into money being given to further
education particularly at the college level. With senior year in progress, college is right around the corner, and much more inevitable for a successful
future than ever before in the world we live in. But in order to receive an education at the collegiate level, we must be able to afford it, which is a
pivotal factor regarding choices in individuals' lives. While everyone is different, the scholarships that a certain person is presented with are much

If the concept of the social construct is created to include race relations, isn't irony at the center of the reasoning behind "equal" education? Rather
than enforcing criteria to attain a scholarship, my opinion is that these scholarships influence people's views on race relations. President Obama
brought up a very paramount remark in "Poll finds most think race relations are bad" by stating, "For too long we've been blind to the way past
injustices continue to shape the present" (Sack). I believe this is an accurate comment since as of late we have seen the support, as well as the
objection, towards the Confederate flag flying in South Carolina. In other words, turmoil has not completely gone away in regards to physical
appearance as depicted by the discrepancy in South Carolina, demonstrating the controversy between those of various looks with their scholarship
opportunities. With this being said, it can be inferred that there are multiple outlooks on the scholarship considerations. In fact, white students receive
more than three–quarters (76%) of all institutional merit–based scholarship and grant funding while making up 61.8% of the population (Kantrowitz)
as opposed to minorities, making up the remaining 38.2% of the population, receiving 48.5% of financial aid grants because they are more likely to be

shown through my many volunteer experiences that would help me excel in this position.
I graduated at The Abelard School with a Full Academic Scholarship, while maintaining a 95% average. I have received numerous of awards and

How Can I Contribute To Diversity Essay
Diversity is an essential part of life because without it we wouldn't be able to collaboratively take down issues. At least within my experience
professionally, academically and through volunteering I have seen various accounts where people from all different backgrounds come together to
accomplish amazing feats. All of these accounts have impacted me and expanded my perception of the world and most importantly in a positive
way. Currently I experience diversity on a daily basis while working at CU Boulder, as I have been given the opportunity to lead a team of 15
individuals that range in age and also cultural backgrounds. With my team being a majority of Laotian and Spanish speaking individuals every day I

I feel this has been a blessing for me because every class I have had there I have gotten to meet such diverse groups of people, attending both
morning classes and night classes. These encounters have always been amazing to have due to the fact I have been able to meet individuals again
from all walks of life and I have been given the insight of hands on experience which brought added dialogue into various classroom topics. After being
in a community college setting it also has reminded me how much education matters, one memory to always keep this idea fresh is the class I had
shared with an older woman who was an HR Manager. She lacked a degree though and without a degree she couldn't excel any further, so she
decided to return to take night classes. The class was an Ethics class so having her professional background was an amazing perspective to have. I
also remember having an older gentlemen who was just covered from head to toe in tattoos. He was going back to school so he could excel in the
HVAC business and he almost always had some of the best questions to ask which provoked thought for

Essay on Diversity in Education
Like it or not, there has always been diversity among students in the classroom. It is the fact that each and every student is unique. From every
circumstance, students bring a varying set of values, perspectives, and beliefs to the learning environment. Understanding the character of students is
important in order to become a competent teacher. In fact, teachers should be aware and recognize students, as unique individuals, all acquire
information differently than others. Some of these differences are due to developmental variations in cognitive, physical, intellectual, moral, emotional,
and social changes caused by maturation and experience. And this reality of classroom conditions makes instruction much more challenging for

Among their interest in the education of ethnic–minority Deaf college students, they are best known for their notable achievements in addressing
various aspects in education of the Deaf. For example, Dr. Ila Parasnis has not only published and presented her works at different conferences but
she has also edited several books on cultural identity and diversity in Deaf Education. As for Dr. Susan D. Fischer's accomplishments, it mainly lies in
the publication of 28 different citations in several journals as well as chapters in books that relate to the cultural diversity for deaf education (Author

Education that they are able to speak about issues relating to the field as authoritative and credible figures.
Now, the authors have stated three main points in this article regarding improvements to the education of ethnic–minority Deaf college students. First,
the authors emphasize the importance of diversity in the work force so that students can make their own decisions in choosing their own role models.
This article states that "role models are both essential and critical. They serve several purposes: (1) We talk about the importance of cultural diversity,

Growing up I did not have many experiences with diversity because I was a sheltered child. In elementary school, I use to think that people with
disabilities were different because they were not in the classroom. I would see them at lunch at school and be nervous to go near them, or I would
turn my head. As I got older, and went off to college I had the chance to experience being around individuals with disabilities through an exceptional
children's class that I took at York Technical College. While taking this class, I had the opportunity to go to a classroom to observe and interact with
the children. I learned from this that they are not any different from me, and some are even doing better than people who do not have a disability. I loved

The Importance Of Sports Diversity
Diversity originally was referred to as race, gender, or sexual orientation, but today its meaning has expanded. Diversity also involves economic,
educational, and generational differences. Diversity's counterpart inclusion supports that all individuals are valuable to the organization, not just those
who are different. Diversity and inclusion have great value to the performance of any entity. Ethics deals with moral principles that govern a person's
behavior. Throughout the semester we have discussed diversity, inclusion, and ethics in sport and how they affect individuals in the workplace as well
as life in general as I will discuss throughout my research. We've also applied these terms with classroom activities and relevant events held throughout
the semester including guest speakers, the boxing gala, and most recently the IFC. Sports play a major, if sometimes unappreciated, role in the lives of
Americans. (Simon, R., Torres, C. and Hager, P. (n.d.). Fair play.) America is a sports crazed culture that has overtime spread throughout the world.
Participating in sports can bring new challenges to an individual and teach valuable life lessons along the way. (Thornton, P., Champion, W. and
Ruddell, L. (2012). Sports ethics for sports management professionals. Sudbury, MA: Jones & Bartlett.) Concepts can be learned through sports such as
hard work, dedication, team building, competition, and sportsmanship, and these skills can be transferred to one's personal life. Many

this time all I felt was pressure to finally make a decision, a decision that I thought would affect my future, but instead of deciding I became stressed,

Ronald Reagan stated that, "there are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, and no barriers to our progress except
those we ourselves erect." Mr. Reagan's quote reminds me of the fact that as individuals, we are in control of our destiny; the only obstacle between
us and our dreams, is the ones we create. It is often said that a true leader is one who leads by example; through my community service and leadership
opportunities, I was able to become an example for not only youths in general, but also my community. As a female raised in the African–American

to the functioning of society. I have served as the Captain of my high school's Debate team which enabled me to reach out to a larger audience about
expressing themselves and the best ways to express themselves. Before going to debate competitions, it would be my duty to ensure that the debaters
have research prepared to make speeches for every bill on the docket. I hosted mock debates where we practice, question and organize every speech in
preparation for competition. Through my position, I was able to show my fellow debaters the importance of self–expression and the value of the
debate. I was able to bring about awareness on topics that affects high school and college students while proving to youths like myself how to
express themselves. As a leader, I helped prepare my team for visits to various courthouses in Palm Beach County where they met prominent
attorneys and judges. Due to my role as a leader and the help of teachers and counselors, our team has had great success and our school became an

A diversity scholar is an academically minded student who promotes diversity and evolvement in campus and community activities. We came to
Western Oregon University to further develop our education and experience a fully enriched college life. A diversity scholar exemplifies excellence in
academia, shows leadership qualities through volunteering, successfully balances school and social life, supports diversity on campus, and actively
participates with school sanctioned events. As a diversity scholar, maintaining a good academic stand is very important to me. Western Oregon

Study About 2017 Scholarship Reflection
As I think back to the vast number of cultural experiences I recently had the great privilege of being a part of, I feel I was able to grow not only as
a person but also as a future educator. Through studying abroad in both England and France, I became very aware of how my lack of cultural
experience affected me in both England and France and how my inability to speak French was a huge barrier to me while in France. Before taking
this trip, I had been out of the United States two times in my life. Once, to Mexico and the second trip was to Italy. Although this did give me some

The relaxed environment, friendly locals, and easy transportation made it very easy for me to see so many different places in London.
One of my favorite places that our study abroad group was able to visit was an inner–city school. After exploring the city of London, I rarely saw
much diversity. For the most part, I remember seeing people who were Caucasian which led me to believe that was the race of the majority of the
London locals. After visiting the school, however, I realized that I was very mistaken. As soon as we walked into the school, the first thing I noticed
was the vast number of different ethnicities present. I remember only seeing one Caucasian student in the entire school. Not only was there a strong
presence of multiple cultures but, all of these cultures were celebrated within the school. The day we arrived the students were having a showcase
where they had made food, decorations, and wore clothes from multiple countries. I remember thinking that this type of cultural celebration would be
so beneficial to help eliminate cultural biases in America. Of course, there was more to this school than just a large variety of ethnicities. Compared to
schools in the United States, this English school had a large focus on the arts, there was very little behavioral issues, and there were no disability access
requirements.

Reflective Essay: Applying To A Scholarship
I hesitated at first when debating whether or not I should apply to this scholarship; as a white person, I felt that it wouldn't be right to apply to a

As a Bulgarian, I feel that I can relate to at least some of the struggles faced today by people of color. People have teased me and have made
assumptions about me based on my nationality; I am a foreigner wherever I go. I am "the American" in Bulgaria, and "the Bulgarian" in America. I
have been called a communist, and have had my Bulgarian heritage generalized to being "basically like Russia." I know how simultaneously
frustrating and painful such experiences can be. I have been able to deal with this struggles, but I know others are not as fortunate. I can only imagine

Pluralism And Diversity Research Paper

  • 1. Pluralism And Diversity Research Paper Pluralism and diversity, often used interchangeably, are among those buzzwords that some of us instantly recognize. Indeed, the world we live in today is shaped by a plurality of pluralisms, including but not limited to religious pluralism, cultural pluralism, ethnic diversity, and multiple group identities. • 2. As a child, I was well known as the shy girl with her nose stuck in a book. It wasn't until middle school that I learned to be outgoing, and to enjoy the company of others more. I decided as a seventh grader that if I was going to grow as a person, I eventually needed to understand how to communicate with others better. Now is always the best time to start learning, so I launched myself out of my comfort zone and applied for both National Junior Honors Society and Student Council. To my delight I was accepted into both, and the time I spent in those groups taught me a great deal about working with others and communicating thoughts and ideas. I even stood in front of my church at the age of fourteen and gave my testimony before my...show more content... During my interactions as a leader of a community group at school, I began to understand that hanging out with people did not have to mean being the entertainment or always telling people what to do. Sometimes, a little bit of silent attention is the best thing you can give to a person. In the past couple of years, I have learned to cultivate my spiritual gift of knowledge. During the year of 2016, I read the bible chronologically from cover to cover. I still read my Bible consistently, even if I am finishing homework at midnight. I also use a method similar to the Leitner system in order to keep large passages of scripture in my memory. These words inspire and guide me during hard times. We don't always have a bible on hand, and when we do we don't always know where to look for inspiration. However, disciplining myself to keep learning about the Bible keeps it fresh and helps me to apply it to my life, giving me strength in trials. My psychology teacher often took time out of his class to have us take personality tests or answer introspective questions. One day, he asked us to choose from a list of about fifty adjectives the seven words that best described us. Eventually, he had us reduce this selection to just four adjectives and asked us to share them with the class. Two of my finalists were logic and creativity. He was quite surprised and told me that he didn't often see people that considered themselves to be both. However, I do value both qualities and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Racism, Racism And Ethnic Diversity Essay Problem Statement In recent times, racist activities have been prevalent in American communities which is a long standing issue between blacks and whites especially in colleges and the society at large. A freshman at ETSU counter protested along with the black racial group in a provocative way to showcase the depth of the tussle between blacks and whites in the USA. Problem Statement Description Racism and ethnic diversity has been "America's" tradition towards the blacks and other racial groups since the early 1620's up till date (John, 2016). With the recent incident at ETSU, it indicates a long trend of struggle about blacks being not generally accepted by the whites. The recent hate speech and racially charged taunting that happened at ETSU was a contribution of management problem and organizational problem. Considering the magnitude of different racial groups(students) at ETSU with respect to racism rate in America, ETSU management should have implemented proactive measure rather than reactive measures to discourage racism within the university. The management made a simple decision by expelling Tristan Rettke out of the university and never will he be enrolled in the future. Such steps indicate that the institution respects everyone irrespective of color and there's no preference in dealing with individuals. Factors either from management, technology or organizational that contributed to this problem which shall be discussed briefly below. Management Factor One of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Why Is Diversity Important Essay "It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength." ― Maya Angelou. Diversity is an important and beautiful concept in our society and this essay will prove why. Reasons to support this are it makes each individual life worthwhile, it helps us evolve and become better and it can build closer relationships. Till this day no one has ever lived the exact same life as another person. While we can experience similar situations or be in the same place as an event was happening, the event would never be exactly the same. This is because we have diverse thoughts, views and feelings. Diversity also allows us to make our own decisions on what we want to do and who we want to be....show more content... When we meet new people, we create small talk discussing about interest, dislikes etc. this then may lead to a new friendships or another person to avoid. Our diverse thoughts, interests and experiences steer us to the people we are close to and love. If everyone was exactly the same our relationships would be meaningless because rather than having a two way relationship , it will be like talking to yourself. Also because everyone has their interests and experiences when we meet people who have similar interest and experiences, we can feel excited or relieved knowing there is someone who we can relate to. This then can create a special bond. Some may believe diversity can divide us because we may disagree on opinions, have different lifestyles, create subcultures etc. however ignorance is what divides us. We can become closer as a society by embracing everyone's differences rather than excluding others because of their differences. In other words with diversity will come unity. To conclude diversity is a beautiful and important concept that strengthen our society by allowing us to have different personalities, opinions and experiences that makes us the people we are, providing us opportunities to grow and learn and creating bonds between Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Many people have come to realize that diversity has an impact on academic outcomes, and yet many people still believe that the impact of diversity is negative due to the understanding that students of different cultures tend to have generally lower scores on standardized test. What many don't know is that diversity can have a positive impact on students' academic achievement, rather than a negative. Exposure to diversity has a positive impact on academic achievement in many ways, through advanced student learning, cognitive performance and when properly used. There has been many studies proving that diversity can positively impact student performance. In this cross– national study done to prove that cultural diversity in the classroom will increase academic performance. This study involved 150 schools within 57 countries on a basis of 15–year–old students. 35 students were selected from each school to complete a series of test. From those results the subjects were scaled to a mean score for immigrant and native students. Studies showed that cultural diversity had a positive impact on academic performance, for both native and immigrant students. In all areas of this study, there was a positive correlation between the amount of racial diversity present and the increase in academic performance. (Konan) In a similar situation, a study was done to properly show that impact of diversity on academic outcomes. In this method, many factors were involved including contact diversity, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. My Experience With Diversity And Diversity As I reflect over my life, I appreciate the many diverse experiences I've came to encounter. My experience with diversity dates back to birth. I am from a small rural town, Moss Point, MS. and notably the last state to abolish slavery. The town currently has a population of 13,704 people and consists of 73% Blacks or African Americans, 23% Caucasian, 1% Hispanic or Latino and 1% bi–racial. Regardless of my town's homogeneous population, I grew up accepting diversity and valuing individual differences even amid the same racial group. One of the first experiences of diversity I can vividly recall is the various religious beliefs within the Black community. My parents believed "exposure to the world around you" was one of the primary factors for raising a well–rounded individual. Therefore, we often visited different churches of various faiths. Within my own family, there were different doctrines. My great–grandmother was Pentecostal, my grandmother is a Baptist and my mother is an Atheist. While everyone seemed to have different belief systems, I participated in them all. I had to learn to adapt to each religious institution. In one church I was allowed to wear pants and women could also be pastors; whereas, in another, women could only wear full length dresses and were not allowed in the pulpit. Nonetheless, my parents consistently reiterated the world is comprised of many different races and complexities, which in turn make the universe a beautiful place. • 7. Minority Scholarships The various ethnicities that comprise the student body across the country has influenced education in today's society. At any time one can look up the breakdown of the different ethnic groups in schools, and I see the greatest effect of this statistic translating into money being given to further education particularly at the college level. With senior year in progress, college is right around the corner, and much more inevitable for a successful future than ever before in the world we live in. But in order to receive an education at the collegiate level, we must be able to afford it, which is a pivotal factor regarding choices in individuals' lives. While everyone is different, the scholarships that a certain person is presented with are much ...show more content... If the concept of the social construct is created to include race relations, isn't irony at the center of the reasoning behind "equal" education? Rather than enforcing criteria to attain a scholarship, my opinion is that these scholarships influence people's views on race relations. President Obama brought up a very paramount remark in "Poll finds most think race relations are bad" by stating, "For too long we've been blind to the way past injustices continue to shape the present" (Sack). I believe this is an accurate comment since as of late we have seen the support, as well as the objection, towards the Confederate flag flying in South Carolina. In other words, turmoil has not completely gone away in regards to physical appearance as depicted by the discrepancy in South Carolina, demonstrating the controversy between those of various looks with their scholarship opportunities. With this being said, it can be inferred that there are multiple outlooks on the scholarship considerations. In fact, white students receive more than three–quarters (76%) of all institutional merit–based scholarship and grant funding while making up 61.8% of the population (Kantrowitz) as opposed to minorities, making up the remaining 38.2% of the population, receiving 48.5% of financial aid grants because they are more likely to be low–income Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. How Can I Contribute To Diversity Essay Diversity is an essential part of life because without it we wouldn't be able to collaboratively take down issues. At least within my experience professionally, academically and through volunteering I have seen various accounts where people from all different backgrounds come together to accomplish amazing feats. All of these accounts have impacted me and expanded my perception of the world and most importantly in a positive way. Currently I experience diversity on a daily basis while working at CU Boulder, as I have been given the opportunity to lead a team of 15 individuals that range in age and also cultural backgrounds. I feel this has been a blessing for me because every class I have had there I have gotten to meet such diverse groups of people, attending both morning classes and night classes. These encounters have always been amazing to have due to the fact I have been able to meet individuals again from all walks of life and I have been given the insight of hands on experience which brought added dialogue into various classroom topics. After being in a community college setting it also has reminded me how much education matters, one memory to always keep this idea fresh is the class I had shared with an older woman who was an HR Manager. She lacked a degree though and without a degree she couldn't excel any further, so she decided to return to take night classes. The class was an Ethics class so having her professional background was an amazing perspective to have. I also remember having an older gentlemen who was just covered from head to toe in tattoos. He was going back to school so he could excel in the HVAC business and he almost always had some of the best questions to ask which provoked thought for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Essay on Diversity in Education Like it or not, there has always been diversity among students in the classroom. It is the fact that each and every student is unique. From every circumstance, students bring a varying set of values, perspectives, and beliefs to the learning environment. Understanding the character of students is important in order to become a competent teacher. In fact, teachers should be aware and recognize students, as unique individuals, all acquire information differently than others. Some of these differences are due to developmental variations in cognitive, physical, intellectual, moral, emotional, and social changes caused by maturation and experience. And this reality of classroom conditions makes instruction much more challenging for teachers and...show more content... For example, Dr. Ila Parasnis has not only published and presented her works at different conferences but she has also edited several books on cultural identity and diversity in Deaf Education. As for Dr. Susan D. Fischer's accomplishments, it mainly lies in the publication of 28 different citations in several journals as well as chapters in books that relate to the cultural diversity for deaf education (Author Detail). With all this in mind, it is clear that these professors have studied and gained in–depth knowledge for many years about the field of Deaf Education that they are able to speak about issues relating to the field as authoritative and credible figures. Now, the authors have stated three main points in this article regarding improvements to the education of ethnic–minority Deaf college students. First, the authors emphasize the importance of diversity in the work force so that students can make their own decisions in choosing their own role models. This article states that "role models are both essential and critical. • 11. Growing up I did not have many experiences with diversity because I was a sheltered child. In elementary school, I use to think that people with disabilities were different because they were not in the classroom. I would see them at lunch at school and be nervous to go near them, or I would turn my head. As I got older, and went off to college I had the chance to experience being around individuals with disabilities through an exceptional children's class that I took at York Technical College. While taking this class, I had the opportunity to go to a classroom to observe and interact with the children. I learned from this that they are not any different from me, and some are even doing better than people who do not have a disability. I loved Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Importance Of Sports Diversity Diversity originally was referred to as race, gender, or sexual orientation, but today its meaning has expanded. Diversity also involves economic, educational, and generational differences. Diversity's counterpart inclusion supports that all individuals are valuable to the organization, not just those who are different. Diversity and inclusion have great value to the performance of any entity. Ethics deals with moral principles that govern a person's behavior. Throughout the semester we have discussed diversity, inclusion, and ethics in sport and how they affect individuals in the workplace as well as life in general as I will discuss throughout my research. We've also applied these terms with classroom activities and relevant events held throughout the semester including guest speakers, the boxing gala, and most recently the IFC. Sports play a major, if sometimes unappreciated, role in the lives of Americans. (Simon, R., Torres, C. and Hager, P. (n.d.). Fair play.) America is a sports crazed culture that has overtime spread throughout the world. Participating in sports can bring new challenges to an individual and teach valuable life lessons along the way. (Thornton, P., Champion, W. and Ruddell, L. (2012). Sports ethics for sports management professionals. Sudbury, MA: Jones & Bartlett.) Concepts can be learned through sports such as hard work, dedication, team building, competition, and sportsmanship, and these skills can be transferred to one's personal life. • 14. Example Of A Scholarship Essay Ronald Reagan stated that, "there are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, and no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect." Mr. Reagan's quote reminds me of the fact that as individuals, we are in control of our destiny; the only obstacle between us and our dreams, is the ones we create. It is often said that a true leader is one who leads by example; through my community service and leadership opportunities, I was able to become an example for not only youths in general, but also my community. As a female raised in the African–American community, I wanted to be an example and beacon for my community. Before going to debate competitions, it would be my duty to ensure that the debaters have research prepared to make speeches for every bill on the docket. I hosted mock debates where we practice, question and organize every speech in preparation for competition. Through my position, I was able to show my fellow debaters the importance of self–expression and the value of the debate. I was able to bring about awareness on topics that affects high school and college students while proving to youths like myself how to express themselves. As a leader, I helped prepare my team for visits to various courthouses in Palm Beach County where they met prominent attorneys and judges. • 16. Reflection On Scholarship Reflection Study About 2017 Scholarship Reflection As I think back to the vast number of cultural experiences I recently had the great privilege of being a part of, I feel I was able to grow not only as a person but also as a future educator. Through studying abroad in both England and France, I became very aware of how my lack of cultural experience affected me in both England and France and how my inability to speak French was a huge barrier to me while in France. Before taking this trip, I had been out of the United States two times in my life. Once, to Mexico and the second trip was to Italy. Although this did give me some cultural experience, both times I left the country was before I had turned twelve years old and my parents accompanied me...show more content... The relaxed environment, friendly locals, and easy transportation made it very easy for me to see so many different places in London. One of my favorite places that our study abroad group was able to visit was an inner–city school. After exploring the city of London, I rarely saw much diversity. For the most part, I remember seeing people who were Caucasian which led me to believe that was the race of the majority of the London locals. After visiting the school, however, I realized that I was very mistaken. As soon as we walked into the school, the first thing I noticed was the vast number of different ethnicities present. I remember only seeing one Caucasian student in the entire school. Not only was there a strong presence of multiple cultures but, all of these cultures were celebrated within the school. The day we arrived the students were having a showcase where they had made food, decorations, and wore clothes from multiple countries. I remember thinking that this type of cultural celebration would be so beneficial to help eliminate cultural biases in America. Of course, there was more to this school than just a large variety of ethnicities. Compared to schools in the United States, this English school had a large focus on the arts, there was very little behavioral issues, and there were no disability access requirements. Equity, Diversity And Inclusion One of the most striking examples that is commonly known as 'Equity, Diversity and Inclusion' initiatives in higher education in the U.S. Since the last decade a range of proactive measures has innovated to stop various kinds of discrimination and promote institutional diversity.
