Example Of Personal Narrative Essay Examples
My father was raised in a predominantly Dominican neighborhood in Bronx, New York, home to the second largest number of Dominican people in
the world after Santo Domingo. He grew up in tenement buildings in makeshift rooms divided by sheets and cardboard in the basement along with
other immigrant families. He spoke only Spanish at home and at the public schools he went to. He joined the army at 17, like many other young men
from his neighborhood, trying to escape the poverty, violence and limited opportunities. When he left New York, he left behind his culture. His goal
was to be just an American. He set out to quickly assimilate into what he viewed as mainstream America. This included raising his children to be
American first.
As a result, I lacked a connection to my culture. I could not speak that well in Spanish. I did not know anything about Dominican food, culture or
music. The American...show more content...
Just as I did in high school I would seize opportunities to enrich the cultural knowledge of others at the school. In high school, I went beyond my own
culture. I am catholic. But, I started the school's first Muslim student association when I saw that there was a lot of isolation of Islamic students at the
school. The club created a place where we could share with other students about Islamic religion and culture. I also joined other students to create a
multicultural night. It is now a popular annual event that celebrates the diversity of our school community. People from the community, families, staff
and students are able to showcase art, performances and fashion from their culture. In college, I plan to continue contributing to my school community
by creating opportunities to learn about other perspectives. Through this work and individual conversations I hope to enrich other's experience by being
open to talking about our differences and

I was born to a Colombian father and a Slovak mother, who both happened to be studying in Germany at the time. Shortly after I was born we
moved to Brazil, making my first language Portuguese, while my father spoke to me in Spanish, my mother spoke to me in Slovak, and my parents
to each other in German. Before I was two we moved to California. It was just my parents and I since everyone else we knew was spread all over the
world.
As I went to daycare in this different world where everyone looked odd and didn't understand a word I was saying, I felt completely isolated. To this
day, I still remember the first time I was left out of my favorite game. I can still see that whirl of classmates dancing around me with their long blonde
hair whipping while they called out repulsive nicknames. Feeling ashamed of myself I sulked away to a nearby bookshelf and buried myself behind a
bean bag not understanding why they...show more content...
As they danced in a rainbow of colorful skirts and chanted songs as they moved I cheered loudly until I realized everyone was staring. My clapping
hands jolted to a stop. I could feel a deep red burning in my cheeks as my palms started to sweat. I buried my hands in my sweatshirt and did not make
a sound until they scampered off the stage. That afternoon I went home with a pit of self–disgust bubbling in my chest.
I made a plan to squeeze myself into a perfect mold to please those around me. My stinging loneliness was numbed as more people accepted me for
"who I was". I played the part that I reinvented for myself until I got to my Sophomore year of high school. The person who broke me free of this was
my mother. She introduced me to a leadership forum in San Francisco called Landmark. I stood there in front of over 100 students just like me, trying
to break down the things holding them back from being an effective leader. (add more

I came to the United States at a very tender age, 13 years old, without a family member so I was residing with my father's friend. After I graduated
from high school in 2007, at the age of 17, my guardian decided to move back to Ghana so I was here all by myself. I wanted to go to college as that
had always been my dream goal. I was therefore admitted to Medgar Evers College, where I am currently attending, in fall 2007.
Unfortunately, life events caused setbacks in pursing my education and finishing on the right time. As a teenager in a foreign land all alone without a
family and undocumented, life was unbearable. I was working so hard to solicit funds to pay for my rent and tuition; I was paying tuition out of
pocket as I did not qualify

My life experiences that set the seeds of my desire to work in the broad field of Social work were multifaceted to say the least. From the age of seven
I was harshly and subsequently abruptly introduced into the Social services/ foster–care system in a poor small town in rural Louisiana. Bouncing from
foster home to foster home for various reasons until a match was found. In hindsight this seems like a food bar version of an organ transplant.
Making life more complicated, but nonetheless educational, an enlistment into the Armed services quickly ensued my eighteenth birthday. Desperately
grasping for the deeper need for a family bond and acceptance. While serving in the Army, I was injured overseas. As a result of those injuries, I am a

I have encountered many of my peers taking drugs, listened to songs about drugs and even seen drugs romanticized on social media. Like most
teenagers, I lived in a world surrounded by drugs, but I had never had an experience with them. I came from a "picture–perfect" family and prior to my
freshman year of high school, I was somewhat narcissistic, believing that I was too good to even be associated with drugs. It was August 2012, the
summer before my freshman year of high school, and my life seemed as sound as ever. I was excited to begin the next step in my life and looked
forward to starting school. As the weeks passed and I was returning to my normal academic routine, my parents began acting strangely uneasy. I knew
there was something wrong. I questioned my parents' behavior and at first received few valuable answers in return....show more content...
Through his struggle, I gained much–needed compassion and understanding. Prior to this transition, I was unsympathetic and insensitive to others
and their struggles. I am now able to place myself in the position of others to understand their circumstances. I no longer judge others based solely
on my initial thoughts. I used to fear the discovery of my brother's problem would distort others' perceptions of me, now; I am no longer restrained
by what is regarded of me. Today, I am thankful for the circumstances I went through and proud of the person it shaped me to be. Through my
brother's disease, I discovered a sense of independence in myself. I am now self–reliant and no longer seek help in situations that I am capable of
controlling. My character has evolved tremendously and I have gained important qualities such as compassion and sympathy. My brother has now
been sober for over two years and as I prepare to take the next step in my life and venture to college, I am grateful for the events I underwent as they

As a semi–privileged white teenager, a member of my school's student government, my school's representative in my county's Youth Leadership
Program (YLP), and the winner of two Presidential Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), I may appear to have lived a charmed life. But, my life started
with serious problems which I never could have overcome without my own diligence and my loved ones' unconditional support.
As a baby, my speech and social skills developed unusually slowly. At fifteen months old, the state of Massachusetts flagged me as having "pervasive
developmental delays, not otherwise specified" and recommended me for an early intervention program. My parents, worried I might never live a
normal life, agreed to put me in it. When I was three,...show more content...
Hence, from third grade on, I was considered "twice–exceptional" and went to a completely different elementary school for advanced academics, still
on an IEP.
Switching to a new school was not entirely positive, however. I had to leave most of my friends behind, and the competitive environment made me a
clear target for bullies and induced chronic anxiety. I also gained weight, which elicited more harassment. This abysmal cycle climaxed towards the
end of third grade in a public cacophony of emotion, after which my homeroom teacher recommended me a reputable therapist she knew. I will refer to
him with the pseudonym, "Dr. J."
My sessions with Dr. J thoroughly remedied my sorrow. Not only did he give great advice, we played board games to build my interpersonal skills.
A parent often joined us as we talked, letting me vent to him/her as well. The results were tangible: I became calmer, my weight problems eased, and
my social skills improved. With support from my mother, father, Dr. J, and teachers, I made it through advanced academics in elementary school with
good grades, improving significantly in every area of my

In the summer of 2006, my life took its first unexpected turn: I was seventeen years old and diagnosed with endometriosis. After I exited what I
thought would be an exploratory laparoscopy, doctors explained how they had to perform a left–oophorectomy secondary to a large endometrioma. I
was devastated. However, what was most shocking to me was the fact that it was done without proper consent or any prior explanation of the surgery's
possible outcomes.
Eventually, I recuperated well and came to terms with the diagnosis, yet my life would dramatically change. Only 10 months later, during my second
year of medical training in Venezuela, the situation in the country had become too unstable and my parents made the difficult decision to immigrate. I
had not only to leave my home, family and close friends, but also restart medical training in the United States. My devotion for medicine and providing

gynecological procedures that put my surgical skills into practice for the first time, allowing me to realize my desire to become a surgeon. In clinic, I

Personal Narrative It was the year of 2013, I was going into 4th grade and school was just a month away. But it wasn't the 4th grade that I was
looking forward to, because my family was moving to a small town in Wisconsin named Mosinee. I grew up in a suburb just on the outskirts of the
great city known as Chicago. I loved it there, and wanted to live there for the rest of my life; I guess my parents didn't exactly feel the same way.
Little did I know that this move would shape my personality and change me in many different ways. And ultimately, to make me a better person as a
whole. When I told my very few friends that I was moving, they always asked why. I really didn't have an answer and didn't think about it that much.
The day eventually came, and we had all of our stuff was ready, my family was ready, but I wasn't. I couldn't imagine a life without my normal friends
and my normal school, and didn't realize that this move would be one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
After we gave our hardest goodbye, I started my journey to my new house. I tried to stay optimistic, but that was very hard because I new that I wasn't
going to get another friend until school started, which was a month away. I also don't have a relationship...show more content...
There was one more problem too, while I was friends with Mathias, I didn't have any other friends. So I made it my mission to find my new
Mathias. There was one kid named Cole Holtz, I told him about how I used to live in Chicago. He found my story very amusing we hung out more and
more. We are still friends to this very day, and I find it incredible how a small story could spark a greatfriendship. He eventually introduced me to his
friend named Caden Hrebik. Caden was a shy kid like I was at the time, so we got along very well. We called ourselvesthe three musketeers, and it was

Image nine resonates with me because it represents women "taking a seat at the table" in business and I believe more women need to be at the table.
The photograph showing a woman in the back row reminds me of a theme from Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In, where she urges women to take a
seat at the table versus sitting on the side of the room. After graduating from Smith College, where I was empowered by intellectually curious and
ambitious women, and then transitioning to banking, a male–dominated industry, I recognized early in my career how few women there were in
executive roles. As a career driven woman I became inspired to change the status quo and promote the career advancement of women. In my
professional career, I have taken several...show more content...
I learned that the bank sponsored employee led groups and I was passionate about creating a group to support women since one did not exist. I formed
and led a founding committee that was successful in fulfilling the necessary requirements for approval and funding. These responsibilities included
creating a charter and bylaws, demonstrating firm–wide interest, and proposing future programming to support our mission. After gaining approval and
funding from human resources, our founding committee secured Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to speak at the launch event. The launch for our group was
so popular that we had to a find a new venue to accommodate the 100+ employees who wanted to attend. Next, we obtained the bank's chief
technology officer as our executive sponsor, the only female executive. After the launch, I went on to lead programming, which included organizing
"Lean In" circles for women at varying levels, a roundtable chat with our president & CEO, and lunch & learns with our chief technology officer.
Within the first year the group grew to over 100 active

My dad always says, "bravery is being afraid and doing it anyway." Until the age of 15, I had never stepped into a school, until one day, I gathered
my courage and began my academic journey. I was homeschooled for most of my young life. While I studied the standard subjects, I was able to
learn in an environment completely free and focused on me. It was an amazing and unique way to grow up, but it was also a bubble. I was unaware
of much of the world around me, and as someone who was, at the time, quite shy, never really explored. I spent the first semester of highschool in an

take the most advanced classes available. This proved to be a stressful decision but it was also a risk that paid off. Deciding to pursue my academic
ambitions despite being in a new environment set me on a trajectory to continue to take academic risks and follow my dreams. It also pushed me to
develop skills and connections that now allow me to take some of the most difficult classes at my school as well as conduct scientific research at

My road into choosing medicine has been a turbulent route, but the bumps and hurdles along the way have created defining impressions on me. Over
the years, I have been pushed and pulled into and away from being a physician. I interest in medicine initially sparked my high school friend asked
me to take his job in doing his father's, a primary care physician, paperwork for the year. I was in need of some gas money, so I gladly accepted. After
signing towers of paper work regarding HIPAA, I began doing the simple task of scanning medical files and typing them into the electronic system.
I slowly began to grasp the various procedures and medications and drew lines between symptoms and diagnosis. Hours would pass by, before I

I was only three years old when my parents decided to move. I have a younger brother who was only five months old before the big move; my older

Example Of Personal Narrative Individualism
On a typical March evening in Naples, I was introduced to this world– not the one in Italy (I wish) but in Florida. Unfortunately, my residence there
was only temporary because I skipped around from place to place several times in Florida. In retrospect, however, I can credit my current "rugged
individualist" character to these times. The "rugged" part did not until later though, so I was a bashful little boy until then. Anyways, there were
several mornings while enjoying my Corn Flakes where I told my mother that I did not feel well so that I did not have to go to school. She did not
ever find anything wrong with me, so I would reluctantly pick up my oversized, black book bag and start my day. Consequently, this shyness is what
led to my isolationist character, which I did not truly break until the age of around 15. So, in Florida, I lived until the age of ten and I was a "special",
devoted introvert.
After Florida came Houma, Louisiana, home of the nothing extraordinary. I lived in Louisiana for a year before...show more content...

ostensibly–angry voice, but it made my mind click as I sat across from him in our poorly–lit kitchen. It was like as if an old, rusty engine in my mind
finally turned on after years of refusing to do so. I find it quite interesting how a few words can do so much to another person. From there on, I
decided that academic success would be my chief priority. As a result, my determination to become someone my parents would be proud of
heightened to unprecedented levels. I became as "fired up" as the Mad Hatter is after gallons of tea and ready to take on the

Example Of Personal Narrative Essay Examples

  • 1. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay Examples My father was raised in a predominantly Dominican neighborhood in Bronx, New York, home to the second largest number of Dominican people in the world after Santo Domingo. He grew up in tenement buildings in makeshift rooms divided by sheets and cardboard in the basement along with other immigrant families. He spoke only Spanish at home and at the public schools he went to. He joined the army at 17, like many other young men from his neighborhood, trying to escape the poverty, violence and limited opportunities. When he left New York, he left behind his culture. His goal was to be just an American. He set out to quickly assimilate into what he viewed as mainstream America. This included raising his children to be American first. As a result, I lacked a connection to my culture. I could not speak that well in Spanish. I did not know anything about Dominican food, culture or music. The American...show more content... Just as I did in high school I would seize opportunities to enrich the cultural knowledge of others at the school. In high school, I went beyond my own culture. I am catholic. But, I started the school's first Muslim student association when I saw that there was a lot of isolation of Islamic students at the school. The club created a place where we could share with other students about Islamic religion and culture. I also joined other students to create a multicultural night. It is now a popular annual event that celebrates the diversity of our school community. People from the community, families, staff and students are able to showcase art, performances and fashion from their culture. In college, I plan to continue contributing to my school community by creating opportunities to learn about other perspectives. Through this work and individual conversations I hope to enrich other's experience by being open to talking about our differences and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay I was born to a Colombian father and a Slovak mother, who both happened to be studying in Germany at the time. Shortly after I was born we moved to Brazil, making my first language Portuguese, while my father spoke to me in Spanish, my mother spoke to me in Slovak, and my parents to each other in German. Before I was two we moved to California. It was just my parents and I since everyone else we knew was spread all over the world. As I went to daycare in this different world where everyone looked odd and didn't understand a word I was saying, I felt completely isolated. To this day, I still remember the first time I was left out of my favorite game. I can still see that whirl of classmates dancing around me with their long blonde hair whipping while they called out repulsive nicknames. Feeling ashamed of myself I sulked away to a nearby bookshelf and buried myself behind a bean bag not understanding why they...show more content... As they danced in a rainbow of colorful skirts and chanted songs as they moved I cheered loudly until I realized everyone was staring. My clapping hands jolted to a stop. I could feel a deep red burning in my cheeks as my palms started to sweat. I buried my hands in my sweatshirt and did not make a sound until they scampered off the stage. That afternoon I went home with a pit of self–disgust bubbling in my chest. I made a plan to squeeze myself into a perfect mold to please those around me. My stinging loneliness was numbed as more people accepted me for "who I was". I played the part that I reinvented for myself until I got to my Sophomore year of high school. The person who broke me free of this was my mother. She introduced me to a leadership forum in San Francisco called Landmark. I stood there in front of over 100 students just like me, trying to break down the things holding them back from being an effective leader. (add more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Example Of A Personal Narrative Research Paper I came to the United States at a very tender age, 13 years old, without a family member so I was residing with my father's friend. After I graduated from high school in 2007, at the age of 17, my guardian decided to move back to Ghana so I was here all by myself. I wanted to go to college as that had always been my dream goal. I was therefore admitted to Medgar Evers College, where I am currently attending, in fall 2007. Unfortunately, life events caused setbacks in pursing my education and finishing on the right time. As a teenager in a foreign land all alone without a family and undocumented, life was unbearable. I was working so hard to solicit funds to pay for my rent and tuition; I was paying tuition out of pocket as I did not qualify Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Narrative Essay Sample My life experiences that set the seeds of my desire to work in the broad field of Social work were multifaceted to say the least. From the age of seven I was harshly and subsequently abruptly introduced into the Social services/ foster–care system in a poor small town in rural Louisiana. Bouncing from foster home to foster home for various reasons until a match was found. In hindsight this seems like a food bar version of an organ transplant. Making life more complicated, but nonetheless educational, an enlistment into the Armed services quickly ensued my eighteenth birthday. Desperately grasping for the deeper need for a family bond and acceptance. While serving in the Army, I was injured overseas. As a result of those injuries, I am a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Example Of A Personal Narrative Essay On Identity I have encountered many of my peers taking drugs, listened to songs about drugs and even seen drugs romanticized on social media. Like most teenagers, I lived in a world surrounded by drugs, but I had never had an experience with them. I came from a "picture–perfect" family and prior to my freshman year of high school, I was somewhat narcissistic, believing that I was too good to even be associated with drugs. It was August 2012, the summer before my freshman year of high school, and my life seemed as sound as ever. I was excited to begin the next step in my life and looked forward to starting school. As the weeks passed and I was returning to my normal academic routine, my parents began acting strangely uneasy. I knew there was something wrong. I questioned my parents' behavior and at first received few valuable answers in return....show more content... Through his struggle, I gained much–needed compassion and understanding. Prior to this transition, I was unsympathetic and insensitive to others and their struggles. I am now able to place myself in the position of others to understand their circumstances. I no longer judge others based solely on my initial thoughts. I used to fear the discovery of my brother's problem would distort others' perceptions of me, now; I am no longer restrained by what is regarded of me. Today, I am thankful for the circumstances I went through and proud of the person it shaped me to be. Through my brother's disease, I discovered a sense of independence in myself. I am now self–reliant and no longer seek help in situations that I am capable of controlling. My character has evolved tremendously and I have gained important qualities such as compassion and sympathy. My brother has now been sober for over two years and as I prepare to take the next step in my life and venture to college, I am grateful for the events I underwent as they aided my transition from childhood to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Narrative Essay Examples As a semi–privileged white teenager, a member of my school's student government, my school's representative in my county's Youth Leadership Program (YLP), and the winner of two Presidential Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), I may appear to have lived a charmed life. But, my life started with serious problems which I never could have overcome without my own diligence and my loved ones' unconditional support. As a baby, my speech and social skills developed unusually slowly. At fifteen months old, the state of Massachusetts flagged me as having "pervasive developmental delays, not otherwise specified" and recommended me for an early intervention program. My parents, worried I might never live a normal life, agreed to put me in it. When I was three,...show more content... Hence, from third grade on, I was considered "twice–exceptional" and went to a completely different elementary school for advanced academics, still on an IEP. Switching to a new school was not entirely positive, however. I had to leave most of my friends behind, and the competitive environment made me a clear target for bullies and induced chronic anxiety. I also gained weight, which elicited more harassment. This abysmal cycle climaxed towards the end of third grade in a public cacophony of emotion, after which my homeroom teacher recommended me a reputable therapist she knew. I will refer to him with the pseudonym, "Dr. J." My sessions with Dr. J thoroughly remedied my sorrow. Not only did he give great advice, we played board games to build my interpersonal skills. A parent often joined us as we talked, letting me vent to him/her as well. The results were tangible: I became calmer, my weight problems eased, and my social skills improved. With support from my mother, father, Dr. J, and teachers, I made it through advanced academics in elementary school with good grades, improving significantly in every area of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Example Of Personal Narrative As you will see from the enclosed resume, I have been consistently dedicated and demonstrates great leadership skills. Some of the nursing skills that I perform daily consist of iv insertion, blood administration, bladder irrigation, lab collection and professional documentation. My commitment to personal and professional excellence, ability to work under pressure and my excellent oral communication skills allows me to be a valuable asset in a patient–centered environment. • 8. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay In the summer of 2006, my life took its first unexpected turn: I was seventeen years old and diagnosed with endometriosis. After I exited what I thought would be an exploratory laparoscopy, doctors explained how they had to perform a left–oophorectomy secondary to a large endometrioma. I was devastated. However, what was most shocking to me was the fact that it was done without proper consent or any prior explanation of the surgery's possible outcomes. Eventually, I recuperated well and came to terms with the diagnosis, yet my life would dramatically change. Only 10 months later, during my second year of medical training in Venezuela, the situation in the country had become too unstable and my parents made the difficult decision to immigrate. I had not only to leave my home, family and close friends, but also restart medical training in the United States. My devotion for medicine and providing care to the underserved gave me the strength to continue my pursuit in becoming a doctor....show more content... I was ecstatic, however unsure as to what specialty I wished to pursue. It wasn't until I rotated through Obstetrics and Gynecology that I knew the answer. As I learned about the wonders of pregnancy and birth, my interest and enthusiasm grew strong. I had the privilege to deliver beautiful babies into this world, and felt thankful to care for and accompany their mothers during this process. I also scrubbed into multiple C–sections and major gynecological procedures that put my surgical skills into practice for the first time, allowing me to realize my desire to become a surgeon. In clinic, I enjoyed providing continuity of care and felt enamored with offering women of all ages treatment for on–going obstetric and/or gynecological conditions as well as effective preventive Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Examples Of Personal Narrative Personal Narrative It was the year of 2013, I was going into 4th grade and school was just a month away. But it wasn't the 4th grade that I was looking forward to, because my family was moving to a small town in Wisconsin named Mosinee. I grew up in a suburb just on the outskirts of the great city known as Chicago. I loved it there, and wanted to live there for the rest of my life; I guess my parents didn't exactly feel the same way. Little did I know that this move would shape my personality and change me in many different ways. And ultimately, to make me a better person as a whole. When I told my very few friends that I was moving, they always asked why. I really didn't have an answer and didn't think about it that much. The day eventually came, and we had all of our stuff was ready, my family was ready, but I wasn't. I couldn't imagine a life without my normal friends and my normal school, and didn't realize that this move would be one of the best things that has ever happened to me. After we gave our hardest goodbye, I started my journey to my new house. I tried to stay optimistic, but that was very hard because I new that I wasn't going to get another friend until school started, which was a month away. I also don't have a relationship...show more content... There was one more problem too, while I was friends with Mathias, I didn't have any other friends. So I made it my mission to find my new Mathias. There was one kid named Cole Holtz, I told him about how I used to live in Chicago. He found my story very amusing we hung out more and more. We are still friends to this very day, and I find it incredible how a small story could spark a greatfriendship. He eventually introduced me to his friend named Caden Hrebik. Caden was a shy kid like I was at the time, so we got along very well. We called ourselvesthe three musketeers, and it was the of something great, for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Narrative Essay Examples Image nine resonates with me because it represents women "taking a seat at the table" in business and I believe more women need to be at the table. The photograph showing a woman in the back row reminds me of a theme from Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In, where she urges women to take a seat at the table versus sitting on the side of the room. After graduating from Smith College, where I was empowered by intellectually curious and ambitious women, and then transitioning to banking, a male–dominated industry, I recognized early in my career how few women there were in executive roles. As a career driven woman I became inspired to change the status quo and promote the career advancement of women. In my professional career, I have taken several...show more content... I learned that the bank sponsored employee led groups and I was passionate about creating a group to support women since one did not exist. I formed and led a founding committee that was successful in fulfilling the necessary requirements for approval and funding. These responsibilities included creating a charter and bylaws, demonstrating firm–wide interest, and proposing future programming to support our mission. After gaining approval and funding from human resources, our founding committee secured Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to speak at the launch event. The launch for our group was so popular that we had to a find a new venue to accommodate the 100+ employees who wanted to attend. Next, we obtained the bank's chief technology officer as our executive sponsor, the only female executive. After the launch, I went on to lead programming, which included organizing "Lean In" circles for women at varying levels, a roundtable chat with our president & CEO, and lunch & learns with our chief technology officer. • 11. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay My dad always says, "bravery is being afraid and doing it anyway." Until the age of 15, I had never stepped into a school, until one day, I gathered my courage and began my academic journey. I was homeschooled for most of my young life. While I studied the standard subjects, I was able to learn in an environment completely free and focused on me. It was an amazing and unique way to grow up, but it was also a bubble. I was unaware of much of the world around me, and as someone who was, at the time, quite shy, never really explored. I spent the first semester of highschool in an online program, but I did not like it and decided to transfer. I knew nothing about public school, and starting a new school half way through the year was a huge risk. I knew it was going to be difficult and scary, but I also knew it would help me grow as a person....show more content... The environment was completely foreign, I had never even been around so many kids in one place, I had never been in a classroom, and I knew my life was about to change. The entire act of transferring schools was, in itself, a risk. Despite never setting foot in a school before, I decided to take the most advanced classes available. This proved to be a stressful decision but it was also a risk that paid off. Deciding to pursue my academic ambitions despite being in a new environment set me on a trajectory to continue to take academic risks and follow my dreams. It also pushed me to develop skills and connections that now allow me to take some of the most difficult classes at my school as well as conduct scientific research at Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Example Of A Personal Narrative My road into choosing medicine has been a turbulent route, but the bumps and hurdles along the way have created defining impressions on me. Over the years, I have been pushed and pulled into and away from being a physician. I interest in medicine initially sparked my high school friend asked me to take his job in doing his father's, a primary care physician, paperwork for the year. I was in need of some gas money, so I gladly accepted. After signing towers of paper work regarding HIPAA, I began doing the simple task of scanning medical files and typing them into the electronic system. I slowly began to grasp the various procedures and medications and drew lines between symptoms and diagnosis. Hours would pass by, before I realized how late Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Example Of Personal Narrative I was only three years old when my parents decided to move. I have a younger brother who was only five months old before the big move; my older sister was seven. We lived in a quiet residential area of Peru where it never snowed or got colder than 70В°. To my parents, America represented new dreams and endless possibilities for their children. My mom was especially keen on having us learn English. I don't recall much of my childhood in Peru, just flashes of faces here and there but I really grew up in America. This country became my home. (A couple years later we welcomed a small shih tzu who we now call Caramel.) I define my life in two ways; before I played the violin and after I decided I would make it my career. By the time I was 10 years old I had lived in five different states and attended three different schools, each with a regionally varied curriculum. Just as I began to forge friendships, my father would receive orders to deploy to a new station. My family existed in a continuous state of change; new house, new towns, new routines. I found it difficult to make friends, noting I would likely have to soon say goodbye. My body also felt the strain of the continuous relocation to different environments. Transitioning sometimes took a year or more before I was fully adjusted to my new home. My family always tried to make each new journey an adventure, but fully recognized and deep down understood the challenges in...show more content... My 4th grade teacher told me daily that I was unable to continue at the educational level I was accustomed to in California. She wanted me to stay in line with the academic pace of my peers. Many of the other children I met in Oregon had been friends since the beginning of their schooling experience. I was familiar with the difficulties I would meet trying to be welcomed into their existing groups, but as a child, I didn't fully understand this dynamic and thought my trouble fitting in was something inherently wrong with me. Separated for my differences and labeled as "other," I was often rejected and isolated. I searched for inclusion. My continuous transitions helped teach me that there was always something I could find in common with someone else. I used my curiosity to rise above feeling alone and began to seek out one thing each day that would bring me closer to someone. Sometimes it was easy as wearing the same shoes, or playing the same videogame. I embraced humor and found a way to laugh at myself, so that when others did, it didn't hurt as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. What Is An Example Of A Personal Narrative Name:Ayonna cameron Date:August.26,2015 Course Name:Oral and Written Composition Personal Narrative I always read about people going through things like this in books and movies but I never thought that I would be a victim in the twisted novel called my life. In 2013 I went on a field trip with some of my 6th grade classmates and teachers. We were on our way to West Virginia. I was kind of scared but at the same time I was happy because I was taking a break from doing school work. When we got there we walked up to the cabins and started unpacking. After that we all walked back down so we could go horseback riding me and my friend Arianna was scared because we ended up getting the horses in the gate. Me and her were scared because we thought there was something wrong to why they were not outside the gate like the other ones. After all that horseback riding we...show more content... • 18. Example Of Personal Narrative Individualism On a typical March evening in Naples, I was introduced to this world– not the one in Italy (I wish) but in Florida. Unfortunately, my residence there was only temporary because I skipped around from place to place several times in Florida. In retrospect, however, I can credit my current "rugged individualist" character to these times. The "rugged" part did not until later though, so I was a bashful little boy until then. Anyways, there were several mornings while enjoying my Corn Flakes where I told my mother that I did not feel well so that I did not have to go to school. She did not ever find anything wrong with me, so I would reluctantly pick up my oversized, black book bag and start my day. Consequently, this shyness is what led to my isolationist character, which I did not truly break until the age of around 15. So, in Florida, I lived until the age of ten and I was a "special", devoted introvert. After Florida came Houma, Louisiana, home of the nothing extraordinary. I lived in Louisiana for a year before...show more content... All my life, I found respectable success with grades. However, my dad never really mentioned anything about it. In ninth grade, I managed to pass the first two quarters with perfect grades and finally my father acknowledged it. He only said, "I'm proud of you, son," in his typical monotone, ostensibly–angry voice, but it made my mind click as I sat across from him in our poorly–lit kitchen. It was like as if an old, rusty engine in my mind finally turned on after years of refusing to do so. I find it quite interesting how a few words can do so much to another person. From there on, I decided that academic success would be my chief priority. As a result, my determination to become someone my parents would be proud of heightened to unprecedented levels. I became as "fired up" as the Mad Hatter is after gallons of tea and ready to take on the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
