1. Abstract
Carbon geological storage (CGS) as an element of the CCUS/CCS process is considered to be the most viable option for the storage
of the large CO2 quantities needed to reduce global warming and related climate change effectively. Storage of natural gas and
partially decarbonized gas (with addition H2) will play a vital role in the stability of energy supply in the EU. The innovative
concept of the AGaStor project is based on synergy between natural gas storage and CO2 storage process in a location near
captured CO2 emission sources (e.g. in NW Poland). The main objective of the project is to facilitate the implementation of
advanced Underground Gas Storage (UGS) using dynamic support of Carbon Dioxide Cushion (CDC) in saline aquifers. The
purpose of research was to investigate the main technologies of CO2 capture, separation and dehydration as well as methods of
its transport and methodology of selecting a suitable geological storage site. An installation of dehydration and compression of
carbon dioxide captured after the post –combustion was designed at a temperature of 35°C, a pressure of 1.51 bar and a mass flow
rate of 2.449 million tons / year assuming that the geological storage site is located 30 km from the capture place. For the
dehydration process, a multistage compression and cooling system was applied, combined with a triethylene glycol dehydration
unit. The diameter of the transport pipeline and the pressure drop were simulated. The amount of energy needed to power the
designed installation for 25%, 60% and 100% of its load was tested. The pressure and temperature distributions values for different
variants of the number of compression stages used in the compression and colling system were analyzed.
