Vílchezinspiredbythe constructionmodel implementedbythe RioTintoCompanymining
companyinPunta Umbría at the endof the 19th century. Thisbuildingfollowsthe
compositional scheme of houses13and 14 designedbythe EnglishmanClaytonin1917.
-In1873 a Britishinvestmentgroupboughtthe Riotintominesandcreatedthe “Riotinto
CompanyLimited”toputintooperationthe rich pyrite depositsinthe Huelvasubsoil,until it
became the mostimportantminingcompanyinthe world.
The work inthe mine,butespeciallythe methodusedtoobtainthe coppercontainedinthe
pyrite using“teleras”,involvedthe emissionof large amountsof sulfurdioxideintothe
atmosphere. The damage thatthese emissionshadforthe healthof the inhabitantsof the
minesmotivatedthe RTC,atthe beginningof the 1880s, to senditsBritishemployeestorest
and recovertothe groupof housesthatwas beingbuiltona well-knownbeachlikePunta
Umbría.
