During our January 2016 team meeting
the subject of illegal fire alarms came
up; specifically when a fatal fault* is
identified by an engineer and reported
to a client but not acted upon. This
is even after the fault has been
specifically highlighted on more than
one occasion.
The implications of not acting upon this
could be severe and even end up with a
custodial sentence.
*Leading to failure or disaster - some or all of your system does not work.
To help customers, we came up with the idea
of a ‘condemned’ style form for the engineer
to leave with the client to help protect from
serious consequences that could follow by
not keeping the system legally compliant.

Top Tips - Cut out & keep guide:
OBSOLETE EMS 5000 Fire Point...
National Entrepreneur
Awards 2015
FINALIST
FINALIST
Entrepreneur
of the Year
This leaves sites
that have an
EMS 5000 Fire
Point installed
with a dilemma,
WHAT TO DO?
What is an EMS 5000?
The EMS 5000 Fire Point is a commercial
radio fire alarm that has been on the
market for 15 years. It has had to be
withdrawn because it does not comply
with European CPR (Construction Products
Regulation), which came into force in
2013. This has therefore lead to the EMS
5000 Fire Point becoming OBSOLETE!
I have an EMS 5000! What do I do now?
If you currently have an EMS 5000 Fire
Point in use at your premises, don’t
worry, your system is still legal as the
standards are not retrospective unless
you are making changes to your site
and therefore system.
This means you cannot extend the
current system although when the
device goes faulty, it is still possible to
replace parts, although over time this
will become less viable.
It is highly recommended that you plan
your replacement of this system to avoid
having to upgrade at an unplanned time.
As the Quote above implies, it is absolutely
essential to make sure you plan thoroughly
when making the next decision on your
EMS 5000 System.
Whether you are thinking of just
replacing for a similar system, keeping
the old until it completely dies (this is
not recommended) or upgrading
to a better system, make sure a
comprehensive survey is carried out
at your premises.
MD, Paul’s Top Tip!
Extensive planning
coupled with in
depth surveying
could save you a
lot of time and
money.
