The BSI has introduced a new intruder
alarm cable standard, BS4737-3.30:2015,
which will come into force on the 1st
April 2016. The new standard will give
installers clear indication of the
quality of the cable they are using.
The question is why now and what was
used before?
The answer is simple; because there wasn't
a requirement on manufacturers to label
cables prior to now, so you couldn’t tell if
the wire was compliant or not. Also, cheap
cables have been found to cause false alarms
and cost clients money to replace. The
correct cable for use with intruder alarms
is one tested to meet BS4737-3.30:2015.
So you could say that ‘the stable door has
been closed’, but the positive way to look
at this is that because of proper engineering
and feedback to the Third Party Accreditation
companies, action has been taken. Or you
could do what we do most of the time and
install Wire-Free systems… (just saying).
