Saving money through investment in Security - WFN Sept 2016

Edition 21 ⢠September 2016
One of our customerâs recently gave
us feedback about their systems
which were installed less than a year
ago. The feedback was great and
one part that stood out about it was
the fact that they told us they have
actually saved more than the cost
of the security system installed...
They found that the decrease in loss of stock
since installing the security systems has exceeded
the value of the systems themselves, this has
happened in under a year too. This shows that
it is definitely worth it in the long run (or in this
case, not so long run). The fact behind the story
here is that by managing out the temptation,
our customer removed the opportunity for loss
of stock. This was achieved by simply installing
a well-designed good quality CCTV system.
If you would like to find out more about how
this could work the same for you, get in touch
and we would love to have a chat. Call us on

4. Top Tips - Cut out & keep guide:
Four Bitesize Tips!
1. Making the most of your CCTV system.
You may have a CCTV system in place or are
thinking of installing one, in which case:
a. Donât do anything more until you have a clear
purpose for the system (commonly referred to
as Operational Requirements).
b. Once you know what you want then set a
budget. In reality you always get what you pay
for and CCTV is a great example of this.
2. Acknowledging faults on fire alarms.
We know how easy it is to ignore faults, especially
when itâs the same fault that has been there for
ages. However, as harmless as this may seem, it is
not worth ignoring, hereâs why:
a. Most importantly, a fault is a fault! If one shows
on your system, then there is something wrong,
and you should get it checked out and fixed.
b. If the fault has been there for what seems like
forever, then this could cause further faults if not
fixed. This results in added costs for more repairs
and potentially serious implications for you.
c. If you are just clearing the fault every time it
pops up because you know itâs âno big dealâ,
normally it is a bigger deal than you realise! If
another fault pops up during that time, it can
quite easily be dismissed when assuming that it
is the same fault from before.
3. Whatâs wrong with your smoke detector?
If your smoke detector keeps false alarming, then
what should you do?
a. Find out whatâs setting it off and solve that problem
first i.e. a toaster thatâs burning toast â bin it.
b. Is it the right type for the environment? i.e.
Ionisation, Optical or Heat - again we strongly
advise you to consider changing the cause of
the false alarm before changing the detector.
(Read our blog on detector choice to
find out more: http://www.w-fp.co.uk/
what-detector-type-do-i-need/
c. It is much more likely to be a design issue than a
fault with the system, although itâs worth checking
the basics such as water ingress or physical
damage. (We are more than happy to help, we
might be able to advise you over the phone.)
4. Do you know how to use your fire
extinguisher? Or which one to use when?
The following explains what type of extinguisher
to use in which situation. But, if you did not
know, we seriously recommend that you book
fire extinguisher training ASAP, find out how by
calling us on 01277 724 779.
a. Use water extinguishers on fires fuelled by
paper, wood and fabrics.
b. Use carbon dioxide extinguishers on electrical
fires, flammable liquids and gasses.
c. Powder fire extinguishers are for general use.
d. Use foam fire extinguishers on flammable
liquids, paper, wood and fabrics.
With so much relevant knowledge that we want
you to know about, we felt this month we couldnât
focus on just the one topic. So your September WFN
