Start Date: 7/15/2013 Years with other Firms: 0 Revised Date: 6/12/15 - 1 -
Patrick is an engineer with experience in municipal, drainage and site design projects. He works as a
civil engineer, drafter, designer and construction inspector. He has worked on water and sewer
main projects, parking lot improvements and municipal wastewater treatment lagoons.
Design Engineer/Drafter/Construction Observation
Berthold Wastewater Lagoon Expansion – Berthold, ND
The City of Berthold had an undersized facultative wastewater lagoon treating the City’s
wastewater. KLJ was contracted to design and oversee construction of a new 8 acre primary cell.
During the design phase, Patrick was principally responsible for designing and drafting of the force
main, and gravity piping. During the three months of construction, Patrick was responsible for full
time construction observation observing installation of 850 lf of 10” gravity pipe, 500 lf of 12”
gravity pipe, and 1,800 lf of 6” force main pipe installation. Two structures were set on the project
including an 8 foot manhole with vales connecting the existing force main and proposed force main,
and a 14’ X 7’ concrete box flow control structure.
Design Engineer/Drafter
Beach Wastewater Lagoon Expansion – Beach, ND
The City of Beach outgrew their existing facultative lagoon system and contracted with KLJ to design
and construct a new 17 acre primary cell. Difficult site constraints required the design and
installation of a lift station between the primary and secondary cells. Patrick was heavily involved in
all aspects of the design including grading, structure design, piping, and lift station. During the
design phase Patrick reviewed the contractor’s submittals.
Construction Inspection
Highway 23 Reconstruction – McKenzie County, ND
Due to increased oil traffic impacts, the State of North Dakota needed to reconstruct and widen
Highway 23 between Johnson’s Corners and the Fort Berthold Reservation. In total 20 miles of road
was reconstructed for a construction cost of approximately $50 million. Patrick worked on the
project for six weeks and monitored milling and reclaiming of asphalt as well as centerline drainage
pipe, approach pipe, and riprap installation. Patrick evaluated plans and specifications to ensure the
Contractor was in compliance with the contract documents. Throughout this time Patrick worked
with a team of inspectors from KLJ and worked closely with the contractor and geotechnical sub-
contractor to ensure a quality project.
Design Engineer/Drafter
Kalispell Toyota Parking Lot Improvements – Kalispell, MT
Kalispell Toyota was required to pave an existing grass field they were using for parking. Patrick
worked on designing and drafting the proposed paved parking lot which was designed to the City of
Kalispell’s storm water standards.

Design Engineer/Drafter
Tesoro Logistics Wastewater Treatment Facility
The project consisted of the design and construction of a new Orenco packed-bed media filter
treatment system with total retention evaporative disposal of the treated wastewater. Patrick
worked on designing the evaporative disposal.
Design Engineer/Drafter
North Dakota Army National Guard Vehicle Maintenance Shop Wash Rack, Devils Lake, ND
KLJ was responsible for site work on an expansion to North Dakota Army National Guard base near
Devils Lake. Patrick worked on the design and drafting for a truck wash. The wash water was
designed to be recirculated through the system. Used water flowed into a sedimentation basin and
then through an oil water separator before finally reaching a fine screen before the high pressure
pumps. The facility was designed according to the Army National Guard Design Standards.
Design Engineer
Malteruop Malting Facility Wastewater Technical Memorandum Great Falls, MT
Malteurop operates a 200,000 t malting facility in Great Falls Montana that generates 1.4 Million
Gallons per day of high strength wastewater. Wastewater is pumped to the City of Great Falls
municipal wastewater treatment plant. The city of Great Falls charges Malteurop a high fee to treat
their wastewater every year and Malteurop received a heavy surcharge for their wastewater
because it was stronger than typical residential wastewater. KLJ was contracted to evaluate possible
treatment alternatives for the malt wastewater. A technical memorandum was created to present
available technologies and solutions to Malteurop for their review.
Design Engineer
Thunder Valley Regenerative Community PER – Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota
Housing shortages on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation prompted the formation of the Thunder
Valley Community Development Corporation focused on providing affordable housing for the
reservation. A 34 acre site was purchased and KLJ was contracted to evaluate what kind of site
infrastructure would be needed to develop the land for housing, businesses, and a community
center. Patrick specifically worked on evaluating the waste water treatment and disposal
alternatives. The project was broken into several phases for funding purposes. Due to strict
ammonia limits, surface water discharge was not a viable option for phase one which had an
average daily flow of 11,000 gallons. At full build out the design flow will be 99,000 gallons per day.
The recommended phase 1 treatment and disposal method was pressure dosed drain fields.

Design Engineer
City of Foxhome Wastewater PER – Foxhome Minnesota
The city of Foxhome is a small (120 person) community that has no community wastewater
treatment system. Citizens are on private wells and drainfields. The poor soils are not conducive to
onsite treatment and many of the drainfields have failed. KLJ was contracted to write a PER
evaluating how to solve the existing problem. Patrick worked on evaluating several different
alternatives for collection, treatment, and disposal. The PER gave the town direction on needed to
go and a document to aid in procuring the necessary funds to solve their wastewater problem.
Intern
Jackola Engineering and Architecture – Kalispell, MT
Patrick was a civil engineering intern and his activities included AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting, building
site design, sewer and water main design and rod man for total station surveying.
Intern
Arch Coal, INC. – Wright, WY
Patrick was an engineering intern at a surface coal mine. His activities included design of haul ramps,
surveying with Trimble GPS and calculating end of month shovel volumes.
