A brief overview of how Corroserve's specialist engineering skills coupled with corrosion protection coatings can significantly increase service life in aggressive service environments.
2. CORROSERVE : Energy from Waste Sector
• The market leader in corrosion engineering
• Combing engineering expertise and application
technology
• Long-term protection of all types of equipment and
structures
• A wide range of corrosion protection and engineering
services both on- and off-site
• Services many differing industrial sectors – expertise
in the energy from waste sector
• Safety conscious ‘can do’ professional teams
• Six step service process
3. Combined Heat and Power: Ducts and Stacks
• MVV Devonport EfW combined heat/power facility
• Annually 245k tonnes of household, commercial
and industrial waste
• Ducts and stacks suffering corrosion due to
gaseous emissions at temperatures; 160oC inlet
and 120oC outlet.
• Lined with Corrothane XT a coating designed for
non-immersed environments at elevated
temperatures
• Corroserve provided on site coatings teams
trained and certified to work to work in arduous
process conditions such as confined spaces etc.
• Shift work on site to reduce downtime
• Full surface preparation, coating application and
inspection after competition.
• Mobilisation included all plant, equipment and
materials to complete the works
4. Biomass Facility: Gas Ducts
• MVV Biomass power plant Ridham Dock
• Old and waste wood provides fuel to generate
electricity and heat
• Gas ducting lined with Corrothane XT a corrosion
protection coating in non-immersed environments at
elevated temperatures
• Corroserve provided fully trained and certified on
site coatings teams
• Full surface preparation, coating application and
inspection after competition
• Provision of skip and removal of all blasting waste.
• Mobilise two site supervisors and 4 technicians on a
shift system
• Including all plant, equipment and materials to
complete the works
5. Waste Incineration Plant: Bag Filter Hopper
• South East London Combined Heat and Power
• Designed to generate both heat and electricity
• Bag filter hopper was found to be suffering from
corrosion issues
• Highly corrosive flue gases and acid condensate
at temperatures up to 2000C
• The hopper had previously been repaired in places
using welded plates
• Two teams working shifts abrasive blasted all
internal surfaces
• First coat of CXT was applied
• After curing multiaxial glass fabric wetted out with
CXT resin was applied to all interfaces to add
structural strength to the final coating
• A second coat of CXT was then applied
• After suitable curing, thickness and spark testing
was carried out and final visual inspection
6. Bio-methane Plant: Mild Steel Chimney
• 1.2m diameter mild steel chimney required
internal lining along 3x10m long sections
• Newly fabricated to be installed at a bio-methane
plant in North East of England.
• Plant uses the sludge remaining after sewage
treatment to produce renewable electricity
• Captures the bio-methane released by bacteria
digesting the sludge and converts it to electricity
• Protection from a number of corrosive gases
• 3.45 mg/m3 Hydrogen sulphide (H2S)
• 0.055 mg/m3 Dimethyl sulphide (DMS)
• 0.025 mg/m3 Pentanethiol (Ptol)
• 0.03 mg/m3 Diethyl disulphide (DEDS)
• Polyglass VEF using an Agmec internal pipe
sprayer along the full internal length.
• Polyglass VEF provides resistance to chemical
attack in immersed and non-immersed conditions
across the full pH range.
7. Anaerobic Digester: Pipespools
• Pipespools in an anaerobic digester feed system
suffering severe abrasion
• Damage to all the internal surfaces with through
wall holes at flange necks
• After abrasive blasting holed sections were
repaired with wetted out glass fibre
• Internals coated with Corroglass 600 followed
by a top coat of Armagel
• Armagel provides abrasion resistance and
resistance to chemical attack
• Externals were coated with Plasmet ZF with a
cosmetic top coat of Corrothane AP1.
• Pipespools reintroduced into service with an
extended life cycle due to the enhanced abrasion
protection provided by Armagel
8. Half a Century Of Corrosion Experience
• Established 1974, nearly half a century of experience
working across industries
