Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat, Superintendent of Peoria Public Schools, gave the annual State of the Schools address. She recognized guests in attendance including school and district leaders, state representatives, and community partners. Dr. Desmoulin-Kherat discussed key initiatives to address challenges such as poverty and mental health. These include collective impact through a new Alignment Peoria partnership between the school district and community organizations, expanding early childhood programs, and increasing high school rigor and college credit opportunities for students. She called on community members to support these efforts to improve outcomes for students.

Mahliyah skipped her first semester at
Truman State University, and will graduate
in 3.5 years instead of 4. Her family states
the one semester equates to thousands of

Truman State accepted from Richwoods.
Mahliyah will graduate in December 2016
and will then be working towards her
master's and then doctorate in biology.
