Reflection Paper On Powerpoint
Learning about PowerPoint has been very stimulating for me; unit five has taught me a lot. I love to use Microsoft PowerPoint, but until this unit, I
did not fully understand how to use all of the functions in Microsoft PowerPoint. I love the whole unit, so singling out three things will be hard for
me. I work as a Manager, and I am often preparing presentations. The three items in Microsoft PowerPoint that I know I will apply to my everyday life
are, Notes, Numbered list, and Charts. I think through the whole unit these features were the ones that made me say, ok I will use that for my
upcoming presentation. Below I will explain why I chose each one of these functions. First, I chose the Notes Function. The note section was a big
deal for me. I usually write my notes down in a notebook before my presentations. The problem I ran into was, I would always get lost. I tried
putting little symbols at the bottom of the page for talking points. The problem here was, I could never remember what the talking point was about
once I got to the symbol. When I tried Microsoft PowerPoint Notes, I found I was no longer fumbling between papers (Carlson, 2010). I loved it
because I just stood and clicked no more papers. The Notes function allows you to put information on the slides that you want to share that the
audience cannot see (Wiley & Sons Inc, 2014). Notes are now my new Favorite function of the week. Second, The Charts function is essential and
vitally important to my

Point of View Essay example
Point of view is something that many people argue as relativistic and subjective. To explain; it is the external circumstances and events that give
reality shape or form which is dependent upon a single person. How does this relate to seeing? As I have mentioned before in a earlier paper we are
all victims of our own biases and filters created through our outside means. As it becomes internalized and reflected back out towards the world which
creates the binocular view as we have discussed in class lectures. The real question at this point becomes how these extensions of reality become a
collective view–point? As an example at what point do we decide what blue is, what it is associations? I could be very off but, there always seems to be

Through this means it's not reality that is relative for the person but, more so for the collective group...and anyone who deviates from that is
considered an outsider...or do they have a less abstracted view of reality because, they can see the greater picture of reality? This also does not
answer the question of individualism or identity...where and how then do those come into play?Okay let's say the individual is a curial part of a
collective. As there are common goals of the group no two people may approach it exactly the same way. So when reality for the collective is
defined it can branch out in several directions. I had mentioned blue earlier as an example because of its many implications. Blue can mean; sad, cold,
water, calm, etc. But all the descriptors can find a way back to the indispensable form. Thus, this can suggest that all things are inter–related to one
necessary core. It's similar to the aspect of language especially if you look at nouns we have to further define them with actions, appearance, the what,
the how, and the why. This is also how paintings are defined with this specific word sets and combinations. Paintings are a creation of reality no a
reproduction of realty based on human want to wrap and distort it. Photography is different it still is a reproduction but, it is also a mechanical
representation of what we see....film took that one step further with as the professor called it the

The Tipping Point
In The book The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell the narrator takes us back to when he did a test on people. The test was, how many names of
people they are friends with. This information the reader gathered from this section, will help them infer that the author will use what he has learned
somewhere else in the book. You can also infer that this information will help you understand what the author is saying.Like when he explaned " On
the test to see how many people know each other the scorer where 9–108 this means..." Later in that section he explained how the people did so well,
and how people with higher incomes get more friends. When the author told us about the test it help me understand this chapter more fully.

Microsoft Powerpoint
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint, usually just called PowerPoint, is a non–free commercial presentation program developed by Microsoft. It is part of the
Microsoft Office suite, and runs on Microsoft Windows and Apple's Mac OS X operating system. The current versions are Microsoft Office
PowerPoint 2010 for Windows and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2011 for Mac.
History
Originally designed for the Macintosh computers, the initial release was called "Presenter", developed by Dennis Austin[not in citation given] and
Thomas Rudkin[not in citation given] of Forethought, Inc.[1] In 1987, it was renamed to "PowerPoint" due to problems with trademarks, the idea for
the name coming from Robert Gaskins.[2] In August of the same year,...show more content...
There are no compelling results to prove or disprove that PowerPoint is more effective for learner retention than traditional presentation methods.[9]
The effect on audiences of poor PowerPoint presentations has been described as PowerPoint hell.
[edit]Criticism
Although PowerPoint has the aforementioned benefits, some argue that PowerPoint has negatively impacted society. The terms "Death by PowerPoint"
and "PowerPoint Hell" refer to the poor use of the software. Many large companies and branches of the government use PowerPoint as a way to brief
employees on important issues that they must make decisions about. Opponents of PowerPoint argue that reducing complex issues to bulleted points is
detrimental to the decision making process; in other words, because the amount of information in a presentation must be condensed, viewing a
PowerPoint presentation does not give one enough detailed information to make a truly informed decision.
A frequently cited example is Edward Tufte's analysis of PowerPoint slides prepared for briefing NASA officials concerning possible damage to the
Space Shuttle Columbia during its final launch.[10] Tufte argues that the slides, prepared by the Boeing Corporation, had the effect of oversimplifying
the situation, and provided false assurance that the ultimately fatal damage to the shuttle was only minimal. Tufte argued:

5 Paragraph Essay Outline
Throughout all of high school, students are taught to write papers following the outline of a five–paragraph essay. The five–paragraph essay is a format
of essay having five paragraphs: one introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs with support and development, and one concluding paragraph.
This basic structure has proven to be effective for many students however the format itself has been accused of being "rigid and arbitrary" as well as
being accused of valuing mechanical organizational schemes rather than in depth thinking. (1) Is the five–paragraph essay as flawed as some people
make it out to be? A five paragraph essay breaks down like this: The first paragraph contains a one sentence (or maybe a two sentence) thesis statement,

Malcolm Gladwell The Tipping Point Analysis
What do you consider a tipping point? Written by Malcolm Gladwell, The Tipping Point is a novel that was published in the year 2000 compiling
a bunch of studies and research into the sociological changes that occur in everyday life. Gladwell does this by breaking up the novel into
sections. In each of theses sections there are miniature chapters that cover studies, examples and opinion. Gladwell writes the story almost in the
format of a high school essay. Gladwell starts off with a thesis and then covers each point in their own section. Although the novel was written by a
journalist, Gladwell obviously has a point which he believes is important. The title of the novel is deceiving. From just the title you might think
the story is about the point where a human has reached the level of transitioning into anarchy. The story actually covers the three rules of
epidemics. Gladwell goes into detail explaining from his research his three reasons for why social epidemics spread. The Law of the Few, The
Stickiness Factor and the Power of Context are the three main sections of the book that Gladwell uses to describe the spread of epidemics. The
Law of the Few says that in order for a social epidemic to spread it takes a certain type of people with a rare social "gift". They are able to
accumulate knowledge about the marketplace and share it with others. They are also persuasive. They are able to trick the brains of most into their
benefit. They have a good understanding of social psychology, how the brain's of the public population work. According to Gladwell this is very
important because in order to spread an epidemic you have to understand how different strategies affect different people. Another way an epidemic
spreads according to Gladwell is the Stickiness Factor. The stickiness factor is the way the impact of the epidemic is retained by the environment
where it spreads. Gladwell explains this as an infection. In order to spread an epidemic, you need to "infect" the community that is targeted. Gladwell
uses Sesame Street as an example of the stickiness factor. The point of Sesame Street is to introduce literacy to youth in order to give them a sort of
boost when they enter the education system. Sesame Street

Vanishing Point Paper
Vanishing point was the main focus for this paper, the VP is where the orthogonal lines all meet. Knowing how to find the VP made me want to
choose what I believed to be challenging pictures out of what was given to us. This being said, I chose Gas, Edward Hopper 1940, Corridor in the
Asylum, Vincent Van Gogh 1889, and L`Europe
–Geneva Bridge, Gustave Caillebotte 1876. In these three paintings I not only saw a challenge, but
also a neat story that can be conveyed in finding the VP. Gas, Edward Hopper 1940, is a picture of a man working the gas pump during the day
while no one else is around. The first orthogonal line I chose for this picture was against the grass line following along the gas pumps. I took the line
and pulled it along the...show more content...
A man and woman are walking over the bridge while a dog is walking toward them, and another man is gazing out in the water. In this painting I have
three orthogonal lines starting with the first one on the top corner of the building on the left side. This line then follows across the roofline, down
through the man walking's neck, through the woman's skirt. This line then finishes on the cement and ending on the shadow of the dog. Orthogonal
line two starts at the end of the bridge railing on the bottom right side. The line then continues down the railing, crossing through the old man in green
and through the woman and man walking near each other. This line will end on the building in the left corner and right above the buggy by finishing
on the building. The third and final line starts along the sidewalk on the bottom left side, leading up the sidewalk and going through the man's coat,
head and hat, while ending on building in the middle of the painting. The vanishing point leads us to the man that's walking's head while he is looking
away at the water. This vanishing point pulls the focus of the painting on the man and also the women next to him on the bridge. These three pictures
all have very different stories in them, which creates for different vanishing points. In some paintings or drawings it can be hard to find a vanishing
point due to the different time eras of the artists. Overall, the vanishing points allowed me to zone in on the meanings behind each painting and
allowed me to come up with a story as to what's going on in the

Lab Report On Boiling Points
Laura Breuning Lab Report 4
Abstract This experiment evaluated and reviewed the concepts used to identify unknown molecules. The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a
melting point trial and an infrared spectrometry trial. All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown molecules.
Introduction
In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three
key factors the first being intermolecular forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what functional
group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. "The
two other factors that affect boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain" (3 Trends that affect boiling
points). "Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies, which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance
numbers can then be directly tied to certain functional groups" (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated during this lab.
Methods
Part 1: Melting point
First collect a melting point apparatus, a capillary test tube. Collect a small amount of the #666 unknown in the capillary test tube approximately
enough to cover 2 cm of the capillary test tube. Then place the capillary test

Analysis Of The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
In the nonfiction novel The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell takes his readers on a journey through an array of social epidemics to observe what
causes them to spread globally, or what he calls their tipping points. His style, along with an unambiguous tone and diction, captivates the interest of his
intended young adults audience. He argues that tipping points have three different causes: the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, and thePower of
Context. Gladwell successfully connects with his reader and presents much evidence to defend his viewpoint before turning it over to the reader
for he or she to try to cause an epidemic on his or her own. With situations so massive as social epidemics, the complexity of the topics he proposes
could be very arduous to understand, but, through his style, tone, and diction, Gladwell makes his points clear. His style involves a myriad of
examples that the reader can connect with. For example, Gladwell uses the hit children's show Sesame Street which many of his readers should
know well. On top of his simplistic style, his light tone keeps complex ideas even more simplified, and he is able to get his points across in a way
that the audience will accept them. As he explains the difficult goal for Sesame Street to be an educational show, Gladwell writes, "But a television is
just a talking...show more content...

philosophy to benefit their lives as well as the world as a whole. He plans that, with his guidance, any ordinary person can make exponential changes in

However, the reasons for why Wilson introduced his points were rather different from how it was accepted by people who heard it. One of the main

Strong And Weak Points Essay
Strong points and weak points
In life, we normally have our strong points and our weak points. Just as in life, in writing, it's what we do with those negatives and positives that
makes the difference. My negatives in writing are the techniques I've not yet mastered and my positives are me not giving up. While writing this essay I
encountered a lot of different ideas, thoughts and emotions. However, Mainly I was blank, it took me forever to even begin this essay. I believe I
allowed the play on words to throw me. For example, the instructions for this assignment is to write an essay to your instructor reflecting on your
writing process and final draft of profile essay. I froze at "to your instructor". As I previously mentioned in my last reflective essay, getting a paper
started has always been a big challenge for me. I again most often doubt myself and my writing abilities. I am surprised that I have made it this far in
this course.
This course, ENG 101 and you, Mr. Perkins I credit for my improvements. I say improvements because I am by far a finished product. I'd like to think
that I'm a well–organized individual, however, when it comes to writing that's a different story. Figuring out how to write what I am thinking is a
weakness. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. I have real trouble with putting paragraphs and sentences in the right order. I guess
that 's my fault because I write as thoughts come! The first paragraph is always hardest for me,

Journalist and speaker, Malcolm Gladwell, has worked as a staff writer at The New Yorker for twenty years now. In addition to being a staff
writer, Gladwell is also the author of five books which focus primarily on sociology and psychology. In February of 2000, Gladwell released his
debut (and most successful) book, The Tipping Point, and it gained national popularity as well as earned its spot on The New York Times Best Seller
list. The Tipping Point seeks to explain how a trend and/or an idea, no matter how old or new, reaches a point where it "tips" and then begins to spread
rapidly. Throughout the book, Gladwell examines several social epidemics in the world including the unanticipated revival of the Hush Puppies shoes,
teen smoking in...show more content...
The Power of Context serves as a great explanation for this. As stated by Gladwell, "Epidemics are sensitive to the conditions and circumstances of
the times and places in which they occur" (Gladwell 139). Monica released "So Gone" in the early spring of 2003 while the #SoGoneChallenge
gained popularity in the summer of 2016. Shortly after the release of "So Gone", several events including a tornado outbreak sequence, the Riyadh
compound bombings, and the killing of 33 civilians in Morocco due to a terrorist attack took place. These serious occurrences in the outside world
overshadowed the success of the song. Although major outside events still exist in 2016 such as the Olympics and the buildup of the up–and–coming
presidential election, this generation of teens and young adults seem to occasionally attempt to shed light on a numerous amount of situations. For
example, some of the participants of the #SoGoneChallenge have actually addressed those events in their versions of the challenge in joking ways.
Also, the presence of social media today increases the circulation of them. Likewise, social media serves as a platform for the aspiring rappers who
partake in the challenge. Monica, who currently has 4.4 million followers on Instagram, has reposted her favorite videos which may persuade people

Essay on The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell looks at a number of social epidemics and analyzes their build up to the point where they tip. "Tipping" is
that point where an epidemic booms, or grows, to its maximum potential. Gladwell begins defining "tipping" with a literal example of the famous
shoes, Hush Puppies. Once considered old–fashioned, Hush Puppies experienced a social boom in the mid–90s when hipsters in New York made them
trendy again. Gladwell continues explaining "tipping" with a medical epidemic of syphilis in Baltimore. Gladwell introduces us to three essential
rules of epidemics: the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor and the Power of Context. The Law of the Few says a key factor in epidemics is the role
of the messenger: it...show more content...
If the environment is not right, the trend will probably not tip as if the environment was right. Much like the environment, groups of people of
different sizes and types must embrace the epidemic, as well, in order for tipping to occur. The idea of "tipping" is important in every industry and
aspect of life because it'll make whatever we're selling or doing, successful.
According to The Tipping Point almost everything in life "tips" at some point. The idea of a "tipping point" can be related to most economic trends
as at some time, each trend reaches a point where it booms. For example, unemployment reached a tipping point in March of 2009 and then peaked
in October of 2009. These high rates were factors in causing and sustaining the Great Recession which impacted the economy significantly.
Essentially, the same would work for job growth rates as well, growing until a certain tipping point and then booming. Many people currently believe
that the tipping point for the fiscal cliff is raising taxes on the rich. Many economists believe that unemployment can be solved with inflation in the
short term. They think that if you increase inflation, unemployment will decrease. The reasoning behind this is that if you increase the amount of
money in the economy, more people will spend so there will be more demand for goods and services. With more demand for goods and services, firms
will hire more people to increase their

Personal Narrative: Pin-Point In College
Where should I even begin? I wish I could pin–point exactly when the chaos began. Unfortunately, I cannot. I am a first generation college student. I

abused my mother, my sister, and then eventually me. It was a mix of physical and emotional abuse. An abuse only children are able to bear due to the
love they have for their parents.

The Tipping Point: a Summary
"The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference" by: Malcolm Gladwell
A Summary:
The Tipping Point presents us mainly with three rules or characteristics of "the tipping point" or an epidemic, and these are:
1.The Law of the Few
2.The Stickiness Factor
3.The Power of Context
The Law of the Few
There are three kinds of "the few", namely: Connectors, Mavens and the Salesmen.
The Connectors are the kinds of people who know lots of people, and are able to get a message across and to many in a matter of a short period of time,
depending on the context. This is explicitly explained in Gladwell's example of the six degrees of separation in his book. The Connectors are the
kinds of people who have their foot...show more content...
Both of these theories are based on the premise that an epidemic can be reversed, can be tipped, by tinkering with the smallest details of the immediate
environment. He gives the example of the crime rate in the New York subway station going down because the authorities had worked harder in catching
hooligans who pick–pocket and other officials and employees at the subway station make efforts to always clean up and scrub away any graffiti marks
in the subway cars and walls. They did not have to come up with any drastic solutions, they just had to tinker with the environment, and eventually, the
hooligans had stopped with their vandalism, and crime rates had gone down a significant number.
"You don't have to solve big problems to solve crime... our inner states are the result of outer circumstances."
The Rule of 150 The Rule of 150 is a strange and unexpected way by which context affects the course of social epidemics. Gladwell gave an example
of how a multi–national company had gained success by keeping employees at a number of 150. If manpower had gone over, then it was time to
expand by splitting them and creating another 150 out of those two groups, and creating a new complex and more parking spaces to accommodate new
employees that would make the workforce more effective. They did not have ranks or managerial systems their company. They all worked in the same
conditions, same titles and same offices. This supports the premise that small,

Tipping Point
Every society has a tipping point, also referred to as their peak. It makes you wonder, have we reached our peak? As a society have we found the
tipping point, and will we proceed to go past that point? There are numerous scholarly journals that support each side of the debate. Some say he
have, others would disagree. The research has led me to believe that perhaps, yes, we have reached our limit. Even further, we might continue past our
tipping point and begin our decline in stability and world health. With massive price increases in farming our major crops, population growth
skyrocketing, and most systems being over used or overloaded we are beginning to find the outlines of the peak of our existence. Information will be
presented to support...show more content...
The topic everyone hates to talk about! The issue? Increases in the production of carbon dioxide due to increases in both population growth and motor
transportation, tied in with deforestation, are the main causes of rising global temperature. The efficacy? In the last 50 years the global temperature
has increased roughly one and a half degrees. That does not seem like a large increase, however, when talking about the global temperature even a
dramatic change of a couple of degrees can have massive effects on climate and wildlife. If you look back even further on a global temperature map
you can see that in the last 150 years, during global industrialization, global temperature has increased dramatically. The increases in temperature also
has analogous effect on water levels, as the global temperature increases, so do our water levels. "Our scenario evaluations show that expected
changes in temperature, precipitation, and sea level could significantly alter important ecological functions. All of our wildlife indicators were
negatively affected by scenarios with less rainfall and more evapotranspiration." (Catano, 2015.) Christopher Catano is a researcher that is studying
the effects of global temperature change on Florida's estuaries and wildlife. Catano says, "Using projections of climate scenarios for the year 2060, we
evaluated how several possible futures could affect wildlife populations (wading birds, fish, alligators, native apple snails, amphibians, threatened and
invasive species) across the Everglades landscape and inform planning is already underway." (Catano,

play with the clock winding down the possibility of a tie. this would be a game changer if it was possible today. Deeper three point shots, i think this
is a reason for the four point line because most nba shooters like stephen curry in the 2015–2016 nba season he shot 46.7 percent from 30+ foot shots.
Another point is the option to shoot from deeper instead doing it if you want to. And with the deeper three pointers players will be harder to

The Tipping Point What can one consider being a tipping point in a situation. Is it when a situation changes from bad to worse? Could it be when it
changes from good to better? Or could it be from when it changes from a bad situation and all of a sudden it turns around and becomes good? In my
essay we are going to explore the tipping point from four different authors: Malcolm Gladwell, Mary G. King, Lynne M. Anderson, and Christine M.
Pearson. From subject of: hush puppies, teen suicide, crime, smoking, incivility in the workplace and the black women's breakthrough into clerical

crime. Some statistics from New York Law Enforcement Agency Uniform Crime Reports 1960–2009 (www.diastercenter.com): Murders: 1970– 1,444,

their police strategies dramatically improved, criminologists will tell you that the crack trade and aging of the population is what made that change.

Reflection on PowerPoint Notes, Charts and Lists Functions

  • 1. Reflection Paper On Powerpoint Learning about PowerPoint has been very stimulating for me; unit five has taught me a lot. I love to use Microsoft PowerPoint, but until this unit, I did not fully understand how to use all of the functions in Microsoft PowerPoint. I love the whole unit, so singling out three things will be hard for me. I work as a Manager, and I am often preparing presentations. The three items in Microsoft PowerPoint that I know I will apply to my everyday life are, Notes, Numbered list, and Charts. I think through the whole unit these features were the ones that made me say, ok I will use that for my upcoming presentation. Below I will explain why I chose each one of these functions. First, I chose the Notes Function. The note section was a big deal for me. I usually write my notes down in a notebook before my presentations. The problem I ran into was, I would always get lost. I tried putting little symbols at the bottom of the page for talking points. The problem here was, I could never remember what the talking point was about once I got to the symbol. When I tried Microsoft PowerPoint Notes, I found I was no longer fumbling between papers (Carlson, 2010). I loved it because I just stood and clicked no more papers. The Notes function allows you to put information on the slides that you want to share that the audience cannot see (Wiley & Sons Inc, 2014). Notes are now my new Favorite function of the week. Second, The Charts function is essential and vitally important to my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Point of View Essay example Point of view is something that many people argue as relativistic and subjective. To explain; it is the external circumstances and events that give reality shape or form which is dependent upon a single person. How does this relate to seeing? As I have mentioned before in a earlier paper we are all victims of our own biases and filters created through our outside means. As it becomes internalized and reflected back out towards the world which creates the binocular view as we have discussed in class lectures. The real question at this point becomes how these extensions of reality become a collective view–point? As an example at what point do we decide what blue is, what it is associations? I could be very off but, there always seems to be ...show more content... Through this means it's not reality that is relative for the person but, more so for the collective group...and anyone who deviates from that is considered an outsider...or do they have a less abstracted view of reality because, they can see the greater picture of reality? This also does not answer the question of individualism or identity...where and how then do those come into play?Okay let's say the individual is a curial part of a collective. As there are common goals of the group no two people may approach it exactly the same way. So when reality for the collective is defined it can branch out in several directions. I had mentioned blue earlier as an example because of its many implications. Blue can mean; sad, cold, water, calm, etc. But all the descriptors can find a way back to the indispensable form. Thus, this can suggest that all things are inter–related to one necessary core. It's similar to the aspect of language especially if you look at nouns we have to further define them with actions, appearance, the what, the how, and the why. This is also how paintings are defined with this specific word sets and combinations. Paintings are a creation of reality no a reproduction of realty based on human want to wrap and distort it. Photography is different it still is a reproduction but, it is also a mechanical representation of what we see....film took that one step further with as the professor called it the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The Tipping Point In The book The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell the narrator takes us back to when he did a test on people. The test was, how many names of people they are friends with. This information the reader gathered from this section, will help them infer that the author will use what he has learned somewhere else in the book. You can also infer that this information will help you understand what the author is saying.Like when he explaned " On the test to see how many people know each other the scorer where 9–108 this means..." Later in that section he explained how the people did so well, and how people with higher incomes get more friends. When the author told us about the test it help me understand this chapter more fully. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Microsoft Powerpoint Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft PowerPoint, usually just called PowerPoint, is a non–free commercial presentation program developed by Microsoft. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite, and runs on Microsoft Windows and Apple's Mac OS X operating system. The current versions are Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010 for Windows and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2011 for Mac. History Originally designed for the Macintosh computers, the initial release was called "Presenter", developed by Dennis Austin[not in citation given] and Thomas Rudkin[not in citation given] of Forethought, Inc.[1] In 1987, it was renamed to "PowerPoint" due to problems with trademarks, the idea for the name coming from Robert Gaskins.[2] In August of the same year,...show more content... There are no compelling results to prove or disprove that PowerPoint is more effective for learner retention than traditional presentation methods.[9] The effect on audiences of poor PowerPoint presentations has been described as PowerPoint hell. [edit]Criticism Although PowerPoint has the aforementioned benefits, some argue that PowerPoint has negatively impacted society. The terms "Death by PowerPoint" and "PowerPoint Hell" refer to the poor use of the software. Many large companies and branches of the government use PowerPoint as a way to brief employees on important issues that they must make decisions about. Opponents of PowerPoint argue that reducing complex issues to bulleted points is detrimental to the decision making process; in other words, because the amount of information in a presentation must be condensed, viewing a PowerPoint presentation does not give one enough detailed information to make a truly informed decision. A frequently cited example is Edward Tufte's analysis of PowerPoint slides prepared for briefing NASA officials concerning possible damage to the Space Shuttle Columbia during its final launch.[10] Tufte argues that the slides, prepared by the Boeing Corporation, had the effect of oversimplifying the situation, and provided false assurance that the ultimately fatal damage to the shuttle was only minimal. Tufte argued: The most critical Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The five–paragraph essay is a format of essay having five paragraphs: one introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs with support and development, and one concluding paragraph. This basic structure has proven to be effective for many students however the format itself has been accused of being "rigid and arbitrary" as well as being accused of valuing mechanical organizational schemes rather than in depth thinking. • 6. Malcolm Gladwell The Tipping Point Analysis What do you consider a tipping point? Written by Malcolm Gladwell, The Tipping Point is a novel that was published in the year 2000 compiling a bunch of studies and research into the sociological changes that occur in everyday life. Gladwell does this by breaking up the novel into sections. In each of theses sections there are miniature chapters that cover studies, examples and opinion. Gladwell writes the story almost in the format of a high school essay. Gladwell starts off with a thesis and then covers each point in their own section. Although the novel was written by a journalist, Gladwell obviously has a point which he believes is important. The title of the novel is deceiving. From just the title you might think the story is about the point where a human has reached the level of transitioning into anarchy. The story actually covers the three rules of epidemics. Gladwell goes into detail explaining from his research his three reasons for why social epidemics spread. The Law of the Few, The Stickiness Factor and the Power of Context are the three main sections of the book that Gladwell uses to describe the spread of epidemics. The Law of the Few says that in order for a social epidemic to spread it takes a certain type of people with a rare social "gift". They are able to accumulate knowledge about the marketplace and share it with others. They are also persuasive. They are able to trick the brains of most into their benefit. They have a good understanding of social psychology, how the brain's of the public population work. According to Gladwell this is very important because in order to spread an epidemic you have to understand how different strategies affect different people. Another way an epidemic spreads according to Gladwell is the Stickiness Factor. The stickiness factor is the way the impact of the epidemic is retained by the environment where it spreads. Gladwell explains this as an infection. In order to spread an epidemic, you need to "infect" the community that is targeted. Gladwell uses Sesame Street as an example of the stickiness factor. The point of Sesame Street is to introduce literacy to youth in order to give them a sort of boost when they enter the education system. Sesame Street Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Vanishing Point Paper Vanishing point was the main focus for this paper, the VP is where the orthogonal lines all meet. Knowing how to find the VP made me want to choose what I believed to be challenging pictures out of what was given to us. This being said, I chose Gas, Edward Hopper 1940, Corridor in the Asylum, Vincent Van Gogh 1889, and L`Europe –Geneva Bridge, Gustave Caillebotte 1876. In these three paintings I not only saw a challenge, but also a neat story that can be conveyed in finding the VP. Gas, Edward Hopper 1940, is a picture of a man working the gas pump during the day while no one else is around. The first orthogonal line I chose for this picture was against the grass line following along the gas pumps. I took the line and pulled it along the...show more content... A man and woman are walking over the bridge while a dog is walking toward them, and another man is gazing out in the water. In this painting I have three orthogonal lines starting with the first one on the top corner of the building on the left side. This line then follows across the roofline, down through the man walking's neck, through the woman's skirt. This line then finishes on the cement and ending on the shadow of the dog. Orthogonal line two starts at the end of the bridge railing on the bottom right side. The line then continues down the railing, crossing through the old man in green and through the woman and man walking near each other. This line will end on the building in the left corner and right above the buggy by finishing on the building. The third and final line starts along the sidewalk on the bottom left side, leading up the sidewalk and going through the man's coat, head and hat, while ending on building in the middle of the painting. The vanishing point leads us to the man that's walking's head while he is looking away at the water. This vanishing point pulls the focus of the painting on the man and also the women next to him on the bridge. These three pictures all have very different stories in them, which creates for different vanishing points. In some paintings or drawings it can be hard to find a vanishing point due to the different time eras of the artists. Overall, the vanishing points allowed me to zone in on the meanings behind each painting and allowed me to come up with a story as to what's going on in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Lab Report On Boiling Points Laura Breuning Lab Report 4 Abstract This experiment evaluated and reviewed the concepts used to identify unknown molecules. The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a melting point trial and an infrared spectrometry trial. All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown molecules. Introduction In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three key factors the first being intermolecular forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what functional group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. "The two other factors that affect boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain" (3 Trends that affect boiling points). "Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies, which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance numbers can then be directly tied to certain functional groups" (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated during this lab. Methods Part 1: Melting point First collect a melting point apparatus, a capillary test tube. Collect a small amount of the #666 unknown in the capillary test tube approximately enough to cover 2 cm of the capillary test tube. Then place the capillary test Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Analysis Of The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell In the nonfiction novel The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell takes his readers on a journey through an array of social epidemics to observe what causes them to spread globally, or what he calls their tipping points. His style, along with an unambiguous tone and diction, captivates the interest of his intended young adults audience. He argues that tipping points have three different causes: the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, and thePower of Context. Gladwell successfully connects with his reader and presents much evidence to defend his viewpoint before turning it over to the reader for he or she to try to cause an epidemic on his or her own. With situations so massive as social epidemics, the complexity of the topics he proposes could be very arduous to understand, but, through his style, tone, and diction, Gladwell makes his points clear. His style involves a myriad of examples that the reader can connect with. For example, Gladwell uses the hit children's show Sesame Street which many of his readers should know well. On top of his simplistic style, his light tone keeps complex ideas even more simplified, and he is able to get his points across in a way that the audience will accept them. As he explains the difficult goal for Sesame Street to be an educational show, Gladwell writes, "But a television is just a talking...show more content... One of the main reasons for why Wilson introduced his 14 points was the thought that there could be an organization that gathered the majority of countries and created the same living, political, and economic conditions for all its participants. • 11. Strong And Weak Points Essay Strong points and weak points In life, we normally have our strong points and our weak points. Just as in life, in writing, it's what we do with those negatives and positives that makes the difference. My negatives in writing are the techniques I've not yet mastered and my positives are me not giving up. While writing this essay I encountered a lot of different ideas, thoughts and emotions. However, Mainly I was blank, it took me forever to even begin this essay. I believe I allowed the play on words to throw me. For example, the instructions for this assignment is to write an essay to your instructor reflecting on your writing process and final draft of profile essay. I froze at "to your instructor". As I previously mentioned in my last reflective essay, getting a paper started has always been a big challenge for me. I again most often doubt myself and my writing abilities. I am surprised that I have made it this far in this course. This course, ENG 101 and you, Mr. Perkins I credit for my improvements. I say improvements because I am by far a finished product. I'd like to think that I'm a well–organized individual, however, when it comes to writing that's a different story. Figuring out how to write what I am thinking is a weakness. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. I have real trouble with putting paragraphs and sentences in the right order. I guess that 's my fault because I write as thoughts come! The first paragraph is always hardest for me, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Journalist and speaker, Malcolm Gladwell, has worked as a staff writer at The New Yorker for twenty years now. In addition to being a staff writer, Gladwell is also the author of five books which focus primarily on sociology and psychology. In February of 2000, Gladwell released his debut (and most successful) book, The Tipping Point, and it gained national popularity as well as earned its spot on The New York Times Best Seller list. The Tipping Point seeks to explain how a trend and/or an idea, no matter how old or new, reaches a point where it "tips" and then begins to spread rapidly. Throughout the book, Gladwell examines several social epidemics in the world including the unanticipated revival of the Hush Puppies shoes, teen smoking in...show more content... The Power of Context serves as a great explanation for this. As stated by Gladwell, "Epidemics are sensitive to the conditions and circumstances of the times and places in which they occur" (Gladwell 139). Monica released "So Gone" in the early spring of 2003 while the #SoGoneChallenge gained popularity in the summer of 2016. Shortly after the release of "So Gone", several events including a tornado outbreak sequence, the Riyadh compound bombings, and the killing of 33 civilians in Morocco due to a terrorist attack took place. These serious occurrences in the outside world overshadowed the success of the song. Although major outside events still exist in 2016 such as the Olympics and the buildup of the up–and–coming presidential election, this generation of teens and young adults seem to occasionally attempt to shed light on a numerous amount of situations. For example, some of the participants of the #SoGoneChallenge have actually addressed those events in their versions of the challenge in joking ways. Also, the presence of social media today increases the circulation of them. Likewise, social media serves as a platform for the aspiring rappers who partake in the challenge. Monica, who currently has 4.4 million followers on Instagram, has reposted her favorite videos which may persuade people to follow suit Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay on The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell looks at a number of social epidemics and analyzes their build up to the point where they tip. "Tipping" is that point where an epidemic booms, or grows, to its maximum potential. Gladwell begins defining "tipping" with a literal example of the famous shoes, Hush Puppies. Once considered old–fashioned, Hush Puppies experienced a social boom in the mid–90s when hipsters in New York made them trendy again. Gladwell continues explaining "tipping" with a medical epidemic of syphilis in Baltimore. Gladwell introduces us to three essential rules of epidemics: the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor and the Power of Context. The Law of the Few says a key factor in epidemics is the role of the messenger: it...show more content... If the environment is not right, the trend will probably not tip as if the environment was right. Much like the environment, groups of people of different sizes and types must embrace the epidemic, as well, in order for tipping to occur. The idea of "tipping" is important in every industry and aspect of life because it'll make whatever we're selling or doing, successful. According to The Tipping Point almost everything in life "tips" at some point. The idea of a "tipping point" can be related to most economic trends as at some time, each trend reaches a point where it booms. For example, unemployment reached a tipping point in March of 2009 and then peaked in October of 2009. These high rates were factors in causing and sustaining the Great Recession which impacted the economy significantly. Essentially, the same would work for job growth rates as well, growing until a certain tipping point and then booming. Many people currently believe that the tipping point for the fiscal cliff is raising taxes on the rich. Many economists believe that unemployment can be solved with inflation in the short term. They think that if you increase inflation, unemployment will decrease. The reasoning behind this is that if you increase the amount of money in the economy, more people will spend so there will be more demand for goods and services. With more demand for goods and services, firms will hire more people to increase their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Personal Narrative: Pin-Point In College Where should I even begin? I wish I could pin–point exactly when the chaos began. Unfortunately, I cannot. I am a first generation college student. I have grown up in a family that consisted of two parents and three older sisters. The good thing I can say is that we are complete, but we aren't exactly a "whole." My sisters' and I grew up under a belt held by my father. To this day I can still recall my early days as a child when I witnessed my father abused my mother, my sister, and then eventually me. It was a mix of physical and emotional abuse. An abuse only children are able to bear due to the love they have for their parents. If I have to pin–point exactly when all of this tension began within me, I would say the day my older sisters...show more content... Unfortunately, neither of them were able to finish their schooling due to having to support themselves after moving out. My sisters were miserable. Their husbands were not exactly, at the time, prepared. Everything was handed down to my sisters and I don't know what struck such bad luck towards both of them! The taste of freedom had gotten best of them. To this day, my father is still suffering the burden of his two older daughters. I would constantly see my father cradling each of my sister every time they sought solace in our home away from their husbands. My heart aches each time I'd listen to the cries of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. The Tipping Point: a Summary "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference" by: Malcolm Gladwell A Summary: The Tipping Point presents us mainly with three rules or characteristics of "the tipping point" or an epidemic, and these are: 1.The Law of the Few 2.The Stickiness Factor 3.The Power of Context The Law of the Few There are three kinds of "the few", namely: Connectors, Mavens and the Salesmen. The Connectors are the kinds of people who know lots of people, and are able to get a message across and to many in a matter of a short period of time, depending on the context. This is explicitly explained in Gladwell's example of the six degrees of separation in his book. The Connectors are the kinds of people who have their foot...show more content... Both of these theories are based on the premise that an epidemic can be reversed, can be tipped, by tinkering with the smallest details of the immediate environment. He gives the example of the crime rate in the New York subway station going down because the authorities had worked harder in catching hooligans who pick–pocket and other officials and employees at the subway station make efforts to always clean up and scrub away any graffiti marks in the subway cars and walls. They did not have to come up with any drastic solutions, they just had to tinker with the environment, and eventually, the hooligans had stopped with their vandalism, and crime rates had gone down a significant number. "You don't have to solve big problems to solve crime... our inner states are the result of outer circumstances." The Rule of 150 The Rule of 150 is a strange and unexpected way by which context affects the course of social epidemics. Gladwell gave an example of how a multi–national company had gained success by keeping employees at a number of 150. If manpower had gone over, then it was time to expand by splitting them and creating another 150 out of those two groups, and creating a new complex and more parking spaces to accommodate new employees that would make the workforce more effective. They did not have ranks or managerial systems their company. They all worked in the same

  • 18. Tipping Point Every society has a tipping point, also referred to as their peak. It makes you wonder, have we reached our peak? As a society have we found the tipping point, and will we proceed to go past that point? There are numerous scholarly journals that support each side of the debate. Some say he have, others would disagree. The research has led me to believe that perhaps, yes, we have reached our limit. Even further, we might continue past our tipping point and begin our decline in stability and world health. With massive price increases in farming our major crops, population growth skyrocketing, and most systems being over used or overloaded we are beginning to find the outlines of the peak of our existence. Information will be presented to support...show more content... The topic everyone hates to talk about! The issue? Increases in the production of carbon dioxide due to increases in both population growth and motor transportation, tied in with deforestation, are the main causes of rising global temperature. The efficacy? In the last 50 years the global temperature has increased roughly one and a half degrees. That does not seem like a large increase, however, when talking about the global temperature even a dramatic change of a couple of degrees can have massive effects on climate and wildlife. If you look back even further on a global temperature map you can see that in the last 150 years, during global industrialization, global temperature has increased dramatically. The increases in temperature also has analogous effect on water levels, as the global temperature increases, so do our water levels. "Our scenario evaluations show that expected changes in temperature, precipitation, and sea level could significantly alter important ecological functions. All of our wildlife indicators were negatively affected by scenarios with less rainfall and more evapotranspiration." (Catano, 2015.) Christopher Catano is a researcher that is studying the effects of global temperature change on Florida's estuaries and wildlife. Catano says, "Using projections of climate scenarios for the year 2060, we evaluated how several possible futures could affect wildlife populations (wading birds, fish, alligators, native apple snails, amphibians, threatened and invasive species) across the Everglades landscape and inform planning is already underway." • 19. Four Point Line Analysis Have you ever shot a 4 pointer season. before not that i think you have. the3 point line is 22 feet there can be deeper three points shots. Making them around 25–30 feet, More challenging shooting contests with the 25–30 foot shots will be more difficult and challenging. In the scenario of a down 4 play with the clock winding down the possibility of a tie. this would be a game changer if it was possible today. Deeper three point shots, i think this is a reason for the four point line because most nba shooters like stephen curry in the 2015–2016 nba season he shot 46.7 percent from 30+ foot shots. Another point is the option to shoot from deeper instead doing it if you want to. And with the deeper three pointers players will be harder to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Essay on The Tipping Point The Tipping Point What can one consider being a tipping point in a situation. Is it when a situation changes from bad to worse? Could it be when it changes from good to better? Or could it be from when it changes from a bad situation and all of a sudden it turns around and becomes good? In my essay we are going to explore the tipping point from four different authors: Malcolm Gladwell, Mary G. King, Lynne M. Anderson, and Christine M. Pearson. From subject of: hush puppies, teen suicide, crime, smoking, incivility in the workplace and the black women's breakthrough into clerical work. There could be many reasons why there were tipping points in these topics, but I will shed light on how hush puppies, which was a fad, had life put...show more content... New York crime grew at an alarming rate from the 1980's to 1990's even as early as 1970's shows increase in crime. Some statistics from New York Law Enforcement Agency Uniform Crime Reports 1960–2009 (www.diastercenter.com): Murders: 1970– 1,444, 1973– 2,020 1976–1,976, 1979–2,092, 1982–2,013, 1985–1,683, 1988–2,244, 1990–2,605, 1998–924. It was said that during those time that when the sun went down the neighbors was infested with gangs and drug dealers and with the most of the crime taken place in Brownville and East New York (Gladewell, 2005). It wasn't until 1998 that crime had took a sudden decline and dropped 64.4% in Brownville and East New York (Gladwell, 2005). So what brought on the sudden tipping point? Depends on who is asked is where you will get your answer. New York police will tell you that their police strategies dramatically improved, criminologists will tell you that the crack trade and aging of the population is what made that change. Economist will point to the city's economy improvements over the course of the 1990's that effected the employment. It would be hard to say that one particular issue is the reason why without being able to take that situation out to see if it had an effect, but with them all, improvements were made and a tipping Get more content on HelpWriting.net
