Dream Analysis Jung
Many people believe their dreams are a manifestation of their subconscious. Dream analysis is the process of evaluating dreams to determine their
meaning. The process of analyzing ones dreams dates back to ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptian people believed dreams were a message from the
Gods. Furthermore, in the 20th century Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung gave way to greater scientific advancements through developed scientific theories
and disciplines. Freud believed that dreams were the unconscious mind hiding repressed wants and desires from the conscious mind to protect the
conscious mind from disturbing thoughts. However, Jung who at the time was a colleague of Freud's disagreed. Jung thought that dreams were a
means for the unconscious mind to bring to light inner desires to the conscious mind. In either case, by analyzing dreams a person has...show more

She also suffered from night terrors. Her spouse often spoke of her screaming in her sleep, getting up and running, or crying out panicked. She has had
the same dreams repeatedly for the past two weeks. She has had dreams of running often in the past as well. It is important to note that during therapy
she has admitted to sexual abuse from a step–parent as an adolescent and recently moved closer in proximity to him. In the dream she says she feels
panicked, like she is being chase, she sees the deep reds and blacks, and never feels like she reaches safety. Through analysis of her dream, her
therapist was able to help her cope with the sexual abuse trauma, because her dream was her subconscious mind working through the trauma. The
colors red and black are possibly symbolic of her anger towards the step–parent, and her panicked running was her minds way of trying to stop the
sexual abuse. Through therapy with dream analysis the woman was able to better understand the meaning behind her unconscious mind and work
towards a healthier sleep

Dreams: Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud Essay
"Dreams are a series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep." This is the true
definition of what dreams are according to Free Dictionary.com. Although many people are unaware of how dreams actually work there are two
psychologists that have been able to pinpoint the true meaning of dreams. These two men are Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. There are many different
perceptions on how people dream, what dreams mean, and why people dream.
Sigmund Freud is known as the father of psychoanalysis, along with a psychologist, physiologist, and medical doctor. Freud worked with Joseph
Breuer to develop the theory of how the mind is a complex energy system.Throughout Freud's life he...show more content...
These are often suppressed because people do not want to come to realization that this is a desire of this and this is often times why people dream
about such things. Although Freud and Jung share a research topic, Carl Jung did not agree completely with the sexual desires concept. Jung
believed that dreams are messages from our subconscious. Allen Hobson was another top contributor to the theory of dreams and why people
dream. He is known as the first man to study dreams scientifically. Hobson created a new theory in the 1970's that was not based on the content of
dreams, but how the brain worked during those dreams. In the article, "What are Dreams?", it states the belief that Hobson had. The statement is, "It
asserts that when we enter REM sleep, the state in which we dream the most, a signal is sent out from the brain stem located farthest below the brain,
and the area of it responsible for visual perception becomes active. During sleep, we cease to input information from the outside world, so the brain
takes memory fragments and pieces them together to create a story: a dream. The part of the brain that handles caution and judgment is not fully
active at this time, which results in incoherent stories." "REM means a stage in the normal sleep cycle during which dreams occur and the body
undergoes marked changes including rapid eye movement, loss of reflexes, and increased pulse rate and brain activity. Also

Dream Analysis Essay
Most of us have at one time or another experienced a dream, be it a nightmare or a pleasant walk in a forest. Either way, it was always believed that
dreams encompass a coded message that might be expressing our hidden wishes, things that happened in the past or even predict the future. In the past,
there have been many attempts to unravel the secret hidden behind the dreams and so far the world came up with three main theories of interpreting
the dreams (Freudian, Jungian and Cognitive)(Wade, Travis 1998). In this essay I will attempt to analyze my dream by using each of the theories
mentioned above, then compare the outcomes as well as their possible connections to my life and in the end determine, which one of these theories is

But the deer around the arbor is much greater puzzle than the objects discussed before. It could stand for knowledge that I might need along my
way or it could even represent a woman (who I will probably need in the course of my life). However, when I apply that outcome to my present
situation, the first outcome (knowledge) is much more probably than the second one. Last things that I have omitted were those six bullets.
Number six, according to the common knowledge in my country, is an unlucky number, therefore it could have stood for death, for bad luck or for
a bad choice that I have made when I decided to shot that pig and not the deer. It may signify that before I set out for my journey, I may make a bad
decision that I will suffer from on my way to the mountain (pork is not as good as venison). However, my Internet source mentioned that number six
symbolizes completeness and in some cases it may signalize a conflict in the future (Gifford). As it could be observed, there was used the method of
free association mainly in combination with the dream work function of representation. Nevertheless, all of these explanations could have been truth,
but in their core they are too general and their meaning is sometimes too ambiguous. Therefore I would not consider the Freudian theory of dream
analysis as an accurate way to analyze my dream and thus

Essay about Dream Analysis
According to Merriam–Webster, a dream can be defined as a series of thoughts, images or emotions occurring during sleep. Form many people, sleep
can be a disturbing time, but for others it can be a peaceful, longing time of the day. For me, I LOVE my sleep, as well as any dreams that may
accompany my slumber.
I would like to think I have a very vivid imagination, based on some of the dreams that I encounter. I do find that I can remember most of my dreams,
at least for a few hours, however, by the end of the day, I honestly can say that last night's dream has been long since forgotten.
After having a late night talk with my brother a year or so ago, I discovered that he and I are even more similar than I thought. He revealed to me...show

One dream in particular, is an old friend of mine. I dreamt that I was trying to find her house, and it was in a city and I got lost and couldn't find it.
I eventually found it and it was an old, run down apartment that was in a bad neighborhood. About two or three years later, I dreamt that I went to
visit that same friend, but she had moved into a large home with red walls and a tall stair case. (Very weird, I know). Surprisingly, after having a
few of these dreams about my friend Cindy, I decided to look her up on Facebook, and found her. Not only did we get a chance to talk, but also we
met last summer for an afternoon. Since seeing her last summer, I have only dreamed about her once more. I did confide in her that I had been
having dreams about her and didn't know why. Interesting enough, she had recently moved into a home that she and her husband had built
themselves, after renting an old, run down house. Based on what I researched about reoccurring dreams, I would have to say that my reoccurring
dreams most likely are due to the loss I feel about people moving on and me "not seeing" them again. For the most part, all of my family and friends
live right here in Maryland. There are less than a handful of friends or family that do not live within driving distance from my residence. Perhaps I am
feeling a loss and concerned over her welfare, since I had not seen her in quite sometime.
Most of the time, I do not give much thought to my dreams. However, when I have

There are numerous theories regarding the function of our dreams, they are mainly based on speculation more than research. This enchanted place
of consciousness is what got me interested about dreams. Dreams are based on the individual in that we usually dream of ourselves. I feel that
greater understanding of our dreams will have a major influence for individuals to understand themselves better. Why people dream, what they
dream of, and what is the meaning of their dreams, are topics of interests with many types of researchers, artists, and some clinical practitioners.
Freud believed our dreams gave insight to our deep desires of love, money, and acceptance or any yearning of the individual. The point of view of
which Freud interprets and examines the manifest of dreams content to obtain their latent meaning is of a professional psychologist and clinical
observer who looked for a way to explain how our minds work and how the individual psychology functions. He based his work on clinical experiences
and clinical neurosis of the matter of his own interpretations to be able to confirm his theories as a proven fact. The result Freud gets from the patients
he observes and interpretation of their dreams are stereotyped to the complete human condition. Our dreams are objects of endless enchantment and
mystery for mankind as far back as the beginning of time. The nocturnal

Free Association And Dream Analysis
Free Association is a central technique in psychoanalytic therapy. Free association is where clients can vent and speak their mind to find closure. Free
association can be used with current clients because it gives the client the chance to open up about other significant activities that can help resolve or
lead to a solution for their situation. For example, clients speak of wishes and fantasies of how they imagine their life.
Dream Analysis also known as Dream Work. According to Corey, Dream analysis has two levels of content: latent content and manifest content. Latent
content is hiding reality and the pain that can and will occur. Manifest Content is escaping the pain in a dream (p. 80); believing that the client is a

books. Then, for some reason, the magic had ended and she'd been back on the fairy again at the same moment she'd left" (Pearson page). This
quote shows that dreams never last and need to face reality before they get lost in their own word. "Then one day, on the ferry to Victoria to meet
her Aunt Sharon, Theo somehow wakes up with a loving family of her own." (publishersweekly.com) This quote shows that all the dreams that she
was having were just in her head of unrealistic thoughts. This is problematic because she does not have real family anymore and she does not
know what it feels like to have a loving mother to care for her and any type of love in her family. She cannot tell what is real or not anymore. When
reality comes in to terms with something that you love but cannot have. "we hope the magic will hold for this child "who weeps inside herself" (Quill

Narrative Essay About Having A Dream
Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too far–fetched
either because of other people's comments or because of our own self–doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we
believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have adream and keep
it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just
that. A dream.
Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case.

She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy. We began to think of how I could do both and
came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was probably the worst idea we've ever had. I don't even think it would have worked out well either, but
it was the fact that I could have done it and my mom would be completely okay with it and made it seem perfectly normal that helped me to never quit
on my dreams.
Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother
struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never
pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true.
Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to go out a lot so she was always home studying or in
her room. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only
about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty.
Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel like nothing. She didn't even have protection from
her own mother, because her mom would never say anything about it. She just let it happen.

What Dreams Are Essay
What Dreams Are
Dreams, we all have them at one time or another, and in one form or another. They can be daydreams, when we're awake, wishing and hoping for
something more (bigger and better) than we already have, or the way we hope things should and would be. Next there is the wish, this is when
there is a strong desire for a specific thing, a longing for one particular thing. Then there is the nightmare. They are the dreams that are very
disturbing, full of fear and horror. They are often a very scary event played out while one is asleep, although we do not know we are asleep. "Dreams
are a sequence of images etc. passing through a sleeping persons mind" (Webster's 182). Because dreams are often complex and very vivid, many

frustration or satisfy hidden wishes. However when one lives only in his daydreams, he may have a serious mental disorder. The daydreamer may

expectation of it being fulfilled. We continue to hope and wish for things all our lives, but it seems "Young people have an almost biological destiny

"Wish–vb. Recommended (a person) to (another), commend to SHR 1. 1. 112. I wish him to her father, SHR 1. 2. 60." To wish for something is
similar to a daydream; however, it is usually for a particular thing, like a bigger and better house or car. Also a wish can be an illusion where one's
perception of reality is mistaken. Nightmare, "A frightening dream, often accompanied by a sensation of

The Meaning of a Dream
The best part of a long, hard–working day is when you finally get to lay in your bed, close your eyes and let your imagination run free. As you sleep
your mind takes you to another place far away from the real world. You begin to dream. Over the night, you may have several dreams. In the
morning, you may wake up and wonder what your dreams were suppose to mean for you and your life. By analyzing your dream, it "gives a true picture
of the 'subjective state'–how we really feel about ourselves–which the conscious mind cannot or will not give" (Wietz 289). In order to find the
meaning of a dream, you have to pick out the most important symbols and define them. But you may be wondering what exactly is a symbol?...show

My dream began in a huge mansion late one night. I began to walk down the long, narrow hall. Bright flashes of lightning lit up the hallway for

"Such are the familiar dreams of falling from a height, of teeth falling out, of flying and of embarrassment of being naked" (Freud 69). These

that there existed a structural model for our personalities that consisted of the id, ego, and superego. He held the idea that the id was an instinctual
drive that relied upon the pleasure principle. Conversely, however outrageous the desire was, it was repressed by the superego. This superego

convectionist, unlike Freud who was a reductionist. Jung saw dreams as a way to come up with solutions to problems you are facing in your waking

help people lead happier and healthier lives. He believed that the manifest content in our dreams is just as important as the latent content when it comes
to interpreting our dreams. Freud took a very hands on approach when interpreting people's dreams, but Jung put forth less information from himself
because he thought dream interpretation relied heavily on the dreamer himself. A college student who is experiencing nightmares consistently may

The manifest content of your dreams is what happens on the surface of the dream. That is often compared to the latent content of dreams, which is
what the manifest content represents or symbolizes. When attempting to analyze the dream to discover the latent content, the dreamer has to reflect
fully on the dream in question, recalling as much detail as possible. Every detail of the dream could be potentially crucial in analyzing the manifest

and overall purplish tint of the dream. Despite this, there is little light coming from the few street lamps that are positioned in the yard, casting an

To many people, dreams are the thoughts that occur while sleeping, having almost mystic qualities. For millennia the significance of dreams has
escaped even the brightest of philosophers and intellectuals. Many people have speculated about why people dream and what meanings the dreams
have but in recent times two theories have gained credibility in answering those questions. The first theory is Sigmund Freuds and the other is known
as the cognitive theory of dreams also known as biological determinism.
Freud presented his theory about dreams in the book The Interpretation of Dreams in 1899. In it he sets out to prove "there is a psychological

Freud outlines methods of interpreting dreams. The first is a symbolic interpretation of the dream. This method identifies symbols in the dream that
represent something in the waking life, making the dream simpler to understand if done correctly (Freud 129). The second method is to "decode" the
dream. Symbols are said to be universal and every symbol has a counterpart that it represents in the waking life. In effect the real meaning of the dream
is encoded into universal symbols and must be decoded to understand it (Freud 130).
Freud found two meanings in a dream: the manifest meaning and the latent meaning (Freud 168). The manifest meaning of a dream is what is
remembered upon waking (Felluga). The manifest meaning can reflect a situation that follows common sense and unfold in a way possible in
waking life. Other times it can take its own wild path that follows little or no logical sequence when viewed at surface level. Despite this vast
difference, both of these are influenced by the superego, a part of the mind that Freud believes houses the knowledge of the structure of society and
what is acceptable in the dreamers culture. The dream takes place on a stage or backdrop that makes sense and relates to waking life (Freud 216–17).
While the manifest meaning is useful and can itself contain a message, interpretation of it can reveal more than seen at face value.
The second meaning in a dream Freud labels the latent meaning. The latent meaning

Essay on Freud's Dream Analysis. a Case Study
Freud believed that dreams are the "royal road to the unconscious", for it is within an individual's dream state that their unconscious wishes, needs, and
fears are expressed (Corey, 2005, p. 76). Dedicating his work to creating a procedure which could assist with the emergence of unconscious thoughts
into the conscious mind, Freud developed psychoanalytical therapy: a therapy aimed at increasing awareness, encouraging insight into the client's
behaviour, and understanding the significance of symbols (Corey, 2005). Using Freud's psychoanalytic theory on dream analysis, this reflective essay
endeavours to analyse a personal dream. The purpose of this analysis is to offer an interpretation in to any emotional issues that I may be...show more

In the background somewhere, but not in the same room, I could picture my current partners face. He was sad and hurting, but nevertheless, waiting
for me to resolve my problems with my ex, so that he and I could be together. It upset me further that I could not get to him, as he was the reason I
was trying so hard to pack my things and escape, but I could not. In order to extract the latent content from the symbols displayed in my dream, I
performed the technique of free association. Free association is a fundamental tool used to break "through the walls of defense [created by the
preconscious] that block a client's insight into their unconscious" (Rathus, 2004, p. 491). When applying the technique of free association to the
manifest content of my dream, I relaxed myself and then focused on the elements and symbols which were emotionally charged: my ex, the suitcase,
and my partner (Corey, 2005). Following this, any thoughts, feelings, or images which stemmed from the symbols, were noted without restriction or
restraint (Mendham, 2009). * My ex partner – Go. Get out. I do not want you with me. Stay in the past. You hurt me. Dirty. Sick. Yuk. Out of control.
Soiled. Hate. Dad. Peel. Cry. Pain. Betrayed. Lurking. I do not belong to you * Suitcase – Soiled. Dirty. Wasted. Trash. Yuk. Hurt. Pain. Baggage.
Scream. They are in me. * My current partner – I am trying. I

Dream Analysis Jung

  • 1. Dream Analysis Jung Many people believe their dreams are a manifestation of their subconscious. Dream analysis is the process of evaluating dreams to determine their meaning. The process of analyzing ones dreams dates back to ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptian people believed dreams were a message from the Gods. Furthermore, in the 20th century Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung gave way to greater scientific advancements through developed scientific theories and disciplines. Freud believed that dreams were the unconscious mind hiding repressed wants and desires from the conscious mind to protect the conscious mind from disturbing thoughts. However, Jung who at the time was a colleague of Freud's disagreed. Jung thought that dreams were a means for the unconscious mind to bring to light inner desires to the conscious mind. In either case, by analyzing dreams a person has...show more content... She also suffered from night terrors. Her spouse often spoke of her screaming in her sleep, getting up and running, or crying out panicked. She has had the same dreams repeatedly for the past two weeks. She has had dreams of running often in the past as well. It is important to note that during therapy she has admitted to sexual abuse from a step–parent as an adolescent and recently moved closer in proximity to him. In the dream she says she feels panicked, like she is being chase, she sees the deep reds and blacks, and never feels like she reaches safety. Through analysis of her dream, her therapist was able to help her cope with the sexual abuse trauma, because her dream was her subconscious mind working through the trauma. The colors red and black are possibly symbolic of her anger towards the step–parent, and her panicked running was her minds way of trying to stop the sexual abuse. Through therapy with dream analysis the woman was able to better understand the meaning behind her unconscious mind and work towards a healthier sleep Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Analysis Of Dream A Little Dream Of Me First recorded in 1931 by Oswald George Nelson, known as Ozzie Nelson, with his orchestra, "Dream a Little Dream of Me" came into existence. Two days later, after Ozzie Nelson had recorded "Dream a Little Dream of Me", the song was again recorded on February 18, 1931 by orchestra leader and musician Wayne King. Since those first two recordings of "Dream a Little Dream of Me" there have been approximately 60 versions by many well–known artists of which included Mama Cass Elliot in 1968 with the group The Mama's and The Papa's. The Music: "Dream a Little Dream of Me" is a classic song that has stood the test of time in popularity from 1931 to 2017. Over the course of eighty–six years, "Dream a Little Dream of Me" has been recorded and released by many well–known artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Doris Day and Cass Elliot. Lyrics by Gus Kahn and the music was composed by Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt. All of the renditions of the song "Dream a Little Dream of Me" are different in their own way with different styles and tempos. In this paper my focus will be on the recording by Cass Elliot in 1968. Based upon the www.npr.org website, "Dream a Little Dream of Me" "sold nearly seven million copies almost 40 years after the music was composed by two relatively unknown musicians, Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt." • 3. Dreams: Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud Essay "Dreams are a series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep." This is the true definition of what dreams are according to Free Dictionary.com. Although many people are unaware of how dreams actually work there are two psychologists that have been able to pinpoint the true meaning of dreams. These two men are Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. There are many different perceptions on how people dream, what dreams mean, and why people dream. Sigmund Freud is known as the father of psychoanalysis, along with a psychologist, physiologist, and medical doctor. Freud worked with Joseph Breuer to develop the theory of how the mind is a complex energy system.Throughout Freud's life he...show more content... These are often suppressed because people do not want to come to realization that this is a desire of this and this is often times why people dream about such things. Although Freud and Jung share a research topic, Carl Jung did not agree completely with the sexual desires concept. Jung believed that dreams are messages from our subconscious. Allen Hobson was another top contributor to the theory of dreams and why people dream. He is known as the first man to study dreams scientifically. Hobson created a new theory in the 1970's that was not based on the content of dreams, but how the brain worked during those dreams. In the article, "What are Dreams?", it states the belief that Hobson had. The statement is, "It asserts that when we enter REM sleep, the state in which we dream the most, a signal is sent out from the brain stem located farthest below the brain, and the area of it responsible for visual perception becomes active. During sleep, we cease to input information from the outside world, so the brain takes memory fragments and pieces them together to create a story: a dream. The part of the brain that handles caution and judgment is not fully active at this time, which results in incoherent stories." "REM means a stage in the normal sleep cycle during which dreams occur and the body undergoes marked changes including rapid eye movement, loss of reflexes, and increased pulse rate and brain activity. • 4. Dream Analysis Essay Most of us have at one time or another experienced a dream, be it a nightmare or a pleasant walk in a forest. Either way, it was always believed that dreams encompass a coded message that might be expressing our hidden wishes, things that happened in the past or even predict the future. In the past, there have been many attempts to unravel the secret hidden behind the dreams and so far the world came up with three main theories of interpreting the dreams (Freudian, Jungian and Cognitive)(Wade, Travis 1998). In this essay I will attempt to analyze my dream by using each of the theories mentioned above, then compare the outcomes as well as their possible connections to my life and in the end determine, which one of these theories is the most...show more content... But the deer around the arbor is much greater puzzle than the objects discussed before. It could stand for knowledge that I might need along my way or it could even represent a woman (who I will probably need in the course of my life). However, when I apply that outcome to my present situation, the first outcome (knowledge) is much more probably than the second one. Last things that I have omitted were those six bullets. Number six, according to the common knowledge in my country, is an unlucky number, therefore it could have stood for death, for bad luck or for a bad choice that I have made when I decided to shot that pig and not the deer. It may signify that before I set out for my journey, I may make a bad decision that I will suffer from on my way to the mountain (pork is not as good as venison). However, my Internet source mentioned that number six symbolizes completeness and in some cases it may signalize a conflict in the future (Gifford). As it could be observed, there was used the method of free association mainly in combination with the dream work function of representation. Nevertheless, all of these explanations could have been truth, but in their core they are too general and their meaning is sometimes too ambiguous. Therefore I would not consider the Freudian theory of dream analysis as an accurate way to analyze my dream and thus Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay about Dream Analysis According to Merriam–Webster, a dream can be defined as a series of thoughts, images or emotions occurring during sleep. Form many people, sleep can be a disturbing time, but for others it can be a peaceful, longing time of the day. For me, I LOVE my sleep, as well as any dreams that may accompany my slumber. I would like to think I have a very vivid imagination, based on some of the dreams that I encounter. I do find that I can remember most of my dreams, at least for a few hours, however, by the end of the day, I honestly can say that last night's dream has been long since forgotten. After having a late night talk with my brother a year or so ago, I discovered that he and I are even more similar than I thought. He revealed to me...show more content... One dream in particular, is an old friend of mine. I dreamt that I was trying to find her house, and it was in a city and I got lost and couldn't find it. I eventually found it and it was an old, run down apartment that was in a bad neighborhood. About two or three years later, I dreamt that I went to visit that same friend, but she had moved into a large home with red walls and a tall stair case. (Very weird, I know). Surprisingly, after having a few of these dreams about my friend Cindy, I decided to look her up on Facebook, and found her. Not only did we get a chance to talk, but also we met last summer for an afternoon. Since seeing her last summer, I have only dreamed about her once more. I did confide in her that I had been having dreams about her and didn't know why. Interesting enough, she had recently moved into a home that she and her husband had built themselves, after renting an old, run down house. Based on what I researched about reoccurring dreams, I would have to say that my reoccurring dreams most likely are due to the loss I feel about people moving on and me "not seeing" them again. For the most part, all of my family and friends live right here in Maryland. There are less than a handful of friends or family that do not live within driving distance from my residence. Perhaps I am feeling a loss and concerned over her welfare, since I had not seen her in quite sometime. Most of the time, I do not give much thought to my dreams. The purpose of the paper will be to show the principals of Freud's dream related theory that focuses on the physiology, interpretation, and psychology of dreams and to explain concepts such as latent and manifest content of dreams, the part of unconscious process, and the nature of dreams role in the determination of dream content. I would like to explore Sigmund Freud's explanations of psycho–analytic and psychological theory and method to reveal whether Freud's continuous revising to sexually based conclusions are able to support his own arguments. One of his themes was the amount of activity that goes on in our brains without us even...show more content... There are numerous theories regarding the function of our dreams, they are mainly based on speculation more than research. This enchanted place of consciousness is what got me interested about dreams. Dreams are based on the individual in that we usually dream of ourselves. I feel that greater understanding of our dreams will have a major influence for individuals to understand themselves better. Why people dream, what they dream of, and what is the meaning of their dreams, are topics of interests with many types of researchers, artists, and some clinical practitioners. Freud believed our dreams gave insight to our deep desires of love, money, and acceptance or any yearning of the individual. The point of view of which Freud interprets and examines the manifest of dreams content to obtain their latent meaning is of a professional psychologist and clinical observer who looked for a way to explain how our minds work and how the individual psychology functions. He based his work on clinical experiences and clinical neurosis of the matter of his own interpretations to be able to confirm his theories as a proven fact. The result Freud gets from the patients he observes and interpretation of their dreams are stereotyped to the complete human condition. Our dreams are objects of endless enchantment and mystery for mankind as far back as the beginning of time. The nocturnal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Free Association And Dream Analysis Free Association is a central technique in psychoanalytic therapy. Free association is where clients can vent and speak their mind to find closure. Free association can be used with current clients because it gives the client the chance to open up about other significant activities that can help resolve or lead to a solution for their situation. For example, clients speak of wishes and fantasies of how they imagine their life. Dream Analysis also known as Dream Work. According to Corey, Dream analysis has two levels of content: latent content and manifest content. Latent content is hiding reality and the pain that can and will occur. Theo is not your typical child during her spare time, she likes to be alone and curl up to a good book if not she is always daydreaming about unrealistic things. Even if Theo tried making friends they wouldn't last long since she always moved schools and switched apartments. Her mother was a smoker and waisted all their money on clothing and expensive accessories. There was nothing about Theo's life that was normal no loving parents to come to after school, no clean clothes, and no toys so she made up her own fantasy. In her mind the perfect family was coming home to fresh clean clothes a buffet full of food ant to parents that would love her unconditionally but in the world that we live in today that is not possible. "She had spent all that happy time with the family in the sort of magic adventure that happened in books. Then, for some reason, the magic had ended and she'd been back on the fairy again at the same moment she'd left" (Pearson page). This quote shows that dreams never last and need to face reality before they get lost in their own word. "Then one day, on the ferry to Victoria to meet her Aunt Sharon, Theo somehow wakes up with a loving family of her own." (publishersweekly.com) This quote shows that all the dreams that she was having were just in her head of unrealistic thoughts. This is problematic because she does not have real family anymore and she does not know what it feels like to have a loving mother to care for her and any type of love in her family. She cannot tell what is real or not anymore. When reality comes in to terms with something that you love but cannot have. "we hope the magic will hold for this child "who weeps inside herself" (Quill and Quire). Theo lost many things but she just needed someone to be there for her but she has nothing no friends, no parents and nothing to call her own which keeps her always trying to fit into somewhere where she does not Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too far–fetched either because of other people's comments or because of our own self–doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have adream and keep it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just that. A dream. Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty. Her stepfather was the worst of all. • 12. What Dreams Are Essay What Dreams Are Dreams, we all have them at one time or another, and in one form or another. They can be daydreams, when we're awake, wishing and hoping for something more (bigger and better) than we already have, or the way we hope things should and would be. Next there is the wish, this is when there is a strong desire for a specific thing, a longing for one particular thing. Then there is the nightmare. They are the dreams that are very disturbing, full of fear and horror. They are often a very scary event played out while one is asleep, although we do not know we are asleep. We continue to hope and wish for things all our lives, but it seems "Young people have an almost biological destiny to be hopeful" (Digest 49). Our great writers have often used the word wish in their writings. Shakespeare is often quoted in his work, for instance; "Wish–vb. Recommended (a person) to (another), commend to SHR 1. 1. 112. I wish him to her father, SHR 1. 2. 60." To wish for something is similar to a daydream; however, it is usually for a particular thing, like a bigger and better house or car. Also a wish can be an illusion where one's perception of reality is mistaken. Nightmare, "A frightening dream, often accompanied by a sensation of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As you sleep your mind takes you to another place far away from the real world. You begin to dream. Over the night, you may have several dreams. In the morning, you may wake up and wonder what your dreams were suppose to mean for you and your life. By analyzing your dream, it "gives a true picture of the 'subjective state'–how we really feel about ourselves–which the conscious mind cannot or will not give" (Wietz 289). My dream began in a huge mansion late one night. I began to walk down the long, narrow hall. Bright flashes of lightning lit up the hallway for seconds at a time and bangs of thunder shook the whole house. Candles were lined up along my path to light my way slightly. As I walked further and further, I approached the end of the hall where a full sized statue stood. It was standing in shadows and so I had to get close to see it well. All of a sudden, the statue lifted up his solid steel foot with the worn sole of his shabby shoe facing me. It was trying to show me something on the bottom but it was too dark for me to see. I was frightened and began to run in the opposite direction down the hall. Then I woke up. What could this dream mean for my life and me? I wanted to find out. The lightning was one symbol the really stood out from the rest. As a symbol, the lightning could "represent...energy and a fantastic, altering force. It is generally a positive dream symbol which represents the dreamers 'awakened' state of consciousness. At times, a sudden shift in awareness, or unpredictable news, may shock us and leave us feeling anxious. However, enlightenment of any kind has long term positive implications" (Ivin). These dreams that we experience, are believed to be representations of our desires or fears, according to Freudian ideology. Sigmund Freud also believed that there existed a structural model for our personalities that consisted of the id, ego, and superego. He held the idea that the id was an instinctual drive that relied upon the pleasure principle. Conversely, however outrageous the desire was, it was repressed by the superego. This superego functioned as a censor, which assisted us in undertaking socially acceptable behaviors, by repressing urges from the id. The ego acted upon the reality principle...show more content... Most people do not think much about the dreams that they have, unless they are recurring. Dreaming is "a series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during REM sleep." Most people today wake up from a dream or nightmare saying, "thank god that was a dream," or "too bad that was just a dream." Carl Gustav Jung (a.k.a. C.G. Jung) was born in 1875, in Switzerland, and worked closely with Freud for many years, he learned many things from him in this time. Eventually Jung split from him because his ideas and concepts of psychoanalysis began to differ from those of Freud. Jung was a convectionist, unlike Freud who was a reductionist. Jung saw dreams as a way to come up with solutions to problems you are facing in your waking life. Jung took Freud's one technique of "free association" and expanded on it. Unlike Freud, he saw this concept as being extremely important. He thought that the dreamer's thoughts and opinions on what the dream could mean are even more important than anyone else's, including many times an expert. Dreams, to Freud, are a way of interacting with your unconscious. Carl Jung's methods to interpreting dreams could be a very important step to help people lead happier and healthier lives. He believed that the manifest content in our dreams is just as important as the latent content when it comes to interpreting our dreams. Freud took a very hands on approach when interpreting people's dreams, but Jung put forth less information from himself because he thought dream interpretation relied heavily on the dreamer himself. A college student who is experiencing nightmares consistently may visit a psychologist who knows about the meanings of dreams. That is often compared to the latent content of dreams, which is what the manifest content represents or symbolizes. When attempting to analyze the dream to discover the latent content, the dreamer has to reflect fully on the dream in question, recalling as much detail as possible. Every detail of the dream could be potentially crucial in analyzing the manifest content to the subconscious undertones of the dream. The weather of the dream is chilly, the dreamer recalls thinking that they were underdressed for the temperature. Despite this, there is little light coming from the few street lamps that are positioned in the yard, casting an ominous glow on the theme of the dream. Instead of being at this location to walk her dog, as usual, the dreamer is instead holding a fishbowl full of water containing a goldfish. The dreamer then walks with the fishbowl around the track, just as she would do with her dog. The dreamer has the unmistakable feeling that this is a walk for the fish in the way one would walk an animal for exercise. Internally the dreamer noticed nothing out of the ordinary at this point and that walking the fish seemed to be the right thing to do. Walking around the track the dreamer reports feeling slightly frightened or spooked out, despite it being such a familiar location. • 18. Essay Psychology of Dreams Psychology of Dreams To many people, dreams are the thoughts that occur while sleeping, having almost mystic qualities. For millennia the significance of dreams has escaped even the brightest of philosophers and intellectuals. Many people have speculated about why people dream and what meanings the dreams have but in recent times two theories have gained credibility in answering those questions. The first theory is Sigmund Freuds and the other is known as the cognitive theory of dreams also known as biological determinism. Freud presented his theory about dreams in the book The Interpretation of Dreams in 1899. In it he sets out to prove "there is a psychological technique which makes it possible to interpret dreams" and that...show more content... Freud outlines methods of interpreting dreams. The first is a symbolic interpretation of the dream. This method identifies symbols in the dream that represent something in the waking life, making the dream simpler to understand if done correctly (Freud 129). The second method is to "decode" the dream. Symbols are said to be universal and every symbol has a counterpart that it represents in the waking life. In effect the real meaning of the dream is encoded into universal symbols and must be decoded to understand it (Freud 130). Freud found two meanings in a dream: the manifest meaning and the latent meaning (Freud 168). The manifest meaning of a dream is what is remembered upon waking (Felluga). The manifest meaning can reflect a situation that follows common sense and unfold in a way possible in waking life. Other times it can take its own wild path that follows little or no logical sequence when viewed at surface level. Despite this vast difference, both of these are influenced by the superego, a part of the mind that Freud believes houses the knowledge of the structure of society and what is acceptable in the dreamers culture. The dream takes place on a stage or backdrop that makes sense and relates to waking life (Freud 216–17). While the manifest meaning is useful and can itself contain a message, interpretation of it can reveal more than seen at face value. The second meaning in a dream Freud labels the latent meaning. • 19. Essay on Freud's Dream Analysis. a Case Study Freud believed that dreams are the "royal road to the unconscious", for it is within an individual's dream state that their unconscious wishes, needs, and fears are expressed (Corey, 2005, p. 76). Dedicating his work to creating a procedure which could assist with the emergence of unconscious thoughts into the conscious mind, Freud developed psychoanalytical therapy: a therapy aimed at increasing awareness, encouraging insight into the client's behaviour, and understanding the significance of symbols (Corey, 2005). Using Freud's psychoanalytic theory on dream analysis, this reflective essay endeavours to analyse a personal dream. It upset me further that I could not get to him, as he was the reason I was trying so hard to pack my things and escape, but I could not. In order to extract the latent content from the symbols displayed in my dream, I performed the technique of free association. Free association is a fundamental tool used to break "through the walls of defense [created by the preconscious] that block a client's insight into their unconscious" (Rathus, 2004, p. 491). When applying the technique of free association to the manifest content of my dream, I relaxed myself and then focused on the elements and symbols which were emotionally charged: my ex, the suitcase, and my partner (Corey, 2005). Following this, any thoughts, feelings, or images which stemmed from the symbols, were noted without restriction or restraint (Mendham, 2009). * My ex partner – Go. Get out.
