Guidelines on Writing a Research Proposal
Guidelines on writing a research proposal
Introduction
This is a guide to writing M.A. research proposals. The same principles apply to dissertation proposals and to proposals to most funding agencies. It
includes a model outline, but advisor, committee and funding agency expectations vary and your proposal will be a variation on this basic theme. Use
these guidelines as a point of departure for discussions with your advisor. They may serve as a straw–man against which to build your understanding
of both your project and of proposal writing.
For USM students, the same rules apply as for proposals everywhere in the world.
Proposal Writing
Proposal writing is important to your pursuit of a graduate degree. The proposal specifies what...show more content...
One problem with this type of research is that you might find the perfect succinct answer to your question on the night before (or after) you turn in the
final draft ––– in someone else's work. This certainly can knock the wind out of your sails. (But note that even a straight–ahead science thesis can have
the problem of late in the game discovering that the work you have done or are doing has already been done, this is where familiarity with the relevant
literature by both yourself and your committee members is important.)
A Couple of Models for Proposals
A Two Page (Preliminary Proposal) Model
Here is a model for a very brief (maybe five paragraph) proposal that you might use to interest faculty in sitting on your committee. People who are not
yet hooked may especially appreciate its brevity.
In the first paragraph, the first sentence identifies the general topic area. The second sentence gives the research question, and the third sentence
establishes its significance.
The next couple of paragraphs gives the larger historical perspective on the topic. Essentially list the major schools of thought on the topic and very
briefly review the literature in the area with its major findings. Who has written on the topic and what have they found? Allocate about a sentence per
important person or finding. Include any preliminary

Guidelines for Project Proposals
Guidelines for Project Proposals* A technical proposal, often called a "Statement of Work," is a persuasive document. Its objectives are to 1. Identify
what work is to be done 2. Explain why this work needs to be done 3. Persuade the reader that the proposers (you) are qualified for the work, have a
plausible management plan and technical approach, and have the resources needed to complete the task within the stated time and cost constraints.
What makes a good proposal? One attribute is appearance. A strong proposal has an attractive, professional, inviting appearance. In addition, the
information should easy to access. A second attribute is substance. A strong proposal has a well

The purpose of this section is to present the process by which you will arrive at the final answer. This section answers the following questions: 2 1)
What are the steps in the design process? (Describe and use the nine–step model from Chapter 1 of Hyman's text) 2) What are the benefits and
advantages of employing a structured approach to design? 3) How will you generate solution concepts? 4) How will you analyze the performance of
your solution? 5) How will you decide on the best alternative? Specific recommendations for this section include the following: a. First, describe your
overall design process in general terms. A one–page synopsis of Chapter 1 in the Hyman text would be appropriate here. b. Provide at least three
possible solution alternatives and document your methodology to choose the best alternative. Include illustrations such as Figure 1. Try to be as
inclusive and creative as possible with your ideas. Strive to achieve at least one non–conventional or "out of the box" alternative. c. List and describe
all the analytical, or computational tools you will employ to analyze your design, such as ProEngineerВ®, SolidWorksВ®, MathCAD, and MATLAB.
d. List and detail all the experimental procedures you will use to test your design concepts. e. Evaluate your alternatives based on how well they satisfy
the design specifications. Explain the selection criteria by which you will evaluate design

Outline Of A Proposal Outline
Memo
Date: April 10, 2015
To: Amanda Rico, Instructor: English 210 Section 581
From: Jared Glenn
Subject: MWP 2 Outline of Report Completion
Purpose
The purpose of this memo is to provide an outline of the topics I plan to conduct further research on and compile that research in a formalized report
over the specifics of those topics. The final result will be a proposed program, backed with modern research sourcing, ready for completion.
Introduction
In reference to my last memo, I discussed plans to make alterations to Francis Hall, a newly renovated building on the Texas A&M Campus for the
Construction Science Department and student. Specifically, the first task is survey to compile major courses of action, followed by compiling a proposal
in conjunction with a general contractor for consideration by the Board of Regents. The original renovation had a budget of 5 million dollars, which
included classrooms, a computer lab, student lounge, lavatories, and staff offices. The renovation is suitable for the current status of Construction
Science; however the growing program will soon outgrow the building. For these reasons, I am writing a follow up memo of the topics to be included
in my upcoming researched recommendation report.
Tasks to be Researched
With approval to conduct research on my proposed tasks, I will begin by restating each task from the original memo, followed by the subtasks I will
research for each main task.
Main Task 1. Research student opinion, and popular

Essay On My Modest Proposal
My objectives were to get ideas and tips for my PhD proposal. In addition, it was the first time that I was presenting my proposal research in a
poster. I would like to see how I would go and to hear questions about it from others than my advisor. I think that division by year was great because
the talks were very focused in our needs. I could not be more fortunate by having that experience very close to finish my proposal. The conference
presented many opportunities to expand my network. Personally, I shared many experiences over the lunch tables. It was so great to met girls with
great expertise in their areas. Many does not seem to be aware before, how brave they are. That is why the conference is so important. We saw...show

I just realized that in a "run" for to proves ourselves in research, sometimes we ended up not knowing people close to us. In addition, we had fun.
The party was awesome and it was very nice to hang out with my own cohort at night, outside the hotel, for a walk on the sidewalk, or going to
Coronado Beach after ending the conference on Saturday. As a 3rd year student, I was in the verge to finish my proposal. In this sense, the
conference exceed my expectations. I review all my text and approach and it helped me a lot. I made ma dissertation more clear and concise. Due to
the insights, I re–though all my strategy to conduct the research. It was awesome to talk with Prof Dilma da Silva, because she gave me ideas to my
academic career. She also gave me suggestions and examples that can help me to deal with a family issue. That matter is related to my soon and, of
course, he is my best project. Therefore that issue is totally dear to my heart and I think that only a woman with life experience and outstanding career
could give me so broad understating of that issue and ideas how to deal

Outline Of Proposed Proposal For A Proposal
Introduction The introduction of the proposal should be one complete page long and will most likely be divided into two paragraphs. Notice that the
section headings (Table of Contents, Abstract, Introduction, etc.) are still formatted in Times New Roman, 12 point font. Titles, cover pages, and
section headings do not need to be in oversized font, but these may be bolded or underlined to create a separation between the heading and the text.
Also, notice that the section heading appears on the first line and the text begins on the second line (extra space and/or skipped lines should not be
present). The introduction will give more details about the problem that the proposal solution will address. While the problem was identified in the
letter of transmittal and the abstract of the proposal, this section will allow for more details to be identified about the exact problem. The reader
should have a complete understanding of exactly what led the author to write this proposal. This will be the only place that the problem will be
discussed in detail and may include data or statistics related to the problem. Ideally, this portion of the proposal should not include any figures, tables,
or illustrations. Instead, those can be utilized in the body of the proposal to explain the solution plan and benefits. The second paragraph of the
introduction can discuss the purpose of the proposal (the solution and request). This should briefly introduce or outline what the proposal suggests as

The Proposal Essay
Anton Checkov's The Proposal, is a perfect example of the use of literary devices in an effort to create dramatic conflict. The well–meaning characters
create massive tension with one another over a simple and avoidable misunderstanding. Checkov's plot and dialogue turn what should have been a
joyous occasion into a full–fledged argument about the land rights of two neighboring families. Additionally, Checkov uses stage direction to bring out
the anger and frustration of the three characters. Checkov's one–act play exemplifies the interaction of different literary devices when creating
dramatic tension in a play. In the beginning of the play Lumov, Chubocov's neighbor, enters his neighbor's home to ask him for permission to marry
his daughter. At first, Chubocov is afraid that his neighbor has come to borrow money when, in an aside he states, "He's come to borrow money!
Shan't give him any!" The stage direction here may influence the audience to believe that Chubocov is inconvenienced by the presence of his
neighbor, which will be important later on in the play. Subsequently, Lomov reveals his true intentions when he says, "The fact is, I've come to ask the
hand of your daughter, Natalya Stepanovna, in marriage." Lumov is clearly elated by the idea and...show more content...
During his would–be proposal, he casually referenced a plot of land, that the two families share, as his own, which immediately angered Natalya.
There is a brilliant use of dramatic irony here as the audience is aware that Lomov was going to propose. Natalya doesn't know his true intentions,
which builds up tension for the audience. The argument continues for some time until Lomov is queued by stage direction to grasp his heart from the
stress. The audience is fearful for Lomov's life, but the tension is even more intense because the man arrived with honorable

Circle Sentencing Proposal Essay
The following is a research proposal to study the link between recidivism rates and circle sentencing through the examining of circle sentencing with
traditional sentencing methods. This is being undertaken due to the lack of significant numbers in existing research. As such, the study questions
whether the impact of justice served through indigenous sentencing is any different from justice served through traditional sentencing. This study
hypothesises that the rates for recidivism are effectively reduced through indigenous circle sentencing and have lower rates of recidivism than
indigenous offender's sentenced through traditional justice. The researcher also hypothesises that circle sentencing using diversionary programs are far
more effective in reducing recidivism than those without such programs. This proposal will outline the study's research design and methodological
approach, its sampling strategy, methods of collecting data, ethical considerations, and conclusion.
For the purpose of this study, a retrospective cohort design will be implemented in the form of longitudinal study. Retrospective cohort studies are a
type of observational study. It utilises a retrospective cohort methodological approach. Retrospective cohort studies use data that have already been
collected for studies with similar...show more content...
They are also advantageous in that they are much more cheaper than other studies as the data's have already been collected and are able to to analyse

Furthermore, retrospective cohort studies also an advantage for the absence of bias as the current interest of the study was not the interest when the
data was collected (Mann, 2003). Therefore, researcher bias is for the most part

A Modest Proposal Outline
Introduction: In Johnathan Swift's essay "A Modest Proposal," he states all children in Ireland who are born in a low–income family should be sold as
a food source for the affluent families in Ireland. The government believed it was the only way to handle economic problems in the countries of
Ireland when on hard times, but society was not amused by the way the people of Ireland are dealing with their financial issues by selling their own
children like cattle to make money for themselves. In other countries; parents let their older children, even young ones, work in factories or other
business industries to raise money to help support the family. Unlike the parents in Ireland who thinks to sell off their kids (healthy ones) as food to
wealthy citizens is their only chance of surviving through poverty.
Thesis Statement: The use of different satires gives readers a reason to criticize or ridicule on Swift's views on the lives of Irish people. In the 18th
century, families in Ireland were so poor they are made to live on the streets without food, money, shoes, or even clothes to wear. So, to make money
the children's parents made the rash decision of sacrificing them to settle their own financial problems in a humorous but grotesque way.
Main Idea I: Satire is mainly used in stories/novels to humor, or exaggerate readers so they could criticize a character's stupidity. A) During this period,
many people of Ireland are suffering from poverty,

The influence of environmental corporate social responsibility on profitability
Central focus
This research proposal will contain details on how environmental corporate social responsibility affects a firm's profitability. The central question is
how does environmental awareness affect a firm's financial gains? This is a worthwhile question to pursue due to the emerging trend in positive
consumerism (Harrison, 2005) as well as the perceived business benefits of CSR.
This work will be based on a theoretical framework of sustainability and specifically that of corporate social responsibility (CSR).The work of Porter
and Kramer (2003) indicated that businesses can indeed benefit immensely by engaging in CSR activities. These must be done while at the same time
ensuring that the business remains profitable. As Carroll (1983, p. 608), CSR involves the conduct and behavior of a given business in a manner that
is law abiding, economically viable, ethical and yet socially supportive. Eco–efficiency should therefore be one of the ways in which businesses can
offer goods and services in a way that can improve the quality of life so as to make the clients satisfied (Elkington,1997,p.,78). I will therefore be
engaging this topic from the point of view of environmental awareness, eco–efficiency and environmental corporate social responsibility and their
impact on the image and profitability of companies.

Group Treatment Proposal Essay
By encouraging adolescents to become more social in expressing their experiences, the members will naturally form a relationship. At times, trust can
develop, which promotes a sense of belonging among the members and allow indirect identification with an understanding of each other's situation.
Clients with PTSD, especially in the early stage, experience anxiety, or recurrence of a dangerous event in which they lived through. Thus, partaking in
a group treatment where others, not only the therapist, can understand there's thoughts and emotions and then, rationalize together because they too
have experienced a dangerous event and are now, also, seeking ways to deal with similar symptoms will enhance individuals' mental progress. In other

In doing so, normalization, which is the "removal of stigma from problems seen as socially unacceptable by larger society" (), become a critical
advantage. To empower members, the established supportive environment will provide an alternative view that opposes how people with PTSD are
typically disenfranchised in our society. Through observing each other anxiety, inability to cop or function, members can collectively reduce elements
that emphasize difference and develop social participation in their community, family or personal relationships. An example of "normalizing" PTSD
behaviors is the group acknowledging everyday related circumstance and problems, the leaders educating members about PTSD and how to manage
their symptoms. By understanding how PTSD affects them and then learning to use specific tools to help manage their symptoms, each member will
be able to gain control over their impulse to "fight or flee" and begin to engage things that they have been avoiding (i.e., crowds). The group will stand
as a noncompetitive, age–appropriate social activity, in which the teens can discuss differences between them and others and then, working to develop
healthy skills with peers rather than focusing solely on a change or a need to "fit

Statement of Need or Problem to be Addressed The most recent survey of homeless individuals conducted January 29, 2014 revealed 958 homeless
adults with no dependants, 70 of which were completely unsheltered, and an additional 130 homeless adults who also had dependent children with
them. 208 of these homeless adults are chronically homeless (HUD's 2014 Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance Programs, Populations, and

the Journal of General Internal Medicine, a majority of homeless individuals surveyed stated that they felt discriminated against or that they received
lesser care because of their poverty or homelessness (Wen, Hudak, & Hwang, 2007). Homeless and impoverished individuals suffer from high
rates of depression, psychiatric illness, alcohol and or substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, TB, Trauma, preterm birth, COPD, low birth weight,
musculoskeletal problems, decreased access to care, foot problems, malnutrition, and high Emergency Room utilization (Stanhope & Lancaster,

Do you know the similarities and differences between a funding proposal and a research proposal? According to the website learnerassociates.net
/proposal, writing a funding proposal was created to help empower people to be successful in gaining funds for projects that provide worthwhile social
service. Aresearch proposal considers your overall topic ideas, your research question, your research process, and your sources and scaffolds what the
next steps will be for the project. There are similarities and differences between writing a funding proposal and a research proposal.
A research proposal is most often written by scholars seeking grant funding for a research project or it's the first step in getting approval to write a
doctoral dissertation. Even if this is just a course assignment, the introduction is the initial pitch of an idea or a thorough examination of the
significance of a research problem. After reading the introduction, readers should not only understand what is being proposed. Most proposals do not
include an abstract before the introduction. Background and Significance, this section can be melded into your introduction or you can create a
separate section to help with the organization and narrative flow of your proposal. This is where you explain the context of your proposal and describe
in detail why it's important. Approach writing this section with the thought that you can't assume your readers will know as much about the research
problem as you do. Note

A Research Proposal On Big Data
Research Proposal The research proposal can be developed from the topic of big data to match up the demands of enormous data flow in the
dynamic world. Data visualization tools at significant cost can help up in analytics of big data and can form an innovative research proposal for
analysis and extensive research. The real time data and the use of techniques of big data in this domain can form an excellent topic of research
calling for formulating methodologies and strategies to tap the untapped potential of this field and to experiment more in the field of research.
Since, real time processing acts as a game changer in big data the research developed would be to have an insight into real time analytics and
streaming data to analyze the flow and to evaluate it using certain tools and techniques. This is one of the greatest challenge that is acting as a key
barrier in widespread adoption and pervasive use of the tools fostering for development and progress in this field of study. The real time of the big
data analytics would require some of the unique features and special computing powers and potentials (Gantz, 2012). Tools have to made specially
advanced so as to incorporate process terms in real time (Chen, 2012). Every business oriented organization should be transformed into information
centric (Kaisler, 2013) to focus upon the real time data analysis in terms of both input and output. However, there are some of the risks associated with
adoption of big data for the

I.Introduction
A.Audience Participation
1.How many of you see poverty and hunger as a problem in the world? How many of you think that you cannot possibly help solve this problem?
B.Introduce self and topic
1.According to an article written by Jason M. Breslow, as of 2011, children had the highestpoverty level with over 16 million children living in poverty.
That is just in the United States. Imagine the number of children living in poverty in the entire world.
2.My name is Alice and I will present to you the satirical styles of Jonathan Swift and explain why "A Modest Proposal" will lead people in the right
direction to help those in poverty.
3.Before I continue, here is the definition of...show more content...
Most women decided to get abortions because they could not afford to take of care a child.
a.It is calculated that about 120,000 children are born to poor parents every year (Swift 763). The price of nursing for one year is two shillings. That
comes out to about 240,000 shillings every year that will be given to the breeders. Since the women will be getting money for their infants, getting an
abortion will be like burning money.
2.Another advantage of selling children to the wealthy is that it will make marriages better.
a.Swift writes that men will begin to appreciate their wives while they are with child as much as they appreciate "their cows in cattle" (Swift 766).
He also believes men will stop beating, kicking, and using other acts of domestic violence towards their wives because they will be terrified of the
possibility of a miscarriage.
C.Counterargument
1.An opposing argument that can be raised is the idea that "the number of people will be thereby much lessened in the kingdom" (Swift 767). This
argument suggests that if the children keep getting eaten, there will be less people to reproduce more children.
a.Swift breaks down the number of children born per year. He calculated that of the 120,000 poor children, 20,000 should be reserved for breeding
purposes and Вј of that amount should be males. So one male can serve four female breeders. The rest of the 100,000 can be offered for sale at one

Guidelines On Writing A Research Proposal

  • 1. Guidelines on Writing a Research Proposal Guidelines on writing a research proposal Introduction This is a guide to writing M.A. research proposals. The same principles apply to dissertation proposals and to proposals to most funding agencies. It includes a model outline, but advisor, committee and funding agency expectations vary and your proposal will be a variation on this basic theme. Use these guidelines as a point of departure for discussions with your advisor. They may serve as a straw–man against which to build your understanding of both your project and of proposal writing. For USM students, the same rules apply as for proposals everywhere in the world. Proposal Writing Proposal writing is important to your pursuit of a graduate degree. The proposal specifies what...show more content... One problem with this type of research is that you might find the perfect succinct answer to your question on the night before (or after) you turn in the final draft ––– in someone else's work. This certainly can knock the wind out of your sails. (But note that even a straight–ahead science thesis can have the problem of late in the game discovering that the work you have done or are doing has already been done, this is where familiarity with the relevant literature by both yourself and your committee members is important.) A Couple of Models for Proposals A Two Page (Preliminary Proposal) Model Here is a model for a very brief (maybe five paragraph) proposal that you might use to interest faculty in sitting on your committee. People who are not yet hooked may especially appreciate its brevity.
  • 2. In the first paragraph, the first sentence identifies the general topic area. The second sentence gives the research question, and the third sentence establishes its significance. The next couple of paragraphs gives the larger historical perspective on the topic. Essentially list the major schools of thought on the topic and very briefly review the literature in the area with its major findings. Who has written on the topic and what have they found? Allocate about a sentence per important person or finding. Include any preliminary Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Guidelines for Project Proposals Guidelines for Project Proposals* A technical proposal, often called a "Statement of Work," is a persuasive document. Its objectives are to 1. Identify what work is to be done 2. Explain why this work needs to be done 3. Persuade the reader that the proposers (you) are qualified for the work, have a plausible management plan and technical approach, and have the resources needed to complete the task within the stated time and cost constraints. What makes a good proposal? One attribute is appearance. A strong proposal has an attractive, professional, inviting appearance. In addition, the information should easy to access. A second attribute is substance. A strong proposal has a well –organized plan of attack. A strong proposal also has ...show more content... The purpose of this section is to present the process by which you will arrive at the final answer. This section answers the following questions: 2 1) What are the steps in the design process? (Describe and use the nine–step model from Chapter 1 of Hyman's text) 2) What are the benefits and advantages of employing a structured approach to design? 3) How will you generate solution concepts? 4) How will you analyze the performance of your solution? 5) How will you decide on the best alternative? Specific recommendations for this section include the following: a. First, describe your overall design process in general terms. A one–page synopsis of Chapter 1 in the Hyman text would be appropriate here. b. Provide at least three possible solution alternatives and document your methodology to choose the best alternative. Include illustrations such as Figure 1. Try to be as inclusive and creative as possible with your ideas. Strive to achieve at least one non–conventional or "out of the box" alternative. c. List and describe all the analytical, or computational tools you will employ to analyze your design, such as ProEngineerВ®, SolidWorksВ®, MathCAD, and MATLAB. d. List and detail all the experimental procedures you will use to test your design concepts. e. Evaluate your alternatives based on how well they satisfy the design specifications. Explain the selection criteria by which you will evaluate design Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Outline Of A Proposal Outline Memo Date: April 10, 2015 To: Amanda Rico, Instructor: English 210 Section 581 From: Jared Glenn Subject: MWP 2 Outline of Report Completion Purpose The purpose of this memo is to provide an outline of the topics I plan to conduct further research on and compile that research in a formalized report over the specifics of those topics. The final result will be a proposed program, backed with modern research sourcing, ready for completion. Introduction In reference to my last memo, I discussed plans to make alterations to Francis Hall, a newly renovated building on the Texas A&M Campus for the Construction Science Department and student. Specifically, the first task is survey to compile major courses of action, followed by compiling a proposal in conjunction with a general contractor for consideration by the Board of Regents. The original renovation had a budget of 5 million dollars, which included classrooms, a computer lab, student lounge, lavatories, and staff offices. The renovation is suitable for the current status of Construction Science; however the growing program will soon outgrow the building. For these reasons, I am writing a follow up memo of the topics to be included in my upcoming researched recommendation report. Tasks to be Researched With approval to conduct research on my proposed tasks, I will begin by restating each task from the original memo, followed by the subtasks I will research for each main task. Main Task 1. Research student opinion, and popular Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay On My Modest Proposal My objectives were to get ideas and tips for my PhD proposal. In addition, it was the first time that I was presenting my proposal research in a poster. I would like to see how I would go and to hear questions about it from others than my advisor. I think that division by year was great because the talks were very focused in our needs. I could not be more fortunate by having that experience very close to finish my proposal. The conference presented many opportunities to expand my network. Personally, I shared many experiences over the lunch tables. It was so great to met girls with great expertise in their areas. Many does not seem to be aware before, how brave they are. That is why the conference is so important. We saw...show more content... I just realized that in a "run" for to proves ourselves in research, sometimes we ended up not knowing people close to us. In addition, we had fun. The party was awesome and it was very nice to hang out with my own cohort at night, outside the hotel, for a walk on the sidewalk, or going to Coronado Beach after ending the conference on Saturday. As a 3rd year student, I was in the verge to finish my proposal. In this sense, the conference exceed my expectations. I review all my text and approach and it helped me a lot. I made ma dissertation more clear and concise. Due to the insights, I re–though all my strategy to conduct the research. It was awesome to talk with Prof Dilma da Silva, because she gave me ideas to my academic career. She also gave me suggestions and examples that can help me to deal with a family issue. That matter is related to my soon and, of course, he is my best project. Therefore that issue is totally dear to my heart and I think that only a woman with life experience and outstanding career could give me so broad understating of that issue and ideas how to deal Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Outline Of Proposed Proposal For A Proposal Introduction The introduction of the proposal should be one complete page long and will most likely be divided into two paragraphs. Notice that the section headings (Table of Contents, Abstract, Introduction, etc.) are still formatted in Times New Roman, 12 point font. Titles, cover pages, and section headings do not need to be in oversized font, but these may be bolded or underlined to create a separation between the heading and the text. Also, notice that the section heading appears on the first line and the text begins on the second line (extra space and/or skipped lines should not be present). The introduction will give more details about the problem that the proposal solution will address. While the problem was identified in the letter of transmittal and the abstract of the proposal, this section will allow for more details to be identified about the exact problem. The reader should have a complete understanding of exactly what led the author to write this proposal. This will be the only place that the problem will be discussed in detail and may include data or statistics related to the problem. Ideally, this portion of the proposal should not include any figures, tables, or illustrations. Instead, those can be utilized in the body of the proposal to explain the solution plan and benefits. The second paragraph of the introduction can discuss the purpose of the proposal (the solution and request). This should briefly introduce or outline what the proposal suggests as Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. The Proposal Essay Anton Checkov's The Proposal, is a perfect example of the use of literary devices in an effort to create dramatic conflict. The well–meaning characters create massive tension with one another over a simple and avoidable misunderstanding. Checkov's plot and dialogue turn what should have been a joyous occasion into a full–fledged argument about the land rights of two neighboring families. Additionally, Checkov uses stage direction to bring out the anger and frustration of the three characters. Checkov's one–act play exemplifies the interaction of different literary devices when creating dramatic tension in a play. In the beginning of the play Lumov, Chubocov's neighbor, enters his neighbor's home to ask him for permission to marry his daughter. At first, Chubocov is afraid that his neighbor has come to borrow money when, in an aside he states, "He's come to borrow money! Shan't give him any!" The stage direction here may influence the audience to believe that Chubocov is inconvenienced by the presence of his neighbor, which will be important later on in the play. Subsequently, Lomov reveals his true intentions when he says, "The fact is, I've come to ask the hand of your daughter, Natalya Stepanovna, in marriage." Lumov is clearly elated by the idea and...show more content... During his would–be proposal, he casually referenced a plot of land, that the two families share, as his own, which immediately angered Natalya. There is a brilliant use of dramatic irony here as the audience is aware that Lomov was going to propose. Natalya doesn't know his true intentions, which builds up tension for the audience. The argument continues for some time until Lomov is queued by stage direction to grasp his heart from the stress. The audience is fearful for Lomov's life, but the tension is even more intense because the man arrived with honorable Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Circle Sentencing Proposal Essay The following is a research proposal to study the link between recidivism rates and circle sentencing through the examining of circle sentencing with traditional sentencing methods. This is being undertaken due to the lack of significant numbers in existing research. As such, the study questions whether the impact of justice served through indigenous sentencing is any different from justice served through traditional sentencing. This study hypothesises that the rates for recidivism are effectively reduced through indigenous circle sentencing and have lower rates of recidivism than indigenous offender's sentenced through traditional justice. The researcher also hypothesises that circle sentencing using diversionary programs are far more effective in reducing recidivism than those without such programs. This proposal will outline the study's research design and methodological approach, its sampling strategy, methods of collecting data, ethical considerations, and conclusion. For the purpose of this study, a retrospective cohort design will be implemented in the form of longitudinal study. Retrospective cohort studies are a type of observational study. It utilises a retrospective cohort methodological approach. Retrospective cohort studies use data that have already been collected for studies with similar...show more content... The government believed it was the only way to handle economic problems in the countries of Ireland when on hard times, but society was not amused by the way the people of Ireland are dealing with their financial issues by selling their own children like cattle to make money for themselves. In other countries; parents let their older children, even young ones, work in factories or other business industries to raise money to help support the family. Unlike the parents in Ireland who thinks to sell off their kids (healthy ones) as food to wealthy citizens is their only chance of surviving through poverty. Thesis Statement: The use of different satires gives readers a reason to criticize or ridicule on Swift's views on the lives of Irish people. In the 18th century, families in Ireland were so poor they are made to live on the streets without food, money, shoes, or even clothes to wear. So, to make money the children's parents made the rash decision of sacrificing them to settle their own financial problems in a humorous but grotesque way. Main Idea I: Satire is mainly used in stories/novels to humor, or exaggerate readers so they could criticize a character's stupidity. A) During this period, many people of Ireland are suffering from poverty, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Research proposal outline The influence of environmental corporate social responsibility on profitability Central focus This research proposal will contain details on how environmental corporate social responsibility affects a firm's profitability. The central question is how does environmental awareness affect a firm's financial gains? This is a worthwhile question to pursue due to the emerging trend in positive consumerism (Harrison, 2005) as well as the perceived business benefits of CSR. This work will be based on a theoretical framework of sustainability and specifically that of corporate social responsibility (CSR).The work of Porter and Kramer (2003) indicated that businesses can indeed benefit immensely by engaging in CSR activities. These must be done while at the same time ensuring that the business remains profitable. As Carroll (1983, p. 608), CSR involves the conduct and behavior of a given business in a manner that is law abiding, economically viable, ethical and yet socially supportive. Eco–efficiency should therefore be one of the ways in which businesses can offer goods and services in a way that can improve the quality of life so as to make the clients satisfied (Elkington,1997,p.,78). I will therefore be engaging this topic from the point of view of environmental awareness, eco–efficiency and environmental corporate social responsibility and their impact on the image and profitability of companies. Key research questions Does environmental Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Group Treatment Proposal Essay By encouraging adolescents to become more social in expressing their experiences, the members will naturally form a relationship. At times, trust can develop, which promotes a sense of belonging among the members and allow indirect identification with an understanding of each other's situation. Clients with PTSD, especially in the early stage, experience anxiety, or recurrence of a dangerous event in which they lived through. Thus, partaking in a group treatment where others, not only the therapist, can understand there's thoughts and emotions and then, rationalize together because they too have experienced a dangerous event and are now, also, seeking ways to deal with similar symptoms will enhance individuals' mental progress. In other words,...show more content... In doing so, normalization, which is the "removal of stigma from problems seen as socially unacceptable by larger society" (), become a critical advantage. To empower members, the established supportive environment will provide an alternative view that opposes how people with PTSD are typically disenfranchised in our society. Through observing each other anxiety, inability to cop or function, members can collectively reduce elements that emphasize difference and develop social participation in their community, family or personal relationships. An example of "normalizing" PTSD behaviors is the group acknowledging everyday related circumstance and problems, the leaders educating members about PTSD and how to manage their symptoms. By understanding how PTSD affects them and then learning to use specific tools to help manage their symptoms, each member will be able to gain control over their impulse to "fight or flee" and begin to engage things that they have been avoiding (i.e., crowds). The group will stand as a noncompetitive, age–appropriate social activity, in which the teens can discuss differences between them and others and then, working to develop healthy skills with peers rather than focusing solely on a change or a need to "fit Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Aresearch proposal considers your overall topic ideas, your research question, your research process, and your sources and scaffolds what the next steps will be for the project. There are similarities and differences between writing a funding proposal and a research proposal. A research proposal is most often written by scholars seeking grant funding for a research project or it's the first step in getting approval to write a doctoral dissertation. Even if this is just a course assignment, the introduction is the initial pitch of an idea or a thorough examination of the significance of a research problem. After reading the introduction, readers should not only understand what is being proposed. Most proposals do not include an abstract before the introduction. Background and Significance, this section can be melded into your introduction or you can create a separate section to help with the organization and narrative flow of your proposal. This is where you explain the context of your proposal and describe in detail why it's important. Approach writing this section with the thought that you can't assume your readers will know as much about the research problem as you do. Note Get more content on HelpWriting.net

How many of you think that you cannot possibly help solve this problem? B.Introduce self and topic 1.According to an article written by Jason M. Breslow, as of 2011, children had the highestpoverty level with over 16 million children living in poverty. That is just in the United States. Imagine the number of children living in poverty in the entire world. 2.My name is Alice and I will present to you the satirical styles of Jonathan Swift and explain why "A Modest Proposal" will lead people in the right direction to help those in poverty. 3.Before I continue, here is the definition of...show more content... Most women decided to get abortions because they could not afford to take of care a child. a.It is calculated that about 120,000 children are born to poor parents every year (Swift 763). The price of nursing for one year is two shillings. That comes out to about 240,000 shillings every year that will be given to the breeders. Since the women will be getting money for their infants, getting an abortion will be like burning money. 2.Another advantage of selling children to the wealthy is that it will make marriages better. a.Swift writes that men will begin to appreciate their wives while they are with child as much as they appreciate "their cows in cattle" (Swift 766). He also believes men will stop beating, kicking, and using other acts of domestic violence towards their wives because they will be terrified of the possibility of a miscarriage. C.Counterargument 1.An opposing argument that can be raised is the idea that "the number of people will be thereby much lessened in the kingdom" (Swift 767). This argument suggests that if the children keep getting eaten, there will be less people to reproduce more children. a.Swift breaks down the number of children born per year. He calculated that of the 120,000 poor children, 20,000 should be reserved for breeding purposes and Вј of that amount should be males. So one male can serve four female breeders. The rest of the 100,000 can be offered for sale at one
