Essay On The Time I Learned Something New
The Time I Learned Something New
Learning new things can be a little scary for some of us Because of the fact that if I mess up, people that know how to do it would laugh at me and I
would be extremely embarrassed. For example, when I learned how to drive, at first I wanted to teach myself alone, then I had complications.
When I was little my parents would always drive me to the places I wanted and had to go. For example, they would drive me to school, to the store,
and sometimes when I would behave well they would take me to the park. However, one day I got the curiosity to drive and I thought that it would be
easy to do it ,so I decided to teach myself. One sunny, boring, and hot day of summer, the air conditioner was not working in my...show more content...
Learning how to drive was a turning point in my life, because I became more mature and more responsible for my actions and my belongings. This
lead to win my parents trust and they helped me to buy my first car,It was a Mitsubishi Eclipse color black. This car was only two doors, it could fit
five persons, but we would always put in seven people. The car wasn't the best car,but I felt like the king of the world when I my dad gave me the
keys to it. Having my own car also lead to many adventures with my friends. For example, One day of summer vacation, me and my friends went to
the beach by ourselves, of course I was driving. We got on the road at nine in the morning, I was a nervous because I had to take the expressway for
the first time in my life; therefore I was afraid of crashing and getting in a severe accident with my friends. I was surprised of my perfect driving
when we got to the beach, and in a tremendously short amount of time. When we arrived, there was plenty of traffic, so we decided to leave my car
parked and we started walking. Later, we were extremely hungry ,so we decided to go eat and after that we went back home.
In addition, thanks that I learned how to drive, I could take anybody, including family and friends, to the hospital for emergency whenever they
needed to. For example, last month I was at my friends house for a sleepover. My friend called Pablo (the owner of the

I used to be a stubborn and reckless child. I was always 'that guy' that was so different from the rest of the children. In life people need to be unique
and stay away from conformity. I had problems with my school education and I felt unceasingly weaker than my classmates in one certain subject.
The subject I had problems with was something all my other classmates excelled in. The subject I had a hard time with was math. I was always
afraid to ask my math teacher questions because I did not want to be the laughing stock of the class. I felt like if I had asked my math...show more

In the end it was all up to me. Only I could change my fate and no one else could help me out. I thought once that it was hopeless for me, but I
decided not to give up hope. I knew that my job was to somehow see what exactly my problem in math was. I kept on solving and practicing math
problems for hours each day trying to understand where I made my critical mistake. Little by little, I started to see where I kept on making mistakes.
I began noticing that even one subtle mistake could change the whole entire answer. In order to get a correct answer in math questions there literally
had to be no mistake at all. I started to realize how careless my mistakes were. I was too reckless when solving math questions. I decided to slowly
take my time practicing math problems. "Don't waste your time striving for perfection; instead, strive for excellence–doing your best". That is a
famous quote that was said by Lawrence Oliver. I was listening to a lecture during marketing class and I saw a poster with the Lawrence Oliver quote
on it that taught me a life lesson about staying away from perfection and striving for excellence. My expectations for

Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned About Rice
I learned about Rice through a mailing flyer, well my mom did at least. I remember coming home, my mom holding the fly er in hand, as I shimmied
my way in the door, and her pleading, "This is your school". The flyer wasn't very information based, merely similar to a postcard but it evoked a
sensational feeling. Later that day I explored the website to find information on: the academic programs, on–campus living, the track and field program,
and the many opportunities Rice has to offer. I was already motivated to apply from what I learned through the website and flyers, but then I also
visited on Discovering Rice Day in September and I was consumed. Living a day as a Rice student, or at least a portion of one, was eye opening, the

Personal Narrative: A Lessons Learned
A Lesson Well Learned I hate camp. I hate bonding. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. Why do I have to go? It's stupid anyways. I thought this camp was
easy, but as I got ready to leave for camp that morning, I finally admitted that I was wrong. "Let's go!" My mom screams to me at the top of her
lungs. "I can't be late for work." "I'm coming!" 'I can not deal with her,' I thought as I rolled my eyes at the thought of her. We had a fight the night
before because I of...well... I don't really know why. Getting on the bus was the best part of the day, but not sitting with my friends made it horrible.
My popular friends, Logan and Jamie, sat with the prettiest girl, Gwen. As I sat down, she waved me to the back of the bus. I started to get up,...show

fans of me right this second," I said well glaring at Ivy, "but we need to work together. This is what this camp is for..." "Camp: Ruining Kids Lives
Since Day One," someone from the group said as everyone started cracking up. "No," I said. "This camp is about bonding and making new friends.
We have enjoyed this camp because of Counselor Rick, and we should finish with some amazing friendships." "Good job," a random voice behind
the campers said. "That was some nice work Matthew's," the man said as the crowd opened up. "This was just the last assessment for this unit on
bonding and making new friendships. You have shown that you guys have actually learned something, and have applied it into your own lives. For
that, I am proud." I finally saw the man's face as he made his way up to the front, standing in front of me. It was Counselor Rick. He was alive, and I
have never been so happy before in my life. I was in awe at the sight that I thought would never be seen

Lessons Learned In My Life Essay
in the course of our lives we will always have ups and downs, who have taught us many lessons, lessons are what shape us as people, helps us
understand why things happen and give meaning to our lives. one of the places where I have spent most of my life has been the school, which has
brought me many lessons that I will never forget, as what is true friendship, take responsibility and what is falling in love for the first time, I know that
most all of us have gone through these lessons and best of all is that in most cases we will have happen several times during the course of our
lives. the first of the lessons I have learned during these years in school was friendship, you realize how people are and who they really are for you
in good times and bad, just when you need them. As you realize who your friend ?. So begins my first lesson was to know which is my best friend
Valentina, who just two months ago we fulfill our 8 years of friendship, where we have lived a little of everything, many adventures, sadness, fights
but at the end of the day we together at all, even the distance, she lives in mexico and here, there is not a day without talk and talk about us and our
problems, so my first lesson is

Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned From Failure
The lessons I learn from failure always advance me into a later success. There has been frequent incidents or occasions in my life where I experienced
failures. My past overall has been crammed with failures. During these periods, I continued to force myself into achievement. You must, as you admit
the mistakes and you proceed forward, omitting the key is you need to achieve greater and comprehend the faults.
I have devoted myself over and over repeatedly, observing my family failures and my own. I have continued to watch my older sister make poor life
decisions with the people she dates, her drug habits, and the lack of knowledge she denies herself. With this repeating incident in my life I have
allowed myself to realize the best of the situation, which is that I cannot sustain to allow myself to make poor decisions like her. Although my mother,
my sister, and two of my four brothers have never graduated high school. I will await to the future to the day that I do. I...show more content...
I apprehend the fact that I cannot sustain myself to endure to fail. My failures also have encouraged me to continue to advance in school. When I
first started at school, I loved learning. Towards my middle school years I actually did not hold any motivation, but as time proceeded I actualized
the fact is school is crucial. In the time of my high school years, I have enjoyed school again. I acquire a 3.7 grade point average with many other
achievements. I am now educated on the effects of life. I will know what to do in certain situations. I will receive my Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Certificate (CPR). Another factor is I would love to learn other skills in my future with knowledge. I will not underestimate myself and not allow
myself to achieve greatness. I will not allow myself to be plummeted down my missteps and misfortunes. I will work normally with great and consistent
effort. I will constantly endure accomplishments for

Where do I go when I don't know where to start? How can I enlighten you the reader, about my journey through the dark? I guess I'll start by telling
you about myself. I have gained a lot of wisdom in 23 years of my life, but I've never really shared my life story with anyone until now. Do I start
with my failing moments, or do I start with my most up–rising moments? What about my relationship with my mother or the relationship with my
fiance and kids? I don't want to make this a regular story about my best birthday celebration or the first car I bought, I want to tell you about the
grittiness of my life. I don't see myself as an average human, maybe it's my zodiac sign Aquarius that makes me overthink about myself as a person. I'd
like to tell you about my family. To start off with, I'm a young Hispanic man raised by a single mother of two boys who grew up in a decent

I needed to think outside the box and realize what is important in life is making the right choices. Making good choices opens my life up to
opportunities such as becoming an engineer. Until I get my high school diploma from YouthBuild, my opportunities to make money are limited. I
may be poor in material items, but I'm rich in my mind and heart. YouthBuild is also going to help me learn the construction trade, which will help
me earn an income and pay for college. My Mom is very happy with my choices and she is looking forward to me obtaining my high school
diploma. She is going to throw my a party when I complete the YouthBuild program. So what I've learned, it that it doesn't matter what Zodiac sign I
am, what matters is that I am moving forward with my life. My Mom is a role model for me and I hope after receiving my high school diploma and
college degree that my daughters will consider me a role model

I walked down the concrete road singing one of my songs that I wrote recently about boys and trust. I didn't know anything about this topic, but I
knew that I loved to perform and nothing was going to stop me from doing so. When I sung I often imagined myself as one of the girls from the hit
movie Cheetah girls. Today I was Adrienne Bailon, a sassy chick from Cheetah girls who often brought the group together. Tomorrow I would
possibly be Raven, the one who left the group. Every day I had a plan on who I was going to be and what I was going to sing. I would wake up
every morning ready to start my daily routine of being one of the hit singers with a famous boyfriend who supported her. Around this time, I was 8

my goals? If so how did you achieve them and if not what stopped you? To partially...show more content...
Ninth grade was the year I joined the dance auxiliary at my school and I loved it because I was performing for hundreds of people in parades and
football games. The captain of the dance auxiliary recently told us that she wanted to become an actress. This made me doubt myself because I
compared her to me. She was funny, outgoing, smart, and caring. Meanwhile, I was funny as well but not as smart and shy. This comparison was
the breaking point of me no longer wanting to become an actress. I felt that she was capable of following her dreams and I wasn't because of the
different qualities that we both possessed. Now that I look back on the decision I made I wonder how far would I have gone in this dream and what
would have pushed me to make it come true. Recently, I chose a new career and this one is going to stick with me. My goal is to not let statistics and
other people intimidate me because I have the determination to push myself in a direction that I need to

In the essays that we have read this semester, the authors were effective in helping their readers to learn something from the authors various subject
matters, which could be used in the readers' own lives. I have chosen four essays that I have read this term from which I have learned from. The four
essays I decided on are: "Shooting an Elephant" by George Orwell, "Sex, Lies, and Conversation" by Deborah Tannen, "What Really Scares Us" by
David Ropeik, and "Delusions of Grandeur" by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. In George Orwell's "Shooting an Elephant" Orwell writes of his experience in
British ruled India in the early Twentieth Century. At the time, he was a young, inexperienced soldier stationed

Women don't mind another point of view as long as it is in the form of a suggestion or inquiry rather than as a direct challenge. All these differences in
this essay begin to clarify why men and women have such different expectations of communication. Tannen suggests, once men and women understand
these differences, improvement in communication will come naturally. In the future one can use the information in this essay to recognize his or her
differences when it comes to conversation and learn to alter their behavior to improve communication with their partner, rather than right and wrong
which can lead to breaking up or divorce. In David Ropeik's "What Really Scares Us", Ropeik argues that Humans perceive risk through emotions
rather than reasoning even though we obtain a highly advanced brain which gives us the power to reason. Ropeik says that the reason humans
perceive risk emotionally before reasoning is because our brains are biologically built to fear first and think second. The brain has two parts that are
built mainly for reasoning and emotion. One of these parts is called the prefrontal cortex, behind your forehead, which is the area where we do a lot of
our reasoning and thinking. The other part, which is the brain's key emotion center, is the amygdala. Because of the way the brain is built, information
gets to the amygdale first before getting to the prefrontal cortex. In that case a person would react

Learning the Hard Way– Personal Narrative
We live our lives working in order to achieve peace within ourselves, a sense of accomplishment and happiness. The experiences and relationships
that we develop along the way help to make us who we are. Weather they are good or bad, we like to believe that knowledge is gained from the
people we meet and the decisions made. I have heard it said that it is suppose to be the journey that is truly important in our lives, not the destination.
My journey really begins in the summer of 2003, when I met a man named Rev. Bob Rowland. For me it was the end of one chapter and the beginning
of another.
Before that I had, much like many other people, made some bad...show more content...
My parents never spoke of God, religion or the church, so I believed that it was a waste of time seeing that it would never benefit me in any way. So
why then did I bother? Well, because I was in fear for my soul and sanity and the hole was deep and I had dug it. I was at that analogous fork in the
road and needed to make a decision, so I chose.
I was a complete stranger to Rev. Rowland's and I realize that, being a man of the cloth, he may have felt a certain obligation to speak with me. But,
he did more than that, he listened without prejudice and answered the many questions that I had for him. He said that I needed to forgive myself and
that the first thing I had to do was to confess everything I ever did wrong. Although I had tears running down my face, at that point, I started to laugh,
because the thought of confessing my sins seemed like the impossible task. Now I'm not saying that I murdered anyone, but you have to keep in mind
that I had never attended church before, confession wasn't something I had ever had to deal with. So after 23 years, there were a few skeletons in my
closet. At which point, I asked him if I could go home and write them down first. In the following weeks he talked with me, over whelmed me with
books, information, and shared his own personal battles. He was the one who made me

Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school... right? Well I had to go
to summer school, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine
as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up
blood. My father usually doesn't make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn't feel good. When dad
finally went to the doctors, they told him it was a virus of some sort. My parents really didn't go into detail about the visit. My father then went...show

It turned out to be the wrong specialist. My grandmother told one of her friends (who happened to be a nurse), and she suggested my dad go to

tests, the doctors found three blood clots in my father's body. Dad had a clot in both of his lungs, and one in his leg. The worst was yet to come. The
doctors were not pleased with his blood results. He had a very low white blood cell count, and his platelet levels were low as well. They needed to find
the cause. One doctor had an idea. The doctors did what is called a bone marrow extract, this is when they drill a needle into your hip, through the
bone, and take out bone marrow. The results were not something I wanted to hear. I was at my grandmother's house at the time when my father
called. The doctors found cancer, Acute Leukemia, and it was traveling through my father's entire blood stream. The weeks that followed were very
difficult. My mother ended up changing her hours at work so she could visit my father in the hospital. On the weekends my mom would spend from
Friday when she got home from work, to Sunday night in the hospital. I have an older brother and a younger brother; they are lazy most of the time,

I chose this quote because it sums up a lesson I learned in high school. When I moved from Connecticut to Ohio after my freshman year, I had
trouble transitioning to a new school and state. I struggled in school for the first time in my life. My grades were not what I had hoped or expected
them to be during my first quarter sophomore year, and it was not easy for me to get over that. I worked harder than ever to get the grades I wanted,
and my hard work paid off. The rest of my sophomore year was much better than the first quarter, but I wasn't completely satisfied with the outcome of
some of my classes. I continued to work hard during my junior year, and throughout that year, my grades were consistent with my hopes. They were

The ten years I was lucky enough to have with you many valuable lessons were learned the from getting up early to help you with everything
whether it be repairing a roof, changing truck tires, or simply planting a garden. We would always work our ass off to help anyone in need. There

times shaped me into who I am; I learned a lot following his every footstep, watching carefully, and asking lots of question. Thankful for the ten years
I had with you and the nine you have kept me safe while I raised hell and stood up for what I believed in.

The Lesson I Learned My Lesson
Here is a time where I've learned my lesson. I was like a mini Dora the Explorer except, I was a brat. I was so picky, such a princess, I got myself in
trouble every day, I'd make everyone so stressed out. I was your worst nightmare disguised as Dora the Explorer. I usually would like things my
way, and my way only. I felt if I was the who was always right and I was the smartmouth. I was the definition of a brat. So, let me give background
on how annoying I was. Sometimes I'd bark. I had this habit of barking under furniture. For example, let's take a dining table, a fort, chairs, and
even in cabinets. It was a very odd habit but it was how I got attention and showed my anger. I would bark as loud as my voice can roar. And every
single time I did, was every single time I got hung upside down and swung. My brother was in charge of teaching me lessons, and lessons I didn't
want to receive. Since I did actions he didn't want me to do and that I didn't like, he did the same. And he would do this everyday because I would
constantly irritate him. It seemed as if I could never care anymore, because I actually had no idea why he would teach me lessons. Like I said, I
felt if I was always right and things had to go my way. If they didn't I'd throw temper tantrums. It was bad. I would throw things. I would hurt
myself, try to hurt the opposing person who disagreed with my way. I use to barely eat, it was unhealthy. I usually ate an orange and a bag of chips a
day. I was force fed

There are so many events that change one's life that it is rather difficult to try and decipher which of those events are most important. Each event
changes a different aspect of your life, molding how one's personality turns out. One of these events occurred when I was about twelve years old and
I attempted to steal from a Six Flags amusement park. My reasoning for stealing wasn't that I didn't have the money, or even that I wanted what I stole
all that badly, it was that all of my friends had stolen something earlier that day and didn't get caught. After getting caught I resolved, because the
consequences are just not worth it, never to steal or give into peer pressure again.
It all began when a couple of friends...show more content...
Then out of nowhere, the ride releases and starts roaring around the track. As always the ride ended far too soon and we set off for the next ride,
"Twister Two."
On the way to "Twister Two" one of my friends suddenly had a candy bar in his possession. When he was asked how he got it, he simply replied, "I
stole it." It was so amazing to me that he could do that, and act as if it was no big deal. To me stealing would be a thing that needed to be planned
and executed, but to him it was just another place that he ripped off. He explained that it is easy to do, "you just grab what you want, wait 'til no
one's looking, and then walk out." This is when I first began pondering the idea of stealing. I had never stole before because I knew it was against my
morals, but there was that rebel in me that wanted to try it. He, on the other hand, had probably stolen so many times that he could do it with his eyes
closed, and he had never been caught. Lucky him.
While in line for the next ride, I began debating whether or not I should try to steal something before the end of the day. That thought was
immediately shook of by the rattle of the roller coaster that we were standing under. It always looked so unstable, with the entire thing made of wood
instead of metal, and the whole track would wobble and click when the cart flew by. That was another ride that we would always need to get to early
because the line would grow to

A life lesson that I have learned over the course of my high school years, is you need to choose wisely which crowd of people to hang around. I've
learned that not everyone is your friend, even if they tell you they are. There are people out there who will claim to be your friend, and will stab you
in the back when you least expect it.
This lesson has stuck with me over the past years, because I lost a lot of people who claimed to be my friend back in middle school. As soon as high
school came around, I ended up losing a bunch of people in my freshman year, and it hurt. There was really nothing I could do about it, if someone
doesn't want to be your friend, then you can't force them to be. My mistake was using the "you promised to stay" card

Module four was all about drafting my paper and writing down all the information I gathered form the sources I searched. The documents in the
module were very beneficial, I learned how to write more efficient paragraphs, and to write in an academic style. And so in my paper I tried to avoid
absolutes, be clear and brief in writing down my ideas and thoughts. Also, I learned how to write in a more logic manner. Some documents taught me
how to be more integrated in my writings, how to avoid plagiarism, by applying quotes, or paraphrasing, and making sure to cite the source at the end.
I believe I did well in writing my paper.

Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned From Failure
Many lessons can be learned from failure. Many people have failed once in their life which has affected them but also has shaped them into the
people they are today. One time I failed was sophomore year math class, more specifically Algebra 2. Now I personally have struggled with math
my entire life, but of course, just as any student who struggles with something I just needed help. The first test of the year I ended up failing it
miserable. Two weeks in ,and I was already almost failing the class so I went home, told my family what happened, and they told me that in order

for longer periods of time until I knew all the material that would be on the test. Then test day came and with one hundred percent confidence, I
took the test. I felt very sure that all the hard work I put into the preparing for this exam would pay off. A few days later I got my test back and saw
that I received an A on my test along with a smiley face from my teacher. This made me proud of everything that I have done in order to receive
this grade even if it was only one test. All the hard work payed off because my teacher, family, and myself where all proud of me for my hard work.
I was ecstatic that I finally got a good grade in the class, but I knew that one good grade on a test wasn't going to give me a good grade in the class
so I continued my studies. I went in for help almost every day sophomore whether it was actually to get help or just talk to the teacher about math. At
times I still struggled whether it was because I didn't understand the chapter or just because I slacked off and didn't work hard even to try and
understand it. This was a big quarter

Essay On The Time I Learned Something New

  • 1. Essay On The Time I Learned Something New The Time I Learned Something New Learning new things can be a little scary for some of us Because of the fact that if I mess up, people that know how to do it would laugh at me and I would be extremely embarrassed. For example, when I learned how to drive, at first I wanted to teach myself alone, then I had complications. When I was little my parents would always drive me to the places I wanted and had to go. For example, they would drive me to school, to the store, and sometimes when I would behave well they would take me to the park. However, one day I got the curiosity to drive and I thought that it would be easy to do it ,so I decided to teach myself. One sunny, boring, and hot day of summer, the air conditioner was not working in my...show more content... Learning how to drive was a turning point in my life, because I became more mature and more responsible for my actions and my belongings. This lead to win my parents trust and they helped me to buy my first car,It was a Mitsubishi Eclipse color black. This car was only two doors, it could fit five persons, but we would always put in seven people. The car wasn't the best car,but I felt like the king of the world when I my dad gave me the keys to it. Having my own car also lead to many adventures with my friends. For example, One day of summer vacation, me and my friends went to the beach by ourselves, of course I was driving. We got on the road at nine in the morning, I was a nervous because I had to take the expressway for the first time in my life; therefore I was afraid of crashing and getting in a severe accident with my friends. I was surprised of my perfect driving when we got to the beach, and in a tremendously short amount of time. When we arrived, there was plenty of traffic, so we decided to leave my car parked and we started walking. Later, we were extremely hungry ,so we decided to go eat and after that we went back home. In addition, thanks that I learned how to drive, I could take anybody, including family and friends, to the hospital for emergency whenever they needed to. For example, last month I was at my friends house for a sleepover. My friend called Pablo (the owner of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned From Failure Yousef Eldosh The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience? 500 words I used to be a stubborn and reckless child. I was always 'that guy' that was so different from the rest of the children. In life people need to be unique and stay away from conformity. I had problems with my school education and I felt unceasingly weaker than my classmates in one certain subject. The subject I had problems with was something all my other classmates excelled in. The subject I had a hard time with was math. I was always afraid to ask my math teacher questions because I did not want to be the laughing stock of the class. I felt like if I had asked my math...show more content... In the end it was all up to me. Only I could change my fate and no one else could help me out. I thought once that it was hopeless for me, but I decided not to give up hope. I knew that my job was to somehow see what exactly my problem in math was. I kept on solving and practicing math problems for hours each day trying to understand where I made my critical mistake. Little by little, I started to see where I kept on making mistakes. I began noticing that even one subtle mistake could change the whole entire answer. In order to get a correct answer in math questions there literally had to be no mistake at all. I started to realize how careless my mistakes were. I was too reckless when solving math questions. I decided to slowly take my time practicing math problems. "Don't waste your time striving for perfection; instead, strive for excellence–doing your best". That is a famous quote that was said by Lawrence Oliver. I was listening to a lecture during marketing class and I saw a poster with the Lawrence Oliver quote on it that taught me a life lesson about staying away from perfection and striving for excellence. My expectations for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned About Rice I learned about Rice through a mailing flyer, well my mom did at least. I remember coming home, my mom holding the fly er in hand, as I shimmied my way in the door, and her pleading, "This is your school". The flyer wasn't very information based, merely similar to a postcard but it evoked a sensational feeling. Later that day I explored the website to find information on: the academic programs, on–campus living, the track and field program, and the many opportunities Rice has to offer. I was already motivated to apply from what I learned through the website and flyers, but then I also visited on Discovering Rice Day in September and I was consumed. Living a day as a Rice student, or at least a portion of one, was eye opening, the classes are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Narrative: A Lessons Learned A Lesson Well Learned I hate camp. I hate bonding. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. Why do I have to go? It's stupid anyways. I thought this camp was easy, but as I got ready to leave for camp that morning, I finally admitted that I was wrong. "Let's go!" My mom screams to me at the top of her lungs. "I can't be late for work." "I'm coming!" 'I can not deal with her,' I thought as I rolled my eyes at the thought of her. We had a fight the night before because I of...well... I don't really know why. Getting on the bus was the best part of the day, but not sitting with my friends made it horrible. My popular friends, Logan and Jamie, sat with the prettiest girl, Gwen. As I sat down, she waved me to the back of the bus. I started to get up,...show more content... Guys. GUYS!" I screamed so loud I'm pretty sure Canada could hear me all the way from West Virginia. "I know some people are not the biggest fans of me right this second," I said well glaring at Ivy, "but we need to work together. This is what this camp is for..." "Camp: Ruining Kids Lives Since Day One," someone from the group said as everyone started cracking up. "No," I said. "This camp is about bonding and making new friends. We have enjoyed this camp because of Counselor Rick, and we should finish with some amazing friendships." "Good job," a random voice behind the campers said. "That was some nice work Matthew's," the man said as the crowd opened up. "This was just the last assessment for this unit on bonding and making new friendships. You have shown that you guys have actually learned something, and have applied it into your own lives. For that, I am proud." I finally saw the man's face as he made his way up to the front, standing in front of me. It was Counselor Rick. He was alive, and I have never been so happy before in my life. I was in awe at the sight that I thought would never be seen Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Lessons Learned In My Life Essay in the course of our lives we will always have ups and downs, who have taught us many lessons, lessons are what shape us as people, helps us understand why things happen and give meaning to our lives. one of the places where I have spent most of my life has been the school, which has brought me many lessons that I will never forget, as what is true friendship, take responsibility and what is falling in love for the first time, I know that most all of us have gone through these lessons and best of all is that in most cases we will have happen several times during the course of our lives. the first of the lessons I have learned during these years in school was friendship, you realize how people are and who they really are for you in good times and bad, just when you need them. As you realize who your friend ?. So begins my first lesson was to know which is my best friend Valentina, who just two months ago we fulfill our 8 years of friendship, where we have lived a little of everything, many adventures, sadness, fights but at the end of the day we together at all, even the distance, she lives in mexico and here, there is not a day without talk and talk about us and our problems, so my first lesson is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned From Failure The lessons I learn from failure always advance me into a later success. There has been frequent incidents or occasions in my life where I experienced failures. My past overall has been crammed with failures. During these periods, I continued to force myself into achievement. You must, as you admit the mistakes and you proceed forward, omitting the key is you need to achieve greater and comprehend the faults. I have devoted myself over and over repeatedly, observing my family failures and my own. I have continued to watch my older sister make poor life decisions with the people she dates, her drug habits, and the lack of knowledge she denies herself. With this repeating incident in my life I have allowed myself to realize the best of the situation, which is that I cannot sustain to allow myself to make poor decisions like her. Although my mother, my sister, and two of my four brothers have never graduated high school. I will await to the future to the day that I do. I...show more content... I apprehend the fact that I cannot sustain myself to endure to fail. My failures also have encouraged me to continue to advance in school. When I first started at school, I loved learning. Towards my middle school years I actually did not hold any motivation, but as time proceeded I actualized the fact is school is crucial. In the time of my high school years, I have enjoyed school again. I acquire a 3.7 grade point average with many other achievements. I am now educated on the effects of life. I will know what to do in certain situations. I will receive my Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR). Another factor is I would love to learn other skills in my future with knowledge. I will not underestimate myself and not allow myself to achieve greatness. I will not allow myself to be plummeted down my missteps and misfortunes. I will work normally with great and consistent effort. I will constantly endure accomplishments for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Personal Narrative: Lesson Learned Lesson Learned Where do I go when I don't know where to start? How can I enlighten you the reader, about my journey through the dark? I guess I'll start by telling you about myself. I have gained a lot of wisdom in 23 years of my life, but I've never really shared my life story with anyone until now. Do I start with my failing moments, or do I start with my most up–rising moments? What about my relationship with my mother or the relationship with my fiance and kids? I don't want to make this a regular story about my best birthday celebration or the first car I bought, I want to tell you about the grittiness of my life. I don't see myself as an average human, maybe it's my zodiac sign Aquarius that makes me overthink about myself as a person. I'd like to tell you about my family. To start off with, I'm a young Hispanic man raised by a single mother of two boys who grew up in a decent environment. When I mean decent, I mean that we weren't rich nor were we...show more content... I needed to think outside the box and realize what is important in life is making the right choices. Making good choices opens my life up to opportunities such as becoming an engineer. Until I get my high school diploma from YouthBuild, my opportunities to make money are limited. I may be poor in material items, but I'm rich in my mind and heart. YouthBuild is also going to help me learn the construction trade, which will help me earn an income and pay for college. My Mom is very happy with my choices and she is looking forward to me obtaining my high school diploma. She is going to throw my a party when I complete the YouthBuild program. So what I've learned, it that it doesn't matter what Zodiac sign I am, what matters is that I am moving forward with my life. My Mom is a role model for me and I hope after receiving my high school diploma and college degree that my daughters will consider me a role model Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned Lessons Learned I walked down the concrete road singing one of my songs that I wrote recently about boys and trust. I didn't know anything about this topic, but I knew that I loved to perform and nothing was going to stop me from doing so. When I sung I often imagined myself as one of the girls from the hit movie Cheetah girls. Today I was Adrienne Bailon, a sassy chick from Cheetah girls who often brought the group together. Tomorrow I would possibly be Raven, the one who left the group. Every day I had a plan on who I was going to be and what I was going to sing. I would wake up every morning ready to start my daily routine of being one of the hit singers with a famous boyfriend who supported her. Around this time, I was 8 and I knew nothing about boys or fame, but I did know that I loved to perform. I know the main questions are: What happened? Did I ever achieve my goals? If so how did you achieve them and if not what stopped you? To partially...show more content... Ninth grade was the year I joined the dance auxiliary at my school and I loved it because I was performing for hundreds of people in parades and football games. The captain of the dance auxiliary recently told us that she wanted to become an actress. This made me doubt myself because I compared her to me. She was funny, outgoing, smart, and caring. Meanwhile, I was funny as well but not as smart and shy. This comparison was the breaking point of me no longer wanting to become an actress. I felt that she was capable of following her dreams and I wasn't because of the different qualities that we both possessed. Now that I look back on the decision I made I wonder how far would I have gone in this dream and what would have pushed me to make it come true. Recently, I chose a new career and this one is going to stick with me. My goal is to not let statistics and other people intimidate me because I have the determination to push myself in a direction that I need to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Lessons Learned Jhesson Ynoa Eng11 – 1857 May 10, 2010 In the essays that we have read this semester, the authors were effective in helping their readers to learn something from the authors various subject matters, which could be used in the readers' own lives. I have chosen four essays that I have read this term from which I have learned from. The four essays I decided on are: "Shooting an Elephant" by George Orwell, "Sex, Lies, and Conversation" by Deborah Tannen, "What Really Scares Us" by David Ropeik, and "Delusions of Grandeur" by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. In George Orwell's "Shooting an Elephant" Orwell writes of his experience in British ruled India in the early Twentieth Century. At the time, he was a young, inexperienced soldier stationed ...show more content... Women don't mind another point of view as long as it is in the form of a suggestion or inquiry rather than as a direct challenge. All these differences in this essay begin to clarify why men and women have such different expectations of communication. Tannen suggests, once men and women understand these differences, improvement in communication will come naturally. In the future one can use the information in this essay to recognize his or her differences when it comes to conversation and learn to alter their behavior to improve communication with their partner, rather than right and wrong which can lead to breaking up or divorce. In David Ropeik's "What Really Scares Us", Ropeik argues that Humans perceive risk through emotions rather than reasoning even though we obtain a highly advanced brain which gives us the power to reason. Ropeik says that the reason humans perceive risk emotionally before reasoning is because our brains are biologically built to fear first and think second. The brain has two parts that are built mainly for reasoning and emotion. One of these parts is called the prefrontal cortex, behind your forehead, which is the area where we do a lot of our reasoning and thinking. The other part, which is the brain's key emotion center, is the amygdala. Because of the way the brain is built, information gets to the amygdale first before getting to the prefrontal cortex. In that case a person would react Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Learning the Hard Way– Personal Narrative We live our lives working in order to achieve peace within ourselves, a sense of accomplishment and happiness. The experiences and relationships that we develop along the way help to make us who we are. Weather they are good or bad, we like to believe that knowledge is gained from the people we meet and the decisions made. I have heard it said that it is suppose to be the journey that is truly important in our lives, not the destination. My journey really begins in the summer of 2003, when I met a man named Rev. Well, because I was in fear for my soul and sanity and the hole was deep and I had dug it. I was at that analogous fork in the road and needed to make a decision, so I chose. I was a complete stranger to Rev. Rowland's and I realize that, being a man of the cloth, he may have felt a certain obligation to speak with me. But, he did more than that, he listened without prejudice and answered the many questions that I had for him. He said that I needed to forgive myself and that the first thing I had to do was to confess everything I ever did wrong. Although I had tears running down my face, at that point, I started to laugh, because the thought of confessing my sins seemed like the impossible task. Now I'm not saying that I murdered anyone, but you have to keep in mind that I had never attended church before, confession wasn't something I had ever had to deal with. So after 23 years, there were a few skeletons in my closet. At which point, I asked him if I could go home and write them down first. In the following weeks he talked with me, over whelmed me with books, information, and shared his own personal battles. He was the one who made me Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay on Personal Narrative: A Valuable Lesson Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school... right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn't make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn't feel good. When dad finally went to the doctors, they told him it was a virus of some sort. My parents really didn't go into detail about the visit. My father then went...show more content... It turned out to be the wrong specialist. My grandmother told one of her friends (who happened to be a nurse), and she suggested my dad go to pulmonary specialist. So, my father reluctantly scheduled an appointment at Ellis Hospital. Thank god he did. After a few scans and a few blood tests, the doctors found three blood clots in my father's body. Dad had a clot in both of his lungs, and one in his leg. The worst was yet to come. The doctors were not pleased with his blood results. He had a very low white blood cell count, and his platelet levels were low as well. They needed to find the cause. One doctor had an idea. The doctors did what is called a bone marrow extract, this is when they drill a needle into your hip, through the bone, and take out bone marrow. The results were not something I wanted to hear. I was at my grandmother's house at the time when my father called. The doctors found cancer, Acute Leukemia, and it was traveling through my father's entire blood stream. The weeks that followed were very difficult. My mother ended up changing her hours at work so she could visit my father in the hospital. On the weekends my mom would spend from Friday when she got home from work, to Sunday night in the hospital. I have an older brother and a younger brother; they are lazy most of the time, so the only help I got was from my grandmother. Unfortunately, my older brother wasn't present for three weeks for certain reasons, which left my ten year old Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. I chose this quote because it sums up a lesson I learned in high school. When I moved from Connecticut to Ohio after my freshman year, I had trouble transitioning to a new school and state. I struggled in school for the first time in my life. My grades were not what I had hoped or expected them to be during my first quarter sophomore year, and it was not easy for me to get over that. I worked harder than ever to get the grades I wanted, and my hard work paid off. The rest of my sophomore year was much better than the first quarter, but I wasn't completely satisfied with the outcome of some of my classes. I continued to work hard during my junior year, and throughout that year, my grades were consistent with my hopes. They were the grades I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Personal Narrative: Ten Lessons Learned The ten years I was lucky enough to have with you many valuable lessons were learned the from getting up early to help you with everything whether it be repairing a roof, changing truck tires, or simply planting a garden. We would always work our ass off to help anyone in need. There was work and something to learn. Dad knew best so we always had fun even when it was just making dinner, playing cards, or shooting guns. Those times shaped me into who I am; I learned a lot following his every footstep, watching carefully, and asking lots of question. Thankful for the ten years I had with you and the nine you have kept me safe while I raised hell and stood up for what I believed in. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. The Lesson I Learned My Lesson Here is a time where I've learned my lesson. I was like a mini Dora the Explorer except, I was a brat. I was so picky, such a princess, I got myself in trouble every day, I'd make everyone so stressed out. I was your worst nightmare disguised as Dora the Explorer. I usually would like things my way, and my way only. I felt if I was the who was always right and I was the smartmouth. I was the definition of a brat. So, let me give background on how annoying I was. Sometimes I'd bark. I had this habit of barking under furniture. For example, let's take a dining table, a fort, chairs, and even in cabinets. It was a very odd habit but it was how I got attention and showed my anger. I would bark as loud as my voice can roar. And every single time I did, was every single time I got hung upside down and swung. My brother was in charge of teaching me lessons, and lessons I didn't want to receive. Since I did actions he didn't want me to do and that I didn't like, he did the same. And he would do this everyday because I would constantly irritate him. It seemed as if I could never care anymore, because I actually had no idea why he would teach me lessons. Like I said, I felt if I was always right and things had to go my way. If they didn't I'd throw temper tantrums. It was bad. I would throw things. I would hurt myself, try to hurt the opposing person who disagreed with my way. I use to barely eat, it was unhealthy. I usually ate an orange and a bag of chips a day. I was force fed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Lesson Learned Essay Lesson Learned There are so many events that change one's life that it is rather difficult to try and decipher which of those events are most important. Each event changes a different aspect of your life, molding how one's personality turns out. One of these events occurred when I was about twelve years old and I attempted to steal from a Six Flags amusement park. My reasoning for stealing wasn't that I didn't have the money, or even that I wanted what I stole all that badly, it was that all of my friends had stolen something earlier that day and didn't get caught. After getting caught I resolved, because the consequences are just not worth it, never to steal or give into peer pressure again. It all began when a couple of friends...show more content... Then out of nowhere, the ride releases and starts roaring around the track. As always the ride ended far too soon and we set off for the next ride, "Twister Two." On the way to "Twister Two" one of my friends suddenly had a candy bar in his possession. When he was asked how he got it, he simply replied, "I stole it." It was so amazing to me that he could do that, and act as if it was no big deal. To me stealing would be a thing that needed to be planned and executed, but to him it was just another place that he ripped off. He explained that it is easy to do, "you just grab what you want, wait 'til no one's looking, and then walk out." This is when I first began pondering the idea of stealing. I had never stole before because I knew it was against my morals, but there was that rebel in me that wanted to try it. He, on the other hand, had probably stolen so many times that he could do it with his eyes closed, and he had never been caught. Lucky him. While in line for the next ride, I began debating whether or not I should try to steal something before the end of the day. That thought was immediately shook of by the rattle of the roller coaster that we were standing under. It always looked so unstable, with the entire thing made of wood instead of metal, and the whole track would wobble and click when the cart flew by. That was another ride that we would always need to get to early because the line would grow to

  • 17. A life lesson that I have learned over the course of my high school years, is you need to choose wisely which crowd of people to hang around. I've learned that not everyone is your friend, even if they tell you they are. There are people out there who will claim to be your friend, and will stab you in the back when you least expect it. This lesson has stuck with me over the past years, because I lost a lot of people who claimed to be my friend back in middle school. As soon as high school came around, I ended up losing a bunch of people in my freshman year, and it hurt. There was really nothing I could do about it, if someone doesn't want to be your friend, then you can't force them to be. My mistake was using the "you promised to stay" card Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned In My Writing Module four was all about drafting my paper and writing down all the information I gathered form the sources I searched. The documents in the module were very beneficial, I learned how to write more efficient paragraphs, and to write in an academic style. And so in my paper I tried to avoid absolutes, be clear and brief in writing down my ideas and thoughts. Also, I learned how to write in a more logic manner. Some documents taught me how to be more integrated in my writings, how to avoid plagiarism, by applying quotes, or paraphrasing, and making sure to cite the source at the end. I believe I did well in writing my paper. I had a few challenges revising my paper after looking at the feedback from SmarThinking. SmarThinking was very helpful, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned From Failure Many lessons can be learned from failure. Many people have failed once in their life which has affected them but also has shaped them into the people they are today. One time I failed was sophomore year math class, more specifically Algebra 2. Now I personally have struggled with math my entire life, but of course, just as any student who struggles with something I just needed help. The first test of the year I ended up failing it miserable. Two weeks in ,and I was already almost failing the class so I went home, told my family what happened, and they told me that in order to do well I'm going to have to go in before and after school for help in my class. So the next day I went in to see me math teacher and asked her to help me with some...show more content... Even though it was better than failing, I still knew that it isn't a good grade. So I worked even harder and for the next week and came in for help for longer periods of time until I knew all the material that would be on the test. Then test day came and with one hundred percent confidence, I took the test. I felt very sure that all the hard work I put into the preparing for this exam would pay off. A few days later I got my test back and saw that I received an A on my test along with a smiley face from my teacher. This made me proud of everything that I have done in order to receive this grade even if it was only one test. All the hard work payed off because my teacher, family, and myself where all proud of me for my hard work. I was ecstatic that I finally got a good grade in the class, but I knew that one good grade on a test wasn't going to give me a good grade in the class so I continued my studies. I went in for help almost every day sophomore whether it was actually to get help or just talk to the teacher about math. At times I still struggled whether it was because I didn't understand the chapter or just because I slacked off and didn't work hard even to try and understand it. This was a big quarter Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Personal Narrative: Lessons Learned From Failure The lessons that we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn from the experience? "Ok first day at a brand new school. I can do this. " I told myself. My first couple days were alright, but then it hit, the homework. The first year was rough, I did not have many friends, but the one thing I had was computers. Everyday I would go to the library and use the public computers until my time limit ran out. It was my escape from school. Instead of doing English homework, or math homework, I was on those computers. I felt powerful and that I could do anything with the power of computers. I always knew in the back of my mind that I should be doing homework , but I could never resist the urge to be on the computers. Oh, the things I should have been doing when I could be surfing the web. By the end of the year, I had stopped caring about school and could not wait to run over and jump online. My summer was spent the same exact way. I was wasting my precious time on frivolous things like video games and browsing the long lists of useless websites. Since I had...show more content... I was even more happy when I was asked to help out the high school of tech guys at my school.
