2. What is IDL?
*Devised in mid 1980’s by educators initially designed to help
dyslexic children. However, schools have found success with
many different types of learners and some are using it as a
whole school literacy solution.
*It is a digital platform for pupils to practice phonics,
spelling, punctuation, sentence, reading and typing skills at
a level appropriate to a pupil’s own ability.
*It is an easy to use programme that helps pupils to become
independent learners. It can increase their confidence, self-
esteem and improve their approach to Literacy.
*Research has shown that after 26 hours use of IDL there can
be around a 10 month improvement in reading age and 11
months in spelling age.
