5. Why Visibility in the Workplace Matters
Statistics
- Women only hold about 1/3 of the 5,200 top roles in UK society
- BAME people hold just 4.6% of the UK's most powerful roles - Just 51 of the top 1,097 workplace roles in the UK are held by
BAME people
- In business and finance - BAME people represent 5% (7 out of 155) - This group contains 98 members of the FTSE 100 - Of
these only 2 are led by BAME people, and there are only 5 women
According to Harvey Coleman's book: “Empowering Yourself,
The Organizational Game Revealed”.
Excellent work performance is like getting your foot in the door
– you can’t even start to progress without it…
But overall, performance only contributes 10% towards your
success in climbing the career ladder or growing your
business.
But “Exposure” (AKA – Visibility!) is worth 6x more than your
work performance!

workplace
Being visible is even
more important if you
are from an under-
represented group in
your industry, as
unconscious bias can
stand in your way.
This means you can
increase your
perceived value in the
workplace just by being
more visible!
