2. NARRATIVE
My short film centres around a female protagonist calledAmber. The narrative will be in
chronological order and there are two scenarios which will take place. The idea is to illustrate
how common it is for a minor decision or event to change the course of action, resulting in a
possible huge consequence. The first scenario will show Amber's route home, where she
comes to some traffic lights. As she's waiting to cross, her friend will call out "hey Amber!".The
important choice she makes is staying on her side of the road to walk down slightly to meet
him. Seconds later a car will speed past and her friend will mutter something along the lines
of, "what an idiot".The most significant scene is the second scenario, and it will show her
crossing the same road at an amber light (although her same friend is standing in the same
place, only this time doesn’t see her), and someone will see the same vehicle coming and yell
"it's amber!". She will turn around suddenly to the person who called out and the car will
screech, implying the next event, then the screen will go black.
3. KEY CHARACTERS
My protagonist is going to be a young female who is chirpy and
content but can sometimes be dazed and unaware of her
surroundings . She will have a friend whose house she has just
visited. The two following scenarios shown will only be of her
journey from her house. She will wear cool and casual clothing
to match her personality of being laid back and relaxed, with
one brightly coloured accessory (red bandana) to make her
character stand out among others shown in a scene.
4. WORLD
The mise en scene will be a combination of rural and urban surroundings, and
as there are two scenarios, one will be warm coloured and the other will be
cool coloured, matching the mood and foreshadowing either the bad event.
The first half of the film will be positive with warm tones to enhance the
atmosphere. The second half will be cool toned, and after the accident the
spectators will see exactly the same route from her friend's house but with one
minor difference that changes the next event.
5. STYLE
The genre will be mainly laid back, but with the main
event included, it would be classed as a drama as it will
include tension. The lighting will mainly be warm and
bright and will change for the second scenario. Editing
wise, at the start of the film the shot duration will be
longer with the transitions more fluent for a relaxed
atmosphere, but where there is more action and
tension, it will consist of shorter shots. Also, some
significant parts of a scene will be slowed down for
dramatic impact.
6. SOUND
The diegetic sound of traffic will be very significant, as it will enhance the
tension of the specific scene. A clock noise will also be used as the Amber
approaches the road to increase suspense and make aware the importance of
timing.
Non-diegetic music will also be included, and this will be calm indie style music
to link to the protagonist's personality. However, it will contrast the mood of
the accident and emphasise how unaware her character is.
7. TARGET AUDIENCE
Although the film will consist mainly of females, the plot appeals to both male
and female. The film would possibly be suited more to late teens/young adults
as they would be most interested because of its more versatile storyline, the
way it’s filmed and the age group of the actual characters.
