When we expect someone to agree with us
(It’s hot today, isn’t it?) we use the same
falling intonation as in a statement (because
it isn’t really a question).
When we use a question tag to check
information (The capital of Kenya is Narobi,
isn’t it?) we use the rising intonation of a
yes /no question (because it is a real
question)

23. Echo questions
These are used especially to show
interest in what someone is saying.
They have a rising intonation (the
voice goes up)
