STEM studies are the center of attention in most US public schools today, after President Obama identified it as the next challenge in the education field.
Gradually becoming center of attention in countries all over the world.
The low percentage of students studying Technology & Science tracks is causing worldwide shortage of skills and skilled workers, and mismatch with industry needs.
ORT Israel success – over 60% of ORT students take Sci-Tech classes – compared to 30% national average.
ORT realized 10 years ago what the world is starting to realize only now.
We invented a technological track – called – The Sciences of Engineering in which we synthesized sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
While in rest of the world STEM approach has become a buzz-word only in the last few years,
ORT Israel has been leading the way for over 10 years, with advanced and innovative curricula in STEM related subjects.
ORT Israel STEM programs are unique due to several factors:
Interdisciplinary and multi disciplinary approach
Project-based-learning
Being always one step ahead of the innovation, ORT Israel is now leading the next generation of STEM studies.
The world is coming to a realization that when handling with problems – one-dimensional solutions are not enough any more.
As the technology becomes more sophisticated, and so the demands and needs of the market, multi-dimensional and multi-disciplinary solutions are required:
Connecting the left and the right lobes – studying ARTS expands the scope of possibilities and opprtunities and allows more open and flexible thinking
Greatest inventors and innovators in the history:
Leonardo Da-Vinci – who was both great mathematician and bold engineer as well as painter and sculptor
Anton Chechov – both doctor and Novelist and playwrighter
Steve Jobs – who brought art and design to a new level in combination with advanced technologies
Were you born with the innovative, creative character
Contrary to the common belief, people are not necessarily born with the skill of “innovation”.
Education and Training is a powerful tool that can be used to train the brain to encourage inventive thinking, creativity, entrepreneurship etc.
When creating “body of knowledge” that includes not only knowledge but also skills and values for 21st century – next slide explains in details
Either you are an employer or an employee.
Connecting to Environment (eco-system)
ELSA – Ethical Legal and Social Aspects
Holistic approach in teaching & learning
Connecting children back with the community – values of “giving back” – serving the society
Mention example of the projects that they will see shortly from the students – the importance of applying the skills of innovation in a way that serves society.
Imitate (copy) the nature
What iSTEAM studies will look like?
To prepare our children for tomorrow we have to teach them “tomorrow” before it’s here.
One of the biggest challenges and motivations here at ORT Israel R&D Center is to develop curricula and methodologies that predict study fields of tomorrow.
This list is just an example of the cutting-edge and groundbreaking curricula that our R&D center develops for International partners
