Persuasive Essay About A Family
Have you ever been stereotyped? Does it cause you to doubt your own identity? I have been anticipating for this day to arise. At this moment,
you're getting older and are beginning to gather new and old memories from your past. You might not fully be able to comprehend the reasoning
for this letter, but I am confident that after you complete reading this letter, it will help you prepare for the challenges that come with being an
adoptive kid. There will be numerous moments that society will attempt to categorize you, solely for experiencing a different life. As a result of
being adopted, people have been for years, labeling you. However, my intention for this letter is to notify you that you will be stereotyped simply
due to your past. Society will assume that you will become a problem child and you will have a low chance at exceeding in life. Due to being
abandoned early in life, you will come with a great deal of baggage. Because of this, it's necessary for you to remain positive, communicate your
feelings, and seek support.
You will eventually get older and start to question your past. There's no doubt about that. It will bring a lot of unhappiness into your life, for a short
period of time. As your mother and as a individual who has wandered in your shoes, I sincerely believe the
Wesen 2 ideal way to understand your grief is to be optimistic. According to Coates, "Part of me thinks that your very vulnerability brings you closer to
the meaning of life" (Coates). The

Essay on My Family's Ancestry
Gathering research about my family and its history turned out to be an interesting and insightful opportunity, through which I learned much more than
I expected. When I started this project, I knew that I would not be able to find as much useful information on the Internet as some of my peers. In
effect, I realized that I would have to rely on other primary resources such as my parents and grandparents to reveal the story of my ancestry to me.
After I had interviewed them, my family history became much clearer to me. More than 2 millennia ago, around the 3rd century BC, a group of
Tamil–speaking people from present–day South India migrated to the nearby island of Sri Lanka. Among these people, known today as "Sri Lankan
Tamils", are my...show more content...
The Peninsula has a hot, monsoonal tropical climate characterized by a dry season from February to October and a wet season from October to
January. Because of the monsoons, the region is humid and averages three feet of rain each year, which is relatively low compared to the rest of the
island. The climate of the region allows for many crops to be grown including many varieties of fruits and vegetables.
While interviewing my parents and grandparents, I learned about many customs and aspects of the Sri Lankan Tamil culture. Sri Lankan Tamils are
devotees of the Shaiva sect of Hinduism, mainly worshipping the lord Shiva. The three main cultural festivals celebrated in the area are Thai Pongal
(beginning of the harvest), Chittrai Pongal (Tamil New Year), and Deepavali (Hindu Festival of Lights). In addition, pujas (religious rituals) are
performed for different occasions, such as the death day of an ancestor or the celebration of a certain Hindu deity. It was also a custom to ask the
village astrologer for advice on certain decisions, such as the name of a newborn child.
Paternal Great–Grandparents In the early 1900's, Kadirasaipillai and Vairavipillai Kandappar, my paternal grandmother's parents, were born in the
village of Puloly, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. They were both born into families of the Vellalar caste of Tamil society and went to school at Puttalai
Vidhyalayam, the only schooling option

Essay On Family Identity
Family traditions and cultural legacies contribute to an individual's self–identity because it is the fabric of where he or she derived from, who they are,
and where they're journeying. Cultivating Culture states: "Culture can give people a connection to a certain social values, beliefs, religions and
customs. It allows them to identify with other of similar mindsets and backgrounds. Cultural heritage can provide an automatic sense of unity and
belonging within a group and allows us to better understand previous generations and the history of where we come from." In contrast, traditions and
cultural legacies can also inhibit an individual's self–identity because some families believe in total loyalty to the constructs of the family system.

"Culture the entire way of life of a group of people (including both material and symbolic elements) that acts as a lens through which one views the
world and is passed from one generation to the next." "Although culture may seem to be "second nature" it is something learned, rather than innate.
Because we learn it so slowly and incrementally, we are often unaware of the process. For instance, few of us would be conscious of having
learned all the slang words we currently use or the distance we typically maintain from someone while talking with him/her. We may not remember
exactly when we first felt patriotic or how we formed our opinions about people from the upper class. We all carry culture inside ourselves; it
becomes ingrained and internalized into our way of thinking and acting. Culture guides the way we make sense of the world around us and the way
we make decisions about what to do and how to do it." However those guidelines are not always embraced my every family member, so then the
family traditions and cultural behaviors can become a burden to the family member who wants to branch out and lead a

Characteristics Of My Family Essay
Family is a truly special thing. Essentially, what makes a family so unique is that unification of a group of individuals with so many variant
characteristics. In fact, each and every one of our unique relatives, in their own individual way, contributes to that extraordinary bond that families
share. Our blood may define family, but it's those unique relationships: like the one with the controlling grandmother, that crazy aunt, or even that
inappropriately laid back uncle, that genuinely gives family a special sense of belonging. Every single family has a head, an alpha male or
female. This individual tends to believe the universe revolves around them, and that they resemble absolute royalty when compared to the rest of
the family. In my case, this is my grandma Rosaura. The fact is, that she is the oldest, most experienced person in our family. Correspondingly, she
is praised by the entire family as well as looked up to for guidance because of her " extensive knowledge". In fact, she was a very successful lawyer
who was able to raise four children by herself; two characteristics of my grandmother's life which she would never let us forget. Thus, emphasizing
herself as the epitome of what you would call "a woman who don't need no man". Furthermore, because of her position in the family, she's also
developed some very interesting traits over time. To begin with, she's extremely controlling and authoritarian. My mother is 46 and my grandma still

Narrative Essay About A Broken Family
Imagine feeling like your whole world is crashing. Nothing seems to be going your way. Bad days often occur but for me it felt like a horrible
couple of long years. My big loving family started slowly breaking apart like leaves falling from a tree. It is crazy to picture what was once a
picture perfect beautiful huge family fall apart. Once the best couple ever, my parents, unfortunately broke up I could have sworn my life was
over, it felt as if I got hit by a truck. The pain was unbearable. Never did I ever picture myself living in a household with a broken family since I was
so family orientated. It felt like things just would not get better, I always tried to look at the bigger and brighter picture. Once day, everything
changed for the better. Thursday, December 15, 2011, I remember that day as if it were yesterday. Ring ring ring! I received a call from my loving
over protective mother. She excitedly informed me that my big sister finally gave birth to a little monster. A beautiful pure princess, my niece,
named Melanie was born. My first impression of her was "wow, she looks like a turtle!" Her small little round face and fragile body was cherry red
and swollen. She had on a tiny rosey pink cheetah onesie with the matching hat and furry white socks. She was born at a healthy eight pounds. Today
she is a flawless five year old, full of endless energy. She walks as if her small skinny legs are three hundred pounds each, with her blond curly hair

What Makes Up a Happy Family Essay
What Makes Up a Happy Family Is There Such A Thing?

Abstract
Family is important as it is also important to have a happy family. We might think at times what makes a happy family? Is there such a thing as a
happy family? Or is it possible to have a happy family. Having a happy family as we all might know is not an easy task to do, but it is neither
impossible. What we can do is search for element to guide us through a happy family. I understand that no one is perfect therefore; there is no perfect
happy family. We will learn that a happy family is unique and different from other happy families since we are all different human beings.

An example would be sitting down at the table playing table games or as easy as baking a cake. Furthermore, you must also enjoy your spouse,
since it is part of what makes up a family. Enjoying each other by dividing parental responsibilities so, that neither of them feels overwhelmed. In
order to make a happy family we must put marriage first. "There are many families where kids always come first, says Boteach. Then they become
substitute providers of love, he says. That's unfair burden to put on a kid. It's also bad for families because kids will move out of their house
eventually." (Mann, 2012) Marriage must set an example of love, which is what brought two persons together to create a family and they try to have
a happy family. Showing an example of love is not just by hugging and kissing but showing care and respect for one another. "In happy families,
family comes before friends. The camp counselor understands something that parents don't and that is that caring for kids also has to be fun. Give
rules, but understand that kids need fun, too. When kids get bored and listless, they start looking for excitement out of the home and that is when
friends become more important. Friendship is important but subordinate to family." (Mann, 2012) Therefore we should not let our children become
bored of us and look for their friends. We

Autobiography Of My Family
I was born and raised into a hardworking family that are the complete opposite of culture alienators. My siblings and I are all first generation in
America on my mom's side and second generation on my dad's side. Life was very hard for my parents to raise all seven of us and depended on
my grandparents for most of their help. Being that my grandparents brought all nine of their kids to America from Belize it was also very hard for
them so survive and find stability. Most families that come to America from a third world country usually find it very difficult to keep up family
traditions and sometimes lose all contact. My family found a way to stay very close and keep the Belizean culture very alive still to this day. As you

This left my mom with seven kids to raise by herself. Meaning one on one time was rare, because my mom is not a superhero and could not be in
multiple places at one time. Grief left my family and I in a place where we did not know what to do, but we eventually got out of it, and continued
on with our life. We always remembered the hard working parents we had, and the hard working mother we still had. I am resilient and got back
on my feet and continued to attend school, graduated elementary school, and will soon graduate from high school. Although, I have gone through
many difficulties it has made me work harder as an individual and choose my career choice at an early age. Being that I was very into the heart at
a young age, and my father passing from a heart disease, I always knew I wanted to study cardiology, and will someday soon become a
cardiologist. Being that my mother has attended medical school several times, I first handedly have seen how difficult it can be. I have been told
by many people to pick a different profession because of that; But because of how passionate I am about cardiology and the amount of times I have
experienced people deal with heart problems has assured me that I have chose the right profession. I being a very conscientious person has has also

My Family : My Own Family Essay
When we think of culture we usually think of a big group of people and we never think that culture is everywhere around us that we don't have to
have a group that consist of many people because it can be form in small groups too. We usually never think that our own family have its own culture.
I used to think that a family just does what it supposed to do and that's exactly what culture is, the way we act, think, feel and even the way we judge is
our own culture. Knowing this I decided that the group that I want to describe is my own family. Which consist of four people, two adults and two
children. We have the head of our house hold which is my husband, he supports our entire family. He works many hours to be able to support us.
Then is me, I attend college full time but am also a mother and I take care of everything at home. Then there 's my older son he is 9 years old and his
only job is to do good in school and help around the house. Then there 's my daughter she is 6 and like her brother her main job is to also do good in
school as well as some chores around the house.
Values are what makes us, there basically the foundation of the family. Most of our values have been passed down from generations before us. We
decide what we choose to pass down to our kids some of the values can be the same just in different order for example for some people religion is very
important it can be in the top 5 of their values but for some is may not be as important and it can be on their

My Day With My Family
I believe that I feel the most comfortable when I am home with my family. Any activity we do together is amazing. Whether it's watching a movie
together, having dinner, or having something to talk about. There is always a time of the day where we just have a good laugh about something
that happened throughout the day. I know my family will always be there for me and I will do the same for them. I believe that I am blessed to
have such a loving, caring, and compassionate family. I believe when times are tough, my family is my true comfort. Even if it's the smallest thing
like a headache or stomachache I feel better with just my mom doing anything for me to feel better. I don't need medicine to heal the smallest
pains; all I need is my family's love. I've never looked at another family and thought, "wow they have an amazing relationship, i am jealous".
Sometimes I do the opposite because I never had thought wrong about my family even when we're aggravated sometimes. I remember during the
summer we would have a cookout every single Saturday and Sunday. We would all get together and have my dads "special asadas". Which are a
special steak well done with allot of lime and spices. We would sit there for hours eating and having a beer. We would call close friends that we even
call family. I believe there is no perfect life or perfect family. I believe my family will overcome anything that causes pain or misery. I believe that we
are in full control of our own wellness, both

Reflective Essay About My Family
Everyone has a story of who they are and how they came to be. We all grow up wanting the perfect family, the perfect parents, perfect house, perfect
siblings, and to top it off, the white picket fence that surrounds the house. Then life sets in and you realize that life is not all rainbows and unicorns.
The people in our life and the environment that we grow up in, is what shapes us to the person we are today. Factors that influence how we are as a
person are our family, parents, and society. I come from a family that is hard to describe. We all get along and know when it is time to unite as a
family but at the same time the moment someone disagrees with one another, sides are chosen and it takes forever for us to make up. My family has

Everything my mother does is for the benefit of my brother and I. My mother has influenced me in many ways. She has taught me how to stand up for
myself, to not be afraid of things that may frighten me, not to listen to what others have to say about me because in the long run, what I think about
myself is all that matters. My mother is my biggest influencer and supporter and I will be forever grateful that I have such a great mom.
Society today is a huge influential part in everyone's life. Others may say that they are their own person and that no one has affected who they are
as a person because they are, "their own person," but society affects everyone to what they wear, what music they listen to, how they behave, and
many other things. Society has influenced me to stand up for others and to be a voice for those who are too scared to share theirs. I see all over the

Essay about Family Today
Family Today What is a family today? What challenges does being a member of a family present while traditional family structures change? Every
family has to struggle to balance the demands of work and children. Also the relationship between each spouse can become more delicate and
complicated. Besides, the single parent has to face even more challenges than any other.
Today, in a vast majority of families, both the wife and husband have a job. Many working parents are under stress as they have to try to balance the

The traditional family unit changed rapidly during the second half of the 20th century due to the effects of two world wars, rapid industrialization, the
development of technology, and the effects of the women's liberation movement. As a result the family became small (less children) and the majority of
women now can obtain equal opportunities in both education and work.
The role of a family is to struggle to survive, to protect and support children until children become mature and independent adults capable of providing
for themselves, and to provide a good standard of living. Moreover, if men and women can not co–operate well to deal withГЇВјЕ’the decision–making
is difficult or does not satisfy both, and then wife and husband may easily have arguments and disagreements. For some of them, these may become a
serious communication problem.
Since both men and women have to look after the family, sometimes they will have to put their personal, emotional and physical needs aside. As
already mentioned, when men and women feel stressed, then arguments and complaints may hurt the relationship. As a result, the relationship between
wife and husband becomes more delicate and complicated than in the former traditional family where the wife remained at home to undertake all the
tasks of raising children, cooking and cleaning.
The vast majority of single–parent families are

Doing what my parents tell me to do is just one of many reasons why I am a rock of support for my family. Not only do I support my parents, but I
also support my younger cousins and brother. As an eldest brother and cousin, I feel I must be a good example for the young ones. There are
numerous methods of showing my cousins and brother support. One main way is by providing advice on making the right choices. For example my
brother had a problem at school with one of his classmates. As a mature and responsible older brother, I advised him to use the non–violent approach. I
told him to go discuss the problem and try to resolve it peacefully. My brother then asked me why he shouldn't fight his classmate. I explained how
violence is the answer to anything. I advised him to first talk to his classmate in a professional manner. If then things get out of hand, I told him to
let the teacher know the situation. In the end, my brother didn't need to get the teacher involved. In fact, their conflict was resolved by talking
through with each other. I also am very supportive of my little cousins. One way I help them out is by tutoring them once in a while. They come
over to my house and I assist them with their school work. Not only I help my cousins with their homework, but I also support them recreationally. I
play various sports and activities with them. As their older cousin/brother, I feel I should be a good role model to follow. I am also known for being there

Positive And Negative Impact On My Family Essay
This Is Me When people think of work, it has both a positive and negative connotation depending on their experience. As the oldest in my family I
started working at a young age in order to help my parents. It was not work where I made money, but here work was a generous helping hand. I
was the babysitter of the family and had to learn at the age of nine how it felt to be in charge. It was a huge responsibility for me, so it was not as
exciting but more of a burden on my shoulders. My first view of work was not what I conserved it to be. I was like some people who saw work as
what a person does in their field of preference. The effort a person puts into a goal might even be seen as a characteristic in describing what kind of
person someone is. I put in all my effort into helping my family so I was seen with a little bit of respect. Work can be defined as who a person is
and what their morals and beliefs are. Catherine Rampell who is a "specialist in writing about economics" wrote "Many with New College Degrees
Find the Job Market Humbling", and was able to examine how unemployment and the choice of a person's major and proceeding further in their degree
relate with each other (1217). She found that individuals who spend most of their time in school trying to get a four–year degree end up not being in
the labor force. College graduates have an employment rate that is decreasing rapidly. According to Rampell's examination "only half of the jobs
landed by these new graduates

Family Defined
The word family has changed so much in the past century. A family back in the 1950's was probably considered a husband, wife, and one or more
children. Times have changed and families have become much different. The Interpersonal Communication: Relating to Others book definesfamily as
a, "Unit made up of any number of persons who live in relationship with one another over time in a common living space who are usually, but not
always, united by marriage and kinship" (Beebe, Beebe & Redmond, 243). Families can be broken up into five different types. The first is the

Edward was 100% Irish while Olga was 100% Norwegian. This makes my grandma Lorraine 50% Irish & 50% Norwegian. My grandpa Bill was

Psychologists believe that a child learns the most from his or her family life. The way your family members deal with you has a life long effect on
your personality. Keeping in view all these facts the importance of your family life cannot be denied. Family unit happens to be the most important
part of your life till you grow up. The children are usually closer to their parents and their siblings as compared to any other person in the world. As
the children grow up they find good friends, spouses, their own kids and colleagues to share their lives with. Although time brings this change but the
importance of family remains there. The children who have a sound family background and who belong to a family with strong family ties are almost
always happier. Thus one cannot deny the importance of family life.
The life with your family is very important it plays a major role in your development into the person you become. The goals you set for yourself in
your life are very much dependent on the life you have with your family. Those children who belong to the families which have a rich education
background tend to learn more. They are interested in learning more and thus it is easy for their parents to get them educated. Similarly, for example,

Descriptive Essay On Family Vacation
Family trip to Nevada!
It was a frosty morning, perfect weather to stay at home and relax but that wasn't the case for my family. We were filling up the car to the sky with
all sorts of items for the road that lies ahead. This would be the best and first family trip to Las Vegas! It surely wouldn't be the last though and that
we were sure of. A whole week before christmas break filled with the sun, barbeques, and lots offamily time in the huge and famous Las Vegas? Well
I could only say one thing "Let this vacation begin!" Begin and end it would and both with a mighty BANG!
It was a wintry January morning, perfect weather for hot chocolate by the toasty, red wood burning fire. It was still snowing when I started
packing up for a trip to Las Vegas. I was the first one to wake up and it was so quiet you could hear the snow falling on the ground outside. This
wouldn't last too long because my mom and sisters were about to wake up in a few moment so they could start packing. I seemed to be right
because a few minutes later their alarms started to ring, killing the quietness that rested in the house and outside. I guess it was now time for them to
awake and for me to start getting ready for the chaos the house was going to be. One by one they started waking up and started to make noise little
by little until the house sounded like a cat fight with everyone making noise and running up and down the stairs! "Star be ready in 10 minutes, we'll
start loading the car", my mom yelled! "Okay mom", I yelled back.
We started loading the car and everyone got in and got comfortable. I slept for a few hours and woke up to my mom telling my sisters we were in
the middle of a snow storm. Oh no, I thought to myself! A few minutes later my mom had my step dad pull over at a gas station close to ahotel so we
could let the snow storm go away a little bit. The car started to slide side to side making us all jerk a little as we were going down a small hill to get
to the gas station. "I thought I saw my life flash before my eyes" I exclaimed! My family bursted out laughing with tears in their eyes. I soon caught
on laughing at myself as well. We stayed at the gas station for about two or three hours until the snow storm had

My Cozy Home A home is a place where you have lived with your family for so long that it has, in a sense, become a part of you. It can be a
structure, a neighborhood, a state or a country. In my case, when I think of home, I initially think of a building, my house. My home, however, is
much more than just a house to me. It is also the place where I am always sure to find those I love most, my family. In a generation where there are
so many broken homes, I am fortunate to live with and be raised by two parents, who still love each other. I have two older sisters, Sabreena and
Trinity, and a dog, a poodle named Puffs. I live in a quaint, four bedroom house in a subdivision called Steeplechase in Avondale, Louisiana. My
house is a place of safety and refuge. My neighborhood is full of friendly, familiar faces. I have been smiling, waiving and occasionally talking to
these friends and acquaintances since we moved here when I was just two years old. Growing up in this environment has, I'm sure, contributed to
certain character and personality traits, which have made me who I am today. I am ultimately a trusting individual, who is both friendly and
hospitable. You can learn much about a person simply by walking through their home. For example, if you walk through my house, you would
instantly notice framed Bible verses, decorative crosses, inspirational sayings and a trophy case, filled with different types of past accomplishments. In

What Is A Family? Essay
For most of us, the family is considered as a well–known and comfortable institution. The perfect model of the 'ideal' family is still mostly considered
to be consisted from two different sexes' parents, and one or more children. Until quite recently, the sociology of the family was mostly functionalist
and just in the last few decades has been challenged from various directions. There are many different definitions about what the family is. Different
theoretical positions influence these variations. For example, the functionalist sociologist George Peter Murdock defines the family as "a social group
characterized by common residence, economic co–operation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain...show

An early functionalist George Murdock argued that the family plays the main role in the society by performing three main functions– пЃ¶Stabilisation
of the sexual behaviour and reproduction. пЃ¶Providing the basic economic requirements. пЃ¶Serving the function of socialisation of the next
generation. G. Murdock claimed that without family serving these three functions the society would disappear. He considered these functions as
universal, although he agreed that they could develop. Talcott Parsons argues this statement, by saying, that there are two broad functions of the
family– primary socialisation and stabilisation of the adult personality 'throughout the emotional security, including sexual expression, provided by
marriage' (O'Donnell, 1997). In these days, when society is changing, the functionalistic statements lose their strength. For example, the sex outside
the marriage, in these days of easily available contraception, is no more the taboo. Margaret Mead argues Murdock's and Parsons imply that nuclear
family is biologically necessary and natural. She stated that the nuclear family is based on culture, not biology. Marxist views on the family Marxists
have very critical view of the family and society. They adopt a structural perspective, but put it in the class nature of the society. The starting point for
the most Marxist analyses of gender and the family is Friedrich Engels' (1820–1895) The Origin of the

funeral because it was at the Moose Lodge. This is sort of like a pub bar thing. It had shuffleboard and pool but we aren't aloud to get the pieces for
it because we weren't of age to go up to the bar. They had people food and they had an open bar and a shot in front of his ashes. "He looks a little
dry, should I give him the shot?" My mom asked my uncle Jackie, all us thought she was funny, Jackie, Val, and Charlie didn't seem to think she was
funny. So my sisters Hayley and Mikayla, my cousins Heather Grace and Victoria, my cousin's husband David, her step son Zay, and me played
shuffle board the whole time we were there. When we left we went back to my aunt's ex–husband's,Joe, house because that was where we were staying.
The 6 adults were outside while us 5 kids were inside playing games. They were there all night and when they finally left my sisters and Victoria
watched The Breakfast Club, I was out like a light that night. When we woke up the next day my dad had already been to the gas station to pick up
coffee because Joe doesn't have a coffee maker which was problem for my family. After everyone was finally ready, we went over to my uncle
Steve's "house", it is a mobile home. WE spent the morning there, we even got to take a few of my uncle James' pocket knives, I took like 3, he made
them all the time

Persuasive Essay About A Family

  • 1. Persuasive Essay About A Family Have you ever been stereotyped? Does it cause you to doubt your own identity? I have been anticipating for this day to arise. At this moment, you're getting older and are beginning to gather new and old memories from your past. You might not fully be able to comprehend the reasoning for this letter, but I am confident that after you complete reading this letter, it will help you prepare for the challenges that come with being an adoptive kid. There will be numerous moments that society will attempt to categorize you, solely for experiencing a different life. As a result of being adopted, people have been for years, labeling you. However, my intention for this letter is to notify you that you will be stereotyped simply due to your past. Society will assume that you will become a problem child and you will have a low chance at exceeding in life. Due to being abandoned early in life, you will come with a great deal of baggage. Because of this, it's necessary for you to remain positive, communicate your feelings, and seek support. You will eventually get older and start to question your past. There's no doubt about that. It will bring a lot of unhappiness into your life, for a short period of time. As your mother and as a individual who has wandered in your shoes, I sincerely believe the Wesen 2 ideal way to understand your grief is to be optimistic. According to Coates, "Part of me thinks that your very vulnerability brings you closer to the meaning of life" (Coates). The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay on My Family's Ancestry Gathering research about my family and its history turned out to be an interesting and insightful opportunity, through which I learned much more than I expected. When I started this project, I knew that I would not be able to find as much useful information on the Internet as some of my peers. In effect, I realized that I would have to rely on other primary resources such as my parents and grandparents to reveal the story of my ancestry to me. After I had interviewed them, my family history became much clearer to me. More than 2 millennia ago, around the 3rd century BC, a group of Tamil–speaking people from present–day South India migrated to the nearby island of Sri Lanka. Among these people, known today as "Sri Lankan Tamils", are my...show more content... The Peninsula has a hot, monsoonal tropical climate characterized by a dry season from February to October and a wet season from October to January. Because of the monsoons, the region is humid and averages three feet of rain each year, which is relatively low compared to the rest of the island. The climate of the region allows for many crops to be grown including many varieties of fruits and vegetables. While interviewing my parents and grandparents, I learned about many customs and aspects of the Sri Lankan Tamil culture. Sri Lankan Tamils are devotees of the Shaiva sect of Hinduism, mainly worshipping the lord Shiva. The three main cultural festivals celebrated in the area are Thai Pongal (beginning of the harvest), Chittrai Pongal (Tamil New Year), and Deepavali (Hindu Festival of Lights). In addition, pujas (religious rituals) are performed for different occasions, such as the death day of an ancestor or the celebration of a certain Hindu deity. It was also a custom to ask the village astrologer for advice on certain decisions, such as the name of a newborn child. Paternal Great–Grandparents In the early 1900's, Kadirasaipillai and Vairavipillai Kandappar, my paternal grandmother's parents, were born in the village of Puloly, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. They were both born into families of the Vellalar caste of Tamil society and went to school at Puttalai Vidhyalayam, the only schooling option Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay On Family Identity Family traditions and cultural legacies contribute to an individual's self–identity because it is the fabric of where he or she derived from, who they are, and where they're journeying. Cultivating Culture states: "Culture can give people a connection to a certain social values, beliefs, religions and customs. It allows them to identify with other of similar mindsets and backgrounds. Cultural heritage can provide an automatic sense of unity and belonging within a group and allows us to better understand previous generations and the history of where we come from." In contrast, traditions and cultural legacies can also inhibit an individual's self–identity because some families believe in total loyalty to the constructs of the family system. ...show more content... Because of Dee or Wangero disdaining of herculture, she will wander aimlessly in where she fits in this world, not knowing if she is Dee Johnson a woman of a strong descent or Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo a woman of a style popular for the moment. "Culture the entire way of life of a group of people (including both material and symbolic elements) that acts as a lens through which one views the world and is passed from one generation to the next." "Although culture may seem to be "second nature" it is something learned, rather than innate. Because we learn it so slowly and incrementally, we are often unaware of the process. For instance, few of us would be conscious of having learned all the slang words we currently use or the distance we typically maintain from someone while talking with him/her. We may not remember exactly when we first felt patriotic or how we formed our opinions about people from the upper class. We all carry culture inside ourselves; it becomes ingrained and internalized into our way of thinking and acting. Culture guides the way we make sense of the world around us and the way we make decisions about what to do and how to do it." However those guidelines are not always embraced my every family member, so then the family traditions and cultural behaviors can become a burden to the family member who wants to branch out and lead a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Characteristics Of My Family Essay Family is a truly special thing. Essentially, what makes a family so unique is that unification of a group of individuals with so many variant characteristics. In fact, each and every one of our unique relatives, in their own individual way, contributes to that extraordinary bond that families share. Our blood may define family, but it's those unique relationships: like the one with the controlling grandmother, that crazy aunt, or even that inappropriately laid back uncle, that genuinely gives family a special sense of belonging. Every single family has a head, an alpha male or female. This individual tends to believe the universe revolves around them, and that they resemble absolute royalty when compared to the rest of the family. In my case, this is my grandma Rosaura. The fact is, that she is the oldest, most experienced person in our family. Correspondingly, she is praised by the entire family as well as looked up to for guidance because of her " extensive knowledge". In fact, she was a very successful lawyer who was able to raise four children by herself; two characteristics of my grandmother's life which she would never let us forget. Thus, emphasizing herself as the epitome of what you would call "a woman who don't need no man". Furthermore, because of her position in the family, she's also developed some very interesting traits over time. To begin with, she's extremely controlling and authoritarian. My mother is 46 and my grandma still finds ways to boss her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Narrative Essay About A Broken Family Imagine feeling like your whole world is crashing. Nothing seems to be going your way. Bad days often occur but for me it felt like a horrible couple of long years. My big loving family started slowly breaking apart like leaves falling from a tree. It is crazy to picture what was once a picture perfect beautiful huge family fall apart. Once the best couple ever, my parents, unfortunately broke up I could have sworn my life was over, it felt as if I got hit by a truck. The pain was unbearable. Never did I ever picture myself living in a household with a broken family since I was so family orientated. It felt like things just would not get better, I always tried to look at the bigger and brighter picture. Once day, everything changed for the better. Thursday, December 15, 2011, I remember that day as if it were yesterday. Ring ring ring! I received a call from my loving over protective mother. She excitedly informed me that my big sister finally gave birth to a little monster. A beautiful pure princess, my niece, named Melanie was born. My first impression of her was "wow, she looks like a turtle!" Her small little round face and fragile body was cherry red and swollen. She had on a tiny rosey pink cheetah onesie with the matching hat and furry white socks. She was born at a healthy eight pounds. Today she is a flawless five year old, full of endless energy. She walks as if her small skinny legs are three hundred pounds each, with her blond curly hair bouncing all over her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. What Makes Up a Happy Family Essay What Makes Up a Happy Family Is There Such A Thing? Estefania Ayala Keiser University Abstract Family is important as it is also important to have a happy family. We might think at times what makes a happy family? Is there such a thing as a happy family? Or is it possible to have a happy family. Having a happy family as we all might know is not an easy task to do, but it is neither impossible. What we can do is search for element to guide us through a happy family. I understand that no one is perfect therefore; there is no perfect happy family. We will learn that a happy family is unique and different from other happy families since we are all different human beings. What Makes Up a Happy Family Is There Such A Thing? "All happy...show more content... An example would be sitting down at the table playing table games or as easy as baking a cake. Furthermore, you must also enjoy your spouse, since it is part of what makes up a family. Enjoying each other by dividing parental responsibilities so, that neither of them feels overwhelmed. In order to make a happy family we must put marriage first. "There are many families where kids always come first, says Boteach. Then they become substitute providers of love, he says. That's unfair burden to put on a kid. It's also bad for families because kids will move out of their house eventually." (Mann, 2012) Marriage must set an example of love, which is what brought two persons together to create a family and they try to have a happy family. Showing an example of love is not just by hugging and kissing but showing care and respect for one another. "In happy families, family comes before friends. The camp counselor understands something that parents don't and that is that caring for kids also has to be fun. Give rules, but understand that kids need fun, too. When kids get bored and listless, they start looking for excitement out of the home and that is when friends become more important. Friendship is important but subordinate to family." (Mann, 2012) Therefore we should not let our children become bored of us and look for their friends. We Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Autobiography Of My Family I was born and raised into a hardworking family that are the complete opposite of culture alienators. My siblings and I are all first generation in America on my mom's side and second generation on my dad's side. Life was very hard for my parents to raise all seven of us and depended on my grandparents for most of their help. Being that my grandparents brought all nine of their kids to America from Belize it was also very hard for them so survive and find stability. Most families that come to America from a third world country usually find it very difficult to keep up family traditions and sometimes lose all contact. My family found a way to stay very close and keep the Belizean culture very alive still to this day. As you can tell by now...show more content... This left my mom with seven kids to raise by herself. Meaning one on one time was rare, because my mom is not a superhero and could not be in multiple places at one time. Grief left my family and I in a place where we did not know what to do, but we eventually got out of it, and continued on with our life. We always remembered the hard working parents we had, and the hard working mother we still had. I am resilient and got back on my feet and continued to attend school, graduated elementary school, and will soon graduate from high school. Although, I have gone through many difficulties it has made me work harder as an individual and choose my career choice at an early age. Being that I was very into the heart at a young age, and my father passing from a heart disease, I always knew I wanted to study cardiology, and will someday soon become a cardiologist. Being that my mother has attended medical school several times, I first handedly have seen how difficult it can be. I have been told by many people to pick a different profession because of that; But because of how passionate I am about cardiology and the amount of times I have experienced people deal with heart problems has assured me that I have chose the right profession. I being a very conscientious person has has also assured me that I will be able to tackle medical school and become a cardiologist. I believe that the first steps of becoming a cardiologist is that I have personally experienced people suffer from Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Family : My Own Family Essay When we think of culture we usually think of a big group of people and we never think that culture is everywhere around us that we don't have to have a group that consist of many people because it can be form in small groups too. We usually never think that our own family have its own culture. I used to think that a family just does what it supposed to do and that's exactly what culture is, the way we act, think, feel and even the way we judge is our own culture. Knowing this I decided that the group that I want to describe is my own family. Which consist of four people, two adults and two children. We have the head of our house hold which is my husband, he supports our entire family. He works many hours to be able to support us. Then is me, I attend college full time but am also a mother and I take care of everything at home. Then there 's my older son he is 9 years old and his only job is to do good in school and help around the house. Then there 's my daughter she is 6 and like her brother her main job is to also do good in school as well as some chores around the house. Values are what makes us, there basically the foundation of the family. Most of our values have been passed down from generations before us. We decide what we choose to pass down to our kids some of the values can be the same just in different order for example for some people religion is very important it can be in the top 5 of their values but for some is may not be as important and it can be on their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My Day With My Family I believe that I feel the most comfortable when I am home with my family. Any activity we do together is amazing. Whether it's watching a movie together, having dinner, or having something to talk about. There is always a time of the day where we just have a good laugh about something that happened throughout the day. I know my family will always be there for me and I will do the same for them. I believe that I am blessed to have such a loving, caring, and compassionate family. I believe when times are tough, my family is my true comfort. Even if it's the smallest thing like a headache or stomachache I feel better with just my mom doing anything for me to feel better. I don't need medicine to heal the smallest pains; all I need is my family's love. I've never looked at another family and thought, "wow they have an amazing relationship, i am jealous". Sometimes I do the opposite because I never had thought wrong about my family even when we're aggravated sometimes. I remember during the summer we would have a cookout every single Saturday and Sunday. We would all get together and have my dads "special asadas". Which are a special steak well done with allot of lime and spices. We would sit there for hours eating and having a beer. We would call close friends that we even call family. I believe there is no perfect life or perfect family. I believe my family will overcome anything that causes pain or misery. I believe that we are in full control of our own wellness, both Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Reflective Essay About My Family Everyone has a story of who they are and how they came to be. We all grow up wanting the perfect family, the perfect parents, perfect house, perfect siblings, and to top it off, the white picket fence that surrounds the house. Then life sets in and you realize that life is not all rainbows and unicorns. The people in our life and the environment that we grow up in, is what shapes us to the person we are today. Factors that influence how we are as a person are our family, parents, and society. I come from a family that is hard to describe. We all get along and know when it is time to unite as a family but at the same time the moment someone disagrees with one another, sides are chosen and it takes forever for us to make up. My family has ...show more content... My dad was a great dad if he was not under the influence, but if he was under the influence he was very abusive, physically and emotionally. My mother on the other hand, wants nothing but for me to prosper in life and be happy. If I were to describe my mom with one word it would be, fighter. Everything my mother does is for the benefit of my brother and I. My mother has influenced me in many ways. She has taught me how to stand up for myself, to not be afraid of things that may frighten me, not to listen to what others have to say about me because in the long run, what I think about myself is all that matters. My mother is my biggest influencer and supporter and I will be forever grateful that I have such a great mom. Society today is a huge influential part in everyone's life. Others may say that they are their own person and that no one has affected who they are as a person because they are, "their own person," but society affects everyone to what they wear, what music they listen to, how they behave, and many other things. Society has influenced me to stand up for others and to be a voice for those who are too scared to share theirs. I see all over the news and social media, all the hate that goes on in the world just because someone is a little different then them. Society has also influenced the clothes I wear and music I listen Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay about Family Today Family Today What is a family today? What challenges does being a member of a family present while traditional family structures change? Every family has to struggle to balance the demands of work and children. Also the relationship between each spouse can become more delicate and complicated. Besides, the single parent has to face even more challenges than any other. Today, in a vast majority of families, both the wife and husband have a job. Many working parents are under stress as they have to try to balance the demands of their work, children and...show more content... The traditional family unit changed rapidly during the second half of the 20th century due to the effects of two world wars, rapid industrialization, the development of technology, and the effects of the women's liberation movement. As a result the family became small (less children) and the majority of women now can obtain equal opportunities in both education and work. The role of a family is to struggle to survive, to protect and support children until children become mature and independent adults capable of providing for themselves, and to provide a good standard of living. Moreover, if men and women can not co–operate well to deal withГЇВјЕ’the decision–making is difficult or does not satisfy both, and then wife and husband may easily have arguments and disagreements. For some of them, these may become a serious communication problem. Since both men and women have to look after the family, sometimes they will have to put their personal, emotional and physical needs aside. As already mentioned, when men and women feel stressed, then arguments and complaints may hurt the relationship. As a result, the relationship between wife and husband becomes more delicate and complicated than in the former traditional family where the wife remained at home to undertake all the tasks of raising children, cooking and cleaning. My mother is the one who is in charge for making meals and makes sure everyone eats at the appropriate times. My little brother is the pet of the family. Doing what my parents tell me to do is just one of many reasons why I am a rock of support for my family. Not only do I support my parents, but I also support my younger cousins and brother. As an eldest brother and cousin, I feel I must be a good example for the young ones. There are numerous methods of showing my cousins and brother support. One main way is by providing advice on making the right choices. For example my brother had a problem at school with one of his classmates. As a mature and responsible older brother, I advised him to use the non–violent approach. I told him to go discuss the problem and try to resolve it peacefully. My brother then asked me why he shouldn't fight his classmate. I explained how violence is the answer to anything. I advised him to first talk to his classmate in a professional manner. If then things get out of hand, I told him to let the teacher know the situation. In the end, my brother didn't need to get the teacher involved. In fact, their conflict was resolved by talking through with each other. I also am very supportive of my little cousins. One way I help them out is by tutoring them once in a while. They come over to my house and I assist them with their school work. Not only I help my cousins with their homework, but I also support them recreationally. I play various sports and activities with them. As their older cousin/brother, I feel I should be a good role model to follow. I am also known for being there Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Positive And Negative Impact On My Family Essay This Is Me When people think of work, it has both a positive and negative connotation depending on their experience. As the oldest in my family I started working at a young age in order to help my parents. It was not work where I made money, but here work was a generous helping hand. I was the babysitter of the family and had to learn at the age of nine how it felt to be in charge. It was a huge responsibility for me, so it was not as exciting but more of a burden on my shoulders. My first view of work was not what I conserved it to be. I was like some people who saw work as what a person does in their field of preference. The effort a person puts into a goal might even be seen as a characteristic in describing what kind of person someone is. I put in all my effort into helping my family so I was seen with a little bit of respect. Work can be defined as who a person is and what their morals and beliefs are. Catherine Rampell who is a "specialist in writing about economics" wrote "Many with New College Degrees Find the Job Market Humbling", and was able to examine how unemployment and the choice of a person's major and proceeding further in their degree relate with each other (1217). She found that individuals who spend most of their time in school trying to get a four–year degree end up not being in the labor force. College graduates have an employment rate that is decreasing rapidly. According to Rampell's examination "only half of the jobs landed by these new graduates Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Descriptive Essay On Family Vacation Family trip to Nevada! It was a frosty morning, perfect weather to stay at home and relax but that wasn't the case for my family. We were filling up the car to the sky with all sorts of items for the road that lies ahead. This would be the best and first family trip to Las Vegas! It surely wouldn't be the last though and that we were sure of. A whole week before christmas break filled with the sun, barbeques, and lots offamily time in the huge and famous Las Vegas? Well I could only say one thing "Let this vacation begin!" Begin and end it would and both with a mighty BANG! It was a wintry January morning, perfect weather for hot chocolate by the toasty, red wood burning fire. It was still snowing when I started packing up for a trip to Las Vegas. I was the first one to wake up and it was so quiet you could hear the snow falling on the ground outside. This wouldn't last too long because my mom and sisters were about to wake up in a few moment so they could start packing. I seemed to be right because a few minutes later their alarms started to ring, killing the quietness that rested in the house and outside. I guess it was now time for them to awake and for me to start getting ready for the chaos the house was going to be. One by one they started waking up and started to make noise little by little until the house sounded like a cat fight with everyone making noise and running up and down the stairs! "Star be ready in 10 minutes, we'll start loading the car", my mom yelled! "Okay mom", I yelled back. We started loading the car and everyone got in and got comfortable. I slept for a few hours and woke up to my mom telling my sisters we were in the middle of a snow storm. Oh no, I thought to myself! A few minutes later my mom had my step dad pull over at a gas station close to ahotel so we could let the snow storm go away a little bit. The car started to slide side to side making us all jerk a little as we were going down a small hill to get to the gas station. "I thought I saw my life flash before my eyes" I exclaimed! My family bursted out laughing with tears in their eyes. I soon caught on laughing at myself as well. We stayed at the gas station for about two or three hours until the snow storm had Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Descriptive Essay About My Family My Cozy Home A home is a place where you have lived with your family for so long that it has, in a sense, become a part of you. It can be a structure, a neighborhood, a state or a country. In my case, when I think of home, I initially think of a building, my house. My home, however, is much more than just a house to me. It is also the place where I am always sure to find those I love most, my family. In a generation where there are so many broken homes, I am fortunate to live with and be raised by two parents, who still love each other. I have two older sisters, Sabreena and Trinity, and a dog, a poodle named Puffs. I live in a quaint, four bedroom house in a subdivision called Steeplechase in Avondale, Louisiana. My house is a place of safety and refuge. My neighborhood is full of friendly, familiar faces. I have been smiling, waiving and occasionally talking to these friends and acquaintances since we moved here when I was just two years old. Growing up in this environment has, I'm sure, contributed to certain character and personality traits, which have made me who I am today. I am ultimately a trusting individual, who is both friendly and hospitable. You can learn much about a person simply by walking through their home. For example, if you walk through my house, you would instantly notice framed Bible verses, decorative crosses, inspirational sayings and a trophy case, filled with different types of past accomplishments. In our living room, there is a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. What Is A Family? Essay For most of us, the family is considered as a well–known and comfortable institution. The perfect model of the 'ideal' family is still mostly considered to be consisted from two different sexes' parents, and one or more children. Until quite recently, the sociology of the family was mostly functionalist and just in the last few decades has been challenged from various directions. There are many different definitions about what the family is. Different theoretical positions influence these variations. For example, the functionalist sociologist George Peter Murdock defines the family as "a social group characterized by common residence, economic co–operation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain...show more content... An early functionalist George Murdock argued that the family plays the main role in the society by performing three main functions– пЃ¶Stabilisation of the sexual behaviour and reproduction. пЃ¶Providing the basic economic requirements. пЃ¶Serving the function of socialisation of the next generation. G. Murdock claimed that without family serving these three functions the society would disappear. He considered these functions as universal, although he agreed that they could develop. Talcott Parsons argues this statement, by saying, that there are two broad functions of the family– primary socialisation and stabilisation of the adult personality 'throughout the emotional security, including sexual expression, provided by marriage' (O'Donnell, 1997). In these days, when society is changing, the functionalistic statements lose their strength. For example, the sex outside the marriage, in these days of easily available contraception, is no more the taboo. Margaret Mead argues Murdock's and Parsons imply that nuclear family is biologically necessary and natural. She stated that the nuclear family is based on culture, not biology. Marxist views on the family Marxists have very critical view of the family and society. They adopt a structural perspective, but put it in the class nature of the society. The starting point for the most Marxist analyses of gender and the family is Friedrich Engels' (1820–1895) The Origin of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. My Family : My Crazy Family My Crazy Family "And he will be missed" We went to New Mexico a few years ago for my uncle James' funeral and this is how they ended it.. It wasn't much of a funeral because it was at the Moose Lodge. This is sort of like a pub bar thing. It had shuffleboard and pool but we aren't aloud to get the pieces for it because we weren't of age to go up to the bar. They had people food and they had an open bar and a shot in front of his ashes. "He looks a little dry, should I give him the shot?" My mom asked my uncle Jackie, all us thought she was funny, Jackie, Val, and Charlie didn't seem to think she was funny. So my sisters Hayley and Mikayla, my cousins Heather Grace and Victoria, my cousin's husband David, her step son Zay, and me played shuffle board the whole time we were there. When we left we went back to my aunt's ex–husband's,Joe, house because that was where we were staying. The 6 adults were outside while us 5 kids were inside playing games. They were there all night and when they finally left my sisters and Victoria watched The Breakfast Club, I was out like a light that night. When we woke up the next day my dad had already been to the gas station to pick up coffee because Joe doesn't have a coffee maker which was problem for my family. After everyone was finally ready, we went over to my uncle Steve's "house", it is a mobile home. WE spent the morning there, we even got to take a few of my uncle James' pocket knives, I took like 3, he made them all the time Get more content on HelpWriting.net
