Human Communication Essay example
Throughout the years there have been different ways that humans communicate with each other whether it be from talking, body language, or sign
language. But how does this communication affect us as human beings? There are many different types of communication such as Interpersonal
Communications, Intrapersonal Communications, and Cross–Cultural Communications. Finding out how people communicate with each other is a key
factor in our lives and we need to be able to understand how we can communicate better with ourselves and each other especially when it comes to
communicating with people with cultures unlike ours. Humans have been communicating for years with themselves and others but only in the last
century has anyone started to...show more content...
2). There are three aspect of intrapersonal communication. "Self–concept is the basis for intrapersonal communication because it determines how a
persona sees him/herself and is oriented toward others. Self–Concepts (also called self–awareness) involves three factors: beliefs, values and attitudes."
(Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. 2). Beliefs we base upon our religion, our upbringing and our personal knowledge on things that we know about.
We have values that by being up brought have been instilled inside of us and we base right and wrong not only on values but beliefs as well.
Attitudes are how we view a particular topic and/or person and they way we feel about a topic is the way we present ourselves and our attitude. "Other
things that can affect self–concept are personal attributes, talents, social role, even birth order/" (Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. 2). Self–concept
looks inward into a person. The next aspect looks outward and this is called perception. "Perception of the outside world also is rooted in beliefs,
values and attitudes. It is so closely intertwined with self–concept that one feeds off the other, creating a harmonious understanding of both oneself and
ones world" ("Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. 2). Both perception

Design Thinking Essay examples
Design thinking is a process for practical, creative resolution of problems or issues that looks for an improved future result. It is the essential ability to
combine empathy, creativity and rationality to meet user needs and drive business success. Unlike analytical thinking, design thinking is a creative
process based around the building up of ideas. There are no judgments early on the design thinking (Simon, 1969, p. 55). Design thinking includes
imagination and reason, a combination of convergent and divergent thought, and creativity. Design thinking might be thought of as dialectic, or
conversation. It involves design wisdom, judgment, and knowledge. Lastly, design thinking is skill (Hegeman, 2008).

Deep understanding of the context of client and user needs is generated through analytical observation or ethnographic research that task seek to
understand the fundamental use and usability needs of the customer or user and the meaning–based needs (Archer, 1984, 64). In the observation phase,
data is collected to elicit the stories that help to understand culture and meaning in variety of forms: field notes, focus groups, interviews, transcripts,
photographs, video and audio tapes, participant or non–participant observation, and formal ethnographic (Beckman & Barry, 2007).
The second stage of design thinking is frameworks the design problem: this phase requires processing and a large amount of information –which is
collected from the observation phase– but at the same time being able to see what is missing for the customers and users information. The ultimate
purpose of the framing phase is to reframe the design problem, to come up with a new story to tell about how the user might solve his or her problem,
or to come up with a new way of seeing problem, to identify interesting dimension, to identifying and formulation the goals, to identifying external and
internal constrains (Oxman, 1997, p. 344), to create design brief –outline programme– and time lines and providing the boundaries of the design field
(Archer, 1984, p. 67; Cross, 2006, p. 32).
After framing and reframing the problem, the design innovation process moves to the third stage:

My Definition of Success Essay example
"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value."
– Albert Einstein ––
My personal definition would not include "stuff" at all. No one will care (and neither will you) what kind of car your drove or how big your house
was when you're on your deathbed. Your thoughts will not be about your job, the office or how much money you made.
Personal success is defined by how content and enjoyable your life is. That is not to say that challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. A
rich, eventful and challenging life doing what you enjoy and positively affecting others seems to me to be just about right. Find a job you love and
you'll never work another day in your life. I know I won't. In my...show more content...
Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and
your contentment with it are also very important, and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life
interesting and challenging.
In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or the amount of wealth or power or number of
promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most
successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination. They took that trip when they were 25 even
though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the $55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would
enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company, moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that
most people only dream about. If they managed to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is
practiced, things won't spin out of control.
Bottom line rules for a successful life:
Always try new things.
Listen twice as much as you talk.
Travel as much as you can comfortably afford.
Faith and family always come first –

Essay on The Idea of Self-Concept
Self–Concept Essay
Self concept is the cognitive thinking aspect of self also related to one's self–image, it's the way we see ourselves in the mirror. We are grown into our
self concept by what we learn when we are young from our parents or our peers. Self concept is changed throughout life from how people look at
you, how you compare to others, how your traditions and customs differ from other people, and how you feel about yourself. If people admire us,
flatter us, seek out our company, listen attentively and agree with us we tend to develop a positive self–image. If they avoid us, neglect us; tell us things
about ourselves that we don't want to hear we develop a negative self–image. We are all social beings whose behavior is...show more content...
Here in The United States there are many different types of cultures as well as traditions and customs and that could sometimes be a issue. What we
need to understand is that nothing is wrong with who we are as a person, we are just somewhat different from others. Weidentity with the positions we
occupy, the roles we play and the groups we belong to. When I was a little girl used to do the things everyone told me to just so I could fit in with
the rest of my friends, but as I grew up I realized that is actually better to stand out, in my way of thinking it is better being yourself and show what
you think and feel. What I think of myself is that I am a very straight forward person, talkative, friendly and respectful with the people that deserve
it. I could sometimes be tough when I express my opinions and I really don't get that affected by other's people opinion. I have learned a lot not
just from my parents but also from friends, relatives and coo workers. Finally, I could truly say that people's concept doesn't affect me in a way it
could hurt me but in a way of becoming more effective and accurate. My parents have always reminded me of how good I am and that I'm one of a
kind, with this I'm not Inferring that I think "I'm all that" but that as I said before we are all unique. Culture could be somehow a wall between two

Conceptual Art Essay

Mapping the Post Modern – SAHT1102
Essay Question 2: – Using Examples, discuss why and how Conceptual artists set out to destroy or undermine the value of physical pleasure in art's
making and reception.
Conceptual Art maybe defined as a concept or art movement that came about the 1960's as a reaction towards formalism. Where in art theory,
formalism is a concept where an artwork or piece's entire artistic value is based purely on its form and visual aspects. For example, American essayist
/art critic, Clement Greenberg suggested the notion that art should examine its own nature and was already a potent aspect of vision of Modern art
during the 1950's. However with the mergence of conceptual artists...show more content...
Those elements that ran counter to this nature were to be reduced. The task of painting, for example, was to define precisely what kind of object a
painting truly is: what makes it a painting and nothing else? As it is of the nature of paintings to be flat objects with canvas surfaces onto which
coloured pigment is applied, such things as figuration, 3–D perspective illusion and references to external subject matter were all found to be
extraneous to the essence of painting, and ought to be removed (Rorimer, 11). On the other hand, some have argued that conceptual art continued this
"dematerialization" of art by removing the need for objects altogether. Also others including many of the artists themselves saw conceptual art as a
radical break with Greenberg's kind of formalist Modernism. However, by the end of the 1960s it was certainly clear that Greenberg's stipulations for
art to continue within the confines of each medium and to exclude external subject matter no longer held traction (Rorimer, 12).
Conceptual art also reacted against the commodification of art where it attempted to sabotage the gallery or museum as the main location and
determiner of art, and the art market as the owner and distributor of art. Lawrence Weiner said and quote that "Once you know about a work of mine
you own it. There's no way I can climb inside somebody's head and remove it." Many conceptual artists' work can

Concepts of Health
CONCEPTS OF HEALTH
INTRODUCTION
As humans remain different in nature, so are their perceptions and response towards certain issues of their lives and well being. The concept of health
assumes to be a typical example of this and hence, poses debate about what it is. "Health" is a word which means different things to different people
(Ewles & Simnett, 2003). This essay intends to critically discuss the meaning of health by exploring different definitions and their contraindications.
Naidoo & Wills (2000) defined health in two main ways: the positive approach, where health is viewed as a capacity or an asset, and the negative
approach, which emphasises the absence of illness, diseases or disorders. "Health" as defined by the World...show more content...
In terms of the negative aspect of health, an individual is regarded as healthy when not suffering from a particular illness or disease. Though "illness"
and "disease" are used interchangeably, they are different (Naidoo & Wills 2000). Disease relates to biological malfunctioning, diagnosed by doctors,
while illness refers both to the personal experience of the disease and its social implications. Therefore the negative concept of health is closely
associated with orthodox medicine.
Townsend and Davidson (1988) also suggested that the term health is derived from the word "whole", which is a recipient of the healing process.
Therefore, an attempt to heal or cure in medical field literally means, to make whole or restore health. It is this idea that influences medicine to adopt a
mechanistic approach towards disease management thereby obscuring the understanding of health in human context of well–being, which advocates
for alternative or complementary approaches. This viewpoint also reflects in some definitions and the medical model discussed above. The criticisms
of the medical by Illich (1974) is that the medical view only deals with the cause of disease or illness rather than the external factors affecting the
person's health. Within different sections of medicine, for example the mental health department, there are marked differences when explaining the
origin of illness, disease and treatments.
However, the World Health

Style Inventory, preparation and delivery. I believe these concepts are critical aspects to a person's success in the business world.
One of the concepts that I found to be very interesting was "The Learning Style Inventory." "The Learning Style Inventory (LSI) describes the ways you
learn and how you deal with ideas in day–to–day situations." (Hay/McBer Training Resource Group, 1999, p. 2). The LSI is based on a test. The test
contains twelve questions dealing with problem solving, working with others, dealing with adversity, career decisions, and the effect of relationships on

In November of 1997, I talked to seventy–six people. I took fifty–five of those people out on test drives. The result was I sold fifteen cars. I had a
closing percentage of twenty percent. In December of the same year, I talked to the same number of people. This month, I took sixty–one people out
on test drives. I hit my goal of an eighty percent demonstration ratio. In turn, I sold nineteen cars that month. The theory proved true. A five percent
increase in sales did prevail, if my test drive percentage was eighty percent. Every month, after that, I worried more about how many customers I took
on test drives knowing my sales would increase by doing so.
I found it explanatory to learn that my being an action oriented individual was a strong character learning style for people in a sales based career. So
many people have told me that I am a natural at what I do. I now understand why.
One of the most important components of oral and written communication is preparation. "Preparation alleviates apprehension and helps identify
potential stumbling points in the presentation." (Krizan, Merrier, Jones, 2002, p. 447). Without either one of these components, it is near impossible to
succeed in your career. Some career choices involve more written communication while others involve more oral communication. In my chosen career,
as a sales representative, I use oral communication over written.
It is important to be prepared when making a presentation of any kind.

Wilson's Concept Analysis Paper
The purpose of this paper is to define the concept of resilience using Wilson's concept analysis. Wilsons method was developed expressly for
students to develop the abiity to "gain skills in answering questions of a conceptual nature." (Walker & Advant 2011, p. 55) The process he
developed provides the necessary structure for the development of a concept without being overly laborious in process. It is meant to assist the user in
"clear thinking and communitcation". (2011, p. 55). It uses the process of question isolation: deciding on a concept to address, finding right answers or
researching meaning of the concept to be investigated, example cases in which this paper will only identify a model case, social context in which the

The Importance of Self Concept to Personal Communication
The observation of yourself as an individual is called self–concept. Self–concept also embraces how well you know yourself through the medium of
thoughts, feelings and emotions. ====================================================================
Perception plays a key role in the making of self–concept. How you perceive yourself and how you think others perceive you, shape your self concept.
This means that if you have difficulty with perception your self concept is likely to be distorted. For example, someone that thinks everyone loves
them and agrees with every idea of theirs may have trouble with their own perception of what people...show more content...
Your personality changes according to what roles you play in your life. An example of this is a 16 year old playing the roles of friend, student, son,
employee and uncle. When playing the role of uncle, the boy will act more responsible, but when he is playing the part of friend he will be less
responsible and act childishly. This indicates that depending on the role you are playing, your personality will alter.
Perception also has the ability to transform the roles you play. The perception of yourself and perception of others have of you will have an influence
on the roles you play. For example, if you think you are an outgoing person you are more likely to adopt a lively, happy–go–lucky, friendly 'character'
than if you perceive yourself to be a quiet, shy, lonely person. This means that overall self–concept has an influence (via perception) over certain roles
you play in your life.
All the factors so far, link in very closely with identifying how important self–concept is to personal communication. If there were change in any or all
of the factors themselves, it would help or hinder the communication of that person.
An example:
If someone's perception somehow changed so that the person felt more confident and obtained a higher self–esteem then it would improve
communication. That person would find it easier to talk to new people, easier to involve themselves in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Concept
First of all what is a concept and why do we need it?. A concept is a way of categorizing and organizing things and situations so that the human mind
can function well and doesn't break down. To continue with issue of the status of concept, we have three main options to identify concepts which are
mental representation, abilities and abstract objects.
Concepts as mental representations in which they contain psychological entities and their starting point has to be from the representational theory of
the mind. Where thinking happens in the internal system of representation, in which beliefs and propositional attitudes enter into the mind as internal
symbols, example : Sue might believe that Dave is taller than Cathy, and also believe that...show more content...
According to this theory some concepts and features are better than others. This type of theory has its connection with Wittgenstein(1953) famous
remark, in which things that fall under a same concept and share a family resemblance can cause similarities and over–lapping. The prototype theory is
there to deal and define things that are unexplained in the classical theory like lack of definitions, objectivity. The prototype also has its disadvantages
and limitations. Starting with categorization when comparing the target object with a prototype, it fits the conceptual category if there is enough
overlap in terms of features. Another problem is compositionality. When a patently complex concept has a prototype structure, it often has emergent
properties, ones that don't derive from the prototypes of its constituents, example PET FISH encodes properties such as brightly colored, which have no
basis in the prototype structure for either PET or

A variety of definitions and meanings evolved about comfort with the term being related to both the patient and family. The first research study was a
study on the experiences of family members being present during resuscitation efforts in the emergency room after a trauma. Some of the benefits of a
family member being present are: the family feeling empowered and supportive, maintaining family–patient relationships, closure in a life shared and
fostering the grief process (Leske, McAndrew, & Brasel, 2013). Data was collected over two years in a level one trauma center with trauma
patients that had one family member present and were admitted to the surgical intensive care unit after resuscitation. The family member was
interviewed two days later for an average of ten to thirty minutes in a quiet room away from the patient. The sample size of the study was twenty eight
and the majority of the sample was female. The results showed that the majority of family members that were present felt that there role was to be
supportive and protect the patient during the trauma. They felt that being present was comforting to them and the patient, regardless of the outcome.
Another common theme was that the family felt comforted knowing that everything possible was done for their family member. This study was
limited due to the small sample size. Although the conclusions are valid, more research with a

Examples Of Phenomenal Concepts
Phenomenal concepts are concepts about our conscious experience that we form introspectively. They too are necessary in order for someone to
attend to her own feelings, one needs some degree of conceptualization, or else one would be blind to their own feelings just like children are blind
to numbers. Phenomenal concept *red* is the concept of the specific type of sensation someone has typically upon looking at red things. It is
drastically different from the concept *red*, for this concept refers to red things. It is also different from the concept *the sensation caused by red
things* for one can feel red upon looking at green things, for example. Phenomenal concepts are also distinct from psychological concepts. The latter is
characterized in terms of a functional analysis of the concept, that is, in terms of causal–functional relations with other states. Consider the
psychological concept of *sweetness* and the phenomenal concept of *sweetness*p. The psychological concept can be...show more content...

The Concept of Self Essay
The Concept of Self Who am I? What am I? Where am I going? These questions have baffled the minds of humankind for centuries, since man was

"Self–Concept". Who we are is, and always will be a reflection of different yet individual societies and environments in which we live. The roles we
play in our specific societies give us a place of belonging and self. The self as an entity exists on two levels: mental and physical. Diverse environments

As of now, I live and have always lived in a free, peaceful society. The role I hold in my specific society makes me who I am and gives me a place of
belonging. To participate in society, we must become increasingly more considerate of others and less self–centered. Let us examine the first statement.
"Who am I" "I" as a physical entity exist due to the laws of physics. Atomic structure is very real, and has been proven through scientific
experimentation. I know, from Einstein's Theory of relativity that everything is energy. Everything is made up of atoms in exact sequence with one
another making up solid forms through atomic bonds. Separation of these bonds is how we break objects apart. From Science, everything has
atomic structure. I know I have a physical form, and that I am a solid entity and know this because it is true. I have what we call through linguistics a
"body" and I have solid structure. All humans share the same basic physical makeup whether they like it or not. It's slight variations in physical
appearance that creates racism and discrimination. The idea of a superior race or gender is absurd, but unfortunately it exists through people's
insecurities and false cognitions of superiority. Example, I have a penis and I am Anglo–Saxon, therefore I am superior. The false idea that superiority
is found through sexual gender and or racial makeup is what will probably be the downfall of the human race. Not to stray from topic, but

Human Communication Essay Example

  • 1. Human Communication Essay example Throughout the years there have been different ways that humans communicate with each other whether it be from talking, body language, or sign language. But how does this communication affect us as human beings? There are many different types of communication such as Interpersonal Communications, Intrapersonal Communications, and Cross–Cultural Communications. Finding out how people communicate with each other is a key factor in our lives and we need to be able to understand how we can communicate better with ourselves and each other especially when it comes to communicating with people with cultures unlike ours. Humans have been communicating for years with themselves and others but only in the last century has anyone started to...show more content... 2). There are three aspect of intrapersonal communication. "Self–concept is the basis for intrapersonal communication because it determines how a persona sees him/herself and is oriented toward others. Self–Concepts (also called self–awareness) involves three factors: beliefs, values and attitudes." (Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. "Other things that can affect self–concept are personal attributes, talents, social role, even birth order/" (Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. 2). Self–concept looks inward into a person. The next aspect looks outward and this is called perception. "Perception of the outside world also is rooted in beliefs, values and attitudes. It is so closely intertwined with self–concept that one feeds off the other, creating a harmonious understanding of both oneself and ones world" ("Intrapersonal and Interpersonal" p. 2). • 2. Design Thinking Essay examples Design thinking is a process for practical, creative resolution of problems or issues that looks for an improved future result. It is the essential ability to combine empathy, creativity and rationality to meet user needs and drive business success. Unlike analytical thinking, design thinking is a creative process based around the building up of ideas. There are no judgments early on the design thinking (Simon, 1969, p. 55). Design thinking includes imagination and reason, a combination of convergent and divergent thought, and creativity. Design thinking might be thought of as dialectic, or conversation. It involves design wisdom, judgment, and knowledge. Lastly, design thinking is skill (Hegeman, 2008). Design thinking process has...show more content... Deep understanding of the context of client and user needs is generated through analytical observation or ethnographic research that task seek to understand the fundamental use and usability needs of the customer or user and the meaning–based needs (Archer, 1984, 64). In the observation phase, data is collected to elicit the stories that help to understand culture and meaning in variety of forms: field notes, focus groups, interviews, transcripts, photographs, video and audio tapes, participant or non–participant observation, and formal ethnographic (Beckman & Barry, 2007). The second stage of design thinking is frameworks the design problem: this phase requires processing and a large amount of information –which is collected from the observation phase– but at the same time being able to see what is missing for the customers and users information. The ultimate purpose of the framing phase is to reframe the design problem, to come up with a new story to tell about how the user might solve his or her problem, or to come up with a new way of seeing problem, to identify interesting dimension, to identifying and formulation the goals, to identifying external and internal constrains (Oxman, 1997, p. 344), to create design brief –outline programme– and time lines and providing the boundaries of the design field (Archer, 1984, p. 67; Cross, 2006, p. 32). After framing and reframing the problem, the design innovation process moves to the third stage: Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Definition of Success Essay example "Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value." – Albert Einstein –– My personal definition would not include "stuff" at all. No one will care (and neither will you) what kind of car your drove or how big your house was when you're on your deathbed. Your thoughts will not be about your job, the office or how much money you made. Personal success is defined by how content and enjoyable your life is. That is not to say that challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. A rich, eventful and challenging life doing what you enjoy and positively affecting others seems to me to be just about right. Find a job you love and you'll never work another day in your life. I know I won't. In my...show more content... Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and your contentment with it are also very important, and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life interesting and challenging. In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination. They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the $55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company, moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is practiced, things won't spin out of control. Bottom line rules for a successful life: Always try new things. Listen twice as much as you talk. Travel as much as you can comfortably afford. Faith and family always come first –

  • 5. Essay on The Idea of Self-Concept Self–Concept Essay Self concept is the cognitive thinking aspect of self also related to one's self–image, it's the way we see ourselves in the mirror. We are grown into our self concept by what we learn when we are young from our parents or our peers. Self concept is changed throughout life from how people look at you, how you compare to others, how your traditions and customs differ from other people, and how you feel about yourself. If people admire us, flatter us, seek out our company, listen attentively and agree with us we tend to develop a positive self–image. If they avoid us, neglect us; tell us things about ourselves that we don't want to hear we develop a negative self–image. We are all social beings whose behavior is...show more content... Here in The United States there are many different types of cultures as well as traditions and customs and that could sometimes be a issue. What we need to understand is that nothing is wrong with who we are as a person, we are just somewhat different from others. Weidentity with the positions we occupy, the roles we play and the groups we belong to. When I was a little girl used to do the things everyone told me to just so I could fit in with the rest of my friends, but as I grew up I realized that is actually better to stand out, in my way of thinking it is better being yourself and show what you think and feel. What I think of myself is that I am a very straight forward person, talkative, friendly and respectful with the people that deserve it. I could sometimes be tough when I express my opinions and I really don't get that affected by other's people opinion. I have learned a lot not just from my parents but also from friends, relatives and coo workers. Finally, I could truly say that people's concept doesn't affect me in a way it could hurt me but in a way of becoming more effective and accurate. My parents have always reminded me of how good I am and that I'm one of a kind, with this I'm not Inferring that I think "I'm all that" but that as I said before we are all unique. • 7. Conceptual Art Essay Seema Vittal Serigara – z3329377 Mapping the Post Modern – SAHT1102 Essay Question 2: – Using Examples, discuss why and how Conceptual artists set out to destroy or undermine the value of physical pleasure in art's making and reception. Conceptual Art maybe defined as a concept or art movement that came about the 1960's as a reaction towards formalism. Where in art theory, formalism is a concept where an artwork or piece's entire artistic value is based purely on its form and visual aspects. For example, American essayist /art critic, Clement Greenberg suggested the notion that art should examine its own nature and was already a potent aspect of vision of Modern art during the 1950's. However with the mergence of conceptual artists...show more content... Those elements that ran counter to this nature were to be reduced. The task of painting, for example, was to define precisely what kind of object a painting truly is: what makes it a painting and nothing else? As it is of the nature of paintings to be flat objects with canvas surfaces onto which coloured pigment is applied, such things as figuration, 3–D perspective illusion and references to external subject matter were all found to be extraneous to the essence of painting, and ought to be removed (Rorimer, 11). On the other hand, some have argued that conceptual art continued this "dematerialization" of art by removing the need for objects altogether. Also others including many of the artists themselves saw conceptual art as a radical break with Greenberg's kind of formalist Modernism. However, by the end of the 1960s it was certainly clear that Greenberg's stipulations for art to continue within the confines of each medium and to exclude external subject matter no longer held traction (Rorimer, 12). Conceptual art also reacted against the commodification of art where it attempted to sabotage the gallery or museum as the main location and determiner of art, and the art market as the owner and distributor of art. Lawrence Weiner said and quote that "Once you know about a work of mine you own it. There's no way I can climb inside somebody's head and remove it." • 8. Concepts of Health CONCEPTS OF HEALTH INTRODUCTION As humans remain different in nature, so are their perceptions and response towards certain issues of their lives and well being. The concept of health assumes to be a typical example of this and hence, poses debate about what it is. "Health" is a word which means different things to different people (Ewles & Simnett, 2003). This essay intends to critically discuss the meaning of health by exploring different definitions and their contraindications. Naidoo & Wills (2000) defined health in two main ways: the positive approach, where health is viewed as a capacity or an asset, and the negative approach, which emphasises the absence of illness, diseases or disorders. "Health" as defined by the World...show more content... In terms of the negative aspect of health, an individual is regarded as healthy when not suffering from a particular illness or disease. Though "illness" and "disease" are used interchangeably, they are different (Naidoo & Wills 2000). Disease relates to biological malfunctioning, diagnosed by doctors, while illness refers both to the personal experience of the disease and its social implications. Therefore the negative concept of health is closely associated with orthodox medicine. Townsend and Davidson (1988) also suggested that the term health is derived from the word "whole", which is a recipient of the healing process. Therefore, an attempt to heal or cure in medical field literally means, to make whole or restore health. It is this idea that influences medicine to adopt a mechanistic approach towards disease management thereby obscuring the understanding of health in human context of well–being, which advocates for alternative or complementary approaches. This viewpoint also reflects in some definitions and the medical model discussed above. The criticisms of the medical by Illich (1974) is that the medical view only deals with the cause of disease or illness rather than the external factors affecting the person's health. Within different sections of medicine, for example the mental health department, there are marked differences when explaining the origin of illness, disease and treatments. However, the World Health Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. It was a challenging task to write about only three concepts that I learned in this informative class. The concepts that stood out to me were Learning Style Inventory, preparation and delivery. I believe these concepts are critical aspects to a person's success in the business world. One of the concepts that I found to be very interesting was "The Learning Style Inventory." "The Learning Style Inventory (LSI) describes the ways you learn and how you deal with ideas in day–to–day situations." (Hay/McBer Training Resource Group, 1999, p. 2). The LSI is based on a test. The test contains twelve questions dealing with problem solving, working with others, dealing with adversity, career decisions, and the effect of relationships on ...show more content... In November of 1997, I talked to seventy–six people. I took fifty–five of those people out on test drives. The result was I sold fifteen cars. I had a closing percentage of twenty percent. In December of the same year, I talked to the same number of people. This month, I took sixty–one people out on test drives. I hit my goal of an eighty percent demonstration ratio. In turn, I sold nineteen cars that month. The theory proved true. A five percent increase in sales did prevail, if my test drive percentage was eighty percent. Every month, after that, I worried more about how many customers I took on test drives knowing my sales would increase by doing so. I found it explanatory to learn that my being an action oriented individual was a strong character learning style for people in a sales based career. So many people have told me that I am a natural at what I do. I now understand why. One of the most important components of oral and written communication is preparation. "Preparation alleviates apprehension and helps identify potential stumbling points in the presentation." (Krizan, Merrier, Jones, 2002, p. 447). Without either one of these components, it is near impossible to succeed in your career. Some career choices involve more written communication while others involve more oral communication. In my chosen career, as a sales representative, I use oral communication over written. It is important to be prepared when making a presentation of any kind. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Wilson's Concept Analysis Paper The purpose of this paper is to define the concept of resilience using Wilson's concept analysis. Wilsons method was developed expressly for students to develop the abiity to "gain skills in answering questions of a conceptual nature." (Walker & Advant 2011, p. 55) The process he developed provides the necessary structure for the development of a concept without being overly laborious in process. It is meant to assist the user in "clear thinking and communitcation". (2011, p. 55). It uses the process of question isolation: deciding on a concept to address, finding right answers or researching meaning of the concept to be investigated, example cases in which this paper will only identify a model case, social context in which the concept Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Self–concept also embraces how well you know yourself through the medium of thoughts, feelings and emotions. ==================================================================== Perception plays a key role in the making of self–concept. How you perceive yourself and how you think others perceive you, shape your self concept. This means that if you have difficulty with perception your self concept is likely to be distorted. When playing the role of uncle, the boy will act more responsible, but when he is playing the part of friend he will be less responsible and act childishly. This indicates that depending on the role you are playing, your personality will alter. Perception also has the ability to transform the roles you play. The perception of yourself and perception of others have of you will have an influence on the roles you play. For example, if you think you are an outgoing person you are more likely to adopt a lively, happy–go–lucky, friendly 'character' than if you perceive yourself to be a quiet, shy, lonely person. This means that overall self–concept has an influence (via perception) over certain roles you play in your life. All the factors so far, link in very closely with identifying how important self–concept is to personal communication. If there were change in any or all of the factors themselves, it would help or hinder the communication of that person. An example: If someone's perception somehow changed so that the person felt more confident and obtained a higher self–esteem then it would improve communication. That person would find it easier to talk to new people, easier to involve themselves in

A concept is a way of categorizing and organizing things and situations so that the human mind can function well and doesn't break down. To continue with issue of the status of concept, we have three main options to identify concepts which are mental representation, abilities and abstract objects. Concepts as mental representations in which they contain psychological entities and their starting point has to be from the representational theory of the mind. Where thinking happens in the internal system of representation, in which beliefs and propositional attitudes enter into the mind as internal symbols, example : Sue might believe that Dave is taller than Cathy, and also believe that...show more content... According to this theory some concepts and features are better than others. This type of theory has its connection with Wittgenstein(1953) famous remark, in which things that fall under a same concept and share a family resemblance can cause similarities and over–lapping. The prototype theory is there to deal and define things that are unexplained in the classical theory like lack of definitions, objectivity. The prototype also has its disadvantages and limitations. Starting with categorization when comparing the target object with a prototype, it fits the conceptual category if there is enough overlap in terms of features. Another problem is compositionality. When a patently complex concept has a prototype structure, it often has emergent properties, ones that don't derive from the prototypes of its constituents, example PET FISH encodes properties such as brightly colored, which have no basis in the prototype structure for either PET or Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Alexander Chamberlain Concept Analysis The concept of comfort is one that nurses provide every shift; however, it is not always easy to define. Katherine Kolcaba's Comfort Theory will be used. Walker and Avant's method for concept analysis will be used. The first step is to select a concept, which is comfort. The next step is determining the purpose of the analysis. The purpose is to define what comfort means and what comfort measures are and how they are used in nursing. The third step is to identify the uses of the concept of comfort. This includes definitions of term comfort and a literature search. The fourth step is to determine the defining attributes of comfort. This allows for insight into the...show more content... A variety of definitions and meanings evolved about comfort with the term being related to both the patient and family. The first research study was a study on the experiences of family members being present during resuscitation efforts in the emergency room after a trauma. Some of the benefits of a family member being present are: the family feeling empowered and supportive, maintaining family–patient relationships, closure in a life shared and fostering the grief process (Leske, McAndrew, & Brasel, 2013). Data was collected over two years in a level one trauma center with trauma patients that had one family member present and were admitted to the surgical intensive care unit after resuscitation. The family member was interviewed two days later for an average of ten to thirty minutes in a quiet room away from the patient. The sample size of the study was twenty eight and the majority of the sample was female. The results showed that the majority of family members that were present felt that there role was to be supportive and protect the patient during the trauma. They felt that being present was comforting to them and the patient, regardless of the outcome. Another common theme was that the family felt comforted knowing that everything possible was done for their family member. This study was limited due to the small sample size. Although the conclusions are valid, more research with a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Examples Of Phenomenal Concepts Phenomenal concepts are concepts about our conscious experience that we form introspectively. They too are necessary in order for someone to attend to her own feelings, one needs some degree of conceptualization, or else one would be blind to their own feelings just like children are blind to numbers. Phenomenal concept *red* is the concept of the specific type of sensation someone has typically upon looking at red things. It is drastically different from the concept *red*, for this concept refers to red things. It is also different from the concept *the sensation caused by red things* for one can feel red upon looking at green things, for example. Phenomenal concepts are also distinct from psychological concepts. The latter is characterized in terms of a functional analysis of the concept, that is, in terms of causal–functional relations with other states. Consider the psychological concept of *sweetness* and the phenomenal concept of *sweetness*p. The psychological concept can be...show more content... One candidate to play the special role of phenomenal concepts vis–Г –vis physical concepts is the so–called "experience thesis", that is, the thesis these concepts are experience–dependent: *one can only possess a phenomenal concept C if one undergoes the relevant experience about what the concept is about*. Besides the experience thesis, a second candidate to play the special feature in phenomenal concepts are their different *reference–fixing mechanisms*. Now we want to explore both of those features. I will begin by exploring the experience thesis, for it seems to be a general commitment shared by some of the phenomenal concept Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. The Concept of Self Essay The Concept of Self Who am I? What am I? Where am I going? These questions have baffled the minds of humankind for centuries, since man was able to evolve a concept of self and consider his own nature. Man has come a long way since that day, but has no further answers in the quest for "Self–Concept". Who we are is, and always will be a reflection of different yet individual societies and environments in which we live. The roles we play in our specific societies give us a place of belonging and self. The self as an entity exists on two levels: mental and physical. Diverse environments and habitats are what give us our individuality and our ideas of self. What I mean is; would I be the same person I am now if I was born and...show more content... As of now, I live and have always lived in a free, peaceful society. The role I hold in my specific society makes me who I am and gives me a place of belonging. To participate in society, we must become increasingly more considerate of others and less self–centered. Let us examine the first statement. "Who am I" "I" as a physical entity exist due to the laws of physics. Atomic structure is very real, and has been proven through scientific experimentation. I know, from Einstein's Theory of relativity that everything is energy. Everything is made up of atoms in exact sequence with one another making up solid forms through atomic bonds. Separation of these bonds is how we break objects apart. From Science, everything has atomic structure. I know I have a physical form, and that I am a solid entity and know this because it is true. I have what we call through linguistics a "body" and I have solid structure. All humans share the same basic physical makeup whether they like it or not. It's slight variations in physical appearance that creates racism and discrimination. The idea of a superior race or gender is absurd, but unfortunately it exists through people's insecurities and false cognitions of superiority. Example, I have a penis and I am Anglo–Saxon, therefore I am superior. The false idea that superiority is found through sexual gender and or racial makeup is what will probably be the downfall of the human race. Not to stray from topic, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I know a lot of people, but I only have two or three that I consider my friends. I value the quality of my relationships more than the quantity. I would rather go out and do something with one or two friends, rather than a large group. I enjoy having the close relationships with my few friends, I have no desire to fill my life with a ton of superficial friendships that come and go. I take a lot of pride in the work that I do. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, it could be playing video games, riding my bike, or at work. When I succeed at something I give myself a lot of credit. To some people this may seem like I'm conceded, or that I like to show off. The reality of it is that rewarding myself for doing something good motivates me to continue to do good things. It's a way for me to motivate myself. The way I credit myself is not in the fashion of gloating, or showing off my success, but the opposite. I play off my successes like they're no big deal. To some people I may seem conceded when I accomplish something. For example, when I was in the Army, I was selected for airborne school. Airborne school Get more content on HelpWriting.net
