5. INTRODUCTION
• Ethmoid sinuses are found in the spongy ethmoid
bone in the upper part of the nose between the
eyes. The ethmoid sinuses are hollow spaces in
the bones around the nose. They have a lining of
the bones around the nose. They have a lining of
mucus to help prevent the nose from drying
out. Inflammation of the ethmoid sinuses can lead
to pressure and pain around the nose and
between the eyes.
6. Definition
• Ethmoiditis ( ethinitis ) is an infection or
inflammation of the ethmoidal cells in the
sinuses. These are the air-filled spaces
behind the nose and between the eyes It is

typically lasts beyond eight weeks. It is

headache, nasal discharge, swelling in
the face, dizziness, and breathing
difficulties.

inflammation of a specific group of sinuses —
the ethmoid sinuses — which sit between the
nose and eyes. inflammation of Ethmoid

10. Conditions that affect the structure of the
sinuses or the flow of nasal secretions can
cause ethinitis sinusitis. Causes of sinusitis
include:
• An Upper Respiratory Infection
when a virus (or bacteria) enters respiratory
system. For example, you might touch an
system. For example, you might touch an
infected surface or shake hands with a person
who's sick. then touch your mouth, nose or
eyes. The germs from your hands enter and
infect body and spread the germs ethmoid area
through the nose and eye and lead the
ethmoid sinusitis .
11. COMMON COLD

upper respiratory tract. The most
common cause is a rhinovirus, and

the most common symptoms are a
stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, and a
scratchy, sore throat and inflamed
the ethmoid bone area.
12. SECONDHAND SMOKE TRIGGER SINUS
INFECTION
• Like smoking, being exposed to
secondhand smoke can do damage to
respiratory system. In fact, secondhand
respiratory system. In fact, secondhand
smoke is associated with more frequent
lung and sinus infections, chronic
coughs, ear infections, and even snoring
and sleep hygiene problems.
13. A weakened immune system
• Signs and symptoms of primary
immunodeficiency can include: Frequent
and recurrent pneumonia, bronchitis,
sinus infections, ear infections, meningitis
sinus infections, ear infections, meningitis
or skin infections. Inflammation and
infection of internal organs. Blood
disorders, such as low platelet count or
anemia. Wreaked immune system lead the
ethinitis.
14. Nasal Polyps
• Polyps vary in size; they may be yellowish-brown
or pink and are shaped like teardrops. As they
grow, they eventually look like grapes on a stem.
• Polyps may grow in one or both nostrils at the
same time; they can grow on their own or in
clusters. swellings that develop in the lining of the
clusters. swellings that develop in the lining of the
nose and paranasal sinuses
• Large polyps or clusters can cause breathing
difficulties and can affect the patient’s sense of
smell. They may block the sinuses and cause
problems, such as regular infections and effected
ethmoid sinuses.

19. SYMPTOMS
• A person with ethmoid sinusitis may experience
many symptoms common to all sinus infections.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC)Trusted Source, these can include:
• A runny nose
• A blocked nose
• A blocked nose
• pain around the face
• A feeling of pressure around the face
• headaches
• mucus dripping down into the throat from the nose
20. Con…
• sore throat
• cough
• bad breath
• In addition, they may experience symptoms
specific to ethmoid sinusitis because of the
specific to ethmoid sinusitis because of the
position of these sinuses near the eyes. These
symptoms include a swelling , red, or painful eye.
• Sinusitis can either be acute, meaning that a
person has it for only a short time, or chronic,
where it lasts for more than 12 weeks, even with
treatment. (during the treatment )
21. Other symptoms of Ethinitis include:
• facial swelling
• runny nose lasting longer than 10 days
• thick nasal secretions
• post-nasal drip, which is mucus that moves down the back of
your throat
• sinus headaches
• sore throat
• sore throat
• bad breath
• cough
• decreased sense of smell and taste
• general fatigue or malaise
• fever
• ear pain or mild hearing loss

23. A NASAL ENDOSCOPY
• A nasal endoscopy can be a useful
diagnostic procedure, during which the
doctor uses a thin tube with a light and
imaging source to capture pictures of the
imaging source to capture pictures of the
inner sinuses. The doctor can then view
these pictures on a computer screen and
recommend appropriate treatment.
24. Management
• Medical management
• To identify the causative agents
• To give anti inflammatory drugs
• To give anti inflammatory drugs
• To give anti histamine drugs
• To give analgesic drugs
• To give Antipyretic drugs
• To give stem inhalation
31. Preventing ethmoid sinusitis (
ethinitis
• Keeping your nasal passages clear can help prevent
sinusitis. These methods may also be helpful for allergy
sufferers. Prevention methods include:
• nasal irrigation
• staying hydrated
• inhaling steam to cleanse the nasal passages
• inhaling steam to cleanse the nasal passages
• using a humidifier, especially in dry environments
• using saline drops to keep nasal passages moist
• sleeping with head elevated
• Avoiding blowing ( secretion ) nose too often
• avoiding antihistamines, unless directed by your doctor
• avoiding the overuse of decongestants
