4. IDEA 1: JAMIE T- STICKS ’N’ STONES
Idea 1
This song is very up beat so this would suggest bright colours and fast moving video. The song is written
by someone who lives in a a city with a lot going on so I would shoot this video in a in the middle of a city
so the person viewing it can see all the commotion and speed that is happening in the city. I would
probably film with the artist busking and singing to the public about his struggles. I think this would be a
good way to film it as it would show how everyone has these problems and no one really cares about
other peoples struggles.
I would have it that he is alone for all of it maybe having him in a clown costume this is used in the official
music video because he is singing about all the bad decisions and this he did when he was younger and I
like the idea of the main person being in bright colourful clothes standing out from the public .In the official
music video it is very based on him and a clown which represents who he could have been if he kept
doing what he did when he was young there is also a few scenes in which he is with his mates.
Idea 2
My second idea is having the main person growing up with the song and doing all the stuff he sings about
in the song finally growing up into who he is now portraying the idea that all your actions have a reaction
that makes you who you are now. As the main cast I would have the writer of the song so it is from the
heart.
The rest of the cast would be dressed rough showing how he grow up and the fact the song has a lot of
violence and drugs hinting that the writer was brought up in a rough area and how he got out of there and
is now a successful song writer
5. IDEA 1: JAMIE T- STICKS ’N’ STONES CONT…
Idea 3
My last idea would have the main actor as and older man in his 50s or 60s on a train going to see some
old friends from his child hood and have this song as a song that reminds him of his child hood. I think
this would work really effectively as I could use different people at different ages who would be younger
versions of the person on the train, kind of like a flash back of what the person has done in their life.
This would fit in nicely with the music with all the different actions he talks about and does in the song.
I could film this as the camera is the main caricature sitting on the train looking out at all the places he
remembers from childhood this could be filmed all on a train just at separate spots and places.
This could also be built up on with big drone shots of a city or a housing estate to represent where he
grew up and all things he got up to when he was younger. I would also have shots of his family and how
his relationships never worked due to how he acted on the train the could also be lyrics or hidden on the
train and in the names of places just as a little thing for the viewer to watch out for.
6. IDEA 2: BON JOVI – IT’S MY
LIFE
This music video is very good as it has a lot of big stunts in
that keeps the viewer interested and makes them keep
watching as there is so much going on. The whole song fits
really well with the music as it is singing about how you
need to live your life to the fullest and in the video the main
caricature is dong some crazy stunts that the normal
person would not even attempt and all for love which is a
big theme throughout, this may suggest that he is the only
one living like that and is truly living life to the fullest as
repeated in the song “I just want to live while I’m alive” this
is him saying to live in the moment this is also shadowed
on the music video as he isn’t really thinking of the risk of
his actions he’s just doing what he has to do to get what he
wants. This song also reflects about about love and the
whole video is about a guy trying to get to his
girlfriend/partner as quick as he can not really thinking
about himself. The music video is very fast moving and is
all about him getting to his partner as fast as he can. the
lyrics “my love is like an open highway” sets the tone for
this fast pace video as the use of “highway” suggests fast
moving and set on one destination this may reflect his love
and how he is so set on this one girl when there is a whole
crowd of girls around her.
Quick reflection
In this video he puts his life at risk several times in lots of different ways
from, jumping down stairs. Jumping off a ladder, riding on the back of a
van, being chased by dogs, running in front of cars and finally jumps off
a bridge and rolls under a lorry. This is a good way to keep the viewer
hooked as they will always want to see what he does next.
Risk
This image is when he jumps
off a bridge
How its filmed
This video is filmed in a quite old style this is good as it fits in with the rest
of the video and props. All the cars and building look old and in style. The
colors change throughout the whole video other than the stage where they
are performing that stays a dark green color with bright color of blue and
white shining through out the darkness. We can see this when he is running
up the road/ under the bridge where they are performing as he runs up to it
the exposure makes it hard to see what’s in the tunnel this could be biblical
referencing as it could represent heaven.
Love story
This whole song is a love story and it links in great with the
music video as it is also a very powerful love story we can see
this firstly from the lyrics throughout the song. The song opens
with “this ain’t a song for the broken-hearted” this suggest the
idea of love and how if you are not in love while listening to this
song you wont like it or its not for you. Another lyric that shows
this song is about love is “my love is like an open highway” I
have already spoken about this lyric earlier and how it fits in
great with the video as it really relates to his the main actor.
The music video fits great with this song and this love story as
we see a man in love doing whatever he can to be with his
partner and this is all while a song plays about love I think thy
filmed and edited this very well.
Edits
This music video has a lot of cuts and snappy edits. All the different
scenes are switched on the beats so it fits really nicely with the song
also most of the clips and edits are fast this is the same as the music as
it is very up beat and quick. In a few clips they are actually frozen or
sped up in time with the music I think this is really effective as it just
makes the video flow a lot smoother.
7. IDEA 3: IMAGINE DRAGONS - RADIOACTIVE
This music video was shot in a shack/ bar in the woods. It starts with
a mysterious person walking up to this place holding a box/ crate. I
like this as a start to the video because it causes a sense of mystery
this is good as it will hook the viewer in and keep them watching on
which is a really affective tool.
Along side this we have the main vocalist of the group in a dark room
with nothing else other than a drum. When the person with the box
finally walks into the building there is some clever edits were it flicks
between her some old men betting and the main vocalist in the what
we soon find out is the basement of this shack.
The video has a lot of mystery as it doesn’t show for a while what
they are betting on. Then there are more shots of what look like a
cell with the band members in with all there instruments. In a close
up of one of the guitars there is dust on it this suggests they have
been locked up for a while now.
This idea of the band being locked up also is a really affective tool as
it makes us ask a lot of questions and kind of forcing us as the
viewer to watch on n see what happens to them.
I think that this music video is perfect for this song as it is very
fast paced and fits great with the music video as the song
sounds like it should be in the backing of some big battle which
this fits perfectly with. The use of having a lot of things going on
is affective as it
The camera then goes back to the people betting and you
can see a little glimpse of what they are betting on but
quickly after it goes onto a person that at first looks, looks
like a sort of boss person I assumed this from the close up
of the key that is round his neck.
This key gives more mystery and opens more questions
again hooking the viewer in. we finally see that they are
betting on teddy’s that fight each other this is not what
anyone expects making it quite unique this is a really good
technique as it makes it a very memorable video this will
spark a lot of talk about the video therefore people will
share it about and it will meet a much bigger audience just
because its unique.
We then see that the bosses teddy is undefeated and is
bullying all the other teddy’s we them fid out that there was
a teddy in the box that the mysterious girl was carrying this
teddy then kills the bosses teddy and some of the
spectators that try step in.
The teddy then baits the boss into the middle of the ring so
he can pull the leaver that gets rid of dead teddy’s. They
then steal the key and free the band it end pretty quickly
after that so the viewer doesn’t get bored.
8. POTENTIAL SONGS AND
TECHNIQUES
Potential Songs
I have a number of songs that I can choose from, some would be easier to work with than others.
The following are a short list of the songs I have chosen to consider:
Jamie t- sticks’n’stones
Tyler morrison-
Yxng cxld- wishes
Potential Techniques
As my potential techniques will mainly focus on the editing instead of the actual filing. I will have
different angles but a lot of the techniques I will use will be editing techniques. The techniques I
will use includes:
Long shots
Close ups
Quick snappy edits
Changing color
9. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
I plan to use the typical conventions that are used in rock
music videos to include things like;
Lots of different shots and different edits
Lots of movement and live action to keep the viewer
interested.
Most of the action shots will be taken during the day as this
gives the best lighting and we can see what we are doing for
things like skateboarding.
I will achieve these all through the filming and editing and with
a clear plan it should help make the video flow a lot smoother.
Most of the people in the video will be friends, it should be
good fun making the video and they may have some neat
ideas.
11. SUMMARY
Here are some opportunities for my ideas
I can use this video as an opportunity to explore the local area
looking for good locations for the video. I am not limited to
where the shots can be filmed and don’t need permission.
It will help develop my filming skills with my iPhone and old
camcorder and help to improve the way I use the video
functionality and any basic editing.
Having friends in the video gives the opportunity for them to tell
me new ideas that I could use, things that I may not have
thought of myself.
The locations and times of day will allow me to be more
creative with my angles and different shots. Although I will
probably try and film most of it during the day.
12. SUMMARY
Here are some restrictions for my ideas
Time- this is a restriction as it is all very time restricted as in I will
not have as much time filming as I would like this may effect the
production as i may not get all the shots I want.
Cost- I wont be spending as much money as other producers this
may restrict me as I will not be able to get all the high quality
equipment that others will have.
Cast- I may not be able to get some people that I would like to use
as people may be busy this could affect some of the ideas I had.
Travel- as this is only a small project I wont be able to travel too
far and this could affect my shots as they wont be as nice as some
commercial big budget videos.
Weather – this will restrict me as I will only have 1 week to film
and I cannot control what the weather however everyone else is at
this same disadvantage.
13. FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
For my final idea I am going to use the song “that place”
by my close mate ‘Tyler Morrison’. This song was written
and recorded by him this song has no words as it is more
about the music than the vocals however some of his
other songs do have vocals in I thought it would be more
fitting without. This song was written to be a hippy/ rock
genre and uses all the instruments that other more
popular well known songs use. Over all I think this song
fitted well with my clips as it made it a lot of personal as
all the shots seen in the video were mainly of ‘tyler’ the
writer of the song .
14. FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content,
duration, pace and style of the song]
The track that I have chosen is a song written by Tyler
Morrison called “…”.
I chose this song as it was written by a close mate so it is
original and personal to him and it has a good feel, emotion
and relates to us as friends.
The sogn is a hippy rock song that is quite upbeat and will
appeal to people who relate to this kind of music or perhaps
like songs that have been created by an artist who expresses
themselves.
15. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
My final idea is to shoot a video to an original song which has
been written by a friend. The genre will be hippy/ rock and
therefore will be upbeat and will provide lots of opportunity for
different types of video shots which should be easy to sink up
to the music.
All the shots will be filmed on an old camcorder and have some
of my friends in which will make this a good video to look back
on in years to come.
Most of the shots for this video will be doing things we enjoy
(like skateboarding) outside in good weather in the local area
where we have all grown up.
The music and video will be completely original and not based
on an existing artist and influences.
17. GUIDANCE:
PRE-PRODUCTION
ASSESSMENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make your
music video
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costings for such a
production and apply these to your planned production
considering which equipment you would need and
resources, etc
Resources to support this are in the Pre-production
assessment folder on Blackboard
Delete the questions on each slide and insert your
responses
18. TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
I would like my final project to look nice and fit nicely with the
song. The song I choose is a hippy/ rock song written by “Tyler
Morrison” a good friend of mine. The song is 3 minutes long and
has a variety of different instruments however doesn't have vocal. I
choose to do one without vocals as it is more about the technical
side of music and shows off his talent a lot more. In this song
there anre clear sections with the intro speeding up and flowing
into the pace of the rest of the song. About half way through there
is a fade out and then right after goes straight back into how it
was before. The song ends suddenly with one note fading out
after. For the technical side of things I used an old camcorder to
film with this is so my shots looked older and more fitting to this
style of music. I liked using this as it was easy to use and easy to
move clips so it was a good choice instead of using a more
modern camera
19. SUMMAR
Y
I will be filming on an old camcorder to get a certain effect that I really
like. The song will be a hippy/ rock song and there will be a lot of color
in it.
I plan to take a lot of different shots mainly of friends performing the
song, for example playing the guitar and the drums (and maybe
dancing). The music will be upbeat which should make it easy to sink
up to the video or to link different shots together.
There are several locations I will go filming including abandoned
buildings, rooftops and the woods. I think all these locations will go
great with the song, they will give different lighting, feeling, emotions
and perspectives.
It will have a hippy theme throughout to go well with the song all the
cast will be dressed in hippy/ casual clothes to go well with the music
and vibe.
20. LOCATIONS
All the locations I have picked are public or abandoned this is
good as it gives us easy access and we shouldn’t need
permission.
I also plan for the video to be filmed in the local area so all my
friends can get there easily or with minimal cost (i.e. bus and
train fare).
The weather could be an issue as most of the filming will be
outside during the day. We will do some shots inside, for
example when playing the guitar and drums.
Some of the shots may be on roads or paths with members of
the public. This may cause some issues with having them in
the film or waiting for the roads to be empty before
skateboarding on them.
21. EQUIPMENT
I think have all equipment I need at home including a camera
and a computer to edit. However most the editing will be done
in class so the editing stuff is just a back up in case something
happens like collage gets locked down.
The music will be produced on my friends kit, they have the
guitars and drums etc.
I may need a tripod for some shots to stop the camera from
wobbling, but I have one at home if I need this.
For action shots like skateboarding we all have our own
skateboards.
Other than that all props and stuff I will already have at home.
I don’t think I will need to buy or hire extra kit for this
assignment, so costs should be low.
22. FACILITIES
I will try to do all my editing on the macs at college or use the
laptop at home. I would prefer to use the college macs if
possible as these are better specs and everything is set-up
ready to be used.
For work at home I can use the home office which is quiet and I
wont be distracted during editing.
I think I have all of the facilities I need for this assignment.
23. PERSONNEL
The cast I am going to use will be my close mates and shots
will be all close to all of us therefore no extra travel costs or
perhaps this will be minimal.
All my cast are currently at collage so there will be a little bit of
overlap with the filming times however we are all free on the
weekends so that will be prime time to film.
I will be doing all the filming and editing which is good as I can
be more creative with the shots and edits. All the props I need I
already have this is good as it wont cost and they already have
everything needed.
I don’t think I need any extra personnel or performers to
complete this assignment.
24. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
The only props I will need is a guitar and drums for the music
shots and these will be supplied by one of the crew members.
The dress code will just be casual/ hippy so a lot of colors this
will be easy as most of the cast already dress like that as it is
how they dress casually.
We will need to use skateboards for some of the
action shots but all of the crew have their own
boards.
26. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your
music video
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or
your video, establish the relationship between the visuals
and the track itself and create a structure for you to
follow when filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the video before
you make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
Pre-visualisation and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
27. PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you
to approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that
have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:

hunger-games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
28. PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
Direction and Visuals
An action shot of a skateboarder going down the road
would look good.
Here we have a shot of a figure in
the distance and also a figure stood
in a field. I like this kind of shot and
would like to have this in the video.
Maybe try black and white
29. PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
I like the idea of flame light although
it could be too dark. It gives
interesting shadows and different
light.
Playing the drums inside the house. I like the
second picture with the cloudy effect, not sure how
to do that.
30. PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
Outdoor shots to have good light and crew to
wear bright, hippy clothes
Various camera shots and different angles. I will need to see
what works with individual and group shots of the crew.

32. RIP-O-MATIC
You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic
test reel using existing footage to convey the type of
video you want to make
Create the RIP-O-MATIC and put the link in here with a
brief description.
33. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN
Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g. intro,
verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad visual ideas to
each section
You can use this as the master template for your
production, then add more shots to each section when
you develop your full visual plan
You should create a slide showing all the sections of the
song, then add a slide for each section with timings,
lyrics, what happens and details on specific shots
You could storyboard and shot list each section as you
go, to break up the process.
35. STORYBOARDING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:

Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and
scan or copy to insert it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!

Include names, contact info, and defined roles at
difference stages of production, using a table is
suggested

These may change depending on who is
available for each shot. Also for some shots,
some people will be better at activities for
38. LOCATION INFORMATION
Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions
for filming, recce photos and floorplans [including
camera, equipment and cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest
solutions
39. LOCATIONS
I have 3 main locations that I would like to film. This is good as it means if I
cant film at one of them I can go film at the other one.
I think 2 of the locations are in the same bit of woods and the other one is a big
open bit of land.
All locations are in the local area and easy to get to.
Here is the open field in Harrogate.
40. LOCATIONS
All these locations have easy access as it is all public property so we can
legally film on there.
The main location I want to film is a woods in Harrogate as it has a few
different spots that would look nice in the video. The 2 spots in the woods 1 is
a big fallen tree and the other is an old cobble bridge over a little river.
There will be no problem accessing these locations as they are both on a
public footpath so is easy to access.
41. RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Assess each separate filming location using the
table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a
start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as
you progress your production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document,
you should evaluate if anything changes in production
and when you put control measures in place
You should add the table to each call sheet for each
location
42. Risk How Severit
y
Mitigation
Skating into a
car.
A collision on a skateboard
against a car would be really
bad for both people.
High If this happened during filming we would
probably have to call an ambulance to
prevent this we had people stopping cars
to eliminate this risk.
Causing fires. In my video we exploded
lighter for a cool looking
flame effect.
High This did have a risk for setting other
things of fire however we made sure to
do it on a hard concrete surface so it
couldn't’t spread if it did set fire.
Falls/ bails. A lot of the clips a skating
clips which did have some
risk as if one of us were to
fall the injury could be
anything from a scratch to
broken bones.
Mediu
m
We couldn't’t really prepare for this as it
is a risk we always face but we all carry
little first aid kits just incase and if it was
something more serier we may need to
call an ambulance however this is a risk
we face daily so its not that challenging.
Police/ security No one likes skaters skating
so while we was filming we
were kicked out of several
spots by police or security.
Mediu
m
We don’t really go to private property
spots so they cant do much other than
tell us to move.
Guitar string
snaps
While playing this song a
guitar sting could have
snapped.
Small This is an easy fix as they are all
replaceable and Tyler has a lot of spares.
Camera While we are filming the Small this actually did happen a lot however we
43. CONTINGENCY PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to
minimise the effect on production
You should consider the following areas: Technical,
Location, Personnel and Organisational areas [about 5
potential issues for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard
44. Technical / Other Problem Solutions
1. The camera stops
working and cannot be
repaired
Use an alternative camera for filming
either from college or from one of my
friends.
2. No power for the camera
during filming
Check the camera is charged overnight
before filming. Also take a portable
charger on location if I can
3. The skateboards are not
working
Take spare wheels and tools on site so we
can repair most of the things we need
45. Location Solutions
1. People are at the location
when I go to film
Go to one of the other locations as it will
be easy to get to and close by
2. I am not allowed to film
where I want to or get asked
to move on
Ask for permission to film or use an
alternative location
3. The weather is not a good
day for filming
Change the timetable to select a different
day with better weather. Look at the
longer forecast
4. I cannot carry all of the
stuff I need for filming in
difficult locations (i.e.
woods)
Ask the crew to help carry some of the kit
46. Personal Solutions
1. I am not allowed to film
where I want to or get asked
to move on
Ask for permission to film or use an
alternative location
2. I am ill or not able to film
for some reason
Change the schedule to film on another
day or ask someone to take the shots for
me if the weather is perfect
47. Organisational Solutions
1. The crew can’t make it
out when I want to do
filming
Take shots that do not need the crew or
change the schedule so they are available.
i.e. at weekends
2. Not able to use the iMacs
at college for the editing
48. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
Your schedule should budget a total of 10 hours for
production, that is for the filming and editing of your
project.
You should plan when you’re filming and how you intend
to use the in class days on your timetable/class schedule
49. Production
Schedule (weeks)
Number of Hours What am I doing in that week
Week 1 Pre-Production / Planning –
getting Tyler to produce the
music
Week 2 More Pre-Production /
Planning – checking I have all
the kit and have asked
friends for help filming
Week 3 Filming the video
Week 4 Editing the video
Week 5 Finish editing and write ups
50. CLEARANCE AND
PERMISSIONS
Any place you film and anyone you use in the filming of
your video must have a completed form
Blank forms are on Blackboard for you to complete and
