2. INTRODUCTION
Climate
Change in
Africa
โข African countries are vulnerable to climate change impacts & stresses
due to mismanagement of resources (social, technological and
financial) needed to adapt and build resilience
โข Hence, high and differential impacts of frequency and intensity of
exposure to climate change (seasonal and frequent droughts, floods,
rainstorms, heat waves etc) (Olayide et al., 2016; IPCC, 2015)
โข Climate change has wide-ranging effects/impacts on economic
sectors, including industries, agriculture, transportation, and
households
โข Over-exploitation of land resources including forests, desertification,
land degradation, increase in population and other anthropogenic
factors exacerbate impacts of climate change (IPCC, 2015; UNDP
2006).

๏ฑ Africa is faced with over-arching challenge of climate
change
๏ฑ Sectors of the economy are contributors, and platforms
for creative and sustainable solutions
๏ฑ Need for science-policy-practice interphase for effective
mitigation, adaptation, and resilience building
๏ฑ Technological and infrastructural development would
play significant roles
๏ฑ Stakeholders should ensure sustainable transition into
renewables and promotion of ecosystem-based solutions
