MGT 660 Full Course Assignments
MGT 660 Topic 1 CLC Mission and Vision Statements Analysis and Company Overview
This is a Collaborative Learning Community assignment.
Throughout this course, you will work in a CLC group on a strategic case analysis project. This
project consists of different parts you will complete each week that build on each other.
In addition to the CLC Strategic Case Analysis, you will be completing an Extended
Executive Summary in Topic 8, as an individual assignment. As you are completing the
Strategic Case Analysis with your CLC team, think about what you would do differently, if
working alone, so you are prepared for the individual assignment in Topic 8. In a similar
fashion, you will also need to complete individual assignments related to your CLC projects
in Topics 4-6.
Before starting your CLC project, you must go to Strategy Club and view the Sample Strategic Plan
for Colgate-Palmolive (2019) under the student resources section. This sample strategic plan is an
example of what your completed strategic case analysis should look like at the end of the course.
NOTE: Each member of your CLC group will need to read through and sign the CLC
Agreement. This needs to be completed and submitted to your instructor before the end of
Topic 1. The Instructor should not accept any assignments from any group that has not
submitted a completed CLC Agreement. At the end of the course, you will also be submitting
a Peer Review Evaluation for the CLC Project members.
Each CLC group will select a different company to use as a case study throughout the course.
There are 40 different companies listed in the textbooks for the course the CLC group may choose
from. As a CLC group, you must choose a specific company from the 30 options in the David text
(pages xiii and xiv) or one of the 10 ancillary companies from Section E of the Wheelen text. No two
groups should use the same company or companies in the same industry. Your instructor will help
ensure every group has a different company to analyze.
Team work is essential to your success on this project and this course. It is imperative that once
your project team is created, you decide how you will work together to complete the project. Plan
how you will communicate, collaborate, delegate, and share the work load. Identify technology tools
to assist you if needed. The success of the group falls on each individual.
Once your CLC group has selected a company and it has been approved by your instructor, follow
the directions to complete all the parts and steps listed below.
Part 1: Company Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats
Step 1: Go to the appropriate page in the textbook that describes the detailed case information
about your selected company. Read all the sections of the entire case and list what you consider to
be the firm’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Consider both internal and external
factors when compiling your list. Then, go to that firm’s website and locate and click on the link for
Investors. Click Annual Reports and then click 2017 Annual Report or Form 10K. Download this pdf
file to your desktop; peruse the information and add to your list of the firm’s strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats.
Step 2: Go to the IBISWorld or Business Source Complete websites for the relevant industry of your
selected company. Use this information to develop your list of strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats.
Step 3: Go to the Yahoo Finance website. Enter the stock symbol for your company. Note the
wealth of information on the company that may be obtained by clicking any item along the row
below the company name. You will use this data when you refine your lists of key external and
internal factors later in the course. Each factor listed for this exercise should include a percentage,
number, dollar, or ratio to reveal some quantified fact or trend. These factors provide the underlying
basis for a strategic plan because a firm strives to take advantage of strengths, improve
weaknesses, avoid threats, and capitalize on opportunities. Avoid vagueness in strategic planning.
Step 4: Go to Strategy Club and review the following resources:
 Live author videos
 Live case analysis presentation on Barnes & Noble
 Chapter and case updates
 Guidelines for presenting a strategic plan or case analysis
Step 5: Use your results from Steps 1-3 when completing this step. Under “Free Templates,”
download the latest version of the template. (We will refer to this template as the Strategic-Planning
Template throughout the course. Save it with the file name, “Your Company Name Strategic-
Planning Template”.) Click on each of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats
buttons in the template and carefully follow the instructions given for each to complete these four
sections of the template.
Step 6: Save the Excel file for use in later exercises. You will continue to add to this Strategic-
Planning Template throughout the course.
Part 2: Company Overview and Mission and Vision Statements
Follow the steps below to complete a single Word document to submit to your instructor:
Step 1: In 250-500 words, give an overview of the company, describing their business, brief history,
and your initial thoughts on the organization’s strategy and business model.
Step 2: Go to your project company’s website. Find the company’s vision and mission statements
and add them to your Word document.
Step 3: Assess the company’s current Mission and Vision statement and, in 250-500 words, explain
your analysis of its strengths and weaknesses.
Step 4: Write new and improved vision and mission statements for the firm, following the
information presented in Chapter 2 about the characteristics, qualities, components, and
importance of vision and mission statements.
Step 5: Explain in 100-150 words, how or why your proposed vision and mission statements are
better than the current statements, and how they could benefit the company moving forward.
Be sure to cite three to five relevant and credible sources in support of your content. Use only
sources found at the GCU Library, corporate websites, or those provided in Topic Materials.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to
become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

MGT 660 Topic 2 CLC-External Factor Evaluation Matrix and Competitive Profile Matrix
This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.
Throughout this course, you will work in a CLC group on a strategic case analysis project. This
project consists of different parts you will complete each week that build on each other.
Go to the Strategy Club website and review the Sample Strategic Plan for Colgate-Palmolive (2019)
under the student resources section. This sample strategic plan is an example of what your
completed strategic case analysis should look like at the end of the course
An essential part of strategic analysis is identifying, evaluating, and selecting strategies. The
Strategy-Formulation Analytical Framework assists you in this process. This framework consists of
three stages and nine tools. See Chapter 6 in the David text for an explanation of this framework.
Over the next few topics in the course, your CLC group will use many of these nine tools.
In this assignment, you will use two of these tools by completing the following:
Part 1: External Factor Evaluation (EFE) Matrix
Create an External Factor Evaluation Matrix for the CLC group’s selected company by completing
the following steps:
Step 1: See Chapter 3 of the David text to learn how to complete an EFE Matrix.
Step 2: Open your Strategic-Planning Template you started in Topic 1. Click on the EFE tab at the
bottom of the template.
Step 3: Complete the matrix using the external opportunities and threats you identified in the Topic
1 assignment. Make sure the factors you include are actionable, quantitative, comparative, and
specific.
Step 4: Use the online sources listed in Table 3-7 located in Chapter 3 of the David text to assist
you with your analysis and calculations. Be sure not to include strategies as opportunities; but do
include as many monetary amounts, percentages, numbers, and ratios as possible.
Step 5: In 250-350 words, write a brief explanation of the findings and implications of the data
identified in the EFE Matrix. See the Sample Strategic Plan for Colgate-Palmolive (2019) as an
example.
Part 2: Competitive Profile Matrix (CPM)
Develop a Competitive Profile Matrix for your CLC group’s selected company. Complete the
following steps.
Step 1: Refer to Chapter 3 of the David text to learn how to complete an CPM Matrix.
Step 2: Open your Strategic-Planning Template. Click on the CPM tab at the bottom of the
template.
Step 3: Refer back to the information provided for the team’s project case that you initially reviewed
in at the beginning of the Topic 1 assignment and review the section on competitors. Also view
online resources that compare the company with their primary competitor, or, if possible, two
closest competitors. You should also use the sources listed in Table 3-7.
Step 4: Prepare a CPM that includes the team’s company and two primary competitors.
Step 5: In 250-350 words, write a brief explanation of the findings and implications of the data
identified in the CPM. See the Sample Strategic Plan for Colgate-Palmolive (2019) as an example.
Submit the EFE Matrix, CPM and the brief explanation of implications of each and what it means to
the company. What steps could be taken to improve the company’s competitive advantage? (500-
700 words) Submit all parts of the assignment as one deliverable.
Be sure to cite three to five relevant and credible sources in support of your content. Use only
sources found at the GCU Library, corporate websites, or those provided in Topic Materials.

 Assume that the firm needs to secure capital to implement the strategy your team
proposes to recommend. Your instructor will give you an amount if the team doesn’t
determine an amount that will accommodate the production of the required reports.
 Use the information gathered above to prepare a projected income statement and balance
sheet for the firm using your Strategic-Planning Template.
 In 50-100 words each, provide an analysis overview for both the projected financial
statement and balance sheet.
Part III: Cash Value
Determine the Cash Value of the company by doing the following:
 Refer to and follow the steps given in Chapter 8 of the David text to learn how to
determine the cash value of your CLC group’s company.
 To construct this element of the project, it will be necessary for the team to make use of
the financial information provided initially about the company as well as the information
and data that you’ve discovered as a result of the research and assignments completed
thus far in the course.
 Calculate the financial worth of the firm based on four approaches: (1) the net worth
method, (2) the net income method, (3) the price-earnings ratio method, and (4) the
outstanding shares method.
 Use your Strategic-Planning Template to complete the company valuation tables.
 In 50-100 words, provide an analysis overview for this part. Calculate the average of the
four methods. State a dollar amount of how much the company is worth.
Part IV: Projected Financial Ratios
Prepare Projected Financial Ratios for your company by doing the following:
 Refer to and follow the steps given in Chapter 8 of the David text to learn how to prepare
projected financial ratios.
 If you completed the previous parts of this assignment, the template will generate
projected financial ratios after the team converts the firm’s financial statements to the
template format and then creates projected financial statements based on recommended
strategies.
 Compute the projected current ratio, debt-to-equity ratio, and return-on-investment ratio.
Use your Strategic-Planning Template to complete the company ratio tables.
 In 50-100 words, provide an analysis overview for this part. Also explain how the
projected ratios compare to the prior year ratios. Explain the importance of this
comparison.
Part V: Retained Earnings
Create a Retained Earnings Table by doing the following:
 Refer to and follow the steps given in Chapter 8 of the David text to learn how to complete
a retained earnings table.
 Use the data you have compiled about your company throughout the course to assist you.
 Use your Strategic-Planning Template to complete the company retained earnings table.
 In 50-100 words, provide an analysis overview for this part.
Part VI: Analysis
 In 350-750 words, summarize the importance of each of the parts above in this
assignment (Parts I-V). Explain how each of the steps contributes to the firm’s success
going forward.
Submit all parts of the assignment as one deliverable.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected,
and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines,
which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical

MGT 660 Topic 8 CLC Executive Summary / Presentation
This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.
The CLC team will submit two deliverables to complete this assignment. They are as follows:
 A finished Strategic Analysis with all sections completed over the previous seven weeks,
presented in a format similar to the Colgate-Palmolive example, that uses all of the data
from the Strategic Analysis template. Add an Executive Summary that features the
highlights and takeaways from each component of the analysis. Include any
revisions/corrections suggested by your instructor throughout the previous assignments.
 A 15-20-slide PowerPoint presentation that presents the Strategic Analysis, findings, and
resulting recommendations.
1. Be sure to consult pages Part 6 of the David text to assist you with this
assignment.
Incorporate relevant support from all the sources that have contributed to your learning in this class.
This will include articles listed in the syllabus as well as those discovered during your individual
(and team) research conducted to complete each segment of the Strategic Analysis.
Finally, while you determine what word count will be required to make and support your report and
recommendations, it is critical that you remember the following:
 Being too verbose is as damaging as not saying enough.
 Brevity is only effective if you have communicated every important element to the point
that those receiving the report can make what they determine to be “informed” decisions.
 Be sure to eliminate flowery, superfluous, over-embellished, if not misleading claims. Stick
to factual findings that have been used to formulate your recommendations.
So, the word count, while not quantified, must not fall short or go too long.

MGT 660 Topic 8 Benchmark – Extended Executive Summary and Presentation
From the very beginning of the class, while you’ve been working as member of a team you have,
also, been tasked with formulating individual thoughts as to what you would do differently if working
on the project, alone. At this point you will be required to capture those thoughts and submit them.
Individually, you will complete an “Extended” Executive Summary of 500-750 words. Extended in
that you must offer detailed comments on each element of the Strategic Case Analysis, while the
team’s Executive Summary will be the “highlights” (key points) of each section. The intent here is
to allow you enough opportunity to prove your grasp of the tools and concepts as you present, both
in writing and in a 6-9 minute video, your findings and recommendations for the case you and your
colleagues spent the last seven weeks developing. While it is not necessary for you to spend time
explaining the points of differentiation between you and your team members, it is very important
that you do explain how you came to the conclusions and recommendations you are submitting.
Do the following:
Complete an “Extended” Executive Summary by providing detailed comments on each
element of the Strategic Case Analysis you completed with your CLC group. Where
appropriate among the various elements of the Strategic Case Analysis, address the
following points:
1. Recommend strategic plans to improve the company’s competitive advantage.
2. Explain how leadership skills can be used to encourage innovation to improve the
company.
3. Recommend specific decisions company leadership can make in order to capitalize on
untapped business opportunities.
4. List the sources you used to inform the development of your strategic case analysis as
well as the sources that inform your suggestions in points a-c above.
Create an 6-9-minute video presentation of your extended executive summary. Do the
following:
1. In your video address all the points required in the instructions above. Make sure to
clearly and persuasively articulate the business decisions you recommend.
2. Also, in your presentation refer to your individual assignment in Topic 3. Explain how your
company’s practices contribute to the greater good, or not. Explain how elements of a
Christian Worldview could inform its practices to better contribute to the greater good.
3. Use PPT or other visuals to support your video presentation.
4. Refer to the information on pages 353-354 of the David text to help you develop your
presentation.

MGT 660 Full Course Assignments MGT 660 Topic 1 CLC Mission and Vision Statements Analysis and Company Overview This is a Collaborative Learning Community assignment. Throughout this course, you will work in a CLC group on a strategic case analysis project. This project consists of different parts you will complete each week that build on each other. In addition to the CLC Strategic Case Analysis, you will be completing an Extended Executive Summary in Topic 8, as an individual assignment. As you are completing the
  • 3. Strategic Case Analysis with your CLC team, think about what you would do differently, if working alone, so you are prepared for the individual assignment in Topic 8. In a similar fashion, you will also need to complete individual assignments related to your CLC projects in Topics 4-6. Before starting your CLC project, you must go to Strategy Club and view the Sample Strategic Plan for Colgate-Palmolive (2019) under the student resources section. This sample strategic plan is an example of what your completed strategic case analysis should look like at the end of the course. NOTE: Each member of your CLC group will need to read through and sign the CLC Agreement. This needs to be completed and submitted to your instructor before the end of Topic 1. The Instructor should not accept any assignments from any group that has not submitted a completed CLC Agreement. At the end of the course, you will also be submitting a Peer Review Evaluation for the CLC Project members. Each CLC group will select a different company to use as a case study throughout the course. There are 40 different companies listed in the textbooks for the course the CLC group may choose from. As a CLC group, you must choose a specific company from the 30 options in the David text (pages xiii and xiv) or one of the 10 ancillary companies from Section E of the Wheelen text. No two groups should use the same company or companies in the same industry. Your instructor will help ensure every group has a different company to analyze. Team work is essential to your success on this project and this course. It is imperative that once your project team is created, you decide how you will work together to complete the project. Plan how you will communicate, collaborate, delegate, and share the work load. Identify technology tools to assist you if needed. The success of the group falls on each individual. Once your CLC group has selected a company and it has been approved by your instructor, follow the directions to complete all the parts and steps listed below. Part 1: Company Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats Step 1: Go to the appropriate page in the textbook that describes the detailed case information about your selected company. Read all the sections of the entire case and list what you consider to be the firm’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Consider both internal and external factors when compiling your list. Then, go to that firm’s website and locate and click on the link for Investors. Click Annual Reports and then click 2017 Annual Report or Form 10K. Download this pdf file to your desktop; peruse the information and add to your list of the firm’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Step 2: Go to the IBISWorld or Business Source Complete websites for the relevant industry of your selected company. Use this information to develop your list of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Step 3: Go to the Yahoo Finance website. Enter the stock symbol for your company. Note the wealth of information on the company that may be obtained by clicking any item along the row below the company name. You will use this data when you refine your lists of key external and internal factors later in the course. Each factor listed for this exercise should include a percentage, number, dollar, or ratio to reveal some quantified fact or trend. These factors provide the underlying basis for a strategic plan because a firm strives to take advantage of strengths, improve weaknesses, avoid threats, and capitalize on opportunities. Avoid vagueness in strategic planning. Step 4: Go to Strategy Club and review the following resources:  Live author videos  Live case analysis presentation on Barnes & Noble  Chapter and case updates
  • 4.  Guidelines for presenting a strategic plan or case analysis Step 5: Use your results from Steps 1-3 when completing this step. Under “Free Templates,” download the latest version of the template. (We will refer to this template as the Strategic-Planning Template throughout the course. Save it with the file name, “Your Company Name Strategic- Planning Template”.) Click on each of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats buttons in the template and carefully follow the instructions given for each to complete these four sections of the template. Step 6: Save the Excel file for use in later exercises. You will continue to add to this Strategic- Planning Template throughout the course. Part 2: Company Overview and Mission and Vision Statements Follow the steps below to complete a single Word document to submit to your instructor: Step 1: In 250-500 words, give an overview of the company, describing their business, brief history, and your initial thoughts on the organization’s strategy and business model. Step 2: Go to your project company’s website. Find the company’s vision and mission statements and add them to your Word document. Step 3: Assess the company’s current Mission and Vision statement and, in 250-500 words, explain your analysis of its strengths and weaknesses. Step 4: Write new and improved vision and mission statements for the firm, following the information presented in Chapter 2 about the characteristics, qualities, components, and importance of vision and mission statements. Step 5: Explain in 100-150 words, how or why your proposed vision and mission statements are better than the current statements, and how they could benefit the company moving forward. Be sure to cite three to five relevant and credible sources in support of your content. Use only sources found at the GCU Library, corporate websites, or those provided in Topic Materials. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. • 15. MGT 660 Topic 8 CLC Executive Summary / Presentation This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment. The CLC team will submit two deliverables to complete this assignment. They are as follows:  A finished Strategic Analysis with all sections completed over the previous seven weeks, presented in a format similar to the Colgate-Palmolive example, that uses all of the data from the Strategic Analysis template. Add an Executive Summary that features the highlights and takeaways from each component of the analysis. Include any revisions/corrections suggested by your instructor throughout the previous assignments.  A 15-20-slide PowerPoint presentation that presents the Strategic Analysis, findings, and resulting recommendations. 1. Be sure to consult pages Part 6 of the David text to assist you with this assignment. Incorporate relevant support from all the sources that have contributed to your learning in this class. This will include articles listed in the syllabus as well as those discovered during your individual (and team) research conducted to complete each segment of the Strategic Analysis. Finally, while you determine what word count will be required to make and support your report and recommendations, it is critical that you remember the following:  Being too verbose is as damaging as not saying enough.  Brevity is only effective if you have communicated every important element to the point that those receiving the report can make what they determine to be “informed” decisions.  Be sure to eliminate flowery, superfluous, over-embellished, if not misleading claims. Stick to factual findings that have been used to formulate your recommendations. So, the word count, while not quantified, must not fall short or go too long.
