3. I will answer you
:about
•What is saliva?
•How to secrete saliva?
•What are the causes of increased
secretion of saliva?
•What methods of treatment increase
the secretion of saliva?
4. Saliva
Saliva is a
transparent fluid
that is produced by
some cells of the
body .
It is chemically
neutral ,containing
water in large
amounts , salts ,
some proteins and
enzymes .
Saliva
Water
99.5%
Other
Solids
0.5%
5. Saliva is produced through the salivary glands in the
mouth with the effect of the parathyroid gland(20-25%)
where saliva is rich in serous cells and salts , which
increases the digestive capacity of the food.
The sublingual gland and the submandibular gland(70-
75%) also produce high viscosity saliva because it
contains more mucous substances.
6. There is a lot of
controversy about the
amount of saliva
produced daily in
healthy people , the
amount may range
form (0,72-1.5) liters
per day , while almost
absent during the
sleep .
7. I suffer from a lot of
saliva in the mouth and
even during sleep, what
causes and what
treatment?
8. Causes of increasing daily secretion of saliva
The causes of increased salivary
secretions vary depending on the
location of the secretion . And
these reasons :
1- The presence of a substance or
body between the teeth , injury
to the enamel of the teeth or the
crown of the teeth ,swelling of
the gums broken teeth , and the
presence of abscess from the
roots of the teeth causes
increased salivation
9. 2- Gastrointestinal problems such as
gastrointestinal bloating , gastritis or
liver disease.
3-Respiratory infection of diseases
such as obstruction of the nose and
pneumonia .
4- the presence of nutritional problems
such as folic acid deficiency , increased
fluoride , vitamins C deficiency .
5- Nervous tension , mental
retardation and some neurological
diseases .
10. Methods of treatment of increased
secretion in the saliva
At the beginning of the
diagnosis of the injury and
know the reasons that led
to increased secretion to
choose the appropriate
treatment method and the
most important methods of
treatment :
11. 1- Take medications such as
Scopolamine and Atropine.
2- Topical injections that
paralyze the nerve that
stimulates salivary gland.
3- use of medical parts on the
teeth to control the jaw and
mouth bones.
4- use physical therapy to
strengthen the muscles of the
mouth.
