Her life of truth
Anita Cole welcoming Joey Albert after her concert last 11/25/05
W
e have been
writing up al
most every-
thing about Virgie’s Filipino
Restaurant yet we haven’t ad-
dressed the buzzing question
as to who the owner is.
People ask, they peek quick
glances, searching for aling
Virgie behind the counter or
the kitchen; yet the only
Virgie they see is Tita Virgie,
a regular customer who hap-
pens to drop by every now
and then with her special
other half.
Let me introduce you to
Anita C. Cole, owner of
Virgie’s Filipino Restaurant.
Anita, by profession, is a
banking and finance graduate,
withvastexperienceinherreal
profession since the 70s.
When she migrated to Califor-
nia, she fell in love, had a
child, then decided to be inde-
pendently self-employed.
Anita delved into the au-
tomotive industry selling
specialty paints. She be-
came successful that she had
multiple partnership offer-
ings for business ventures.
This lady has very good in-
ter-personal relationship
skills with people because of
her genuine attitude towards
them. She has no problem
showing how happy or an-
noyed she is. The only prob-
lem she face is when people
can’t be as honest with her.
Life obviously give
challenges and it becomes
more intense as we grow
older. Everyone has it.
Anita is no exception.
The restaurant, in essence,
fell into her lap. She planned
to invest her capital into this
establishment, get returns
then gracefully step out, giv-
ing the full ownership back to
the family who previously op-
erated it. Unfortunately,
Anita had to protect her inter-
ests. Friends and business as-
sociates gathered around her
and managed to protect her in-
vestment from falling apart.
True to herself, Anita
knows how to look back and
show her appreciation. This
is why she’s taking this oppor-
tunity to thank the Dizon fam-
ily, particularly Jing and
Sheila, who sacrificed a lot of
their time and effort in keep-
ing the restaurant together.
Jing gathered up his entire
family and friends to support
Virgies during its most chal-
lenging period. Dan Dizon,
Jing’s cousin, took the respon-
sibility of putting the best
sound equipments, and hosted
the first few months of
karaoke events.
Anita likewise acknowledge
all of her staff who sacrificed
alongside her. The whole
staff shows tremendous
dedication in their service.
No matter what difficulties
they face together, they are
one real family. With the
term, real, because Anita al-
ready set the expectation
that life is all about reality,
devoid of rose-colored
glasses. Commitment, dedi-
cation and honesty to each
other are the keys to build-
ing a strong relationship.
This is what Anita is all
about, honesty and truth. Life
is easier to live when you are
honest with yourself.
Life will definitely take
you for a joy ride; but it’s up
to your sense of truth and de-
termination how you will
come out of it - smell like a
rose or something that came
out of the sewer. Your choice.
As far as Virgie’s is con-
cerned,Anita’s strength for the
restaurant comes from her
strong confidence towards her
personnel, including the hosts,
inadditiontoherdreamofpro-
viding the Filipino community
with the best service, the best

that she hopes will be recog-
nized by mainstream food crit-
ics and enthusiasts throughout
the United States. ***

Concert ProducersLooking at the big picture of
Filipino entertainment here in
the United States, we are grate-
ful to the individuals or group
of capitalists who brings in ce-
lebrities from the Philippines to
entertain their migrant country-
men that are home sick for their
motherland.
The presence of our Philip-
pine celebrities help alleviate
the melancholic nostalgias of
childhood memories.
Sadly, for every batch of har-
vest, there will be one or two
bad crops in the group.
Intentions and motives are
considerably checked whether
theprojectisbeingsincerelypro-
duced for the people or simply
to feed the ego or line the pock-
ets with profits, while the crew
getsscrewed,thehiredhandsget
fiddled and the sponsors tricked
to the king’s invisible wardrobe.
There are producers out in
the field who are genuine and
professional with their deal-
ings. Despite the lack of
horn-blowing or voice for the
silent majority, these produc-
tion entities are appreciated
and acknowledged, while
those who stand on shady
grounds will be losing their
footing very shortly. *** Boy Katindig, Filipino’s mainstream jazz representative

In March of this year, the
FBI’s Los Angeles Division
arrested several people who
were alleged participants in a
mortgage fraud scheme that
generated an estimated $30
million in profits. The case is
an example of real estate-re-
lated fraud, a multimillion-
dollar industry.
Three people were arrested
on federal charges of con-
spiracy, identity theft and
bank fraud in connection with
the alleged scheme, which
reportedly defrauded banks
and other lenders by obtain-
ing hundreds of mortgage
loans using stolen or fictitious
identities of at least 50 vic-
tims, FBI officials announced.
The bogus loan proceeds
were used “to support a lavish
lifestyle” of “extravagant
homes and luxurious cars,”
according to the report. The

Presenting an underwriter
with the best-possible picture
of a difficult borrower takes
packaging. The borrower’s
loan package should read like
a book, flowing clearly from
loan-transmittal summary to
the borrower’s application;
credit-worthiness documenta-
tion, such as a credit report;
income documentation that
supports the debts; property
documents, such as a title
commitment and appraisal;
and proper legal disclosures.
At the end of the story, tough
borrowers receive under-
writer approval for loans that
meet their financial goals.
That’s the mark of true mort-
gage professionals.
Theseprofessionalsanalyze
the borrower’s situation and
determine what additional
documentation must support
troublesome areas. They use
their vast knowledge of avail-
able loan programs that will
accept the borrower’s issues.
Theyunderstandthattoomuch
information might not be what
underwriterswanttoknowand
that too little information can
cause delay of file approval
with suspension for additional
information.
Lenders who offer products
such as no-documentation,
stated-income and subprime
loans know how to price and
controltheirrisks.Mortgagepro-

Lenders plan for the risk
they take on different loan
programs offered. They man-
age this risk by seeking accu-
rate information to determine

if borrowers meet their under-
writing guidelines. False rep-
resentation leads to added
risks. Packaging then turns
into fraud and increased
lender risks when profession-
als knowingly misrepresent
borrowers to lenders.
Let’s say Sam buys an
owner-occupiedhomeinwhich
he never plans on living. It
doesn’tmatterifthehomeisfor
his mother — if he is not going
to occupy the home, it should
be considered an investment
property. Every owner-occu-
pied closing-loan package in-
cludes a disclosure that certi-
fies the borrower will occupy
the property. A packaging op-
tion would be to qualify with
an owner-occupied loan with
momasthemainborrowerand

co-borrower.
Many good loan programs
willfixmostborrowers’needs,
and a mortgage professional
should never resort to “cre-
ative financing” by altering
information, manufacturing
documents or outright lying.
Laws and guidelines are in
place for a reason. If borrow-
ers don’t qualify on their own
merits, there may be a reason
they shouldn’t get the loan.
If you don’t know a good
program to meet your chal-
lenging borrower’s needs, in-
crease your knowledge of the
industry and available loan
programs by reading leading
industry publications such as
Scotsman Guide, attending
local and national association
conferences and talking to
wholesale representatives in
your office. If your packaging
still doesn’t help your bor-
rowers qualify, let them know
what they must do to qualify
in the future.

Singing from the heart
T
here’s so many tal
ents I watched at
Virgie’s that I want
to write about; but something
is convicting me to put this
issue on priority and get back
with the singers on the next
issue. The issue that’s been
bugging me is some individu-
als telling me to suggest a
karaoke contest at Virgies be-
cause there are businesses
who are more than willing to
put up prizes for the winners.
Attractive; yet, the shoe
somehow didn’t fit right.
You see, the reason why
Virgie’s is exploding with
success in its karaoke nights
right now is because custom-
ers sing - without fear of ridi-
cule or humiliation.
Eventhough they hear laugh-
ter from the floor, they don’t
get embarrassed because they
know that all shows on stage
is meant to be fun, not to show
off who’s good, bad or worse.
If Virgies ever do a contest
and reward the talents that
have the stereotype quality of
a professional singer, then
the purpose of fun will be
completely defeated.
People with good singing
voices will begin to treat the
stage as a competition venue
while those that don’t have
much to offer the audience
will retreat back to their self-
conscious shells and may for-
ever shy-away from trying to
develop their innate talents.
Singing at Virgies is meant
to encourage people to start
singing from their heart - not
to display their egos and show
how good they are. Having or
deveoping a good singing
voice is exactly what the ob-
jective of Virgie’s manage-
ment is for its patrons.
But the overall intent is
for people to have fun, en-
joy the comedic hosts, get
to know other customers,
practice singing on-stage
with unprejudiced audi-
ences, and sometimes dance
to your heart’s content! ***

Paul Taylor was shocked to
find out that his band hired a

By the way, Boy recently
released his new CD album.

The R-Class for Classy Mom
Mercedez Benz (MB) fi-
nally arrived with a minivan
for the classy mom.
According to MB, the R-
Class is much slimmer and
shares a unibody platform
with the redesigned M-Class,
as well as air-suspension, all-
whell drive and a range of six
and eight-cylinder engines.
According to Richard
Newman, writer and journal-
ist for U.S. News, he was
given this vehicle to test drive
and he experienced a week
long of road-wavers, where
people honked, raced and
yelled at him to ask how’s the
drive. Newman also got cu-
rious on-lookers whenever
the vehicle’s parked, at a gro-
cery store or on his driveway.
Newman is already getting
the idea that R-Class is going
to be a hit to the consumer.
This journalist noted that
the R-Class is a thematic
cousin of the Chrysler Paci-
fica, with a rugged ethos pro-
file of an SUV, the driveability
of a sportswagon and the prac-
ticality of a minivan.
Newman assures that R-
Class don’t have sliding
doors; but there are three rows
of seats, including a plush
second-row captains’ chairs
that slide forward and back,
allowing a lavish legroom for
big adults. The mid-row seats
flops forward with the tug of
one latch, allowing kids to
climb onto the third row.
“R-Class” has an aeronau-
tical proportion of exterior that
extends to the cabin. It also
has a masculine, yet graceful
environment with elegant de-
sign. The R’s performance is
adept, the driver and passen-
ger receiving the feeling of
lightness and responsiveness
from the vehicle.
The 268 horsepower V-6 of
Newman’s R-350 is more
than adequate, aided by a su-
persmooth seven-speed auto-
matic transmission. Agility to
navigate through traffic is
awesome, Newman said. ***
Fashion police trash clothes

Show hosts are Stacy Lon-
don and Clinton Kelly, with
hairstylist Nick Arrojo and
makeup artist Carmindy.
If you haven’t seen this pro-
gram, it’s all about ambush-
ing an unsuspecting fashion
victim in the middle of what-
ever he or she is doing and
essentially humiliate the poor
individual before his/her fam-
ily, friends or co-workers.
The catch, however, is this
couple gives you a $5,000
credit card under your name
butyouhavetogiveyourbody
and mind to them including all
your current clothes that they
can trash away.
One example is Irene (right

ily and friends describe as a
beautiful girl with provocative
and inappropriate clothings to
be seen as a real professional in
her field as a realtor.
Irene’s workmates and col-
leagues contacted Stacy and
Clinton to persuade this
young woman to leave her
halter-tops and bustiers for
more appropriate clothes ex-
pected to be seen in offices.
Enough said, Irene went to
New York with Stacy and
Clinton and she got herself a
$5,000 fashion makeover in
seven days! ***
Ano’ng brand mo?
A
Defining deep-set eyes
Cynde Watson, senior
makeup artist for Bobbi
Brown Cosmetics, says it’s
most important to brighten the
eye area. She suggests using
pale shadows on the lids to
bring out the eyes. Try a shell,
taupe or subdued pastel.
Avoid dark shades in the
crease, which make eyes look
even more deep-set. If you
line your eyes, use a liquid
liner with an ultrafine brush.
About Face, make-up technique
The ultrathin line adds defi-
nition to the lashes, and draws
attention away from sunken
eye sockets. Decreasing hy-
perpigmentation around the
mouth According to derma-
tologist Cheryl Burgess, hy-
perpigmentation—that darker
ashen circle around the
mouth—commonly occurs
among people of color. It’s as
natural as darker elbows and
knees or circles beneath the
eyes (those not caused by lack
of sleep). To cover this area
around the mouth, Sam Fine
advises, “Camouflage it with
concealer and foundation,
like any other dark spot or
circle.” Makeup artist Watson
adds that using a foundation
with a yellow undertone will
offset the ashy color. She also
advises, “If you happen to
have facial hair in this area,
have it removed. It intensifies
the shadowy discoloration.”
To alleviate hyperpigmenta-
tion over time, try a moistur-
izer with alphahydroxy acids,
and don’t forget the SPF pro-
tection. If your case is severe,
see a dermatologist about a
prescriptive fade cream. Giv-
ing cheekbones a lift Use a
large blush brush to apply a
warm bronze or rose that
complements your skin.
Sweep the color along the
cheekbone toward the hair-
line. This will give the illu-
sion of shadow for definition.

  • 1. December 24, 2005 - January 7, 20062 Her life of truth Anita Cole welcoming Joey Albert after her concert last 11/25/05 W e have been writing up al most every- thing about Virgie’s Filipino Restaurant yet we haven’t ad- dressed the buzzing question as to who the owner is. People ask, they peek quick glances, searching for aling Virgie behind the counter or the kitchen; yet the only Virgie they see is Tita Virgie, a regular customer who hap- pens to drop by every now and then with her special other half. Let me introduce you to Anita C. Cole, owner of Virgie’s Filipino Restaurant. Anita, by profession, is a banking and finance graduate, withvastexperienceinherreal profession since the 70s. When she migrated to Califor- nia, she fell in love, had a child, then decided to be inde- pendently self-employed. Anita delved into the au- tomotive industry selling specialty paints. She be- came successful that she had multiple partnership offer- ings for business ventures. This lady has very good in- ter-personal relationship skills with people because of her genuine attitude towards them. She has no problem showing how happy or an- noyed she is. The only prob- lem she face is when people can’t be as honest with her. Life obviously give challenges and it becomes more intense as we grow older. Everyone has it. Anita is no exception. The restaurant, in essence, fell into her lap. She planned to invest her capital into this establishment, get returns then gracefully step out, giv- ing the full ownership back to the family who previously op- erated it. Unfortunately, Anita had to protect her inter- ests. Friends and business as- sociates gathered around her and managed to protect her in- vestment from falling apart. True to herself, Anita knows how to look back and show her appreciation. This is why she’s taking this oppor- tunity to thank the Dizon fam- ily, particularly Jing and Sheila, who sacrificed a lot of their time and effort in keep- ing the restaurant together. Jing gathered up his entire family and friends to support Virgies during its most chal- lenging period. Dan Dizon, Jing’s cousin, took the respon- sibility of putting the best sound equipments, and hosted the first few months of karaoke events. Anita likewise acknowledge all of her staff who sacrificed alongside her. The whole staff shows tremendous dedication in their service. No matter what difficulties they face together, they are one real family. With the term, real, because Anita al- ready set the expectation that life is all about reality, devoid of rose-colored glasses. Commitment, dedi- cation and honesty to each other are the keys to build- ing a strong relationship. This is what Anita is all about, honesty and truth. Life is easier to live when you are honest with yourself. Life will definitely take you for a joy ride; but it’s up to your sense of truth and de- termination how you will come out of it - smell like a rose or something that came out of the sewer. Your choice. As far as Virgie’s is con- cerned,Anita’s strength for the restaurant comes from her strong confidence towards her personnel, including the hosts, inadditiontoherdreamofpro- viding the Filipino community with the best service, the best ambienceandimpeccablefood that she hopes will be recog- nized by mainstream food crit- ics and enthusiasts throughout the United States. ***
  • 2. December 24, 2005 - January 7, 2006 3 Concert ProducersLooking at the big picture of Filipino entertainment here in the United States, we are grate- ful to the individuals or group of capitalists who brings in ce- lebrities from the Philippines to entertain their migrant country- men that are home sick for their motherland. The presence of our Philip- pine celebrities help alleviate the melancholic nostalgias of childhood memories. Sadly, for every batch of har- vest, there will be one or two bad crops in the group. Intentions and motives are considerably checked whether theprojectisbeingsincerelypro- duced for the people or simply to feed the ego or line the pock- ets with profits, while the crew getsscrewed, thehiredhandsget fiddled and the sponsors tricked to the king’s invisible wardrobe. There are producers out in the field who are genuine and professional with their deal- ings. Despite the lack of horn-blowing or voice for the silent majority, these produc- tion entities are appreciated and acknowledged, while those who stand on shady grounds will be losing their footing very shortly. *** Boy Katindig, Filipino’s mainstream jazz representative Si Boy! • 3. 21 December 24, 2005 - January 7, 2006 In March of this year, the FBI’s Los Angeles Division arrested several people who were alleged participants in a mortgage fraud scheme that generated an estimated $30 million in profits. The case is an example of real estate-re- lated fraud, a multimillion- dollar industry. Three people were arrested on federal charges of con- spiracy, identity theft and bank fraud in connection with the alleged scheme, which reportedly defrauded banks and other lenders by obtain- ing hundreds of mortgage loans using stolen or fictitious identities of at least 50 vic- tims, FBI officials announced. The bogus loan proceeds were used “to support a lavish lifestyle” of “extravagant homes and luxurious cars,” according to the report. The Anatomy of a mortgage fraud By Glenn Roberts Jr., excerpt from Inman News FBI served five search war- rants at three Orange County businessesandtworesidences. Alberto Mordoki, 44, of Fullerton; Mirella Mordoki, 35, of Fullerton; and Alejandro Sady-Kennedy, 44, of Ladera Ranch, were charged with conspiracy, identity theft and bank fraud. James Douglas Lus, 43, is a fugitive and is being sought by the FBI, according to the announcement. After purchasing the prop- erties using stolen or phony identities, the participants in the alleged scheme frequently “flipped” the properties by selling them at inflated prices, to yet another fraudulent or stolen identity, the FBI re- ported. “Defendants typically then took out a second mort- gage on the property to ex- haust all remaining equity. Some of the properties were flipped up to five times by the defendants, eventually allow- ing the property into foreclo- sure, resulting in losses to the banks and other commercial lenders. The victims of iden- tity theft suffered adverse ef- fects on their credit.” In addition to stealing iden- tities, defendants used many aliases to disguise themselves throughout the scheme. The complaint alleges thatAlberto Mordoki and his wife, Mirella Mordoki, obtained multiple Department of Motor Ve- hicles drivers licenses using different names, addresses and dates of birth, all using the same photograph. The defendants also provided other co-conspirators with fraudulent California driver’s licenses and other falsified identification. (Inman News)*** Presenting an underwriter with the best-possible picture of a difficult borrower takes packaging. The borrower’s loan package should read like a book, flowing clearly from loan-transmittal summary to the borrower’s application; credit-worthiness documenta- tion, such as a credit report; income documentation that supports the debts; property documents, such as a title commitment and appraisal; and proper legal disclosures. At the end of the story, tough borrowers receive under- writer approval for loans that meet their financial goals. That’s the mark of true mort- gage professionals. Theseprofessionalsanalyze the borrower’s situation and determine what additional documentation must support troublesome areas. They use their vast knowledge of avail- able loan programs that will accept the borrower’s issues. Theyunderstandthattoomuch information might not be what underwriterswanttoknowand that too little information can cause delay of file approval with suspension for additional information. Lenders who offer products such as no-documentation, stated-income and subprime loans know how to price and controltheirrisks.Mortgagepro- fessionalsalsoshouldnotalways ignorehowtheborrowerhandles payment after closing, though. False rep- resentation leads to added risks. Packaging then turns into fraud and increased lender risks when profession- als knowingly misrepresent borrowers to lenders. Let’s say Sam buys an owner-occupiedhomeinwhich he never plans on living. It doesn’tmatterifthehomeisfor his mother — if he is not going to occupy the home, it should be considered an investment property. Many good loan programs willfixmostborrowers’needs, and a mortgage professional should never resort to “cre- ative financing” by altering information, manufacturing documents or outright lying. Laws and guidelines are in place for a reason. If borrow- ers don’t qualify on their own merits, there may be a reason they shouldn’t get the loan. If you don’t know a good program to meet your chal- lenging borrower’s needs, in- crease your knowledge of the industry and available loan programs by reading leading industry publications such as Scotsman Guide, attending local and national association conferences and talking to wholesale representatives in your office. If your packaging still doesn’t help your bor- rowers qualify, let them know what they must do to qualify in the future. Naldy Gonzales of Side A Band, singing a duet with one of Virgie’s regular patrons, two days before their concert at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles last November. 27 Singing from the heart T here’s so many tal ents I watched at Virgie’s that I want to write about; but something is convicting me to put this issue on priority and get back with the singers on the next issue. The issue that’s been bugging me is some individu- als telling me to suggest a karaoke contest at Virgies be- cause there are businesses who are more than willing to put up prizes for the winners. Attractive; yet, the shoe somehow didn’t fit right. You see, the reason why Virgie’s is exploding with success in its karaoke nights right now is because custom- ers sing - without fear of ridi- cule or humiliation. Eventhough they hear laugh- ter from the floor, they don’t get embarrassed because they know that all shows on stage is meant to be fun, not to show off who’s good, bad or worse. If Virgies ever do a contest and reward the talents that have the stereotype quality of a professional singer, then the purpose of fun will be completely defeated. People with good singing voices will begin to treat the stage as a competition venue while those that don’t have much to offer the audience will retreat back to their self- conscious shells and may for- ever shy-away from trying to develop their innate talents. Singing at Virgies is meant to encourage people to start singing from their heart - not to display their egos and show how good they are. Having or deveoping a good singing voice is exactly what the ob- jective of Virgie’s manage- ment is for its patrons. But the overall intent is for people to have fun, en- joy the comedic hosts, get to know other customers, practice singing on-stage with unprejudiced audi- ences, and sometimes dance to your heart’s content! *** Boy Katindig with Paul Taylor at Disneyland in Anaheim ... more on boy katindig... We’re giving this space to honor our very own, Boy Katindig, who managed to be partofthePaulTaylorensemble. Paul Taylor’s band is now on a cross-country concert tour. And seeing our own Fili- pino brother performing alongside these celebrities gives me such pride and joy as to how Filipinos can actu- ally go toe-to-toe with the mainstream performers. Paul Taylor was shocked to find out that his band hired a Philippine jazz celebrity. They were not aware of Boy’s status until their concert in San Francisco. By the way, Boy recently released his new CD album. If you’re interested to pur- chase, just go to Virgin Records or Tower Records. Yes, Boy Katindig’s music quality deserves the main- stream retail rack. (NT) ***
  • 5. December 24 to January 6, 2006 25 The R-Class for Classy Mom Mercedez Benz (MB) fi- nally arrived with a minivan for the classy mom. According to MB, the R- Class is much slimmer and shares a unibody platform with the redesigned M-Class, as well as air-suspension, all- whell drive and a range of six and eight-cylinder engines. According to Richard Newman, writer and journal- ist for U.S. News, he was given this vehicle to test drive and he experienced a week long of road-wavers, where people honked, raced and yelled at him to ask how’s the drive. Newman also got cu- rious on-lookers whenever the vehicle’s parked, at a gro- cery store or on his driveway. Newman is already getting the idea that R-Class is going to be a hit to the consumer. This journalist noted that the R-Class is a thematic cousin of the Chrysler Paci- fica, with a rugged ethos pro- file of an SUV, the driveability of a sportswagon and the prac- ticality of a minivan. Newman assures that R- Class don’t have sliding doors; but there are three rows of seats, including a plush second-row captains’ chairs that slide forward and back, allowing a lavish legroom for big adults. The mid-row seats flops forward with the tug of one latch, allowing kids to climb onto the third row. “R-Class” has an aeronau- tical proportion of exterior that extends to the cabin. It also has a masculine, yet graceful environment with elegant de- sign. The R’s performance is adept, the driver and passen- ger receiving the feeling of lightness and responsiveness from the vehicle. The 268 horsepower V-6 of Newman’s R-350 is more than adequate, aided by a su- persmooth seven-speed auto- matic transmission. Agility to navigate through traffic is awesome, Newman said. *** Fashion police trash clothes The riveting TV program on Discovery Channel’s TLC, What Not To Wear is on its 4th season,goingtotheirfifthsome- time the first quarter of 2006. Show hosts are Stacy Lon- don and Clinton Kelly, with hairstylist Nick Arrojo and makeup artist Carmindy. If you haven’t seen this pro- gram, it’s all about ambush- ing an unsuspecting fashion victim in the middle of what- ever he or she is doing and essentially humiliate the poor individual before his/her fam- ily, friends or co-workers. The catch, however, is this couple gives you a $5,000 credit card under your name butyouhavetogiveyourbody and mind to them including all your current clothes that they can trash away. One example is Irene (right photo, center). Ireneisa25-year oldLosAngelesladywhosfam- ily and friends describe as a beautiful girl with provocative and inappropriate clothings to be seen as a real professional in her field as a realtor. Irene’s workmates and col- leagues contacted Stacy and Clinton to persuade this young woman to leave her halter-tops and bustiers for more appropriate clothes ex- pected to be seen in offices. Enough said, Irene went to New York with Stacy and Clinton and she got herself a $5,000 fashion makeover in seven days! *** Defining deep-set eyes Cynde Watson, senior makeup artist for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, says it’s most important to brighten the eye area. She suggests using pale shadows on the lids to bring out the eyes. Try a shell, taupe or subdued pastel. Avoid dark shades in the crease, which make eyes look even more deep-set. If you line your eyes, use a liquid liner with an ultrafine brush. About Face, make-up technique The ultrathin line adds defi- nition to the lashes, and draws attention away from sunken eye sockets. Decreasing hy- perpigmentation around the mouth According to derma- tologist Cheryl Burgess, hy- perpigmentation—that darker ashen circle around the mouth—commonly occurs among people of color. It’s as natural as darker elbows and knees or circles beneath the eyes (those not caused by lack of sleep). To cover this area around the mouth, Sam Fine advises, “Camouflage it with concealer and foundation, like any other dark spot or circle.” Makeup artist Watson adds that using a foundation with a yellow undertone will offset the ashy color. She also advises, “If you happen to have facial hair in this area, have it removed. It intensifies the shadowy discoloration.” To alleviate hyperpigmenta- tion over time, try a moistur- izer with alphahydroxy acids, and don’t forget the SPF pro- tection. If your case is severe, see a dermatologist about a prescriptive fade cream. Giv- ing cheekbones a lift Use a large blush brush to apply a warm bronze or rose that complements your skin. Sweep the color along the cheekbone toward the hair- line. This will give the illu- sion of shadow for definition.

The management learned that Emily went back to her hotel to change clothes. Wilmer was forced to stay on- stage and deliver three more songs. Thank God he’s ready and prepared.
