• The client may be a person, a board of directors, government officials or a business .
• Architects lead a team of professionals including structural, mechanical, electrical engineers & others.
• Architects must also be well versed with building codes, bylaws set by municipal, provincial & central
governments.
• They are well organised and are on time & budget with technical skills.
• Architecture is more of being creative & designing something beautiful in making a vision come to
reality, and of all it’s a business.
• It starts with the commission or contract from a client.
• This commission may involve the design of a single building or a group of buildings and also dealing the
spaces in them and between them.
6. THEY DRAW
• Architects come up with simple diagrams link between spaces or activities.
• Detailed working drawings which showcases even the minute detailing.
• Contractors and sub-contractors estimate the cost of the project based on the working drawings of an Architect.
• These drawings & designs are been constructed.
• Taking a drawing off the page and onto the computer screen through 3-D computer modelling can bring an
Architect’s design to life, in living colour!
• Scale models or animated videos that help the viewer “see” the project from start to finish are other ways
Architects present ideas to the public or clients.
7. THEY WRITE
Architects Must
• Document all the aspects of a project.
• Write business letters.
• Develop charts & tables to analyse the project.
• Develop specifications which define the building.
• Sometimes prepare articles for professional journals and
magazines.
THEY TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
• When an Architect “signs–off” on a certificate, it means that part of the job has been completed to the Architect’s
satisfaction.
• Several certificates are signed-off during contract.

• During the construction phase, Architects manage contract administration, oversee drawing specifications, handle
problems that arise on the job site and monitor work in progress.
• They must also manage projects from the scratch of developing idea to designing and construction of the
building.

• It has to add up! Architects must be able to prepare accurate construction and office budgets.
• They also have to understand structural analysis, heat loads, electrical distribution and traffic flows.
9. HOW CAN I BECOME AN ARCHITECT?
To be a licensed Architect, you will need

• Majority of students, who wanted to pursue Architecture ,initially go
through an entrance exam called “Nata “ formed by the Council of
Architecture (COA) India.
• Once they get through this students complete 5 years of B.Arch. Degree or
M. Arch degree from a university program approved by Council of
Architecture (COA) India.
EXPERIENCE
EXAMINATION
• During the course of Architecture Program, there is a complete one year
internship before completing the course, through which field experiences
can be gained.
• If you get accepted, you will require a “Mentor” (a licensed Architect) who
will guide the work over a period of time, according to the rules of the
Internship Program.
• In all provinces, passing the final year with “Thesis” is one of the final steps
in becoming a licensed Architect.
• Once this is done ,you will been licensed by the Council of Architecture
(COA).
11. WHY MUST ARCHITECTS BE LICENSED?
• Architects are professionals.
• The public must be sure that people who claim themselves Architects are qualified to practice in
their field.
• So, all across India, Architects are licensed by provincial authorities.
• The goals of the association are
a) To encourage members improve their skills & knowledge.
b) To maintain high standards in the practice of architecture; like other professionals, such as
lawyers & doctors .
• Architects are legally responsible for the decisions they make.
• In few countries, all licensed Architects must have professional liability insurance if they wish to
practice Architecture.
• Every province has an “Architects Act” which regulates the practice of Architecture.
