B. Review
Ask, “What are the importance of the forest to humans?” Play music
(Mother Nature Needs Us) and let the pupils pass the “crown of knowledge”
from their head to the other. If the music stops, let the pupil wearing the crown
give his idea. Repeat the activity until most of the pupils gave their ideas.
C. Lesson Proper
Divide the class into four groups. Give each group a task card to work
on.
Task Card A
In your group, discuss together and get the idea of each of the members
regarding the following question:
1. What do you understand about deforestation?
2. What causes deforestation?
2. Task Card B
Have a cooperative discussion in your group about the answer for the
following questions:
1. What do you know about deforestation?
2. What are the effects of deforestation?
Task Card C
Talk among yourselves the answer of the following questions:
1. Describe a deforested area.
2. Who were directly affected if the mountains were deforested and
how are they affected?
Task Card D
Discuss among yourselves the answer of the following questions:
1. What are the activities of man that destroys our forest area?
2. What could happen if these activities of man continue to be
practiced?
Let each group present their group’s output, and then process them by
summing up their ideas and giving more insights.
Flash pictures of the effects of deforestation and have the pupils
describe each. Have them enumerate how to avoid these incidents in the
pictures.
D. Generalization
Ask, “What would happen if the forests are destroyed?”
Then, recite the poem about deforestation:
Deforestation
Converting the forest into the barren land
Beautiful landscapes are mechanized by man
Buildings and more buildings
nature is losing its charm
Mother Nature always gave you what you needed
She did her best to bring you joy,
But look how you have disgraced her?
You destroyed and wasted the gifts she offered you ever.
3. E. Application
Group the class into two. Direct each group to role play, “Preventing
Forest Destruction”
IV. Evaluation
Let the pupils answer these questions with the help of the “Crown of
Knowledge” and the “Mark of Problem”. The “Crown of Knowledge” is passed
from head to another but if the music stops the pupil wearing the crown will pick a
question from the “Mark of Problem” and answers it.
1. How does a deforested forest look like?
2. What will happen if the forests are destroyed?
3. What should people do to avoid soil erosion?
4. How do people prevent the occurrence of flood in low lying areas?
5. What could be the possible cause of water shortage in the community?
Ask the pupils to work by three and make a slogan regarding the effects of
deforestation. Have them present their work in front.
