Africa’s Internet for its

STRATEGIC PARTNERS

Core2Africa Networks (Core2Africa) is a specialised company that focuses
on the architecture, design and deployment of IP/MPLS and Ethernet
infrastructures for service providers along with the following sectors:
- Internet service providers
- Carriers
- Mobile operators
- Application service providers
- Broadband access networks
We believe that our expertise in the development of
efficient, scalable infrastructure architectures and
supporting systems will enable operators to cost optimise
their environments whilst providing improved network
availability, performance and customer experience.
Core2Africa strives to offer complete infrastructure
solutions and/or enhancements that will enable the
service provider to provision and maintain profitable
services to their customers. Our view of a complete
infrastructure extends considerably beyond the
equipment and the network and includes the following
topics:
> Information on traffic patterns and
		 service performance
> Network optimisation
> Risk analysis and mitigation
> Comprehensive design from physical facilities
		 to protocols and services
> Information on traffic patterns and
		 service performance
> Ongoing maintenance and sustainability
of the service to the customer
> Service creation and definition
> Activation and provisioning of services to customers
In order to achieve these goals, the company is a firm
believer in multi-vendor environments and will support
vendors that we feel will provide the ‘best of breed’
technological solutions for specific functional areas.
Hence, we have entered into strategic alliances with key
vendors whom we believe will assist us in making our
customers more competitive.
The highly experienced team has vast background
in what is arguably the largest and most advanced IP/
MPLS service provider infrastructure on the sub-Saharan
African continent. This experience covers all aspects from
the physical fibre planted in the ground, through complex
network protocols to the development of the services
delivered to customers.
CORE2AFRICA NETWORK EVOLUTION APPROACH
As data services grow exponentially in an increasingly
competitive environment, which is creating increased
price pressure which is leading to significant and
repeated price compression. At the same time, voice
revenues which are still dominant are on the decline
and data services are consuming the vast majority of
bandwidth capacity where the underlying network
infrastructure is undergoing transformation to packet-
based technologies of IP/MPLS and Ethernet. This is
creating a situation where operators need to carefully
manage and reduce the total cost of operating the
network whilst at the same time meet customer
expectations for increased performance, quality and
reliability.
Making the situation more challenging to manage
is the typical way in which packet-based technologies
have evolved within most operators. These challenges
include the setup of islands of disparate infrastructure
that have been built for different requirements. These
islands have tended to be quite small and have been
deployed in a fashion that suits the short term objectives,
minimized cost to the supplier rather than the long term,
total cost of ownership to the operator. The pressures
of these rapidly evolving customer services are creating
a challenging situation where disparate environments
are required to interwork with each other and the global
Internet. This interaction usually starts in an informal, ad
hoc fashion and rapidly becomes difficult and costly to
manage, operate, scale and troubleshoot.
Core2Africa’s philosophy to taking on the challenge
of reducing the total cost of ownership whilst improving
network performance and reliability is to evolve the
environment into a structured and modular, converged
services environment with well-defined roles and
responsibilities of the various network components.
In order to achieve this, the following are the major
activities that take place, namely:
> Convergence: This is the process of consolidating
multiple disparate, packet-based environments into a
single seamless network infrastructure.
> Consolidation: This is the process of eliminating
duplicate components in the network in order to improve
the total cost of ownership and reliability and reduce the
complexity of management.
> Simplification: This is the process of streamlining the
underlying network complexity and eliminating complex,
inefficient interfaces and configurations. Key to this
is to develop standardized and structured methods of
deploying services.
> Automation: This entails the use of systems to
perform common, repetitive and tedious tasks that are
often prone to human error.
Key to the evolution of converged services
networks is the separation required between the ever-
increasing range of diverse services and the underlying
network infrastructure. In order to build a sustainable
environment it is vital to take a structured and modular
approach considering the end-to-end requirements and
network infrastructure. The diagram below displays the
approach that has been adopted by Core2Africa.

  • 3. Core2Africa Networks (Core2Africa) is a specialised company that focuses on the architecture, design and deployment of IP/MPLS and Ethernet infrastructures for service providers along with the following sectors: - Internet service providers - Carriers - Mobile operators - Application service providers - Broadband access networks We believe that our expertise in the development of efficient, scalable infrastructure architectures and supporting systems will enable operators to cost optimise their environments whilst providing improved network availability, performance and customer experience. Core2Africa strives to offer complete infrastructure solutions and/or enhancements that will enable the service provider to provision and maintain profitable services to their customers. Our view of a complete infrastructure extends considerably beyond the equipment and the network and includes the following topics: > Information on traffic patterns and service performance > Network optimisation > Risk analysis and mitigation > Comprehensive design from physical facilities to protocols and services > Information on traffic patterns and service performance > Ongoing maintenance and sustainability of the service to the customer > Service creation and definition > Activation and provisioning of services to customers In order to achieve these goals, the company is a firm believer in multi-vendor environments and will support vendors that we feel will provide the ‘best of breed’ technological solutions for specific functional areas. Hence, we have entered into strategic alliances with key vendors whom we believe will assist us in making our customers more competitive. The highly experienced team has vast background in what is arguably the largest and most advanced IP/ MPLS service provider infrastructure on the sub-Saharan African continent. This experience covers all aspects from the physical fibre planted in the ground, through complex network protocols to the development of the services delivered to customers. CORE2AFRICA NETWORK EVOLUTION APPROACH As data services grow exponentially in an increasingly competitive environment, which is creating increased price pressure which is leading to significant and repeated price compression. At the same time, voice revenues which are still dominant are on the decline and data services are consuming the vast majority of bandwidth capacity where the underlying network infrastructure is undergoing transformation to packet- based technologies of IP/MPLS and Ethernet. This is creating a situation where operators need to carefully manage and reduce the total cost of operating the network whilst at the same time meet customer expectations for increased performance, quality and reliability. Making the situation more challenging to manage is the typical way in which packet-based technologies have evolved within most operators. These challenges include the setup of islands of disparate infrastructure that have been built for different requirements. These islands have tended to be quite small and have been deployed in a fashion that suits the short term objectives, minimized cost to the supplier rather than the long term, total cost of ownership to the operator. The pressures of these rapidly evolving customer services are creating a challenging situation where disparate environments are required to interwork with each other and the global Internet. This interaction usually starts in an informal, ad hoc fashion and rapidly becomes difficult and costly to manage, operate, scale and troubleshoot. Core2Africa’s philosophy to taking on the challenge of reducing the total cost of ownership whilst improving network performance and reliability is to evolve the environment into a structured and modular, converged services environment with well-defined roles and responsibilities of the various network components. In order to achieve this, the following are the major activities that take place, namely: > Convergence: This is the process of consolidating multiple disparate, packet-based environments into a single seamless network infrastructure. > Consolidation: This is the process of eliminating duplicate components in the network in order to improve the total cost of ownership and reliability and reduce the complexity of management. > Simplification: This is the process of streamlining the underlying network complexity and eliminating complex, inefficient interfaces and configurations. Key to this is to develop standardized and structured methods of deploying services. > Automation: This entails the use of systems to perform common, repetitive and tedious tasks that are often prone to human error. Key to the evolution of converged services networks is the separation required between the ever- increasing range of diverse services and the underlying network infrastructure. In order to build a sustainable environment it is vital to take a structured and modular approach considering the end-to-end requirements and network infrastructure. The diagram below displays the approach that has been adopted by Core2Africa.
