• Started in 1965, ChemCo is a leading manufacturer of car batteries in the
U.K. market. Since then, it has been under the charge of Mr. Jones, the
founder-owner of the firm. In 1999, the company decided to go for a
diversification by expanding the product line. The new product was
batteries for fork-lift trucks. At the same time, Mr. Marek was appointed
the Senior Vice President of marketing in the company. However, soon
after its successful diversification into fork-lift batteries, the sales in this
segment began dropping steadily. Mr. Marek wanted to introduce some
radical changes in the advertising and branding of the new business but
the proposal was turned down by the old-fashioned Mr. Jones.

Editor's Notes
Hmmmm, what are you thinking? Any guess? What would be my topic for the day?
Well hum sab mein kahi kahi na kahi ek thota detective hota hai..jo sawal karta hai..like, usne ye new mobile kaha se li? Are vo aaj uske saath hai, kaise? Aaj vo kyo nhi aaya/aayi? So on…. And we try to solve in our own way..
So, first of all we all face problems and Situation, could be small could be XXXL… Right?
Tell me aap kaise solve karte ho koi bhi issue ko? Call one Jagga Jasoos:
Like aaj exam hai, aur bike kharab… pocket mein 10 rs. Hai…, phone ka balance nill hai….bike jaha kharab hui hai, vo bilkul sunsaan area hai…ek kutta bhi nhi dikh raha…
Comon, tell me how to address this situation?
Give situation chit and ask him…..
Give situation chit and ask another jasoos.
Well, was it easy? Yes.
So, today we will understand Case Study…. Behind the scene…..
Before that, why we refer case study? What is Case Study? It actually help us to understand situation… and possible solution.
Case study is bunch of situation, some time small , some time big with mix of different flavour and spice of problems. In corporate world there are millions of cases, in fact Harvard teach concept with the help of case study. Its like seeing a ice cream which shows you it has strawberry, nuts but until unless you don’t taste it does not give you to decide its feel.
So is case study is like Maze solving?
Coz, every Maze is different, so every case is different.
Steps can be ideal to solve a case, you can escape few steps, but you need to follow the step. Like we eat dessert at last not soup. Koi hai jo soup last mein pita hai aur desert last mein? ASK ha ek possibility ho sakti hai, desert pehle bhi aur baad mein bhi.
Solution can differ, as per your decision. There can be ideal solution, jaisa hindi movies mein hota hai… Happy End..But still if you can convince, your solution can be different, but should be practical. No hypothetical… Like Mission Impossible kind of….

Yes, after making notes, we can make few assumption, and you have to mention this while solving a case, that you have taken these assumptions. Assumption can help you to make a BIG PICTURE, so that you can move around the assumption.
Illustrative: one or two instance, general
Pilot: condensed case study, used before large implementation.
Cumulative: collect information from various site/sources
Critical: unique interest
What appears to be the problem(s) here?
How do I know that this is a problem? Note that by asking this question, you will be helping to differentiate the symptoms of the problem from the problem itself. Example: while declining sales or unhappy employees are a problem to most companies, they are in fact, symptoms of underlying problems which need to addressed.
What are the immediate issues that need to be addressed? This helps to differentiate between issues that can be resolved within the context of the case, and those that are bigger issues that needed to addressed at a another time (preferably by someone else!).
Differentiate between importance and urgency for the issues identified. Some issues may appear to be urgent, but upon closer examination are relatively unimportant, while others may be far more important (relative to solving our problem) than urgent. You want to deal with important issues in order of urgency to keep focussed on your objective. Important issues are those that have a significant effect on:
profitability,
strategic direction of the company,
source of competitive advantage,
morale of the company's employees, and/or
customer satisfaction.
……………………………………………………………………….
Why or how did these issues arise? You are trying to determine cause and effect for the problems identified. You cannot solve a problem that you cannot determine the cause of! It may be helpful to think of the organization in question as consisting of the following components:
resources, such as materials, equipment, or supplies, and
people who transform these resources using
processes, which creates something of greater value.
Now, where are the problems being caused within this framework, and why?
Who is affected most by this issues? You are trying to identify who are the relevant stakeholders to the situation, and who will be affected by the decisions to be made.
What are the constraints and opportunities implicit to this situation? It is very rare that resources are not a constraint, and allocations must be made on the assumption that not enough will be available to please everyone.
What do the numbers tell you? You need to take a look at the numbers given in the case study and make a judgement as to their relevance to the problem identified. Not all numbers will be immediately useful or relevant, but you need to be careful not to overlook anything. When deciding to analyze numbers, keep in mind why you are doing it, and what you intend to do with the result. Use common sense and comparisons to industry standards when making judgements as to the meaning of your answers to avoid jumping to conclusions.

Mind Map, use important strike out non important.
Generating Alternatives This section deals with different ways in which the problem can be resolved. Typically, there are many (the joke is at least three), and being creative at this stage helps. Things to remember at this stage are:Be realistic! While you might be able to find a dozen alternatives, keep in mind that they should be realistic and fit within the constraints of the situation.
The alternatives should be mutually exclusive, that is, they cannot happen at the same time.
Not making a decision pending further investigation i
Key decision criteria should be:Brief, preferably in point form, such as
improve (or at least maintain) profitability,
increase sales, market share, or return on investment,
maintain customer satisfaction, corporate image,
be consistent with the corporate mission or strategy,
within our present (or future) resources and capabilities,
within acceptable risk parameters,
ease or speed of implementation,
employee morale, safety, or turnover,
retain flexibility, and/or
minimize environmental impact.

“It’s a misleading advertisement. One can advertise about its own good quality but not at the cost of others” said Bharat Raval, president ISMA.
Puro Wellness thus may have said that their pink salt is good for health but it cannot assert through advertisement that white salt in the market is bad and unhealthy.
Puro plans to launch its SoLite range of products, which will start with three everyday used ingredients, salt, sugar and rice.
PURO WELLNESS's primary competitors are ORGANIC INDIA, Kuli Kuli & Farm2kitchen.
