3. • He was born into the wealthy and famous tata family of Mumbai.
• He was born to Soonoo and Naval hormusji tata. Ratan was the great
grandson of Tata group founder Jamshedji Tata.
• Ratan’s childhood was troubled, his parents separating in the mid
1940s when e was about 7 and his younger brother Jimmy was 5.
• After his Parents separated he was brought up by his grandmother
and did his schooling in Mumbai from Campion School.
• He received a bachelors degree in architecture from America’s cornell
University in 1962.
• Turned down job in IBM to join his own business.
• In 1962 he joined tata group.

• 1962 : Worked at Tata steel with other blue collar employees.
• 1971 : He was appointed as the director of NELCO.
