2. Aim, Purpose and Methodology
• The main purpose of this task was to find out what my target
audience needs and wants. If my Magazine is created around
my audience, to suit their specific needs, it is much more
likely to sell better, and more people will want to read it.
• By conducting a questionnaire and a focus group, I was able to
get a balance between quantitative and qualitative data. I was
also able to get new ideas for the magazine that I may not
have previously thought of. This again will make it more suited
to my target audiences needs.
3. Audience Profiling
The majority of people I asked, were students who were under
18 and listened to dance music. Many of the students I asked
had part-time jobs, meaning that they are much more likely to
have money to spend on a new music magazine. However, as
most of them are students and only working part-time, I will not
be able to price the magazine to high as they will be reluctant to
buy it.

4. Audience Profiling
• I needed to find out where the majority of my target audience
are placed and what they are interested so that I know where
to sell my magazine and what kinds of advertisements I
should include in my magazine to keep my readers engaged.
The content must suit my target audiences wants and needs.

5. Media Purchasing Habits
• By asking my target audience how often they buy magazines, I
can get a better understanding of their reading habits and
how often they would want to buy my magazine. The place of
purchase or how it is purchased is also important as it will
give me information on where I should sell and advertise my
magazine.

6. Personal Preferences
• To get a better idea on what to price the magazine, I asked my target
audience. As most students are not earning much money, they chose the
lower bracket for the price. On my questionnaire I had three example front
covers, the first one (A) seemed to be the favorite as most people thought
the colours went well together and the picture suited the theme. Many
people also liked the third magazine cover (B) as it was bright and
colourful making it stand out. Half of the people I asked would prefer the
magazine to be released fortnightly.

7. Personal Preferences
• Most people would like to receive music vouchers with the magazine, by
giving these away I am more likely to draw in my target audience and sell
more copies of the magazine, as it is what my target audience want. The
questionnaire showed that the most popular feature that my target
audience would like to see in the magazine is ‘A day in the life of’. Many
people dream of being famous so to read about what it would be like to
be in a celebrity's shoes would really appeal to my audience.

• The majority of the people I questioned said that they would like to spend
a day with a celebrity and get to meet them. The most popular artist that
my audience want to see featured in my magazine is David Guetta as he is
so successful and has worked with so many famous people. The colour
scheme was split quite evenly with only a difference of one person
between blue, pink and purple and red, green and blue with only one
person between them, but overall most people preferred the
red, green, blue colour scheme.

9. Conclusion
• The majority of people who will want to buy my magazine are
students, many of them work part-time. This prevents me from pricing it
too high, most people do not think it should be priced above £1-£2.99 and
released fortnightly. the majority of people who listen to dance music
enjoy arts and crafts and only occasionally buy magazines. This means that
I must work hard to make my magazine stand out so that people will want
to buy it. The best place to sell my magazine would be in the supermarket
as that is where most of my target audience tend to buy their magazines.
Judging on what my target audience want, I should try to use similar
features that cover A used, as my audience find that most appealing.
Music vouchers are what my target audience would most like to receive
with the magazine, this way they are able to go out and buy the music that
may be featured in the magazine. My questionnaire also shows that I
should feature ‘a day in the life of’ in the magazine, and the competition I
should include is ‘spend a day with’. David Guetta is the most popular
artist which my audience would like to see in my magazine.
Red, Green, Blue is the most popular colour scheme for my magazine, this
is probably because it represents a club like scene and can appeal to
everyone.
