1. Questionnaire Results
I used a primary resource using surveys. The aim of my survey was to find out what the
audience look for in a magazine, popular trends in music genres, ages of music readers, what
the audience like to see in a magazine, what draws in the reader. This will help me when I am
designing my magazine and I want to know what to feature and what attracts the audience
when selling my magazine.
The age range I surveyed was in the 17-20 year old category, as this is an age I think would
be most appropriate to target at students/ young adults.

From these results I found that the most popular genre of music Is Rock, therefore my music
magazine is going to be mainly based on Rock music as this will reach my audience. Indie
my seconds a popular genre of music therefore my magazine would also be based with a part
of indie music

I found from these results that more Male read music magazines than females. Therefore my
magazine should be targeted at males more over females. However there is still a good
amount of Females so I should partly target at them too.

From my survey When asking my audience “what attracts you to the front cover for a
magazine?” I can conclude that the two important features of my magazine is the images I
use and the artist on the front cover as these both got 35% of the vote in the survey This is
most important as when selling my magazine I must make it so it appeals to my reader
Therefore when creating my magazine I must concentrate on using the images and artist on
the front cover the most interesting and relatable to the reader or audience. The next two
popular answers were text and colour on the front cover, I think this is also key as the reader
when picking up the magazine will look at what the articles feature in the magazine and this
will decided whether or not the reader would want to buy the magazine. I think colour is a
main feature also as certain colours such as red stand out more and will attract the readers
attention over other magazines. Also the artist on the front cover will be a rock or indie artist.

From this graph we can tell how you target to the different sexes So it is clear here that if we
are mainly targeting at Males the most important thing to focus on is the Images used on the
front cover and secondly the artist on the front cover, then the text used the cover which will
draw the reader in and convince then to buy it. For a female audience the main point which
catches the female audience is the artist on the front cover and then the other images,
however this is very similar to the males and when creating my own magazine I will strongly
concentrate on both the artist and other images as I want to appeal to both male and female
audience.

This graph show the most that people would pay for a magazine. The results show that the
most people would pay is £2.00 to £2.50 I think this is a fair price for the magazine and it
shows a trend in this price, so therefore when making my own magazine I would price it at

5. somewhere around £2.00 to £2.50. I think this reflects my audience as they are in the age
range of 17-20 and this means they are the age of students and students do not earn much
money so therefore are not going to buy magazines at high prices and this is why it is
important to see what prices the audience are willing to pay o buy the magazine and reach the
audience and sell my magazine

This was to see how often the audience would want the magazine to be released. I found that
the most popular answer was every fortnight. This is a question which makes sure that the
magazine will be bough as there is no point in realising the magazine weekly when it won`t
be bought by many people so making it every fortnight means it will be always bought and at
a fair price. However you could if the chart had shown buying it every month charged for the
magazine more and less often. However I think with this audience in mind it would work
better every fortnight and at somewhere between £2.00- £2.50.

I asked my audience what were the main things they would like to be included in the
magazine, so that I could get a better view on what to include in my magazine which will
make the audience want to buy the magazine more. I found that posters were the most
popular answer at 25% and interviews with artists at second on 21% followed by reviews of
CDS and gigs. Therefore this is what I could include in my magazine and include this on my
front cover to attract the readers.

From these result I can see that Males mostly are interested in posters, so this would be a key
feature in my magazine, my second popular result was freebees and tour dates so these would
also be a key features. However when trying to market towards females I would include

is male I will look more at the what the males would like in the magazine over female.

From these results I found that the most popular answer for what type of freebee they would
like was demo CDS from popular artists and money off CDS and downloads for free songs
from artists. Therefore this means this would be key to feature in my magazine these things
posters and gig tickets were also answers so these would be included less often in the
magazine.
Conclusion
Overall from my survey I have found that when I am creating my magazine I am going to
make it primarily a Rock magazine with partly indie music as well. My magazine will be
mostly targeted at Males as this was the most popular genre of music although, I would like
some of it to be targeted at Females as well as this was also a popular female answer along
with Indie I will charge between £2.00- £2.50 for my magazine as I think this is an affordable
price for the age range I am targeting at 17- 20 year old which is key student age therefore it
will have to be cheap and affordable as students earn less money.
When designing the front of my magazine I will concentrate on the artist on the front cover
and the images as these are the most popular answers and this is what my audience looks for
when buying a magazine.
I will release my magazine every fortnight as this is the most popular amount of time. The
main features of my magazine will be posters and interviews. Freebees would include demo
CDS and money off CDS and downloads for free songs.
