 The plan, design, or arrangement of objects
and spaces in a room.
 A good layout is both aesthetically pleasing
and functional.
 The manner in which the furniture,appliances
and counters are placed should be pleasing
to the eye as well as facilitate the work done
in the kitchen. It should make cooking tasks
easier and quicker, not get in the way of
them.
 Distance of the sink from the stove.
 Distance of the stove to the storage for
ingredients to the sink.
 Distance of the storage for ingredients to the
sink.
 Ample space for food preparation.
 Size and shape of the room.
 Enough room to move around freely and
comfortably.
 1. FOOD STORAGE -
 the refrigerator and pantry are found in
this kitchen workstation. Ideally
shelves,cabinets and cupboards should also
be located in this area of the kitchen, racks
for wine and spices can be installed in the
food storage station to make the kitchen
more organized. Keeping all food storage
units in one area makes getting ingredients
easier.
 2. PREPARATION/COOKING STATION –
Most of the work done in a kitchen is
performed in this workstation, more
space is required for the
preparation/cooking station of the
kitchen. Aside from the stove, cooking
appliances such as oven,toaster oven,
and microwave oven are found in this
area.
 3. CLEAN-UP STATION –
the sink,waste disposal and dishwasher
are located in this workstation. The
cabinets placed in this area are
designed to keep the trash bin out of
sight.Roll out tray baskets can also be
installed for convenience in storing
cleaning tools and materials.
 1. SINGLE LINE LAYOUT – In the
single line/wall layout, all kitchen
counters and appliances are
placed in a single line against one
wall. The sink and stove are in the
middle of this layout, reducing the
need to walk to and from the two
ends of the kitchen while working.
 2. GALLEY LAYOUT
-Also known as corridor layout, the galley
layout utilizes two rows of working space that
are parallel to each other, making it easy to
move from one workstation to the next. For
instance, preparation can be done on one row
and cooking on the other row.
 3. L-SHAPED LAYOUT
-An L-Shaped kitchen layout is
bounded by two walls or counters.
This kitchen layout keeps the kitchen
free of outside traffic.
 4. U-SHAPED AND G-SHAPED LAYOUTS
-Uses three walls or counters to create a U,
maximizing kitchen space and providing an
abundance of counter space on whick to
work. The G-Shaped or peninsula layout
adds a short, low wall to the U-Shaped
layout. This creates more workspace and
further prevents outside traffic to the
kitchen area.
 ISLAND LAYOUT
-An island is unattached counter
placed in the middle of the kitchen. It
adds additional workspace for food
preparation. It can also serve as a
surface for serving meals. It often has
a sink and storage space, or even a
stove.
 The layout contributes to the efficiency of work done in a kitchen.

Types of kitchen layout grade 7

  • 2.  The plan, design, or arrangement of objects and spaces in a room.  A good layout is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.  The manner in which the furniture,appliances and counters are placed should be pleasing to the eye as well as facilitate the work done in the kitchen. It should make cooking tasks easier and quicker, not get in the way of them.
  • 3.  Distance of the sink from the stove.  Distance of the stove to the storage for ingredients to the sink.  Distance of the storage for ingredients to the sink.  Ample space for food preparation.  Size and shape of the room.  Enough room to move around freely and comfortably.
  • 4.  1. FOOD STORAGE -  the refrigerator and pantry are found in this kitchen workstation. Ideally shelves,cabinets and cupboards should also be located in this area of the kitchen, racks for wine and spices can be installed in the food storage station to make the kitchen more organized. Keeping all food storage units in one area makes getting ingredients easier.
  • 5.  2. PREPARATION/COOKING STATION – Most of the work done in a kitchen is performed in this workstation, more space is required for the preparation/cooking station of the kitchen. Aside from the stove, cooking appliances such as oven,toaster oven, and microwave oven are found in this area.
  • 6.  3. CLEAN-UP STATION – the sink,waste disposal and dishwasher are located in this workstation. The cabinets placed in this area are designed to keep the trash bin out of sight.Roll out tray baskets can also be installed for convenience in storing cleaning tools and materials.
  • 7.  1. SINGLE LINE LAYOUT – In the single line/wall layout, all kitchen counters and appliances are placed in a single line against one wall. The sink and stove are in the middle of this layout, reducing the need to walk to and from the two ends of the kitchen while working.
  • 8.  2. GALLEY LAYOUT -Also known as corridor layout, the galley layout utilizes two rows of working space that are parallel to each other, making it easy to move from one workstation to the next. For instance, preparation can be done on one row and cooking on the other row.
  • 9.  3. L-SHAPED LAYOUT -An L-Shaped kitchen layout is bounded by two walls or counters. This kitchen layout keeps the kitchen free of outside traffic.
  • 10.  4. U-SHAPED AND G-SHAPED LAYOUTS -Uses three walls or counters to create a U, maximizing kitchen space and providing an abundance of counter space on whick to work. The G-Shaped or peninsula layout adds a short, low wall to the U-Shaped layout. This creates more workspace and further prevents outside traffic to the kitchen area.
  • 11.  ISLAND LAYOUT -An island is unattached counter placed in the middle of the kitchen. It adds additional workspace for food preparation. It can also serve as a surface for serving meals. It often has a sink and storage space, or even a stove.
